[Bug 1431179] [NEW] USB 4G modem detected as USB mass storage

2015-03-11 Thread Damon Lynch
Public bug reported:

I lack the technical knowledge to know if this is a bug in udev, systemd
or another component.

After the switch to systemd, my 4G Huawei USB modem no longer functions
as a modem unless I run usb_modeswitch to flip its state from USB mass
storage. The command I issue and its output is below, which also show
the Vendor and Product ID.

Strangely, it does not do this every time. Yesterday when I updated
using apt-get dist-upgrade upon reboot the modem worked as expected. But
from a cold boot this morning it did not.

$ sudo usb_modeswitch -v 0x12d1 -p 0x1f01 -J

[Bug 1431141] Re: systemd-logind crashed with SIGABRT in udev_device_get_sysattr_value()

2015-03-11 Thread Martin Pitt
This crashes on reading
/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:02.0/drm/card0/card0-DP-1/status, but
there is no assertion message or similar. Can you please do

   cat /sys/class/drm/card0*/*status

in a terminal? Does that give you any error message? Please copy&paste
it here. Thanks!

[Bug 1363150] Re: [FFe] Fcitx input method integration in Unity

This might be off topic, but I think this update caused fcitx to be
installed on my machine so I now have an indicator on my tray. Is this
supposed to be the intended effect or can I safely remove it?

[Bug 1431138] Re: [systemd] Unbootable Vivid after poweroutage + file system with errors

2015-03-11 Thread Martin Pitt
> I know that systemd boot takes ages to boot

That's certainly not "known". If you use ecryptfs, you were most likely
affected by bug 953875 which got only fixed yesterday. That would have
caused a 90 second boot delay. It's likely that this was the issue
(check if you have a commented out cryptswap in /etc/crypttab).

We actually do show progress on file system checks, but it seems we are
missing the part for fixing errors.

what happens if you try to make only one monitro active via xrandr on
the command line. What happens if you try another GUI frontend for for
xrandr. You can also set a xrandr setting in default apps for lxsession
to make it permenant. Also the unxrandr command as part of arnadr can
give you. Also if you can please test from the current development
release 15.04 as that has a newer version of lxrandr which might have it
fixed.

in Trusty, this issue can still be observed.

[Bug 1430997] [NEW] Starcatalog download doesn't work

2015-03-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On my Ubuntu 14.10 pc and with Stellarium 0.12.4 (German translation)
the download for Starcatalogs is broken. When I click (translating)
"Download catalog 5 of 9" the download starts normaly but at sometime
simply stops (The progressbar dissapears, the catalog doesnt get loaded
after restart and no error message). No matter how often I click the
button. And sometimes it "downloads" the 17 MB in like 3 seconds and
sometimes in a minute (would guess takes about 20 seconds to download
17MB normaly).

Best regards , Max.

[Bug 1431149] [NEW] XFCE 4.12 Black screen after wakeup from suspending by closing the laptop lid

2015-03-11 Thread Michael Wyraz
Public bug reported:

This seems to be a regression to #1303736. I have installed Xubuntu
14.04.2 and verified that suspend/resume works. Then I've upgraded to
XFCE 4.12 using the ppa. After the upgrade, the problem occurs again.

Steps to reproduce:

- Fresh install of XUbuntu 14.04.2 on an Acer TravelMate-8371
- > Lid close, Lid open, Wakeup by keypress, Login -> works fine

- Installing xfce 4.12 from PPA
- > Lid close, Lid open, Wakeup by keypress, Login -> Screen remains black

No other software was installed for this test. Only plain install of xubuntu
from official ISO to fresh harddisk + upgrade xfce via ppa.

[Bug 1427033] Re: lubuntu 14.04.2 x64 - Full freeze of system on Amilo A1650G Laptop

2015-03-11 Thread MetzKetz
Possible that I have found the error.

I said at the beginning, there is no problem with the temperature. Was
perhaps a mistake.

Have Windows 7 is installed for testing. It is noticeable after a while,
the surface of the laptop is a little cooler.

It looks as if the power-saving features in open source Radeon driver are not
complete.
As a result, the graphics card under Linux is much hotter than under Windows.

Unfortunately there are propietary drivers no longer support the old
card and the newer driver does not run on current xserver version.

I can not directly check the temperature unfortunately. The card has no
sensor.

Have googled and found some information. Especially for Dynamic Power
Management, which is not standard 'activated in 14.04 despite the
contrary statement.

sadly it does not help when activated manualy.

last supported ubuntu version of closed source driver is 9.00.
Will test in the next few days. But is a little old for my taste.

2015-03-11 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
dino99, the next step is to fully commit bisect from kernel 2 to 3.19 in
order to identify the last good kernel commit, followed immediately by
the first bad one. This will allow for a more expedited analysis of the
root cause of your issue. Could you please do this following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection ?

Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit
bisecting.

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/3.10.3-0ubuntu10.2, and in
the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See

enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help

[Bug 1431138] [NEW] [systemd] Unbootable Vivid after poweroutage + file system with errors

2015-03-11 Thread Thiago Martins
Public bug reported:

Guys,

I started to use Vivid with systemd yesterday, and today, my system
froze due to lack of ram memory (my problem, obviously).

I tried to "reboot" it, without success... The reboot command did not
succeed. I tried to reboot by clicking on Unity menu, didn't worked
either.

So, I pressed the power button to turn my machine off.

Then, the Ubuntu did not booted anymore... I know that systemd boot
takes ages to boot (upstart boots in a 2 seconds) but, this time, 5
minutes passed and nothing.

I rebooted my machine again, now, using upstart (Grub -> Advanced
Options -> Upstart) and guess what? The plymouth screen (I think), was
asking me to "press F" to fix file system errors!

That message did not appeared when booting with systemd. Removing "quiet
splash" did not helped, I saw only a black screen (when with systemd).

Definitively systemd isn't ready for prime time on Ubuntu. I'm using
Jessie on another machine, systemd runs just fine there.

Regards,
Thiago

[Bug 1430971] Re: Users not warned about switch to fcitx and no instructions are given

2015-03-11 Thread Eric Chaskes
I've already removed all fcitx packages except fcitx-data, libfcitx-
config4, libfcitx-glient0, libfcitx-utils0 (all required by Unity
Control Center, as you know) and reset the system IM back to Ibus; so
I'm back to normal.

I didn't really question the fcitx packages in the upgrade since it's
now supported and it seemed reasonable to have it readily available.

I assumed the bug was with indicator-keyboard because that's where
problem showed itself in a big way, but based on your earlier comment I
wonder if the bug isn't in unity-settings-daemon and how the current IM
is detected.

I have a third laptop that I had not yet upgraded. This time I added in
ibus-libpinyin IM *before* doing the upgrade. This time fcitx was added
to the startup programs and set itself in update-alternatives for
xinput.d, but it did not replace Ibus as the system-wide IM in Language
Support as it had before. The topbar had both indicators. When I
switched the system-wide IM to fcitx and then set it back to Ibus
(restarting each time), the ibus-libpinyin IM had been removed from Text
Entry.

So apart from the question of the fcitx packages showing up in the
upgrade, it seems like various config scripts are not correctly
detecting Ibus.

If I can do any additional debugging, please let me know.

They work fine, thanks !

Do you mean leaving those packages there for a bit longer so I can point
our BMC FW vendor to them ? Their remote VGA interface has a bug and I
want them to try

Cheers,
Ben.

Works around APT not being able to resolve dependencies with the utopic stack,
but are Mesa 10.1.3 dev packages a good idea for Mesa 10.3.2?

2015-03-11 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
DrTobbe, the issue you are reporting is an upstream one. Could you
please report this problem to the appropriate mailing list (linux-input)
by following the instructions verbatim at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/kernel ?

Please provide a direct URL to your e-mail to the mailing list once you

[Bug 432785] Re: add support to ecryptfs-setup-swap for keyed hibernation

2015-03-11 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Dustin Kirkland, according to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelHibernate this is the master/meta
report scoped to having hibernate work with an encrypted swap, a feature
that other encryption implementations (ex. Windows+BitLocker) have been
able to accomplish for some time now.

Hence, just to clarify, is it that you don't intend to implement this
ever, don't intend to implement this anytime soon, or the implementation
would need to occur in a different package?

[Bug 1431129] [NEW] transmission-gtk speed unstable with large files (10GB+)

2015-03-11 Thread Patrick Fafali Agbokou
Public bug reported:

When downloading a large file (10GB+), download speed fluctuates drastically
(rises normally to maximum, suddenly drops down to zero). Before it is asked,
please note that this does not occur when downloading 1GB- files. Speed
rremains steady at the maximum. This annoying behaviour only occurs with large
files.
The upload speed is also affected by the fluctuation.

What was being done
=
Downloading large file

What is expected to happen
==
Download speed steady at maximum

What happened instead
==
Download speed repeatedly drops to 0

This needs quite a bit of work, specially because it was disabled with
0.2.0-2 (and after enabling it again it seems the problems are still
there). Will ask Tiago and Boiko to take a look to see if they can at
least add that to their backlog.

It's still required afaik, and that is still true for quite a few
other packages (just check the reverse-depends on it).

Yes, after fighting with some really obscure issues during this cycle
we decided it's just better to force the compiler version, so I'd
prefer us to keep it.

[Bug 1430971] Re: Users not warned about switch to fcitx and no instructions are given

2015-03-11 Thread William Hua
Thanks Eric,

The bug seems to be that the fcitx packages (particularly fcitx-bin)
were pulled in somehow, but it isn't clear to me why this happened.
Nothing has a hard depends on it, and trying to apt-get purge it doesn't
remove anything suspicious (like indicator-keyboard, unity-settings-
daemon, or unity-control-center).

Can you please try to do an apt-get purge of fcitx-bin? Please note any
non-related fcitx packages that are removed as a consequence of that (if
something particularly important like unity-settings-daemon or unity-
control-center are removed, just abort).

[Bug 966480] Re: The prompt asking for media removal is not shown at the end of the installation

2015-03-11 Thread Chris Bainbridge
> at the time the plymouth upstart jobs were written, plymouthd was only forking
> once - and correctly opening its socket before detaching from the foreground.

This is not correct. main.c:main calls ply_create_daemon before
start_boot_server, so the process does fork before binding the port.

When the error occurs the plymouthd log states:

[main.c] on_display_message:not displaying message Please remove
installation media and close the tray (if any) then press ENTER: as no
splash

Note "not displaying message... as no splash". That error message only
occurs when the splash screen is not being shown. It is not related to
unmounting the filesystem.

> And considering we're discussing a problem that occurs only on shutdown -
> there have been no problems with reliability of plymouth splash appearing on
> boot due to a corresponding race condition - I don't think this is at all a
> likely explanation for the behavior.

Boot and shutdown are different. On boot, plymouth.conf executes
plymouthd, then plymouth-splash.conf executes plymouth show-splash. On
shutdown, plymouth-shutdown.conf executes both plymouthd and plymouth.
Since one script executes both, the timing is tighter.

I have tested the patch and it works.
