[Bug 1372609] Re: Touchpad detected as mouse on Asus ux303ln laptop

2015-02-17 Thread Pilot6
Oh, I see. Then it may be a good idea to remove this completely. Practically
this "palm detection" is of no use.
I had to set syndaemon for that either way. It just makes trouble for people
with thick fingers, or some revisions have various thresholds. I guess, we
can't set anything there.

[Bug 1422328] Re: Allow users to create their own aggregator scopes without programming

2015-02-17 Thread Selene Scriven
FWIW, this functionality is covered in Android by using widgets. Users
can arrange arbitrary widgets freely in several Android launchers, such
as ADWLauncher. Each app can provide multiple widgets for different
styles and functions, to make that app's data and operations usable
directly from the launcher screens without having to actually launch the
app... and the user can easily group or arrange them however they like
with a few taps and gestures.

Just as a point of reference for what people may be expecting as
baseline functionality.

If anyone in design would like a demo, I have a friend in London who
loves Ubuntu and would be happy to show how this UI works along with
several other useful concepts. I'd also love to see more end-user-
configurable scopes.

2015-02-17 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1422885] Re: package linux-image-3.13.0-46-generic 3.13.0-46.75 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

[Bug 1422898] [NEW] Excessive CPU usage, even when the screen is turned off

2015-02-17 Thread Niklas Wenzel
Public bug reported:

Since mako image r102 (vivid-proposed), the CPU usage of Unity8 is very
excessive and increasing over time.
After boot, the phone runs smooth but after some time it lags heavily.

As you can see from the attached output of the "top" command, Unity8
consumes 23% of CPU power when the screen is TURNED OFF (command run via
adb). When the screen is on, this figure is much higher and sometimes
rises up to 60%.

[Bug 1422115] Re: il sottoprocesso installato script di post-removal ha restituito lo stato di errore 127

2015-02-17 Thread Seth Arnold
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System ->
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

As a workaround, one of the classes can be renamed. But we need a better
solution for this. Maybe allowing a list of classes, instead of a single
item as the dictionary value.

[Bug 1422904] [NEW] Autopilot returns the wrong custom proxy object when a previous one was registered with the same name

2015-02-17 Thread Leo Arias
Public bug reported:

We are hitting this issue on the sanity test, where we have two
different custom proxy objects named LanguagePage. One is from system
settings and the other is from unity.

So the object registry will have:

'LanguagePage':

When we try to select the language page from unity, it is nowhere on the
registry so it will return a generic custom proxy object, instead of the
custom one.

[Bug 1417937] Re: qemu appears to be built without CONFIG_NUMA defined

2015-02-17 Thread Serge Hallyn
** Description changed:

+ ===
+ SRU Justification
+ 1. Impact: openstack cannot use numactl to pin kvm to cpus
+ 2. Test case: ldd /usr/bin/qemu-system-x86* | grep numa
+ 3. Regression potential: this causes qemu to be build against libnuma. It
should only enable users who wish to use numa to do so, though of course new
code will be enabled so unepxected regressions are possible.
+ ===
+
  When running

  qemu-system-x86_64 -object memory-backend-file,prealloc=yes,mem-
  path=/dev/hugepages/libvirt/qemu,size=4096M,id=ram-node0,host-
  nodes=0,policy=bind

I got the following error: "NUMA node binding are not supported by
  this QEMU"

Looking at the qemu code, it appears that this means that the package
was built without CONFIG_QEMU being defined. The "host-
nodes=0,policy=bind" functionality is in use in OpenStack, and so it
would be problematic if it is not supported in Ubuntu.

[Bug 1421949] Re: Help

Thanks!

[Bug 1418033] Re: Location service should stop updates for sessions that have been identified as stale (sigstop'd) and gone

2015-02-17 Thread Ricardo Salveti
** Summary changed:

- Location service should stop updates for sessions that have been identified
as stale (sigstop'd)
+ Location service should stop updates for sessions that have been identified
as stale (sigstop'd) and gone

** Description changed:

- The heuristic might be as simple as:
+ current build number: 237
+ device name: krillin
+ channel: ubuntu-touch/ubuntu-rtm/14.09-proposed
+ last update: 2015-02-17 17:04:34
+ version version: 237
+ version ubuntu: 20150217
+ version device: 20150216-fe747ac
+ version custom: 20150207-538-29-183

- If providing updates to clients fails more than 10 times, stop all
- updates.
+ Location service stays active when a client app is sigstopped and closed
+ by the user.
+
+ To reproduce:
+ 1 - Reboot the phone;
+ 2 - Run logcat as root: $ sudo /system/bin/logcat
+ 3 - Open HERE maps;
+ 4 - Wait for it to get a location lock (and also see that you should be
getting quite a few messages in logcat, all gps related)
+ 5 - Move the app to background (and wait at least 3 seconds for it to get
sigstopped);
+ 6 - Close the app;
+
+ From logcat's output you should see that GPS will still be active, while
+ it shouldn't, as the client is gone.
+
+ It also shouldn't stay active when the app is in background, but that is
+ covered by bug 1422889.

[Bug 1311316] Re: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock

2015-02-17 Thread Burko
I just did. Im curious how it will turn out. I just rebooted, so I will
anticipate how long everything works out as expected.

How did you came across this assumption that I have light-locker
installed? Did I miss a hint?

Public bug reported:

current build number: 237
device name: krillin
channel: ubuntu-touch/ubuntu-rtm/14.09-proposed
last update: 2015-02-17 17:04:34
version version: 237
version ubuntu: 20150217
version device: 20150216-fe747ac
version custom: 20150207-538-29-183

Using location-service and qtubuntu-sensors from
https://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa-service/+archive/ubuntu-rtm/landing-009
location-service2.1+15.04.20150213~rtm-0ubuntu1
qtubuntu-sensors0.6+15.04.20150216~rtm-0ubuntu1

To reproduce:
1 - Reboot the phone;
2 - Run logcat as root: sudo /system/bin/logcat
3 - Open the HERE app (or any other website that uses location, such as google
maps) and wait for it to get the location data
4 - Move the app to the background;
5 - Check logcat and see that GPS is still active;

After closing the app the GPS hardware is disabled though.

Hey, thanks for the information. So, you get that value even without
large contact area? I never managed to get something like that during
normal usage, but maybe other devices have different thresholds. In that
case I'd just drop that part of the code, it is not important enough
that it should stay despite such problems.

2015-02-17 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1372609] Re: Touchpad detected as mouse on Asus ux303ln laptop

2015-02-17 Thread Pilot6
Chris,

0xff or 255 shows that large area is pressed. This is built in palm detection
as I understand.
You probably have too thick fingers ;-)

Maybe Mathias has more information, but it seems that we do not know the
protocol well enough to disable this feature or set it up anyway.

Anoter idea is maybe not just return and wait for some other input, like
it is now done, but after some timeout call focaltech_process_abs_packet
again.

If there is no such problem in Windows, it must be done somehow else.

[Bug 1408107] Re: Can't remove huge files from samba share on first attempt - Input/output error

2015-02-17 Thread Ross Lagerwall
I don't think this is a gvfs issue, the timeout is coming from
libsmbclient which gvfs uses to communicate with the server. Deleting a
file should be quick though so timing out is strange.

How long does it take to timeout? Maybe there's something strange
happening like the server crashing which causes the connection to
timeout?

This is the interesting bit from the logs, where two stat() calls in a
row give different results:

I don't want to give you more work than necessary.

If we can get it for utopic that'd be great...at least then we'd have
one formally released version of Ubuntu that supported it.

[Bug 1366165] Re: No hybrid GPU and this error appears: Failed to spawn hybrid-gfx main process: unable to execute: No such file or directory

2015-02-17 Thread Brad Parker
I have the same problem on my work PC. Any time my monitor is put to
sleep for inactivity, the video signal never returns within X. After the
inactivity, I turn the monitor back on after it has shut off due to no
signal, and moving the mouse/typing keys will not bring the signal back,
monitor just says no signal. If I press ctrl+alt+f1 then I get a console
and the monitor comes back to life. I have to restart lightdm (killing
all my programs) to get back into X. dmesg only shows the following:

[4219918.274807] init: tty1 main process ended, respawning
[4219923.733629] init: Failed to spawn hybrid-gfx main process: unable to

[Bug 1372609] Re: Touchpad detected as mouse on Asus ux303ln laptop

2015-02-17 Thread Chris
Mathias: After reproducing the error while running my logging/parser,
I've been able to identify that the pointer freeze issue is happening in
the code you linked. Lines 188-192 are an if condition invalidating the
input whenever the final byte is set to 255. In my logging, I'm seeing
that that byte is typically 16, 32, 64, and as the comments in the code
indicate, seems to be related to how much of my finger I allow to
contact the touchpad. However, that byte occasionally (and spuriously)
gets set to 255; once set, it stays set at 255 until the touch is
removed and re-applied.

My current thinking is that removing the if condition would be
sufficient to prevent this issue, but I worry about side-effects when
the final byte is set to 255 for valid reasons. Any ideas on the best
way to proceed?

[Bug 1418286] Re: kernel BUG at /build/buildd/linux-3.18.0/mm/slub.c:3334!

2015-02-17 Thread Luis Henriques
>From the above, it looks like you are not running the test kernel. I
don't think 'uname -a' would show the "lp1418286v1" string, but the
build date should be Feb 17, not 6. (BTW, running something like
'dmesg|grep "Linux version"' should show that "~lp1418286v1" string).

So, it looks like the installation of the 4 .deb files failed, in
particular the linux-image-3.18.0-13-generic* one. Could you please
take a look at the output and see if you see any error? (The "Request
for unknown module key..." lines seems to indicate that the linux-image-
extra... package was indeed installed.)
