[Bug 1413845] [NEW] booth.init says to modify /etc/default/boothd, which does not exist

2015-01-22 Thread Kevin Dalley
Public bug reported:

Upon installation debian/booth.init says to

To run booth arbitration daemon, please set RUN_ARBITRATOR to 'yes' in
/etc/default/boothd

However, the name of the file is /etc/default/booth

The letter "d" should be removed.

The warning appears in 3 places in this file with the phrase:

log_warning_msg "To run $DESC, please set RUN_ARBITRATOR
to 'yes' in /etc/default/$NAME "

I haven't had the issue for a long time.

But comment #12 suggests we might still have a race or failure to set

[Bug 1413799] Re: Ubuntu live destroy my swap data

2015-01-22 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1413841] [NEW] package libaudiocdplugins4 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/lib/libaudiocdplugins.so.4', which is also in package kio-audiocd 4:4.14.1-0ubuntu1

2015-01-22 Thread oldspammer
Public bug reported:

Upgrading from 12.10 to 13.04 to 14.04 to 14.10 through a sequence
involving the recommended upgrade sequence using http://old-
releases.ubuntu.com/ repository, etc.

Some intermediate stage wanted to upgrade things involving audiocd--the
bug reported item.

My last unreported GUI bug was one where the font size of x-terminal was
super small. When I clicked on the "+" button, the terminal size and
font grew larger, where upon, after too many clicks on that button the
font and window were huge. I clicked on the "-" button on the terminal's
window top, but it did not shrink the window, just the font size. I
then tried to shrink the window using right click resize, but the mouse
adjustment to shrink the size did not have any effect except to
temporarily change the look of the mouse cursor. When mouse button for
dragging the resize was released, the window stayed the same size. The
same thing happened when I tried to use just the cursor direction keys
on the keyboard.

This terminal window was running my do-release-upgrade that had already
downloaded all of the required packages and was processing to set each
one up and remove the older packages--so I did not want to test if the
quit or close button worked on this malformed terminal window.

After too much dinking around like this, the terminal screen size
overlapped greater than all my workspaces combined with microscopic font
size and black background. The display probably had 8000 lines of
microscopic font scrolling each time the installation proceeded--this
was noticably slower than normal.

Only minimize and restore seemed to work and I did not want to click
close for fear that this would break all sorts of installed packages. I
ended up with a zombie process and somehow the window shut on its own
without me asking for this, but after about 9 hours of processing time--
hopefully enough to complete the upgrade to ubuntu 14.10? I checked
using the compizConfig tool if window resizing was disabled, but it was
not disabled at all. To check what version of x-terminal was running the
ps display while running as root showed it to be x-terminal-alternative
from /etc/alternatives folder or directory that is some script in text.

I had to run all of this because a prior install had that the package
resolver decided that there was no need to keep the aptitude character
based package manager and removed a huge amount of stuff that could not
be re-installed due to unresolved means to re-establish package
dependencies, etc. This was due to me saying yes to doing a package
clean-up or some such foolishness. Now when any software asks me if I
want to automatically remove 200 packages to clean up, I say NO every
time because the stupid software does not appreciate what foolishness it
is asking to do to itself--a sort of self inflicted wounding or suicide
--just to clean up a bit.

After all was done, I tested the x-terminal to see if it refused to
shrink its size using the mouse, but it behaved perfectly nicely.
Perhaps when an upgrade is in the process of happening, lots of stuff
gets into some sort of limbo state of malfunctioning?

On some of the install error messages it says that it is trying to erase
a file or directory and determines that the target does not exist. The
message comes out that it is presumably that my packages were broken
somehow--but no such broken packages were in the prior running of
synaptic or in aptitude.

It is too bad that some expert system of sanity checking of existing
packages does not exist that could possibly mark the given package for
re-installation to fix the discovered "broken-ness".

This also occurs in exactly the same way in Trusty without the daily

One thing I observed in testing this on Trusty while in a VM (where the
screen takes longer to refresh), the new terminal appears to open with
its assigned title, but then the title then quickly changes back to
user@host as if commanding it to change back.

[Bug 1388396] Re: Delete armory package from ubuntu

2015-01-22 Thread Joseph Bisch
Hi,

I am following up to this bug report, because it seems like the armory
package has not been removed from ubuntu as per my request. It has been
over 2 months (almost 3) since I originally filed the bug report. Did I
not do something I should have?

Just forget what I was saying about possibly pursuing an exception for
armory. I just want it removed.

Again, and in more detail, my rationalization is that armory is a
Bitcoin wallet. Due to the nature of the software, I don't feel
comfortable with armory in Ubuntu, because it will get out-of-date in
stable releases of Ubuntu. Since the interaction between the outdated
armory and current versions of other software (like Bitcoin Core) is
untested, there may be bugs that can result in the loss of users'
bitcoins. This is why it is imperative that armory be removed from
Ubuntu before Vivid is released.

Cheers,
Joseph

[Bug 1412943] Re: security.ubuntu.com (2001:67c:1562::XXX) not reachable via HE

2015-01-22 Thread Andrew Skalski
This affects all of the IPv6 addresses for us.archive.ubuntu.com as well
(the addresses are mostly the same as security.ubuntu.com, excluding the
two that actually work.)

It would be less of a concern if apt automatically fell back on the IPv4
stack, but right now the only way for my machines to receive updates is
to manually disable IPv6. This is cumbersome--and in the case of
security updates, potentially dangerous.

[Bug 1413824] [NEW] Unable to report decoding/playback issues to the user

2015-01-22 Thread Ricardo Salveti
Public bug reported:

Currently there is no way for the user to know if something went wrong
why trying to play an unsupported video (either audio plays fine, or
screen just stays back on the mediaplayer-app).

If possible, it'd be good to find a way to report back the errors from
gst into the mediaplayer-app, so the user can have a better user
experience when playing videos.

[Bug 1293754] Re: permission related error when moving files to internal NTFS formated drive

2015-01-22 Thread Mike_F
Sadly this seems to be an old bug, I just confirmed the drag-and-drop
'Copy, not Move' behavior on the older Thunar with Xubuntu 12.04 LTS.

BTW my NTFS partition is mounted in /etc/fstab using defaults. Example file is
world writable:
-rwxrwxrwx 2 root root 329 Jun 26 2014 linux-writeable.rtf

Same symptom on my current Linux Mint 17 with thunar version: 1.6.3-1ubuntu5 .

Just to be clear, d-n-d Move works as expected with source and
destination on an EXT4 partition.

Upstream seems to confirm that d-n-d Move on same partition is the desired
behavior:

[Bug 1413815] [NEW] Please drop node-smash and node-uglify as build deps

2015-01-22 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Public bug reported:

Dropping node-uglify and node-smash as Build-Deps and using slimit will
allow MIR' angular.js. This, however, will require the use of slimit
instead.

This is needed given that node-uglify and node-smash have various
dependencies that wont be MIR'd, where as slimit already has all of its
dependencies in main.

[Bug 1397433] Re: Statistics test fails on PowerPC

2015-01-22 Thread Michi Henning
I've run the statistics tests hundreds of times on porter-
powerpc.internal without any failures.

As it turns out, the two PPC "machines" are actually VMs, so I suspect
that the outliers were simply caused by the VM being slow.

I'm inclined to re-enable the stats tests (which are currently
disabled), to see whether this comes back. If it does, it is almost
certainly a VM load problem, not a real issue.

[Bug 1412730] Re: DELL U2415 monitor detection issues

2015-01-22 Thread Michiel Janssens
** Summary changed:

- DELL U2415M monitor detection issues
+ DELL U2415 monitor detection issues

** Description changed:

My Laptop HP Elitebook 8740w has two external screens connected.
1 DELL U2412M connected to vga connector
- 1 DELL U2415M connected to Displayport.
+ 1 DELL U2415 connected to Displayport.

I worked for about a year with a single external display, just U2412M on
the displayport without the issue I decribe.

  The first issue:
When booting up and with screens attatched and active, the 2415 boots in
1024x768 resolution, the 2412 boots at the same moment in 1920x1200 as it
should.
- At the point where the login screen appears the 2415 goes in power save mode,
most of the time.
+ At the point where the login screen appears the 2415 goes in power save mode,
most of the time.
The 2412 displays just fine at the moment.
After logging in, turning the 2415 off and on, sometimes helps the get the
screen active (out of power save).
When it gets active, the resoltion is 1024x768, not 1920x1200.
In unity-control-center in display settings the 2415 is displayed as "Unknown
Display" and the maximum resolution I can select is 1024x768.

  Second issue:
After a laptop suspend the 2415 doenst alway become active again, the 2412
always.
Turning off an on the 2415 multiple time mostly helps to get the screen
active.

  Current partial workaround:
xorg.conf with monitor section for 1920x1200 as in attatchment.
This doesn't solve booting in 1024x768, but solves the resolution after
logging in.
  unity-control-center still lists "Unknown Screen"

  Another strange behavior:
when executing xrandr command, most of the time the 2415 stays in 1024, but
after a number of executions the screen swithes to 1920x1200. At that moment
xrandr outputs all possible resolutions as it should.
When executing xrandr another time the 2415 switches back to 1024x768

Already tried kernel v3.18.3-vivid, no change.
Also tried Utopic live cd, no change.
Tried Windows 8.1, no issues with both screens. (however my main OS is Ubuntu
trusty, so..., just for testing)

[Bug 1413097] Re: internet error & partition drive

2015-01-22 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We understand the difficulties you
are facing, but it is better to raise problems you are having in the
support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are
uncertain if they are bugs. You can also find help posting your problem
in the support forum of your local Ubuntu's community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at http://askubuntu.com. For help on
reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1403942] Re: Not connected to hidden network after credentials set

2015-01-22 Thread Selene Scriven
I tried this in rtm krillin 208 and it worked fine for me. Not sure if
it's fixed, or if it's intermittent, or if I was just using a different
UI... but it worked.

[Bug 1408258] Re: An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

2015-01-22 Thread Brian Murray
This is probably due to a PPA you have enabled and it providing packages
that are greater in version numbering than those available in Trusty.
Try disabling the PPA and downgrading its packages using 'ppa-purge' and
try the upgrade again.

[Bug 1413270] Re: Utopic -> Vivid upgrade displays failure warning

2015-01-22 Thread Erick Brunzell
Hi Brian,

I got busy and forgot to add a comment about follow up testing. About 20
hours after this initial test on i386 I performed a second test on the
same hardware but with an amd64 OS and I got no such failure warning. So
I just happened to think, is it possible that this could be arch
specific?
