[Bug 1407790] Re: GRUB >= 2.00 has been unpacked but not yet configured.

2015-01-05 Thread Phillip Susi
That should not have made any difference since the script is not
actually referencing GRUB_PREFIX since it was removed. The script is
checking to see if /etc/grub.d/00_header still references it, which it
shouldn't as it has been removed. Does your 00_header still reference
it? If so something must have gone wrong in the upgrade somewhere.
Purge grub-common and reinstall and it should reinstall that file which
should no longer reference that variable.

[Bug 1407841] [NEW] docker.io package fails install if docker group is pre-existing

2015-01-05 Thread Charles Butler
Public bug reported:

When installing the docker.io package, it fails during installation with
a message akin to the following:

stderr: addgroup: The group `docker' already exists and is not a system group.
Exiting.
dpkg: error processing package docker.io (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 docker.io
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

This was originally discovered during charm development where a user can switch
from the canonical docker package to the docker maintained package
'lxc-docker'. With the upstream package, they are not maintaining a
docker-group in the charm, and allows for installation regardless of the
presence of the group. While the docker.io package will halt installation in a
panic if it exists - regardless if its a system group or not. Just the presence
alone appears to be the key factor in the failure.

I don't think this behavior is correct - as a user may have created a
docker group themselves, and expect to install the docker.io package
from the repository after removing the latest - due to a bug or any
number of reasons.

I'm linking the commit to the charm and the user stack trace for
additional validation/investigation if required:

[Bug 1384515] Re: Laptop screen dims on logout

2015-01-05 Thread Jack Fromm
Per a suggestion on the xubuntu-devel IRC channel, I tested the intel
xorg-edgers ppa driver -- to no avail.

Next suggestion was to try a later kernel. First, I did a fresh install
of the current vivid daily image and confirmed that problem was still
present. Then I installed the latest 3.17 kernel and that did seem to
resolve the problem. So for the heck of it, I then installed the latest
3.19 RC and it's working okay with that one too.

** Changed in: linux-armadaxp (Ubuntu Precise)

** Changed in: linux-lts-raring (Ubuntu Precise)

** Description changed:

- paravirt_enabled has the following effects: - Disables the F00F bug
- workaround warning. There is no F00F bug workaround any more because
- Linux's standard IDT handling already works around the F00F bug, but
- the warning still exists. This is only cosmetic, and, in any event,
- there is no such thing as KVM on a CPU with the F00F bug. - Disables
- 32-bit APM BIOS detection. On a KVM paravirt system, there should be
- no APM BIOS anyway. - Disables tboot. I think that the tboot code
- should check the CPUID hypervisor bit directly if it matters. -
- paravirt_enabled disables espfix32. espfix32 should *not* be disabled
- under KVM paravirt. The last point is the purpose of this patch. It
- fixes a leak of the high 16 bits of the kernel stack address on 32-bit
- KVM paravirt guests. While I'm at it, this removes pv_info setup from
- kvmclock. That code seems to serve no purpose.
+ The paravirt_ops_setup function in arch/x86/kernel/kvm.c in the Linux
+ kernel through 3.18 uses an improper paravirt_enabled setting for KVM
+ guest kernels, which makes it easier for guest OS users to bypass the

Close or delete this bug -
I have 64-bit versions of Ubuntu AND Win-8.
But an OLD BIOS that does not support uEFI.
While updating Grub thru Ubuntu, it somehow decided I would need uEFI, and
installed it.
Then allhell broke loose. I kept getting errors with every apt-get update,
including BOOT-REPAIR, until I finally manged to remove
the OS-Prober and the UEFI.
Now, my main problem is that my Grub-update does not see my Win-8 boot anymore!
(But I'm in no hurry to boot Win8 ) ;-)
But that's another issue! (I think)
Consider this as something other than a bug. Unless you advise otherwise.

Okay, I do like that addresses can be edited, and don't really have an
issue with it. However, it showing up when clicking the label isn't very
intuitive. I suggest we simply add "Enter a custom address..." as one of
the menu item options. Preferably with a separator (I'll attach a sketch
to be even clearer). That way the option doesn't interfere with flow,
but is still easily available.

It does on sane platforms, thus the original version always had the
field editable.

Just to make sure that we're looking at the same thing here, there are
other editable lists in the UI. The easiest one is the advanced
attribute editor. Compose an HTML message, then go to Format - Page
Colours and Background, then click Advanced Edit. On the bottom left is
an editable list of commonly used attributes (background, bgcolor, text,
link, vlink, alink, id, class, title, lang, dir).

[Bug 357864]

2015-01-05 Thread Josiah-l
Created attachment 8544150
Example sketch.

Here's the example. In addition, if the user deselects the field without
inputting any text, we should revert the field back to being selectable
(with the options).

It would also be preferable to allow clicking the drop down icon to
always bring up the list, regardless of the field's current state.

My default setting in "System Settings" > "Software & Updates" > "Ubuntu

Problem description: Having updated to LibreOffice 4.0.1 on Fedora, I
noticed that when I try to spell check a document with the English
(Australia) dictionary, the spell check appears to function but doesn't
do anything. If I were to check a document, it would always say that
there are no errors, but when I manually check the document, there are
clear spelling errors.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open new Writer document and change language to English (Australia)
2. Type something with an obvious spelling error in it
3. Run spellcheck

Current behavior: The spellcheck will return no errors. If necessary it
will show "continue from top" message, but no errors will be found.
(Auto spellcheck also finds no errors.)

Expected behavior: The spellcheck should find the errors in the text and
make correction suggestions.

Version: 4.1.6.2
Build ID: 40ff705089...

You can reproduce the problem by creating a new document and typing some
garbage. The spell checker can find no problem and it always reports
"Spell check complete."

The spell checker behaves exactly the same when you change the document
language to "None" as when you change it to "English (Australian)".

> I get "color" marked as wrong here. Could you confirm, that it is wrong in

Australian English is the same as British English (ignoring idioms).
"Color" is the U.S. spelling. In Australia and the U.K. the spelling is
"colour".

So one workaround is to switch the default language to English (U.K.) in
settings. But changing the default may not help for documents already
saved with language "English (Australian)".

[Bug 1389954] Re: Make .lxc domain name resolution easier to discover and enable

2015-01-05 Thread Forest
Thanks for taking an interest in the issue.

Since I filed this specifically against lxc in Ubuntu, wouldn't it make
sense to start by documenting the necessary config changes (including
NetworkManager's dnsmasq config, since it is part of Ubuntu by default)
in /usr/share/doc/lxc/README?

[Bug 1407522] Re: bcmwl package was sugested by KDE driver manager but broke the system

2015-01-05 Thread Rostislav Kandilarov
"New" BIOS installed (HP claim that bootable usb could do the trick
and lost me some time...):

root@Beatles:~# dmidecode -s bios-version && dmidecode -s bios-release-date
68YGU Ver. F.0E
08/27/2008

Then installed bcmwl driver
sudo apt-get --reinstall install bcmwl-kernel-source

Then blacklisted all b4*, wl and related drivers:
root@Beatles:~# cat /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-temp.conf
blacklist b43
blacklist b44
blacklist ssb
blacklist wl
blacklist ssb_hcd
blacklist b43legacy
blacklist brcmsmac
blacklist bcma

Reboot and when modprobing wl I got the same

 kernel: [ 214.826743] wl driver 6.30.223.248 (r487574) failed with code 21
 kernel: [ 214.826776] [ cut here ]
 kernel: [ 214.826814] kernel BUG at include/net/cfg80211.h:3343!
.
Adding attached the "new" kernel bug.

Rebooting (which is tricky due to the kernel state) and tested b43 and
b44 - working, hopefully writing this post from the laptop.

P.S. I found it annoying that wl requires modprobe ignore install b44 when b44
is my ethernet driver

[Bug 1300235] Re: init crashed with SIGSEGV

2015-01-05 Thread Brian Murray
I was able to recreate this using the steps provided on Ubuntu 15.04,
however setting Chromium as my default browser in System Settings ->
Defaults was insufficient. I had to launch chromium-browser, and then
choose to set it as the default browser in its preferences. Also
chromium-browser was closed when I clicked on the link in the synaptic.
Is that also the case in your testing Christopher?

[Bug 1389954] Re: Make .lxc domain name resolution easier to discover and enable

2015-01-05 Thread Serge Hallyn
This has been discussed before. I definately want to make things work
as cleanly as possible out of the box. There are a few problems with
doing htis though, 1) networkmanager isn't the only place we'd need to
do this (most "serious" lxc hosts probably don't run networkmanager), 2)
if we do this automatically then changes made to /etc/default/lxc-net
may start to require more baroque changes elsewhere. We almost want a
simple tool to administer all the network bits at this point.

Another possiblity is to leave fixing this to lxd.

Re: [Bug 1404396] [NEW] [regression] vgabios -> seabios breaks (my) 16-bit applications

2015-01-05 Thread Serge Hallyn
If this could be fixed in seabios that would be ideal. Discussion of a
second-best solution should probably wait unti lwe're certain that is
not possible.

Since with respect to this issue we should be in sync with Debian, I'm curious
whether Debian also has this issue.

Unfortunately we can't just SRU 1.2.8 into Trusty. Hopefully the
actual fix will come down to a few patches we can cherrypick.

[Bug 1407818] [NEW] pm-utils reset the vm.dirty_ratio and vm.dirty_background_bytes variables

2015-01-05 Thread Jean-Philippe Guérard
Public bug reported:

On a desktop system, on AC power, pm-utils reset the vm.dirty_ratio and
vm.dirty_background_ratio at boot time.

When setting these variables using sysctl.conf, they are silently reset
by the /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/laptop-mode script shipped with pm-
utils.

The only way to give specific values to these variables using sysctl is
to remove this script.

I have tried to reproduce the problem with the latest daily build of
Ubuntu 15.04. The system does not load the driver properly and the
system does not resume when the lid is opened, so it does not get far
enough to see whether the problem still exists at that level.

[Bug 1404564] Re: Bluetooth not search headset

2015-01-05 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Did this issue occur in a previous version of Ubuntu, or is this a new
issue?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.19 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1389028] Re: u1 account crashes and gets removed when installing app

2015-01-05 Thread Rodney Dawes
I'm setting this back to Fix Released. As stated by the original
reporter in comment #15, this was due to a corrupted account on the
server, which had two different tokens somehow registered for the
device. This would cause the account to be created successfully when
logging in via Online Accounts, but when the account would be used by
the scope, it would see from the server that the credentials were
invalid (because the server was expecting a different token), and the
scope would delete the local account and require the user to log in
again (because it appeared to have invalid credentials on the device).
By deleting both tokens on the server, via the web site, and then
logging in again, the issue was resolved for Mathijs.

[Bug 1322925] Re: Copy, paste stops working randomly in Ubuntu 14.04 nautilus

2015-01-05 Thread circum
I confirm that the bug affects nemo, too -- so presumably the root cause
is not in nautilus. I am hit by the bug right after upgrading to 14.04
from 13.10.

I can reproduce the error with the following scenario:

start nemo
press shift-ctrl-n to create a folder. A new folder with 'Untitled Folder'
created, the name is selected.
press shift-ctrl again. The order is important -- shift before, ctrl after. The
selection goes away, and now the folder 'Untitled Folder' itself is selected.
after that, you cannot cut or copy -- neither with kbd shortcut, neither with
menu items. As nemo visually gives feedback upon cutting a file, I can see that
the cut action is not performed.

I hope this helps.

nemo 2.0.8

[Bug 1404700] Re: Can not remove old kernels & upgrade system

2015-01-05 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.

[Bug 1405842] Re: Microcode SW error detected.

2015-01-05 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
kernel version where you were not having this particular problem? This
will help determine if the problem you are seeing is the result of a
regression, and when this regression was introduced. If this is a
regression, we can perform a kernel bisect to identify the commit that
introduced the problem.

[Bug 1404476] Re: error during upgrade from 12.04 to 14.04

2015-01-05 Thread Brian Murray
This is due to the blender PPA you have enabled which uses a version of
python greater than the one in Trusty. You'll need to disable and remove
packages from that ppa using the tool ppa-purge. Thanks and good luck!

Thanks for your contribution! However, there is a small issue in
debian/changelog: Merge-o-Matic adds a blank line at the end of that

It's a bug in MoM and you have to delete that line if exists. I done
that already and I'm uploading your merge.
