[Bug 1492582] Re: bug
laya fox, thank you for taking the time to report this and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, this report didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. The behavior you expected, and 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Bug 918019] Re: Firefox does not use default application to open binary files
Thanks Martinique. That sounds promising, so I've made the same tweaks myself. I won't know in the short term if they have been successful, because I stopped using Firefox as my default browser more than a year ago for this and a couple of other reasons. Google Chromium is the default now. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/918019 Title: Firefox does not use default application to open binary files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/918019/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1495357] Re: install amd driver from amd website failed
Hung Minh Tran, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make Ubuntu better. However, the AMD driver downloaded directly from AMD's website is not a software package provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. Because of this the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug. Please report this bug to the provider of the software package. Thanks! [Bug 1497613] Re: cannot set default printer
Please follow the instructions on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems especially of the section "CUPS error_log". With debug logging activated do the sudo lpadmin -d HP-Officejet-Pro-8600-2 again and attach your error_log file to this bug afterwards. In general, you do not need to use the "sudo" command when you are in a root shell ("#" at the end of the prompt instead of "$"). For "lpadmin" and other printing-related commands you do not need "sudo" when you are an admin user (usually the first user created during system installation). ** Changed in: cups (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1497613 Title: cannot set default printer To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/1497613/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It happens every time I plug my iPad Mini 3 to the USB; it gets worst if the system boots with the iPad already plugged ("System problem detected" will show up as soon as I'm logged in, my screen resolution will be wrong, then goes right, and the text is rendered differently, as if missing antialias or using a different font) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1305699 Title: upowerd crashed with SIGSEGV in service_client_free() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upower/+bug/1305699/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1471477] Re: Xorg crash
leex, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal: cd /var/crash && sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade && sudo service apport start force_start=1 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now reproduce the crash, then open a terminal, navigate to your /var/crash directory and file your report with: sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. By default, this sends the crash to the Ubuntu Error Tracker infrastructure, which is different than Launchpad. For more on this, please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ErrorTracker . However, if after doing this you would still like to have a crash report posted to Launchpad, for example to ease triage and add others to your report, one would need to open the following file via a terminal: sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf and comment out the line: 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], by changing it to: # 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via: sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash I'm closing this report since the process outlined above will deal with this issue more efficiently. Also, please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and reopen it. Thank you for your understanding. [Bug 1489476] Re: Feature request - To have an option not to share Firefox health report with Mozilla (but still generate it for the user to see)
** Description changed: It would be nice if like in the Windows and Mac version in Firefox, for - the Linux version of Firefox to also have the ability for you to select - that you don't want to send the Firefox health report to Mozilla, but - you still want to have it generated for you to see. + the Linux version of Firefox to also have the option in the normal + about:preferences to turn off data sharing of the Firefox Health Report, + as you can do this in about:healthreport, but it is not very obvious + there so it would be nice if there was an option here too: + about:preferences#advanced + + Another thing on this matter is that when you disable data sharing in + about:healthreport, the tick box in about:preferences#advanced becomes + unticked, but as the tick box is meant to enable and disable both data + sharing and the actual generation of the report, it is misleading to + have it unticked, instead there should be a separate tick box there for + this option. It also means that one can think that their report + generation is not on, but in fact the data sharing has just been + disabled there. This also means that when one disables data sharing + there, they have no way to disable the entire report generation thing + because the box in the normal area become unticked. ** Summary changed: - Feature request - To have an option not to share Firefox health report with Mozilla (but still generate it for the user to see) + Firefox should have separate tick box for disabling of data sharing of the Firefox Health Report in the normal preferences area -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1489476 Title: Firefox should have separate tick box for disabling of data sharing of the Firefox Health Report in the normal preferences area To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1489476/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1497621] [NEW] Unity display corrupted on login or switch user
Public bug reported: I have a new install of 15.04. I am using lightdm with a unity desktop (default). I have two users on my system. Often when I log in or switch user unity or lightdm (I don't know enough to understand which one) will freeze on a corrupted display. The launcher icons and the launcher will be overwritten with some pseudo-random pattern. the bar across the top of the display will also be corrupted. Sometimes the display has both my desktop and the unity-login greeter mixed. I usually can't type or do alt-f2 for several seconds. At some point (usually several seconds later) the display will appear to "reset," sometimes once, sometimes several times and eventually will settle on an uncorrupted, usable screen. [Bug 1490229] Re: Brightness set to maximum after DPMS standby
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected has-fix has-workaround kubuntu reproducible single-occurrence ** Description changed: After configuring screen energy saving in KDE, I noticed that after DPMS standby, my screen brightness is set to maximum. This is confirmed by `cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness`. The problem can be easily reproduce by switching to standby manually using `xset dpms force standby`. Steps to reproduce: 1) echo "300" | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness 2) cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness This will report: 300 3) xset dpms force standby 4) Move mouse/press key 5) cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness This will report 937 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.10 Package: xorg 1:7.7+7ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.1.0-3.3-generic 4.1.3 Uname: Linux 4.1.0-3-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.18-0ubuntu7 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: KDE Date: Sat Aug 29 21:26:27 2015 InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-08-10 (20 days ago) InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 15.10 "Wily Werewolf" - Alpha amd64 (20150809) ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm-256color PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: xorg UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + --- + ApportVersion: 2.18.1-0ubuntu1 + Architecture: amd64 + BootLog: enabled, not active + CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' + CompositorRunning: None + CurrentDesktop: KDE + DistUpgraded: Fresh install + DistroCodename: wily + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.10 + DistroVariant: kubuntu + DkmsStatus: + virtualbox, 5.0.4, 4.2.0-10-generic, x86_64: installed + virtualbox, 5.0.4, 4.2.0-7-generic, x86_64: installed + ExtraDebuggingInterest: No + GraphicsCard: + Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0a2e] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) +Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. [Bug 1497627] [NEW] Periodically video will freeze for no reason at all and no specific time between freezes.
Public bug reported: This has been going on for over a year. It doesn't matter if I have any applications open such as Evolution or Firefox. It could happen any time during the day when I'm working on the computer or during the night when its' the most idle. Once the video freezes the cursor can still be moved around the desktop however clicking on anything does not work. During this time all background process and cronjobs continue to run. Running the command listed below: chris@localhost:~$ cat /proc/version_signature > version.log cat: /proc/version_signature: No such file or directory Of course what I expect to happen is the video to not freeze every so often. [Bug 1497627] Re: Periodically video will freeze for no reason at all and no specific time between freezes.
An additional note. Based on a bug that I have been supplying information to https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75394 because initially there would be an error noted in my syslog "[drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... render ring idle". This error has since stopped being entered into my syslog. The reason that I'm running a non-Ubuntu kernel but instead the most current stable drm-intel kernel from here http://kernel.ubuntu.com /~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-next/ is that I posted a message about this issue in the Intel-GFX mailing list and was contacted by Chris Wilson, Intel Open Source Technology Centre who had me update to kernel 4.0.0-997-generic. I also updated the driver per his instructions which can be seen in the attached Xorg.0.log. I have also filed a bug report about this previously - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1402331 A bug report that I personally filed at freedesktop.org - https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=91495 can also be referenced for more information. When the freeze happens I'm able to SSH into the desktop from my tablet. I've run some GDB back traces on Gnome- Shell. The one from a freeze in August is attached. The latest freeze was on 10 Sept at 5:03am after a runtime of 16d9h12m. The system was fairly idle at this time as there were no applications running using video such as Firefox or Evolution just background apps. ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #75394 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75394 ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #91495 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=91495 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1497627 Title: Periodically video will freeze for no reason at all and no specific time between freezes. [Bug 1480590] Re: Minecraft + Oracle Java + maximized always crashes with SIGSEGV (ubuntu 14.04, java 7.0_80-b15, minecraft 1.7.10)
Martin, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. A crash in Java has nothing to do with xorg. Regarding Oracle Java, please follow the instructions as per the crash report to report to Oracle directly Regarding icedtea, your crash report is missing. Eric Layton, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_X58/HelpDesk_Download/ an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (1402). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New. [Bug 1491641] Re: No material acceleration
Ulldemolins, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://www.asus.com/supportonly/K8N/HelpDesk_Download/ an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (1011). Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-1011 ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1491641 Title: No material acceleration To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1491641/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
