[Bug 1449089] Re: Regression: compiz 1:0.9.11.3+14.04.20150313-0ubuntu1 segfaults on Radeon HD 7470/8470
After more research, this turns out to be a bizarre interaction of various things. The culprit is the intersection of this version of compiz and running older kernel versions. As soon as we updated to linux-image-3.13.0-49-generic, the problem went away. So I think it's still the case that something in the latest compiz update, at least on that one specific radeon card, is tickling a bug that was present at least as recently as 3.13.0-44, but went away some time between then and the current version. (I do see some radeon-specific notes in the changelog for the package, for the -45, -46, and -47 releases). (For unrelated reasons, a site-specific script to prune old kernel versions had the side effect, in Trusty, of removing linux-image- generic, due to changed dependencies between trusty and precise. As a result, machines didn't take kernel updates in a timely manner, which is why this bug got noticed, and the failure mode did coincide with the machines taking the latest compiz.) So feel free to close this, unless there's any further info you want. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1449089 Title: Regression: compiz 1:0.9.11.3+14.04.20150313-0ubuntu1 segfaults on Radeon HD 7470/8470 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/1449089/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1448247] Re: pkg-create-dbgsym creates -dbgsym packages with the source version, not the binary version
gcc built on all releases now, and spot-checking ddebs looks fine. E. g. https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-dev/+archive/ubuntu/ddeb- test/+build/7366154/+files/fixincludes- dbgsym_4.9.1-16ubuntu6pitti1_amd64.ddeb has Package: fixincludes-dbgsym Source: gcc-4.9 (4.9.1-16ubuntu6pitti1) Version: 1:4.9.1-16ubuntu6pitti1 Depends: libgcc1-dbg (= 1:4.9.1-16ubuntu6pitti1) and uploading went alright. The package is supposed to be empty as the debug symbols are already in libgcc1-dbg, which it depends on. The precise build https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-dev/+archive/ubuntu /ddeb-test/+build/7366150/+files/fixincludes- dbgsym_4.6.3-1ubuntu5pitti1_amd64.ddeb has Package: fixincludes-dbgsym Source: gcc-4.6 (4.6.3-1ubuntu5pitti1) Version: 1:4.6.3-1ubuntu5pitti1 Depends: fixincludes (= 1:4.6.3-1ubuntu5pitti1) which also is correct (epoch'ed, correct Source: version, upload went fine), and has debug symbols as in precise gcc-4.6 didn't yet build -dbg packages on its own. binutils and systemd also built everywhere, e. g. systemd on trusty has an epoch'ed gudev lib: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core- dev/+archive/ubuntu/ddeb- test/+files/libgudev-1.0-0-dbgsym_204-5ubuntu20_amd64.ddeb Package: libgudev-1.0-0-dbgsym Source: systemd (204-5ubuntu20) Version: 1:204-5ubuntu20 Depends: libgudev-1.0-0 (= 1:204-5ubuntu20) and contains debug symbols. [Bug 1425699] Re: kernel panic on IBM Power8 PPC MAAS ephemeral image
Added this to maas-images. From chats with Mike, I believe that the Vivid ephemerals are stable on Power8. I suspect that what's happening (I have not looked too deeply into this so this is just a guess for now) that the ephemerals are built at GA time, and after that point only the filesystem tarball is built for the point releases/daily images. So even at 14.04.2, you're installing 14.04.2 filesystem but using a 14.04.0 ephemeral to do so. Unfortunately, We can not use vivid ephemerals to certify Trusty, so we need a full stack of Trusty images for the power machines. This bug is currently gating PowerNV certification so I consider it a critical bug. ** Also affects: maas-images Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1425699 Title: kernel panic on IBM Power8 PPC MAAS ephemeral image To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/maas-images/+bug/1425699/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1447839] Re: Support dynamic mouse cursor icons
There are two distinct tasks involved on the Mir side: 1. Forward cursor requests from Unity8 clients to USC (in general, from nested clients to host servers). Support for this was recently added to lp:mir (r2515). 2. Enable Unity8 handle input in relation to windows, grab handles etc. Although this should be doable with what released versions of Mir currently offer, the new window management interface should make it more straightforward. The main blocker for this feature is (1), so I am going to marki this as 'fix commited' on the Mir side. ** Changed in: mir Status: New = Fix Committed ** Changed in: mir Assignee: (unassigned) = Robert Carr (robertcarr) ** Changed in: mir Milestone: None = 0.13.0 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1447839 Title: Support dynamic mouse cursor icons To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mir/+bug/1447839/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1449495] [NEW] Meld hangs (waiting for DBus?)
Public bug reported: Recently Meld has started hanging on launch for ten minutes or so before actually appearing. I don't know what it's hanging on. On one occasion it reported this after force quitting... GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus) ...on another occasion it reported... Failed to register: Timeout was reached ...and never loaded at all. Sometimes, once a window has launched it is unresponsive (greyed out in Compiz). Sometimes once it has launched, the window is usable, but the next window launched (as part of a workflow like git difftool -t meld -y . ) has the same delay before appearing. [Bug 1448917] Re: apt-get -o quiet=1 dist-upgrade isn't quiet anymore
Sorry if my previous comment came across as rude, it wasn't intended as such. It was just meant as a quick reply (I was in a hurry) to clear up what is the topic of this bug as incomplete reports aren't actionable. (An incomplete bug isn't necessarily the fault of the bugreporter as someone can hardly think of everything and/or an important fact to know for upstream isn't obvious to someone who isn't deeply involved with the package in question. So, no critic meant either.) So, with my apt upstream hat, I am reassigning to dpkg even through I know that this is caused by a change in apt, but the problem is that dpkg has a non-overrideable check for terminal output or not (and because as mentioned apt quiet option never influenced dpkg. Otherwise quiet=2 wouldn't have output at all, but what it does is in fact reduce the output to mostly just dpkg output). The apt change in question is that dpkg is properly called in (most) cases in a pseudo-terminal, so it's looking always like dpkg is running in a terminal. We need this in apt to be able to log the output (term.log) as well as show the output of dpkg (and subsequently programs called by it like debconf) correctly. See e.g. debbug #765687. The 1.0.9.x versions contain various fixes (and fixes of fixes) in this regard. You can tell apt to not use a pseudo-terminal for dpkg with -o Dpkg::Use-Pty=0 , but that carries all the disadvantages I mentioned earlier and more and is therefore not advised. ** Package changed: apt (Ubuntu) = dpkg (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1448917 Title: apt-get -o quiet=1 dist-upgrade isn't quiet anymore To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dpkg/+bug/1448917/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1449731] [NEW] Kate cannot edit files over ftp
Public bug reported: Since upgrading to 15.04 I cannot edit files accessed over ftp. The file appears to open but I end up with a blank file. This worked fine on earlier releases. Re: [Bug 1445611] Re: [vivid] lxc container with systemd fails to boot under libvirt-lxc
The container can be booted via lxc-start using the attached config. The container can also be booted using libvirt-lxc as long as it is configured to use /sbin/upstart as init. However, when configured to boot on /bin/systemd, it still fails as reported above. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? lxc-start (lxc) is using a mount hook to provide /sys/fs/cgroup/* mounts which systemd reuqires in order to boot. libvirt-lxc is not currently doing that. This is a known missing feature at the moment. [Bug 1408110] Re: [XPS13 9333, Realtek ALC3661, Speaker, Internal] fails after a while
Since upgrading to 15.04, I still experience inconsistent behaviour in the sound system. Sometimes, the system does not detect the speakers at all on boot-up. At other times, the Sound panel shows the HDMI sound in the Settings for Speakers section (although this can be corrected by clicking on the Speakers in the Play Sound Through box. Currently (under 15.04), plugging in headphones no longer brings up the dialogue box requesting to know what device was plugged into the headphone socket (Stereo Headphones, Headset with microphone or microphone alone). The Headphones appear in the Play Sound Through listing and disappear when the headphones are removed. The sound is directed from the speakers to the headphones if the latter are plugged in. However, now (under 15.04) it is possible to select the Speakers for the sound output even when the headphones are plugged in. This was certainly not the case under 14.10 where the headphones had priority as though the headphone socket was hard wired. I have just tried plugging a mono microphone in the headphone socket. This causes the headphones to appear in the Play Sound Through box. Unfortunately, the sound has now gone crackly and is not responding to a change of volume control keys. A reboot seems to be called for. When playing sound from a Video (using the Videos app), the sound can become crackly although it can be restored to normal by exercising the volume control keys (F11 F12) up and down. If this fails and the sound disappears altogether, it is necessary to reboot although this does not work every time and several reboots are required to restore the sound to normal. If I use the Volume Control app's Configuration tab to set the Built-in Audio option to Off, the Speakers in the Sound app show Settings for HDMI / DisplayPort Mode as Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output. By clicking on the Speakers in the Play Sound Through box, the Settings for Speakers are restored with the Test Sound button appearing. The Built-in Audio Profile changes from Off to Analogue Stereo Output. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1408110 Title: [XPS13 9333, Realtek ALC3661, Speaker, Internal] fails after a while To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1408110/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1316901] Re: Wrong screen rotation at login
I, too, have this problem. I'm running Linux Mint 17.1 which is based on *buntu 14.04. I have a ThinkPad X220-tablet. As I recall, I had a similar issue with earlier editions of Mint based on *buntu 12.04. {SOAPBOX} Now that tablets and 2-in-1 laptops are fashionable, this user would appreciate some attention paid to the various aspects of Thinkpad X60t, X61t, X200t, X201t, X220t, and later models. [Bug 1449794] [NEW] Week day and Date Month not working on menu bar on upgrade to 14.10
Public bug reported: I recently upgraded from 12.04 to 14.10 (had to first upgrade to a prior 14.?? version first), and then later on to 15.04 (see below). On the far right-side of the top bar of the graphical screen, I previously had displayed the date time, weekday, and date/month (without clicking on it and it displaying the full calendar). With the upgrade most of that is now gone and I can only see the time on the menu bar. If I go into System Settings -- Time Date -- Clock, I see that in the In the clock, show: grouping of properties Weekday and Date and month are unchecked. Towards the top the Show a clock in the menu bar is checked, and I also have 12-hour time checked. I want the Weekday and Date and month checked so that they will show on the menu bar, but when I check either or both of them, the clock goes away right then -- that is, it doesn't show the time that it was showing just moments ago, nor does it display anything about the date or time. As soon as I uncheck both Weekday and Date and month the time will show right back up, with no delay. I have updated/upgraded/reinstalled indicator-datetime, removed it and installed it again, dpkg-reconfigure the package, each time doing a killall unity-panel-service to restart the service, and even rebooted some times. Nothing seems to help -- If one of those 2 settings (or both) are checked all date/time settings go away on the menu bar. The above is for my regular login account. I created a Guest Session, of which it creates a temporary login in /tmp, and saw that it deleted it when I logged out of it. It did the same as my normal log ID did -- that is, only the time showed up on the menu bar, and when I went to clock settings and changed the Weekday / Date Month settings, the clock disappeared. I did a fresh install of ubuntu 14.10 on another machine after I did this upgrade. The fresh install was on a Win computer that I resized the Win partition on. It does the same thing as the upgrade I talked about above. I first posed the above as a question, and no one was able to help me, and they said I probably should report a bug, but I might want to wait until 15.04 was released and I upgraded. I have now upgraded to 15.04 on both of my computers, and they still do the same thing. I have encountered another problem with the Time Date Settings. I have my location set up as Chicago. I noticed that when you go into the Clock tab, you can set up additional Locations. I set up an additional location for UTC. Both of these times display when you click on the clock on the top menu bar and it pops up the Calendar. They display at the bottom. It works fine for most of the time. UTC is (now) 5 hours ahead of Chicago time. When Chicago time reads 18:59 UTC reads 23.59. Chicago clicks over to 19:00 and UTC clicks over to the next day, the UTC time then disappears. I take it that it disappears until Chicago time clicks over to the next day, so that Chicago and UTC are then on the same day again. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1449794 Title: Week day and Date Month not working on menu bar on upgrade to 14.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1449794/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1449794] Re: Week day and Date Month not working on menu bar on upgrade to 14.10
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1449794/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.
