[Bug 1443316] Re: Support for multi-touch is missing in the emulator

2015-04-13 Thread Rex Tsai
It's possible to use Android hardware emulation[1][2] for multi-touch
and sensors.

Steps
1) Install SdkController APK[3] on a android phone.
2) Connect the android phone with developer mode enabled to the computer which
will run the emulator via usb cable.
3) Run adb forward on computer to enable port forwarding
$ adb forward tcp:1970 localabstract:android.sdk.controller
4) Launch SdkController on the Androind Phone
5) Launch the emulator with multitouch emulation enabled.
add -screen multi-touch option for
/usr/share/android/emulator/out/host/linux-x86/bin/emulator-x86
or edit /home/chihchun/.local/share/ubuntu-emulator/*/hardware-qemu.ini
6) The user should be able to see the screen and issue touch event from the
android to the emulator.

[Bug 1443386] [NEW] Greyed-out nm-applet menu entries

2015-04-13 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

Hi,

For a few months now, I noticed a change in nm-applet applet's menus:
Now, if none of the pre-configured network are available, then the menu
entry for the corresponding entry is greyed-out. Unfortunately, the
whole kind of network (be it eth or wifi or both) the connection
belongs to is ALSO greyed-out or simply removed for the entries.

Put simply, this means that, if I'm not at a common place where a pre-
configured network is available (i.e. for which I had a change to
configure a network, prior to the nm-applet code modification), I simply
CANNOT open ANY dialog to diagnosed why I cannot connect AND/OR create a
configuration in order to connect... This feels identically useful as
the service providers that provide information on how to correct your
problem with access to yours emails, by sending you an email...

Who had this brilliant idea? Can anyone revert this behaviour to one
where it is ALWAYS possible to open a NetworkManager dialog, that allows
to diagnose/correct/create new network connections?

Thanks

GM

Well, the user switching can also apply to writing to user specific
bayes databases, even if that too can be solved in other ways.

Anyway, I'm not in any position to make any decisions here, I just
wanted to provide a bit of context while doing initial bug triage.

Hi costales,

Thanks for the bug report and the sample photo. Unfortunately by looking
at the picture I would guess that it is in fact the best you can do with
the BQ camera sensor. To be 100% sure the best would be to try to take
the same shot with Android on the same phone.

[Bug 1443364] [NEW] gpu-manager systemd unit doesn't always work as expected

2015-04-13 Thread Alberto Milone
Public bug reported:

This happened with today's 15.04 image. The gpu-manager unit started,
the xorg.conf was written, and so was the log but, somehow, even though
the log says that the system needs offloading, no /var/lib/ubuntu-
drivers-common/requires_offloading was created. This caused the system
to boot into a black screen.

Starting the same unit after (the failure to) boot, resulted in the
correct creation of /var/lib/ubuntu-drivers-common/requires_offloading
. There is probably something weird going on in the systemd unit, as
gpu-manager has never behaved like this with Upstart.

This breaks hybrid graphics.

[Bug 1442087] Re: don't run as root by default

2015-04-13 Thread Tim Kuijsten
This user switching is for reading per-user configurations only and I
think can be mitigated by making the per-user config world readable.

Furthermore from the README.spamd.gz you've mentioned If a fault is
found in spamd or spamassassin code, any third party linked-libraries or
imported perl modules there is the potential for abuse of both the
running uid of spamd, and the uid of the username supplied by spamc (and
this could be any user).

I'm not sure how many LOC but there is quite a slew of extra code with
all the plugins that ship with SA. I question if all this code is
maintained with the same attention and security awareness as other parts
of the mail stack. I know all other parts are not executed as root. Of
course statistics wouldn't have hurt ;-).

2015-04-13 Thread Martin Pitt
Ah, indeed /var/lib/dpkg/info/ubuntu-drivers-common.postinst has no unit
enablement code at all. I suspect the conditional code in debian/rules
which is supposed to call this stopped working:

# on architectures where we build gpu-manager, install the systemd unit
if [ -d debian/tmp/lib/systemd ]; then \
dh_systemd_enable; \
dh_install -p ubuntu-drivers-common lib/systemd; \
fi

indeed the build log shows:

Can't stat debian/nvidia-common: No such file or directory
 at /usr/bin/dh_systemd_enable line 180.
Can't stat debian/fglrx-pxpress: No such file or directory

Yes, thanks for the link and thoughts. I'm currently investigating if I
can leave all the SA, amavis and clamav code out of my setup by using
the blacklist feature of postscreen*.

[Bug 1443395] [NEW] Chromium crashes on start up when opening second profile

2015-04-13 Thread Will Cooke
Public bug reported:

I have two profiles set up in Cr. One for work, logged in with my
Canonical G. ID, and one for home.

In the mornings I start Cr and open the second profile from the top left
hand corner picker. A new window opens and then Cr stops responding and
goes grey. A few minutes later I get a force quit.

When retrying it usually works, but sometimes takes two or three goes.

I'm happy to believe this is related to extensions I might have
installed, but I've attached a BT just in case it's useful.

** Affects: chromium-browser (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1443271] Re: Abiword Dumps with Gdk Error

2015-04-13 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Elvis, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. However,
your crash report is manually attached. Please follow these instructions to
have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the
automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal:
cd /var/crash sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y upgrade
sudo service apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your
/var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash
report and a window pops up asking you to report this, but then never opens a
new report, you would be affected by
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to
WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line:
sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf

and comment out the line:
'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

by changing it to:
# 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via:
ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently.

Please feel free to subscribe me to this new report.

Also, please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and
reopen it.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1442609] Re: Guest session can't read /proc/net/dev and/or /proc/*/net/dev

2015-04-13 Thread Laércio de Sousa
Robert,

This is a sample of my /var/log/kern.log messages regarding xfce4
-netload-plugin attempts to read network traffic:

Apr 9 14:46:34 localhost kernel: [ 786.952187] audit: type=1400
audit(1428601594.953:805): apparmor=DENIED operation=open

name=/proc/23556/net/dev pid=23556 comm=panel-2-netload
requested_mask=r denied_mask=r fsuid=129 ouid=0

In the example above, PID 23556 belongs to command /usr/lib/x86_64
-linux-gnu/xfce4/panel/wrapper-1.0 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-
gnu/xfce4/panel/plugins/libnetload.so (...)

In my experiments with apparmor profile for lightdm-guest-session, I've
found that just granting read access to /proc/[0-9]*/net/dev is enough.

2015-04-13 Thread Michał Sawicz
Public bug reported:

I don't have an obvious example, but whenever a download requires

[Bug 1443349] [NEW] update-manager failes to show new updates

2015-04-13 Thread Paul Crawford
Public bug reported:

Today I found the update manager pestering me once again to restart the
system (stupid, since I already know about certain past updates and do
not want to do that just now). However, when I checked for anything new
using apt-get upgrade it was telling me about 7 more packages that the
GUI failed to detect:

$ sudo apt-get upgrade
[sudo] password for paul:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Calculating upgrade... Done
The following packages will be upgraded:
  gvfs gvfs-backends gvfs-bin gvfs-common gvfs-daemons gvfs-fuse gvfs-libs
7 to upgrade, 0 to newly install, 0 to remove and 0 not to upgrade.
Need to get 681 kB of archives.
After this operation, 28.7 kB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n]

So why did the GUI not inform me of this? Why is it prioritising a
restart that I ALREADY SAID NO TO instead of informing me of other,
potentially important, updates that the underlying manager has found?

It seems to me that the GUI update manager in 14.04 is a serious
retrograde step from the one in 12.04 and the behaviour priorities need
to be reassessed immediately:

1) If there are new updates, show them before prompting for any other actions
(e.g. pending restart).
2) If I cancel a restart, don't pester me with a focus-grabbing menu after a
few minutes and whenever something package-related happens (already listed as
bug #1293445). That is exactly the sort of thing the notification area was
suited to!

My system details:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS
Release:14.04

$ apt-cache policy update-manager

[Bug 1443345] [NEW] [Dell Insprion 3646] Double cursor appeared when rotating the display back to normal [8086:0f31]

2015-04-13 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Public bug reported:

When you rotate the display to any orientation other than normal, and
rotate back to normal, there will be two cursors.

The second cursor will be totally useless and it can't be captured with
the screenshot tool.

[Bug 1443364] Re: gpu-manager systemd unit doesn't always work as expected

2015-04-13 Thread Martin Pitt
The unit did not run at all during boot on your system, it appears the
unit isn't enabled. Do you actually have a /etc/systemd/system/display-
manager.service.wants/gpu-manager.service symlink?

It is enabled on my laptop, and ran fine (it didn't do anything of
course as I have a single intel card).

[Bug 1432194] Re: Graphics unstable on Ubuntu 14.04 and 14.10 using Intel HD Graphics 5500

2015-04-13 Thread John doe
I revert back to SNA since kernel 3.16.0-34 and liboxide updates (3 days
ago) on Ubuntu 14.04.2.

Chance or not, no prb occurs since theses updates: as the problem was
not so frequent I'll wait a few days before to say if it works because I
don't see any good reasons :)

If someone else could try to revert back to SNA afeter updates, it also
could be cool.

[Bug 1443364] Re: gpu-manager systemd unit is not enabled

2015-04-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package ubuntu-drivers-common - 1:0.4.5

---
ubuntu-drivers-common (1:0.4.5) vivid; urgency=medium

  * Call dh_systemd_enable after installing gpu-manager.service, so that the
unit actually gets enabled. Also quiesce the confusing error messages
about nonexisting binary package directories. (LP: #1443364)

[Bug 1388130] Re: Cannot connect to WiFi with Nvidia GPU using nvidia-331, SSD

2015-04-13 Thread hexinn12
** Description changed:

For some strange reason, we cannot connect to WiFi on hardware with a
descrete Nvidia GPU (using the nvidia-331 driver) when the system is
  running off a fast SSD.

Swap the SSD for a platter drive, and things work fine. Likewise, on
Intel GPU systems, with either an SSD or a platter drive, WiFi works
  fine.

  The failure message is:

  Connection activation failed.
  (1) Creation of object for path
'/org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/ActiveConnection/2' failed in libnm-glib

[Bug 1442593] Re: Click on nautilu's icons and open a new icons for Files

2015-04-13 Thread martincasc
No problem Sebastien. As I've said, the issue seems to be solved. Maybe
some outdated packages. Since my last coment (friday 10) the problem
it's solved. :)

I've installed 2 times the beta 2. And in both installations I could
reproduce the bug. But after the upgrade avrething works pretty fine.-

grep debug /boot/grub/grub.cfg
