[Bug 1451387] Re: Ubuntu UEFI install locks out UEFI firmware
aimwinm before testing the latest mainline kernel (now 4.1-rc2), you would need to perform the WORKAROUND of shorting the CMOS so that F2 and F12 are back. The expectation is when they are back, booting either the mainline kernel or default Ubuntu kernel does not cause the disappearance of F2/F12 (i.e. BIOS bug). If so, then this may still be pursued on the linux side of things for a code WORKAROUND, while such a BIOS bug is addressed by the vendor. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1451387 Title: Ubuntu UEFI install locks out UEFI firmware To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1451387/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1416186] Re: Periodically loss of backlight control
Jonathan Brier, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Where XY and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. ** Tags added: vivid ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Expired => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1416186 Title: Periodically loss of backlight control To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1416186/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1450989] Re: USB attached keyboard and mouse don't work at the login time to Ubuntu Trusty Tahr 64 bit
Dr. JD Wallach, the next step is to fully reverse commit bisect from kernel 3.13 to 4.1-rc2 in order to identify the last bad commit, followed immediately by the first good one. Once this commit has been identified, then it may be reviewed as a candidate for backporting into your release. Could you please do this following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#How_do_I_reverse_bisect_the_upstream_kernel.3F ? Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit bisecting. Thank you for your understanding. As per your instructions the linux-headers-4.1.0-040100rc2-generic_4.1.0-040100rc2.201505032335_amd64.deb linux-image-4.1.0-040100rc2-generic_4.1.0-040100rc2.201505032335_amd64.deb linux-headers-4.1.0-040100rc2_4.1.0-040100rc2.201505032335_all.deb were downloaded and installed in the Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit operating system that run inside the Dell 3847 computer.. At first the installation ended with errors, but after un-installing Oracle corporation’s Virtual Box and re installing the above kernel headers and image the installation ended successfully. When the computer was started from scratch and the advanced Grub menu was selected, it showed the newly installed kernel as a one of the possibilities for booting the computer. Once the newly installed kernel was selected for booting the computer, it was possible to login into the Ubuntu operating system as both the mouse and the keyboard were now operable. It should be said, however, that the resulting Ubuntu operating system environment was very unstable, but that was not the point of the test. So now what is next? ** Tags removed: trusty ** Tags added: kernel-fixed-upstreamtrusty ** Tags removed: kernel-fixed-upstreamtrusty ** Tags added: kernkernel-fixed-upstream-4.1.0-040100rc2el-fixed-upstreamtrusty -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1450989 Title: USB attached keyboard and mouse don't work at the login time to Ubuntu Trusty Tahr 64 bit To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1450989/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1453352] [NEW] Crash at login screen after upgrade to 15.04 when running 3.19.0-16-generic
Public bug reported: Running a Lenovo Yoga 11. Didn't have this problem on 14.10. The first time booting to the desktop after upgrading worked fine. After setting HandleLidSwitch=ignore in /etc/systemd/logind.conf and IgnoreLid=true in /etc/UPower/UPower.conf and rebooting, as soon as I get back to the login prompt the laptop shuts off after .5 seconds or so. If I manually boot using 3.16.0-37-generic instead of 3.19.0-16-generic, the laptop starts without any problem. I tried reverting the two changes mentioned above and rebooting, but I still get the crash after the changes are reverted and I try to boot with 3.19.0-16. I see binary data in syslog just after 00:57:14 on 9 May 2015 which is around the time I was trying to get the system to boot properly. [Bug 1451387] Re: Ubuntu UEFI install locks out UEFI firmware
Christopher 1st question So what we hope, so call bug fixed is " after installation of the upstream Kernel and reboot", >>>the F2 and F12 will be available to user immediately,< 2nd question. Do you know which software is responsible for UEFI installation part? I suspect if the problems of fastboot was turned on or Bios hacked or whatever to effect the F2 and F12 boot menu fuction, we should try that installation software. Sorry I don't have the knowledge of The kernel UEFI, if The access of the Bios is part of the Kernel.? But I saw grub was installed in the "Bios" EEPROM or some kind of memory on board for UEFI boot soft ware. Since I remove Hard Disk and found Grub menu instead of the Bios. And the F2 and F12 are not there any longer. So please help identify the software that modify the UEFI-Grub as well. the issue may lie there. [Bug 1069915] Re: unable to mount CIFS share with comma in password
There's so many different ways to get the password in the mount.cifs.c sources that I wouldn't be surprised if one path works fine while another path fails this way. For those who can test this, it would be nice to test mount -t cifs vs calling mount.cifs directly, and it'd be worth testing the PASSWD environment variable, the PASSWD_FD environment variable, the PASSWD_FILE environment variable, the --pass and --password and -p command line options, the systemd-ask-password prompt, the getpass() password prompt, the credentials file. The kernel sources also appears to log unknown options only if "sloppy" isn't being used: if (!sloppy && invalid) { pr_err("CIFS: Unknown mount option \"%s\"\n", invalid); goto cifs_parse_mount_err; } so be sure to test with and without sloppy to make sure you're testing the right thing. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and improve Ubuntu. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. The file you reference, ~/.config/pcmanfm/LXDE/pcmanfm.conf, no longer exists in an untouched installation of vivid with pcmanfm 1.2.3-1.1.
