[Bug 1308136] Re: telephony-service-indicator is waking up every 4 seconds adding inotifies on paths that don't exist
telephony-service-indicator is still waking up on every 4 seconds, but this time it is caused by NetworkManager emiting signals as far as I can see. [Bug 1407537] Re: Nexus 7 no abd access
Did this issue occur in a previous version of Ubuntu, or is this a new issue? Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.19 kernel[0]. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as Confirmed. Thanks in advance. [Bug 525161] Re: sometimes it's never print out any page and hangs on
If the pure file conversion from PS to PDF (not printing) takes 2 hours (in evince Print to file, format PDF, or ps2pdf on the command line) then there is a problem with the file converter in use concerning the conversion process or the PS file is extremely awkward (in this latter case direct printing on a native PostScript printer can also take long time or even fail). What needs to be tested is what step actually takes too long time. So please do a printing/converting operation which takes too long and while it is running, run the top command in a terminal window. [Bug 1240198] Re: [SRU]Wrong keyboard layout active after booting into desktop
I've been hitting this problem for several weeks and tearing my hair over it. (Basically, I'm setting up a semi-automated install environment for rolling out about 250 Ubuntu 14.04 workstations - so fiddling about with GUI settings on each machine wasn't an option.) The variant of the problem which I experienced was that although /etc/default/keyboard specifies gb layout, all the desktops except Unity defaulted to US layout, and ibus engine reported xkb:us::eng. In my case, the following steps appear to have fixed the problem: 1) I edited /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/org.freedesktop.ibus.gschema.xml, and set the value for use-system-keyboard-layout to true. I then ran glib- compile-schemas /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas. After this, all the desktops defaulted to GB layout - but ibus engine still reported xkb:us::eng. 2) I had noticed in passing that when I ran ibus list-engine, there wasn't a setting for xkb:gb::eng - only xkb:gb:extd:eng, which didn't quite match the definition in /etc/default/keyboard (there was also one for the dvorak keyboard.) So I tried editing /usr/share/ibus/component/simple.xml, duplicating the engine definition for xkb:gb:extd:eng as xkb:gb::eng, and then running ibus restart. After this, ibus engine reported that it was using xkb:gb::eng. I've spent so long on this and run down so many false trails that I don't fully believe it yet - I'll reinstall the test box from scratch and apply the above again a few more times, then I'll report back. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1240198 Title: [SRU]Wrong keyboard layout active after booting into desktop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ibus/+bug/1240198/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1407763] [NEW] System crash Xubuntu 14.10 on i5-3337U CPU
Public bug reported: System is not running stable, it crashes (freezes) sooner or later. Sometimes with virtual console on screen, saying “not syncing: fatal exception in interrupt drm_kms_helper:: panic occurred, switching back to text console” - sometimes without console appearing. No more input possible (no sysrq), just hard reset. Apparently this is caused by i915 driver. It always happens with applications with a bit higher graphics performance requirements, e.g. watching DVB-T-TV in a little me-tv- or vlc-window and browsing the Internet at the same time. Initially core temperature and fan speed rise, and then follows the exitus follows. Same experience on Xubuntu 14.04 and Kubuntu 14.04. The reason why i file this against Utopic is that i have altered my Trusty-Systems with Intel Drivers from 01.org (see below). The following attempts did not improve the thing: Trying “Intel Graphics Installer” from 01.org 1.0.7 within the Trusty Systems. Trying (alone and with Intel Drivers) Mainline Kernel 3.18.1. But of course initally with regular Utopic 3.16. It may be of interest that on the very same machine the OS “Siduction” (Debian Unstable Rolling Release) runs without any problems or concerns (currently Kernel 3.18 and xorg-packages from Debian Sid branch). [Bug 1366829] Re: 7.4.4-1ubuntu2.1 makes rsyslogd to take all the CPU in OpenVZ
I've uploaded fixes to the SRU queue for Trusty and Utopic, thanks! ** Changed in: rsyslog (Ubuntu Trusty) Status: Triaged = In Progress ** Changed in: rsyslog (Ubuntu Trusty) Assignee: (unassigned) = Brian Murray (brian-murray) ** Changed in: rsyslog (Ubuntu Utopic) Status: Triaged = In Progress ** Changed in: rsyslog (Ubuntu Utopic) Assignee: (unassigned) = Brian Murray (brian-murray) ** Description changed: + Test Case + - + * Install rsyslog 7.4.4-1ubuntu2.1 on an Ubuntu system that runs inside an OpenVZ container (If necessary, use ProxMox to quickly establish an OpenVZ container environment) + * Verify that '$KLogPermitNonKernelFacility on' is set in /etc/rsyslog.conf + * Restart rsyslog to make sure any changes to the binaries/config are picked up + * Run 'top' and observe that the rsyslogd process is running at 100% CPU. When working properly, the rsyslogd process should generally be idle. + + - + After updating rsyslog from 7.4.4-1ubuntu2 to 7.4.4-1ubuntu2.1 the rsyslogd process started to take all the CPU on my machine. The modification made by this release is described in #127, it is the activation of KLogPermitNonKernelFacility option. I don't know exactly the effect of this option but it seems to have a permanent effect : even after downgrading the package or manually removing the option from /etc/rsyslog.conf the issue remains. My syslog is full of : Sep 8 10:28:40 sentry rsyslogd: imklog: error reading kernel log - shutting down: Bad file descriptor Sep 8 10:28:40 sentry rsyslogd: message repeated 498 times: [imklog: error reading kernel log - shutting down: Bad file descriptor] Sep 8 10:28:46 sentry rsyslogd-2177: rsyslogd[internal_messages]: 519517 messages lost due to rate-limiting I guess this is what causes the CPU load. Rostislav Kandilarov, as per http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=1847107swLangOid=8swEnvOid=2104 an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (F.0E). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New.
