Re: [Bug 1268257] Re: nvidia-331-updates 331.38-0ubuntu3: nvidia-331-updates kernel module failed to build, with only error: objdump: '... .tmp_nv.o': No such file

2015-03-28 Thread Jeb E.
I don't care so much about Nouveau as I do the Nvidia official drivers. I
never had many problems if at all stability-wise with Nouveau, but I like
the official Nvidia drivers better regardless because they are built
specifically for and by Nvidia for Nvidia products, allowing a more
reliable, consistent graphics experience and snappier speeds.

On Mon, Mar 23, 2015 at 1:53 PM, Etienne URBAH eur...@free.fr wrote:

This bug is still there with Linux kernel 3.16.0-33

But the 'nouveau' module is currently making a lot of progress : For
 example 'nouveau' bug described at
 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87819 is fixed.

So, I hope to get devinitively rid of the 'nvidia' bug thanks to the
'nouveau' module embedded in Linux kernel 3.19 brought by Ubuntu Vivid
 coming soon.

[Bug 1437700] [NEW] Active file selection is not removed on a new search result

2015-03-28 Thread Jussi Lind
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1) Search for a file so that exactly one file is found
2) Select the file
3) Copy it (Ctrl+C) and paste it to another folder
4) Search for a new file so that exactly one file is found, but don't clear the
file selection
5) Observe, that despite a new result, the file selection is still active

Now, confusing things will follow:

6) Copy the file as it's already selected and paste it the to same folder as
the previous file
7) Observe, that an overwrite confirmation dialog opens. The file selection was
pointing to the previous file despite the fact that the new file was
highlighted during copy.

What should happen:

- The file selection/highlight should be removed on a new search result
so that user has to explicitly select the new file.

[Bug 584632]

2015-03-28 Thread Aryeh Gregor
For those who want to see this in Thunderbird 38 -- I suggest talking to
the Thunderbird people and asking them if they can cherry-pick the patch
for Thunderbird without affecting Firefox. If it's really a huge
improvement for them, maybe they'll be willing to accept it despite lack
of testing. Perhaps file a bug against the Thunderbird product, or get
on IRC/e-mail/etc. with the appropriate people.

/usr/share/applications/nautilus.desktop and lock that to the launcher (in the
files view of that folder three items show as Files, it is the one that is
about 600 bytes long that is wanted). Then to fix the duplicate icon problem
add to the end of the [Desktop Entry] section of that file the line
StartupWMClass=nautilus

[Bug 1436427] Re: Turning off WiFi doesn't set a route after the modem connects data

2015-03-28 Thread Tony Espy
The attached script is a simple stress test that's run on the phone. It
toggles WiFi on, sleeps for 10 seconds, then toggles WiFi off and checks
for an empty routing table, and then sleeps for another 10 seconds. I
currently has a hard-coded loop count.

The script enables/disables WiFi by toggling NM's 'WirelessEnabled'
property.

To work properly, it needs to be run with a previously connect WiFi
access point available. It also assumes that a valid SIM card is
inserted in slot 1 of a krillin, as it checks the routing table for a
'ccmni0' device when WiFi gets disabled.

Finally, I also usually ensure that the phone will not lock the screen
when this test is run by setting the system settings privacy setting
such that the phone is never locked.

[Bug 1434738] Re: Vivid Wallpaper hashed

2015-03-28 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Jakub W, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As
per
http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=5212854swLangOid=8swEnvOid=4158
an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (F.
61). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1436427] Re: Turning off WiFi doesn't set a route after the modem connects data

2015-03-28 Thread Tony Espy
@Michael

Thanks for the feedback.

I'd like keep this bug specifically for the problem that occurs when
WiFi is toggled off ( as per the bug description and summary ). The
problem when going out of range of the access point may be something
completely different, and is being addressed in bug #1410113.

Also, problems with the location service while related, should be
considered separate too.

Regarding the toggle WiFi problem, I created a stress test to try and
reproduce the problem, while I will have reviewed on Monday, to ensure
that I didn't get anything wrong. The WiFi toggle switch, contrary to
my original understanding, doesn't toggle the urfkill switch directly,
instead, it toggles the value of the global NetworkManager property
'WirelessEnabled'. NM in turn will enable/disable WiFi via urfkill,
which in turn on krillin uses hybris to load/unload the WiFi driver.

I believe the problem we hit when WiFi is disabled, and the routing
table is empty, is caused by a race between rild and NetworkManager,
however until I can reproduce, it's just that... a theory.

As mentioned, I was able to reproduce this once two days ago, but
haven't managed to reproduce it since. I've run 500 iterations of
enable/disable WiFi using my stress test, and haven't yet hit the issue.
This is why I reduced the Importance of *this* scenario to High. The
out-of-range problem will now be my priority.

Finally, one other bug that may compound this problem is a long-standing
issue with the network indicator which shows extreme latency sometimes
displaying the correct network connection to the user. So even though
the indicator may show that you have a mobile data connection, it may
not actually be showing the true state of things. See bug #1339792 for
more details. There's a concerted effort to fix issues with the
indicator; ubuntu silo-6 contains a new version which hopefully will
improve this situation.

[Bug 1437741] Re: [SRU] keystone drop invalid oslo.serialization requirement

2015-03-28 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1437741/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you

[Bug 1418295] Re: Black screen after resuming from suspend

2015-03-28 Thread Hans Korstens
As a follower and affected user by this bug, the workflow is unclear to
me. Is Jeremy Jongsma asked to file a report upstream, or Job as
assignee?

In the meantime the importance has been reduced from critical to medium,
and status from confirmed to incomplete. These changes in status
probably means it will go down in priority and become more elusive,
despite Jeremy having provided all sorts of logs and info.

I'd be willing to do additional testing/logging if needed.

So: who's got the ball on this issue?

reliable, consistent graphics experience and snappier speeds.

The Nouveau drivers don't support accelerated graphics. That makes the

[Bug 1404247] Re: Vivid Wallpaper hashed

2015-03-28 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
jerrylamos, as per http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/desktops-
and-all-in-ones/thinkcentre-m-series-desktops/thinkcentre-m58p an update
to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (5CKT77A). If
you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

[Bug 1437719] [NEW] Black Screen on user switch

2015-03-28 Thread Rusty Shackleford
Public bug reported:

When switching users (primarly using Ctrl-Alt-F(7-10) the monitor will
sometimes go black. This happens once or twice a day, although on
occasion it doesn't occur for several days. It has occurred at least
once a week since I installed Ubuntu 14.04.1. It seems to be more of a
problem since moving to 14.04.2 - I did perform installation of the
Utopic Kernel, X, and MesaGL packages, but this is only perception. At
the same time I switched from Unity to Cinnamon (Jeremy Clarkson isn't
the only dinosaur roaming the world) - but I have confirmed that just
running Unity desktops is vunerable.

The display can be restored by sudo service lightdm restart - run from
an ssh login from another system.

Steps to consistently reproduce the problem is simply to perform abusive
user stress testing: switching from one user to another rapidly: as soon
as the display switches go back to the other. Usually I can get a black
screen with this method in under a minute with Unity desktops.

I have the same issue with another system (Dell Vostro 3550) reported in
Bug #1437557 - submitting a new defect since this is different hardware
and even though the defects look the same there might be differences
underneath the hood causing the problem.

2015-03-28 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1437722] [NEW] ubuntu MATE 15.04: mate-settings-daemon problem with systemd

2015-03-28 Thread Christian Zigotzky
Public bug reported:

With systemd, the mate-settings-daemon starts 10 minutes later after the
desktop login. It means it works but I have to wait 10 minutes after the login.
I found a way to reactivate Upstart. You can reactivate Upstart with sudo
apt-get install upstart-sysv. After that the mate-settings-daemon works
without any problems.

With systemd (within 10 minutes):

sudo systemctl status org.mate.settingsd

Output:

org.mate.settingsd.service
Loaded: not-found (Reason: No such file or directory)
Active: inactive (dead)

sudo systemctl status org.mate.service

Output:

● org.mate.service
Loaded: not-found (Reason: No such file or directory)
Active: inactive (dead)

mate-settings-daemon

Output:

** (mate-settings-daemon:3091): WARNING **: Failed to acquire

** (mate-settings-daemon:3091): WARNING **: Could not acquire name

Workaround:
The touchpad works with hid-generic, if it is forces to handle the device. Yet,
multitouch and dragging does not work.

[Bug 1434758] Re: mysqld: errno: 24 - Too many open files

2015-03-28 Thread postadelmaga
@cooolman

do you have this file on your system
`/lib/systemd/system/mysqld.service` ?

I'm not sure why but if you boot with systemd you are supposed to set
the limits in service file first:

LimitNOFILE=infinity
LimitMEMLOCK=infinity

After that mysqld service will be allowed to open more connection ( as
per your setting in my.cnf )

On my system `/lib/systemd/system/mysqld.service` is missing.

[Bug 1425304] Re: Plymouth does not display correctly

2015-03-28 Thread D. Charles Pyle
When I run the 3.16 kernel in 14.04.2, both monitors on my dual monitor
setup shut down with loss of signal until the system comes to the Unity
login screen. When I run either 3.13 or 3.14 kernels there is no
problem.

I have found that commenting out lines in the /etc/grub.d/10_lupin file
and setting vt_handoff=1 to vt_handoff=0 in the /etc/grub.d/10_linux
file will allow the plymouth screen to display properly on a 3.16
kernel.

Whatever the 3.16 kernels do differently seems to prevent the plymouth
screen from displaying on boot unless vt_handoff is disabled in a file
(two files if the user is running Ubuntu in a Wubi install).

The relevant lines in the /etc/grub.d/10_lupin file to disable by
commenting them out are as follows:

#for word in $GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT; do
#  if [ $word = splash ]; then
#GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=$GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT \$vt_handoff
# fi
#done

After that, plymouth displays correctly every bootup.
