[Bug 1359249] Re: Launching PAVUControl works from Xubuntu, but not from Xfce
same as #1443229. I investigate the source code of indicator-sound, and find that in src/service.vala: var env = Environment.get_variable ("DESKTOP_SESSION"); string cmd; if (env == "xubuntu" || env == "ubuntustudio") cmd = "pavucontrol"; else I think you would support more desktop environment such as XFCE by adding " || env == "xfce"" -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1359249 Title: Launching PAVUControl works from Xubuntu, but not from Xfce To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-sound/+bug/1359249/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1384342] Re: kernel messages intel_crtc_wait_for_pending_flips correlate to compiz hang
I experience this at least once per day on a Ubuntu 14.04-installation with LTS hardware enablement upgrade to kernel 3.16 (and newer Xorg components). Typically, full screen video playback will suddenly freeze (audio continues to play). At that point I must switch to VT 1, which takes about a minute to happen, and then back to VT 7, to unfreeze the desktop. The error in the kernel log does not appear immediately, but rather after having switched to VT 1 (intel_crtc_wait_for_pending_flips+0x171/0x180). Typically, the app that was playing video will crash. Cristopher, it is not only one commit in 4.0. All Mathias Gottschlag commits fix the issue for all Asus models. My patch includes them all. [Bug 1443764] Re: Black screen of death: system suddenly stopped working soon after upgrade to kernel 3.16.0.34-generic
It happened again! I rebooted and I was working with not problems. Then I plugged in my external drive to my 4-port hub and started running backintime-gnome. A few seconds later the BSOD appeared again. It said that there was a kernel panic and an unhandled exception in one of the interrupts. Also some message about usb-ehcd (?). I hard rebooted again. This time I have attached my external drive to a USB port *on* my laptop. No problem so far! Could it be due to the 4-port hub then? Maybe! Please note that the 4-port hub is still attached to the computer and an external keyboard is plugged into it. [Bug 1432843] Re: Lubuntu failed to boot
I've spent some more time in tracking this down. If you have a video adapter that is 3D capable and supports KMS, such as the aforementioned AMD E350 APU, you shouldn't have any issues. IF you're running some... older hardware, then this might bite you. Here's the change that made this occur: http://files.sllabs.com/files/long-term/screenshots/kamikazi/vmware-broken-for-lubuntu-and-this-is-the-culprit-commit.jpg On march 16th, xserver-xorg-video-all was moved from Depends to Recommends in the xserver-xorg package. This bug happens to us for two reasons: One: lubuntu's seed specifies no-follow-recommends. Two: We do not have an explicit dependency on xserver-xorg-video-all. I propose that an explicit dependency is added in either lubuntu's seed, or in one of the metapackages, to follow suit with the rest of the crowd. They all have the packages installed, one way or another, and we are the odd-man-out. ubuntu-mate seems to have added their explicit dependency in the vivid cycle. edubuntu had the explicit dependency in utopic, so they never noticed. Xubuntu does not have no-follow-recommends, so they never noticed. The others (ubuntu+Unity, kubuntu, etc) are all primarily based on GL compositors these days, and simply barf on the simple 2D cards that most of these remaining packages support. Specifically: xserver-xorg-video-vmware xserver-xorg-video-vesa xserver-xorg-video-mga xserver-xorg-video-cirrus xserver-xorg-video-mach64 xserver-xorg-video-trident MGA is required to support the Matrox G200e-compatible VGA adapter found in Nuvoton and ASPEED baseboard management controllers on various supermicro X8 and X9 series motherboards. Mach64 is required to support some older supermicro X7-series on-motherboard VGA adapter. cirrus and trident are required for some emulation environments like qemu. Most of the pieces of actual hardware that these drivers were built for are no longer used; but they are old enough to be "the popular virtual devices to emulate". I am not sure if these drivers will ever be updated to support DRM or KMS, or even if it is worth it for them to be changed, with the progress on wayland+pixman. This comment is found in several of the seeds, and no longer seems to apply as of the march 16th commit to xserver-xorg. # this includes xserver-xorg->xserver-xorg-{input|video}-* (no need to add specific drivers manually) Here is my factual corroboration of the above set of opinions. [Bug 1443764] [NEW] Black screen of death: system suddenly stopped working soon after upgrade to kernel 3.16.0.34-generic
Public bug reported: I update the kernel images from update-manager this morning on my Ubuntu 14.10 system running on my laptop. I had started backintime-gnome to take a backup of my home directory on an external seagate drive connected to a 4 port USB hub. This is something I do almost daily I was editing a desktop shortcut on nano when suddenly I saw a black screen with a lot of dumps and messages from the kernel (or what seemed like the kernel). The screen was frozen - no mouse movement or keyboard movement would restore it. I had to force a restart using the power button. This is the first time I have encountered something like this. [Bug 1363589] Re: gnome-do help opens do.davebsd.com, redirects to spam site
** Description changed: + [Impact] + + The plugin Help buttons and Do's About link go to do.davebsd.com, which + has been acquired by a spam provider. + + This upload changes the About link to go to do.cooperteam.net (the + current homepage), and points the plugin Help buttons at Launchpad. + + [Test Case] + + Start gnome-do; type ‘about do’ and hit to summon the About + page. Click on the Homepage link, and verify that it goes to + do.cooperteam.net. + + Summon gnome-do, type ‘preferences’ and hit to summon the + preferences page. Go to the “Plugins” tab and select any plugin. Hit the + “About” button, if enabled. This should not take you to do.davebsd.com + (but might do nothing). + + [Regression Potential] + + This code is only used in the About page and plugin About links, so + that's what should be checked. Regressions are unlikely, the most likely + regression would be crashes when pressing the buttons. + + [Original report] + When clicking on 'help' in the gnome-do preferences, the link opened is "do.davebsd.com/wiki/index.php?title=Using_Do", it redirects several times, opening various spammy sites (gambling, shopping, etc). The real problem isn't gnome-do per se, but rather that do.davebsd.com seems to have been co-opted. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1363589 Title: gnome-do help opens do.davebsd.com, redirects to spam site To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/do/+bug/1363589/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 1312526] Re: lightdm fails to start session unless user selects session
Arvind, this is *not* the same bug. This bug is a problem with every lightdm greeter package except the gtk greeter failing to start a desktop session unless the user manually selects a desktop session. Perhaps you encountered this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/lightdm/+bug/971891 instead? Hopefully: Perhaps htmldevelopers suggestion will help you. Another thing you can try doing is replacing lightdm with another display manager like gdm or slim. If you boot in recovery-mode, select the fsck option, start networking, and drop to a console you can do: apt-get update apt-get install gdm and select gdm as your default display manager. It may not look pretty (though you can change the theme to improve that) but it may work better than lightdm.' But you should probably look for help in the wiki or forums instead of the bug tracker. Re: [Bug 1366661] Re: Xorg freeze
Hi Christopher, I have a desktop with a nvidia gtx 780ti and i don't have any problem with nvidia proprietary drivers, no NVIDIA HAS FALLEN. With my gtx 580m i have a lot of problem, but with nouveau drivers there is no problem. With gtx 580m, i tested with lastest kernel and nvidia drivers. KDE, GNOME, and no success. With WINDOWS the problem occurs too. Maybe it can be a hardware problem, but if it was nouveau driver would crash too. Thanks Luiz 2015-03-28 20:50 GMT-03:00 Christopher M. OK, that's fine with me. Kenton pointed out that there was integer overflow issue in 0.4.0. That's fixed in 0.4.2 and 0.5.2, but neither of these are available from upstream yet. [Bug 1277972] Re: Fullscreen in Gnome 3 does not work (workaround inside)
Hi Peter, I'm glad to hear it was of some help to someone. I really don't know Lua. I just threw that script together from what I could find in the devilspie2 manual and some online resources. The sleep idea I got from: http://lua-users.org/wiki/SleepFunction. It notes that Windows doesn't have a sleep function but I believe Linux does. I was hoping the function would call the Linux sleep command via os.execute. I really am not sure if it is actually doing that, but in the end the script seemed to work for me so I left it alone. I would be interested to hear if just calling the function twice works just as well. [Bug 669481] Re: Timeout should not be -1 if $recordfail
This bug was originally fixed on the basis that by adding GRUB_RECORDFAIL_TIMEOUT users could work around the issue. The fix worked as expected, but users are still hitting the issue without having tuned this value. I thought it would be easier to track a new issue about the default specifically in a separate bug, so I've created bug 1443735 to track the question of the default, rather than by re-opening this bug and confuse the status of the two separate fixes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/669481 Title: Timeout should not be -1 if $recordfail To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/669481/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1443735] [NEW] recordfail false positive causes headless servers to hang on boot
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce: 1. Boot a Vivid system installed from the server installer (not a cloud image). 2. Kill the power (or VM) while the kernel is initialising but before it has started init. 3. Power up the system (or start the VM) again. Expected behaviour: the system should boot without user intervention. Actual behaviour: the system hangs on the grub prompt. This was previously raised in bug 669481 but the solution applied then was just to add the GRUB_RECORDFAIL_TIMEOUT setting defaulted to -1. This allowed users to work around the problem by tuning GRUB_RECORDFAIL_TIMEOUT. I'm filing this bug separately as there is nothing wrong with the previous fix, but it didn't fix the problem for users by default. This bug is about fixing the default so that users don't have to discover and work around the issue. An IRC discussion (http://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2015/02/27/%23ubuntu- devel.html#t13:54) concluded that everyone involved in the discussion is happy to change the timeout from infinity to 30s. Colin asked for a fix in Debian, so I'll send a patch there and add a bug link. I'm also filing the bug here in order to track the fix in both Debian and Ubuntu. Importance: High because of the impact to users on headless servers - from their perspective, this causes a system to fail to boot after an appropriately timed double power cut. I'm prompted to do this today because it just happened to me on my server, so perhaps it's more likely than I originally thought. ** Affects: grub2 (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: Triaged ** Description changed: Steps to reproduce: 1. [Bug 1430082] Re: [MIR] python-cryptography, python-cffi, pycparser, enum34
I reviewed python-cryptography version 0.8-1ubuntu2 as checked into Ubuntu vivid. This shouldn't be considered a full security audit but rather a quick gauge of maintainability. - python-cryptography provides a cffi interface to OpenSSL with friendly shims for better python integration - Build-Depends: debhelper, dh-python, python-all-dev, python3-all-dev, python-setuptools, python3-setuptools, python-cffi, python3-cffi, python-six, python3-six, libssl-dev, python-cryptography-vectors, python-cryptography-vectors, python3-cryptography-vectors, python3-cryptography-vectors, python-iso8601, python3-iso8601, python-pytest, python3-pytest, python-pretend, python3-pretend, python-pyasn1, python3-pyasn1, python-enum34, python3-enum34 - This package provides both recipes for safe cryptography use as well as a hazmat namespace for raw cryptography use. This package does not itself daemonize or connect to the network. - pre/post inst/rm scripts automatically generated - No initscripts - No dbus services - No binaries in the path - No setuid or setgid - No sudo fragments - No udev rules - No cronjobs - Extensive test suite with thousands of test cases run during the build - Clean build logs - No subprocesses are spawned - Memory management is very complicated; Python modules implemented in C need to manage both the python-GC system and the C unmanaged memory allocations. There were instructive comments near some C implementations about the proper way to manage that object type's memory, but errors feel inevitable. - Very few file operations itself - Logging looked safe - No environment variable use on Linux, looked safe on Windows - No privileged portions of code - Extensive cryptography, much under control of client programs - No networking - No temporary file handling - No WebKit - No javascript - No PolicyKit python-cryptography is intricate, involved code; Python modules and cffi are complicated, and OpenSSL's API is dangerous at the best of times. That said, this code looks careful -- there's good parameter checking, asserts throughout, comments are descriptive where they are used, documentation is good. I did not extensively check the cryptography used; spot checks looked fine, Fernets looked interesting. Security team ACK for promoting python-cryptography to main. [Bug 1123716] Re: Can't find c++-annotations in Dash or Documents
I have decided this bug should be an easy fix. All that is needed is a desktop file with something akin to: Exec=x-www-browser file:///usr/share/doc/c++-annotations/html/index.html (based on what file type is installed ) Or a simple script that determines which one is installed and opens the correct one, or the html one if multiple are installed (for default). New (GNU) users are going to install this and possibly not know where or what was installed, especially if they are unfamiliar with the Linux file system hierarchy The other option (not a great one...) would be to make a postinst script that: ln -s $filename ${HOME}/Documents/$filename -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1123716 Title: Can't find c++-annotations in Dash or Documents To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/c++-annotations/+bug/1123716/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1443724] [NEW] mediatomb desktop file references non existant file

[Bug 1443723] [NEW] GNOME clock displays improper date format for US/EN locale
Public bug reported: I've actually noticed this for some time and decided to file a bug report in hopes of getting this fixed by 16.04 (or sooner). In the standard GNOME desktop (with US/EN locale set) the date in the clock displays day of week, day of month, month before the time rather than day of week, month, day of month - eg; Mon 13 Apr, 8:06 PM rather than Mon Apr 13, 8:06 PM. The proper format is used both in the screen-lock and the Date & Time settings dialog (see screenshot). This also effects the clock applet in gnome-panel as of Vivid, possibly it's now following g-s-d rather than u-s-d?
