[Bug 1431179] [NEW] USB 4G modem detected as USB mass storage
Public bug reported: I lack the technical knowledge to know if this is a bug in udev, systemd or another component. After the switch to systemd, my 4G Huawei USB modem no longer functions as a modem unless I run usb_modeswitch to flip its state from USB mass storage. The command I issue and its output is below, which also show the Vendor and Product ID. Strangely, it does not do this every time. Yesterday when I updated using apt-get dist-upgrade upon reboot the modem worked as expected. But from a cold boot this morning it did not. $ sudo usb_modeswitch -v 0x12d1 -p 0x1f01 -J [sudo] password for damon: Look for default devices ... product ID matched Found devices in default mode (1) Access device 003 on bus 003 Current configuration number is 1 Use interface number 0 Use endpoints 0x01 (out) and 0x81 (in) USB description data (for identification) - Manufacturer: HUAWEI Technology Product: HUAWEI Mobile Serial No.: - Using standard Huawei switching message Looking for active driver ... [Bug 1431138] Re: [systemd] Unbootable Vivid after poweroutage + file system with errors
> I know that systemd boot takes ages to boot That's certainly not "known". If you use ecryptfs, you were most likely affected by bug 953875 which got only fixed yesterday. That would have caused a 90 second boot delay. It's likely that this was the issue (check if you have a commented out cryptswap in /etc/crypttab). [Bug 1427033] Re: lubuntu 14.04.2 x64 - Full freeze of system on Amilo A1650G Laptop
Possible that I have found the error. I said at the beginning, there is no problem with the temperature. Was perhaps a mistake. Have Windows 7 is installed for testing. It is noticeable after a while, the surface of the laptop is a little cooler. It looks as if the power-saving features in open source Radeon driver are not complete. As a result, the graphics card under Linux is much hotter than under Windows. Unfortunately there are propietary drivers no longer support the old card and the newer driver does not run on current xserver version. I can not directly check the temperature unfortunately. The card has no sensor. Have googled and found some information. Especially for Dynamic Power Management, which is not standard 'activated in 14.04 despite the contrary statement. sadly it does not help when activated manualy. last supported ubuntu version of closed source driver is 9.00. Will test in the next few days. But is a little old for my taste. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1427033 Title: lubuntu 14.04.2 x64 - Full freeze of system on Amilo A1650G Laptop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1427033/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

dino99, the next step is to fully commit bisect from kernel 2 to 3.19 in order to identify the last good kernel commit, followed immediately by the first bad one. This will allow for a more expedited analysis of the root cause of your issue. Could you please do this following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection ? [Bug 1431138] [NEW] [systemd] Unbootable Vivid after poweroutage + file system with errors
Public bug reported: Guys, I started to use Vivid with systemd yesterday, and today, my system froze due to lack of ram memory (my problem, obviously). I tried to "reboot" it, without success... The reboot command did not succeed. I tried to reboot by clicking on Unity menu, didn't worked either. So, I pressed the power button to turn my machine off. Then, the Ubuntu did not booted anymore... I know that systemd boot takes ages to boot (upstart boots in a 2 seconds) but, this time, 5 minutes passed and nothing. I rebooted my machine again, now, using upstart (Grub -> Advanced Options -> Upstart) and guess what? The plymouth screen (I think), was asking me to "press F" to fix file system errors! That message did not appeared when booting with systemd. Removing "quiet splash" did not helped, I saw only a black screen (when with systemd). Definitively systemd isn't ready for prime time on Ubuntu. I'm using Jessie on another machine, systemd runs just fine there. [Bug 1430971] Re: Users not warned about switch to fcitx and no instructions are given
I've already removed all fcitx packages except fcitx-data, libfcitx- config4, libfcitx-glient0, libfcitx-utils0 (all required by Unity Control Center, as you know) and reset the system IM back to Ibus; so I'm back to normal. I didn't really question the fcitx packages in the upgrade since it's now supported and it seemed reasonable to have it readily available. I assumed the bug was with indicator-keyboard because that's where problem showed itself in a big way, but based on your earlier comment I wonder if the bug isn't in unity-settings-daemon and how the current IM is detected. I have a third laptop that I had not yet upgraded. This time I added in ibus-libpinyin IM *before* doing the upgrade. This time fcitx was added to the startup programs and set itself in update-alternatives for xinput.d, but it did not replace Ibus as the system-wide IM in Language Support as it had before. The topbar had both indicators. When I switched the system-wide IM to fcitx and then set it back to Ibus (restarting each time), the ibus-libpinyin IM had been removed from Text Entry. So apart from the question of the fcitx packages showing up in the upgrade, it seems like various config scripts are not correctly detecting Ibus. If I can do any additional debugging, please let me know. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1430971 Title: Users not warned about switch to fcitx and no instructions are given To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-keyboard/+bug/1430971/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 432785] Re: add support to ecryptfs-setup-swap for keyed hibernation
Dustin Kirkland, according to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelHibernate this is the master/meta report scoped to having hibernate work with an encrypted swap, a feature that other encryption implementations (ex. Windows+BitLocker) have been able to accomplish for some time now. Hence, just to clarify, is it that you don't intend to implement this ever, don't intend to implement this anytime soon, or the implementation would need to occur in a different package? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/432785 Title: add support to ecryptfs-setup-swap for keyed hibernation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ecryptfs/+bug/432785/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks Eric, The bug seems to be that the fcitx packages (particularly fcitx-bin) were pulled in somehow, but it isn't clear to me why this happened. [Bug 1431122] [NEW] Cannot change VPN settings
Public bug reported: In the Network Settings, it is impossible to change the configuration of a VPN connection. The Apply button is always grayed out, even though I change the values of some fields, in any of the configuration pages (Identity, IPv4 or IPv6). On the Reset page, the Reset button is not grayed out but has no effect. ** Affects: network-manager-openvpn (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1431122 Title: Cannot change VPN settings To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-openvpn/+bug/1431122/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 966480] Re: The prompt asking for media removal is not shown at the end of the installation
> at the time the plymouth upstart jobs were written, plymouthd was only forking > once - and correctly opening its socket before detaching from the foreground. This is not correct. main.c:main calls ply_create_daemon before start_boot_server, so the process does fork before binding the port. When the error occurs the plymouthd log states: [main.c] on_display_message:not displaying message Please remove installation media and close the tray (if any) then press ENTER: as no splash Note "not displaying message... as no splash". That error message only occurs when the splash screen is not being shown. It is not related to unmounting the filesystem. > And considering we're discussing a problem that occurs only on shutdown - > there have been no problems with reliability of plymouth splash appearing on > boot due to a corresponding race condition - I don't think this is at all a > likely explanation for the behavior. Boot and shutdown are different. On boot, plymouth.conf executes plymouthd, then plymouth-splash.conf executes plymouth show-splash. On shutdown, plymouth-shutdown.conf executes both plymouthd and plymouth. Since one script executes both, the timing is tighter. I have tested the patch and it works. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/966480 Title: The prompt asking for media removal is not shown at the end of the installation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/plymouth/+bug/966480/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
