[Bug 967416] Re: inkscape crashed with SIGSEGV in file_save()
I thought I might take a crack at this since it looked interesting. I apologize for the length, I've added debugging details so hopefully it's clear. I'm new to the codebase and GTK, so I've added a lot so it can be double-checked. I don't think this is a threading problem. Rather, it looks like a reentrant issue with with running a script. I've attached two full stacktraces that give some more details prior to the actual crash, I reference them below: The first, stacktrace_remove_desktop.txt, shows the backtrace at the point where the last desktop is destroyed, SP_ACTIVE_DESKTOP is effectively set to NULL. For brevity I'm posting a snippet: #0 Inkscape::Application::remove_desktop #1 sp_desktop_widget_dispose ~snip~ #14 sp_ui_close_all ~snip~ #34 g_main_loop_run ~snip~ #35 Inkscape::Extension::Implementation::Script::execute #36Inkscape::Extension::Implementation::Script::save #37 Inkscape::Extension::Output::save #38 Inkscape::Extension::save #39 file_save at file.cpp:666 #40 sp_file_save_dialog ~snip~ #60 g_main_loop_run #61 IA__gtk_main #62 sp_main_gui #63 __libc_start_main At this point it starts becoming clear that the Extension::Script::execute has launched another main loop while it waits on the child python script to complete execution, or at least Script::cancelProcessing is called. I believe the script has not completed, therefore the input handler is run in the "context" of this new main loop, the UI saves and deletes the desktops (including SP_ACTIVE_DESKTOP). At some point the inner g_main_loop_run then returns, and eventually unwinds back to file_save, this then continues and hits the failure at the added debug messages and segfaults when dereferencing in file_save. I've also added a stacktrace_after_initial_save_xcf.txt where I simply saved to a XCF file, waited a second then grabbed a backtrace to verify that a second g_main_loop was still executing. Again, I'm not familiar enough with GTK, but I suspect this second loop is handling the window events, so it actually appears that the UI thread has returned from the file save and is handling event in the "real" loop, but in fact the stack is still sitting deep within the file_save call. I think this explains the problems where it happens to only occur when initially saving with certain formats (those that run scripts). I believe it also explains what appeared to be a threading issue since it was not 100% reproducible, actually it's more of a process-race on whether the script can complete before exiting. I'm not really sure of the fix here, again I'm new to the codebase and I don't know the Extension/Scripts requirements. I'm not entirely sure why there's a need for a Glib::MainLoop in the script - as I would think that any script work would be done in the spawn_async_with_pipes. Or, maybe this intentionally/cleverly hides blocking on the UI thread for script results. ** Attachment added: "stacktrace.zip" https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/967416/+attachment/4295626/+files/stacktrace.zip -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/967416 Title: inkscape crashed with SIGSEGV in file_save() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/967416/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1409366] [NEW] missing /usr/lib/libGL.so, pkg-config gl.pc file causes programs to fail to build
Public bug reported: I test the software I write against GTK+ master, and for that I build cairo and pango master as part of the build process with jhbuild. After getting a new laptop with AMD graphics, mesa kept freezing so I switched to fglrx. The two libraries now fail to build. cairo fails to link because it can't find -lGL, because it is stored in /usr/lib/fglrx, which is not included in the library search path for whatever reason. So far, solutions to the problem I've found online say to manually create a symbolic link to /usr/lib/fglrx/libGL.so in /usr/lib. There must be some better way, especially since this leads to the next problem. In pango's case, it fails late in the build process because pkg-config can't find an OpenGL pkg-config file, which is required by the cairo one produced by the previous cairo build. I'm not sure what to do in this case. I have installed fglrx-updates-dev as well, to no avail. No idea if fglrx non-updates is affected either. Ubuntu GNOME 14.10 fglrx-updates 2:14.201-0ubuntu2 installed via Additional Drivers Lenovo G50-45 AMD A6-6310 APU with AMD Radeon R4 Graphics Thanks. ** Affects: fglrx-installer-updates (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1409366 Title: missing /usr/lib/libGL.so, pkg-config gl.pc file causes programs to fail to build To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer-updates/+bug/1409366/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1409353] [NEW] Copy paste stops working after shift key at rename in nemo
Public bug reported: Since upgrading my Ubuntu box to 14.04 from 13.10, I have encountered with this weird behavior. I can reproduce the error with the following scenario: start nemo press shift-ctrl-n to create a folder. A new folder with 'Untitled Folder' created, the name is selected as an editbox to rename it. press shift-ctrl again. The order is important -- shift before, ctrl after. The selection goes away, and now the folder 'Untitled Folder' itself is selected. after that, you cannot cut or copy -- neither with keyboard shortcut, neither with menu items. As nemo visually gives feedback upon cutting a file, I can see that the cut action is not performed. Alternatively, you can simply try to enter an uppercase letter in the rename edit box -- i.e., press shift-A. The character is not inserted, the rename action is finished, and copy-paste does not work. nemo version: 2.4.4-2~webupd8~trusty0 Is it possible that this error has some connection with the following bugs...? https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1322925 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nemo/+bug/1330122 ** Affects: nemo (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: key keyboard shift state -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1409353 Title: Copy paste stops working after shift key at rename in nemo To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nemo/+bug/1409353/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1409347] [NEW] "Enable horizontal scrolling" doesn't work with "Reverse scroll direction"
Public bug reported: Summary: The direction of horizontal scrolling isn't affected by "Reverse scrolling direction" How to reproduce: 1) Open touchpad settings - Menu | Settings | Mouse and Touchpad 2) Enable horizontal scrolling - Touchpad | Enable horizontal scrolling 3) Invert scrolling direction* - Buttons and feedback | Reverse scroll direction Expected behaviour: The horizontal scrolling direction should be inverted - i.e. swiping two fingers from left to right should cause the window content to move from left to right - i.e. "natural scrolling". Justification: There are two logical scrolling modes: 1) The touchpad moves the viewport (and window content remains static) - this is the classic Windows behaviour; dragging a vertical scrollbar downwards gives the impression that the window content moves upwards (i.e. the view moves downwards and the window content does not move). This shall be known as "viewport control". 2) The touchpad moves window content (and the viewport remains static) - this is the modern OSX behaviour; swiping down gives the impression that the window content also moves downwards (i.e. the window content moves down and the viewport does not move). This shall be known as "page control". When enabling both of the above settings ("Enable horizontal scrolling" and "Reverse scroll direction"), the behaviour is "page control" on the vertical axis, but "viewport control" on the horizontal axis - this is really uncomfortable/counter-intuitive. To summarize - the "Reverse scroll direction" has no effect on the horizontal axis.
