[Bug 1488352] [NEW] nvidia-346 prime alternatives not set up properly

2015-08-24 Thread Fabio
Public bug reported:

I just installed the nvidia-346 drivers with all its dependencies. I then
rebooted twice (the very first reboot started to load the system and went back
to grub, so I removed the 'quiet' string from the loader to check what
happened, I noted that some nouveau libraries were loaded, is it normal?). When
trying to use prime-select query it says unknown, and if I try any between
intel and nvidia it says that:
Error: alternatives are not set up properly
Error: intel mode can't be enabled

[Bug 1488341] [NEW] MIR: libmicrohttpd

2015-08-24 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug reported:

Availability: builds on all architectures

Rationale:
 - Used by systemd's remote journal support; we'd like to enable this as it
provides nice and secure (over SSL) logging for devices without much space, or
writable root etc. Users are asking for it (bug 1480952) and it's also a nice
feature for snappy.
 - Enablement done in Debian:
http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-systemd/systemd.git/commit/?id=52758fa

Security: no issues in the past (http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-
bin/cvekey.cgi?keyword=microhttp)

QA/maintenance:
 - Just a library, no user interface; no debconf,
 - No serious, and very few bug reports in Debian/Ubuntu
 - Standard dh7/dh_install packaging, no oddities
 - Adequate package maintenance in Debian, no Ubuntu delta planned
 - Adequate upstream maintenance: Search for "microhttp" on
https://gnunet.org/bugs/view_all_bug_page.php → bugs get fixed and responded to
 - Package has watch file
 - /!\ Package has some automatic tests, and some example C programs for manual
testing; not enabled during package build

Dependencies: all build/binary deps already in main

Note that at least for now we don't necessarily need to put the new
systemd-journal-remote binary package into main; but we need the -dev as
a build dependency, thus libmicrohttpd-dev needs to be in main for this.

** Affects: libmicrohttpd (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1385568] Re: openvpn submenu of network-manager unresponsive

2015-08-24 Thread tallien
I am on 14.04.3 LTS and have probably had this bug for about at least a
year now, based on when the "Edit Connections" panel says my VPN
connections were last used. I can't remember now when it started for me,
but it was probably around the time I upgraded to 14.04.

In my case my connections are using VPNC rather than OpenVPN, but the
rest of the issue seems similar.

My VPN Connections submenu is not greyed out, but clicking produces no
effect. All other options on the applet menu work when clicked except
for the VPN submenu.

I only just now discovered today that I could actually still get connect
to a VPN using the buttons under System/Network. Prior to now I have
been surviving by using sudo vpnc connect from the terminal.

So far, nothing I have tried has made the submenu responsive, including
reinstalling network manager and all the plugins I could find in
Synaptic.

[Bug 1488327] [NEW] Indicator bar animation latency is artificially high

2015-08-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Public bug reported:

The indicator bar animation latency seems to be artificially high --
limited to a fixed speed that it uses when you release it.

I suggest it should be designed to move more quickly while you're
touching it. Because in a low latency experiment today I've found I can
make the dash more responsive than the shell's indicator pulldown:

1. Install devel-proposed (wily) which now has Mir 0.15 and its lower latency.
2. Lower latency further with these experimental options:
restart unity8 QML_NO_TOUCH_COMPRESSION=1 MIR_SERVER_NBUFFERS=2

You may have to use mako to ensure it's got the power to keep up...

Result: Dash scrolling is now faster and more responsive than the
indicator pulldown. The dash tracks your finger but the indicator
pulldown seems to have it's own max speed, which is slower.

[Bug 1476201] Re: Dynamic double buffering fails to detect inertial dash scrolling as slow; and stutters instead of scaling up to triple buffers.

2015-08-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I now also realize the bug isn't really about dynamic queue scaling either. The
same issue happens with fixed double buffering:
   restart unity8 QML_NO_TOUCH_COMPRESSION=1 MIR_SERVER_NBUFFERS=2

The core of the problem is probably that the kernel scaling/frequency
governors clock down when not touching the screen, which is too slow for
double buffers. However if you're still touching the screen then it
remains fast enough for double buffers.

[Bug 219057] Re: Bluetooth does not coexist with WiFi

2015-08-24 Thread Kevin Perez
I can confirm that this bug in also present in Linux Mint 17.2 (based
upon Ubuntu 14.04) as early as August 25th 2015. I can also confirm that
the previous workaround worked works like a charm. Seems that the weird
behavior is somewhat related to the Centrino wireless adapter...

Thanks, Julian Alarcon (alarconj), sir. Thank you for share that
workaround with us.

[Bug 1488077] Re: Have the optional ability to have a screensaver

2015-08-24 Thread Tim
We don't install gnome-screensaver since it is not used under gnome-
shell, in fact the lock screen is an integration between gnome-
shell/gdm. using gnome-screensaver or xscreensaver is likely to break
that.

Adding a screensaver to gnome-shell and a panel to configure it would be
a pretty big task, far too large to carry as a Distro patch. So would
have to be something upstream agreed on (I'm not sure what their take on
screensavers is though)

Short of that the closest you could probably get, is to create an
animated background and set the for the lockscreen and disable dpms

[Bug 1177394] Re: USB sequence errors in snd_usb_usx2y

2015-08-24 Thread Jon-o Addleman
I'm reopening this old bug report, because it's still not really fixed,
even in the most recent kernels, and I've finally had a chance to do
some more debugging. Here's what I found, after doing some git bisects
and compiling a whole lot of kernels:

This is the first commit causing the problem: kernels after this point
exhibit the "sequence errors" messages in the log.

commit c44b225077bb1fb25ed5cd5c4f226897b91bedd4
Author: Alan Stern
Date: Mon Oct 1 10:32:09 2012 -0400

UHCI: implement new semantics for URB_ISO_ASAP

Later on, more usb changes occured around commit
bef073b067a7b1874a6b381e0035bb0516d71a77, right before v3.12-rc3 - after this
point, the messages no longer appear in the log, but instead, there's a kernel
panic when I use the Tascam - sometimes it works for a while, and sometimes it
crashes right away. This is true for kernels well into this year (though I
haven't tested the most recent ones, it doesn't look like this USB code has
been touched since 2013).

I hope this is useful for further debugging - as things stand, I have to
boot up a 3-year-old kernel to use the device!

[Bug 1467542] Re: Add new userspace package 'opal-prd'

2015-08-24 Thread Jeremy Kerr
Hi Frédéric,

The upgrade gives us Firestone platform support, and will mean we'll be
using code that has gone through IBM's own testing procedures.

Including 5.1.1 would mean fewer changes - there's no package in any
Ubuntu release yet, so there should be no trouble starting from this
version, and it means that we don't need an update for Firestone
support.

With the release of gcc 5.1, libstdc++ has started using the abi_tag
attribute.

The attribute is documented here:
https://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc/C_002b_002b-Attributes.html

Its use in libstdc++ and effects on ABI compatibility between gcc and clang are
pointed out here:
https://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-patches/2015-04/msg00153.html

It would be great if clang could support the abi_tag attribute and
remain abi compatible with gcc.

If I understand the problem, even old GCCs will have such compatibility
issues.

So, what GCC 5 is leading to, is a system that no other compiler can
coexist without supporting abi_tags. This is bad not just for Clang, but
for anyone experimenting with GCC 5 on a system based on 4.x, or
reverting the compiler to work around 5.0 bugs.

If GCC 5 cannot work alongside compilers that don't support abi_tag,
than maybe the abi_tag implementation needs to be reviewed, and
rewritten so that they do.

I've added a few people to the bug, as this looks like a watershed

hoping that Clang folks are already aware of the changes in libstdc++

I'd also like to make sure we don't move away from libstdc++ just
because of that. We need to support all mainstream C++ libraries.

[Bug 1308264] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 Beta 2 stuck at "Switched to clocksource tsc" when booting up, then resumes booting to the login screen, after 1 minute

2015-08-24 Thread bisher bas
My custom build computer boots perfectly via ELILO EFI bootloader. But I
connected a second SSD (Samsung 256GB) to my PC and I am experiencing
the same boot problem. Hangs at:

[2.399020] Switched to clocksource tsc

Kernel parameters that are being passed:

"reboot=a,w"

Any workarounds? Thanks.

[Bug 1479913] Re: SRU request: fglrx.ko fails because of backported GPL-only 'pci_ignore_hotplug' symbol

2015-08-24 Thread Rich.T.
This bug has caused a situation whereby I will probably have to
reinstall Ubuntu in order to get the up-to date kernel running on my
hardware.

See comments 38, 42, 51 and 53 for details.

I filed another bug report to describe my particular situation:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1486673

This new bug report has not been dealt with, but I have marked it as
fixed, as it seems to be a vanishingly rare occurrence (only one other
user reported anything similar) and the root cause has been dealt with
here.

I include this information here however, for the record.

Thanks,
Rich

[Bug 1454473] Re: In Ubuntu 15.04, simply moving the mouse via touchpad scrolls the window

2015-08-24 Thread Zethan S
YO! As a temporary automated fix, you can add the command:

xinput set-prop "DLL0665:01 06CB:76AD UNKNOWN" --type=int --format=8
"Device Enabled" && xinput set-prop "DLL0665:01 06CB:76AD UNKNOWN"
--type=int --format=8 "Device Enabled" 1

To the startup applications app in Ubuntu.

Thanx, Achilleas.

[Bug 627195]

2015-08-24 Thread Fdo-bugs
So... this has been sitting in my inbox for a *long* time, sorry.

I think a better approach would be to suggest clients make direct use of
the desktop entry spec, rather than duplicating the methods here. We
already have a property to direct clients to the desktop file for the
media player, so they can check that desktop file for whether it can be
activated, and call the org.freedesktop.Application Activate() method.

[Bug 627195]

2015-08-24 Thread Lars Uebernickel
Created attachment 88321
Add org.mpris.MediaPlayer2.Activate

Alex, the desktop entry spec recently gained support for
org.freedesktop.Application, which has a method Activate() that takes a
platform data. I think it makes sense to reuse this terminology and the
platform-data convention.

The attached patch deprecates Raise() and CanRaise in favor of
Activate() and CanActivate.
