I agree, I even think such a function (save items view) was very
helpful, as it adds to the flexibility of the file manager. Maybe create
a separate report card with a request to add this feature in Nautilus?

[Bug 1466245] Re: Update to 3.16

2015-06-18 Thread Tim
Hey Robert,
Thanks for working on this, yes we want g-c-c and in fact most other core
bits updated to 3.16 asap. I think we will try land it all in one hit like we
did last cycle, hopefully in the next week we can have all the merges ready.

btw pretty sure I updated 52_region_langugage in the package in
gnome3-staging ppa (possibly in vivid, not sure they have been copied to
wiley yet.)

[Bug 1466367] [NEW] Installer ask where to install boot loader during uefi installation

2015-06-18 Thread Michiel
Public bug reported:

During UEFI boot install of 14.04.2 (from ~2015-6-16) the installer asks for a
location to install a boot loader. But according to
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI it shouldn't. I'm sure i'm booting in
uefi. I tried the uefi only image and normal way of creating the usb install
drive.
I have legacy boot disabled and created a new uefi boot entry pointing to the
boot.efi on the usb drive.
During boot i see the black screen giving me the choice what to do (install,
try, check).
I already have Debian 8 installed in uefi mode (no problems) and thus have an
ESP.
I can select the partition for / but cant set the mount point for the ESP. I
don't want to risk installing grub to mbr by asking for a place fot the boot
loader so i stop installing Ubuntu from that point.

It is a new mSata disk. On an other non ssd disk i have w8 and Ubuntu
14.04.2 installed, but when that disk is removed the situation is the
same. Because of previous installations (on non ssd) there is an uefi
entry (ubuntu) visible during boot.

How can i safely and certain install Ubuntu in UEFI mode without
installing something/grub in MBR?

[Bug 1459643] Re: Automatically update time does not work on mobile network

2015-06-18 Thread Sam Bull
Tried it this morning, and it does. But, because I use WiFi so
infrequently, I have gone months thinking that this was not working at
all.

** Description changed:

Upon another crash which caused my phone to set the time back to 1970, I
selected the update automatically option and nothing happened, the time
remained in 1970. I then set the time manually, but deliberately set it
several minutes ahead before setting it back to automatically, so I
could test if it would set the time later on. After several weeks, the
time is still several minutes ahead, so clearly hasn't been updated.
+
+ Update: The sync occurs when connecting to WiFi, but because I use WiFi
+ so infrequently, I have gone several months without it syncing, thinking
+ that this was broken.

[Bug 1465675] Re: API needed to determine if App ID is a scope

2015-06-18 Thread Michi Henning
I have two concerns:

- Just looking whether a file is installed somewhere isn't going to
work. That's because the installation locations aren't fixed. For
example, it's possible to run multiple scopes run times side-by-side on
the same machine without having them interfere with each other, by
changing configuration files. Among other things, tests and the SDK
rely on being able to change configurations. But, to figure out what the
current configuration is requires a fair bit of heavy lifting in terms
of parsing configuration files and the like.

Now, we sure can do this. But, to do it right, we'll have to spin up a
client-side run time. This isn't all that cheap (about 35 ms on a Nexus
4). So, doing this would be worth it only if you could keep that run
time around for multiple queries. Spinning up and shutting down a
separate run time instance just to answer a single question is simply
too expensive.

- I'm reluctant to add knowledge about how things are packaged into the
scopes run time with, really, has no business knowing about such things.
Could you look through the click manifests somehow instead to figure
this out? Seeing that click knows everything about packaging already,
that would seem cleaner?

[Bug 1376764] Re: on-screen keyboard requires expert knowledge to launch in 14.10 Final Beta

2015-06-18 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Hi,
I found this problem also occurs on Trusty. No effects when enabling On Screen
Keyboard in Universal Access panel which is in unity-control-center.

Although comment #6 mentioned that it works in Trusty, but I found that
the org.gnome.Shell actually exits in dbus..

I tried applying the patch (revno:1818 in trunk), and it can fix the
problem.

[Bug 1465685] Re: OTA4 SMS function now fails

Since choosing one of the duplicate carrier entries manually, I have had
no further problems with SMS.

So, assigning settings automatically when there is a duplicate carrier
entry causes random failure. Solution - assign the settings manually by
selecting the carrier from the list in Settings.

[Bug 1465566] Re: Needs a refresh button, and address bar keeps disappearing

2015-06-18 Thread Kavoura
I am running it on the BQ Aquarius E4.5 with all latest updates. I don't know
the browser version, where would I find that? It's not listed in Ubuntu Store
(or else hard to find there).
There should be an option in Settings to have address bar stay visible at all
times. I know it works on other browsers on other OSes the same way, where it
hides, and it is really annoying there as well. Just because Google does it a
certain way does not mean that Ubuntu has to copy them. Ubuntu should be
different and an OS that does things better and with more user customisability,
it is open source.
As for the refresh button, hiding it behind the favicon is bad design. It
should be visible easily -- maybe add it to the drop down menu, or have a swipe
that refreshes as in other apps -- swiping down from near the top of the web
page. I am surprised that was not implemented.

[Bug 1316035] Re: matrox g200eR2 is unclaimed in 14.04

2015-06-18 Thread Celsius
Same problem here on a certified PowerEdge r820 with Ubuntu server
14.04.2, no GUI installed, only CLI.

The framerate is very slow, using commands like 'ls' or 'less' is almost
painful. Adding vesa or mga drivers didn't change a thing. I cannot put
a personalized xorg.conf since xorg-server is not even installed.

I found two separate workarounds (not fixes) to this:

1. install openssh server and log into the server from another machine.
Everything works fine, fast and responsive.
2. modify /etc/default/grub to reduce the resolution of CLI by editing the line
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT= into GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=splash
vga=1024x768x24. Then run sudo update-grub and reboot. CLI is now low
resolution but fast and responsive.

I didn't try with higher resolution yet. I think I'll settle for using
SSH anyway.

Note that if you apply solution 1 and 2 above, you get the best of both:
you can still log with SSH with high resolution (full HD here) *and*
have a responsive low-resolution local terminal on site.

[Bug 1423631] Re: tap interface drops many packets on highload systems

2015-06-18 Thread Michael Kazakov
I found the cause of the problem.
The tap interface of a instance has small tx length 500 packets. At a high
network load (15-25 Kpps) and high CPU load on a guest some times queue
overflows and the tap interface start drop network packages. I think that queue
overflow occurs in moments of micro friezes (1000ms) of a virtual machine. I
solved this problem by increasing the tx_queue up to 1.

[Bug 1466401] [NEW] Cannot remove keyboard from screen

2015-06-18 Thread Kavoura
Public bug reported:

When typing info into a text box and pressing Enter, sometimes the
keyboard remains, e.g. on some websites, and it blocks the page
underneath. There should be a key on the keyboard that hides the
keyboard as on other mobile OSes. Sometimes clicking out of the text box
makes the keyboard go away, but sometimes not.

** Affects: ubuntu-keyboard (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1427877] Re: Media, brightness and volume keys don't work with GNOME 3.15.90

2015-06-18 Thread Ubuntu GNOME
Anders, thanks for the patch, I'll upload it even though we should get
g-s-d/g-c-c updated in the next week or so.

However just to note that issue is not the same as this bug, which is
related to media keys stop working after suspend of VT switch, that
itself seems to be caused by g-s-d 3.16, but havent yet tracked down the
cause.

After some IRC discusison with mbiebl from debian and pochu:

some package install the docs in /usr/share/doc/$pkg/ and symlink it to

applies it's compression, the installation creates symlinks so that the
docs are found by gtk-doc. Some packages have exception rules to deal

calls, and are easier to address with evangelism, than sites that
reasonably promote Android apps to a browser that claims to be running
on Android. And that evangelizing sites to Send your mobile version to
any browser with 'Mobi' in its UA string helps not just Firefox but
every other mobile browser (for example, Ubuntu's).

If bug 1466427 has not been fixed by the time this bug is resolved, it
may save time to fix them together.

[Bug 1466439] [NEW] Ark fails to extract properly a zip file containing files with read only permission together with a sticky bit

2015-06-18 Thread Prasad Murthy
Public bug reported:

The Android application Airdroid packs multiple files in a zip file when
importing from a android device. This downloaded zip file when extracted
yields to empty files, the same zip file when extracted with other
archive managers( I tested with peazip and the command line utility
unzip) produces the files contained in the zip correctly. On initial
analysis I found the file permissions of the files in the zip having
read only permissions and with sticky bit.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Download multiple files from your android device using Airdroid app
2. Extract the downloaded zip file using ark
3. Check the file size of the extracted files with that of the expected ones

Actual Results:
Ark extracts files that are empty instead of extracting the zip correctly

Expected Results:
When the zip file with multiple files download with the android app Airdroid is
extracted it should produce the files contained in the zip correctly.

Two of the lines I found interesting in the debug logs are below

Kerfuffle::Archive::create: Loading plugin kerfuffle_libarchive
ark(6055) Kerfuffle::ReadOnlyArchiveInterface::ReadOnlyArchiveInterface:

Already reported this bug upstream, but it was resolved as downstream.
