[Bug 1492582] Re: bug

2015-09-19 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
laya fox, thank you for taking the time to report this and helping to
make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, this report didn't include enough
information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would
then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. The behavior you expected, and
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 918019] Re: Firefox does not use default application to open binary files

2015-09-19 Thread el_gallo_azul
Thanks Martinique. That sounds promising, so I've made the same tweaks
myself.

I won't know in the short term if they have been successful, because I
stopped using Firefox as my default browser more than a year ago for
this and a couple of other reasons. Google Chromium is the default now.

[Bug 1495357] Re: install amd driver from amd website failed

2015-09-19 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Hung Minh Tran, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and
trying to help make Ubuntu better. However, the AMD driver downloaded
directly from AMD's website is not a software package provided by the
official Ubuntu repositories. Because of this the Ubuntu project can not
support or fix your particular bug. Please report this bug to the
provider of the software package. Thanks!

If you are interested in learning more about software repositories and
Ubuntu, check https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories

[Bug 1497613] Re: cannot set default printer

2015-09-19 Thread Till Kamppeter
Please follow the instructions on

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems

especially of the section "CUPS error_log". With debug logging activated
do the

sudo lpadmin -d HP-Officejet-Pro-8600-2

again and attach your error_log file to this bug afterwards.

In general, you do not need to use the "sudo" command when you are in a
root shell ("#" at the end of the prompt instead of "$"). For "lpadmin"
and other printing-related commands you do not need "sudo" when you are
an admin user (usually the first user created during system
installation).

[Bug 868904] Re: Redshift fails to start with session if no external location provider in available

2015-09-19 Thread Ted
@inoki -- can you attach the contents of /etc/geoclue/geoclue.conf??

I have also had this problem since upgrading, and I think it's related
to Geoclue's whitelisting. The redshift package should be editing
/etc/geoclue/geoclue.conf to add a stanza like these:

[redshift]
allowed=true
system=false
users=

[gtk-redshift]
allowed=true
system=false
users=

With this in /etc/geoclue/geoclue.conf, Redshift gets a location on startup and
works correctly.

[Bug 1497635] [NEW] keyword search in url bar fails after upgrade to firefox 41

2015-09-19 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

After upgrade to firefox 41, keyword searches are no longer working for
me in the url bar. All keyword searches are instead being passed to the
default search engine (google).

This looks similar to bug #1417240, but I don't remember being affected
by that bug and this has certainly been working for me up through
firefox 40.

[Bug 1305699] Re: upowerd crashed with SIGSEGV in service_client_free()

2015-09-19 Thread Matias N. Goldberg
+1 to ask for a backport to 14.04. It's getting pretty annoying.

It happens every time I plug my iPad Mini 3 to the USB; it gets worst if
the system boots with the iPad already plugged ("System problem
detected" will show up as soon as I'm logged in, my screen resolution
will be wrong, then goes right, and the text is rendered differently, as
if missing antialias or using a different font)

[Bug 1471477] Re: Xorg crash

2015-09-19 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
leex, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
However, your crash report is missing.

Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your
crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. First, execute at a
terminal:
cd /var/crash && sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade &&
sudo service apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in
/etc/default/apport and restart. Now reproduce the crash, then open a terminal,
navigate to your /var/crash directory and file your report with:
sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. By
default, this sends the crash to the Ubuntu Error Tracker
infrastructure, which is different than Launchpad. For more on this,
please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ErrorTracker .

However, if after doing this you would still like to have a crash report posted
to Launchpad, for example to ease triage and add others to your report, one
would need to open the following file via a terminal:
sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf

and comment out the line:
'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

by changing it to:
# 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via:
sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

I'm closing this report since the process outlined above will deal with
this issue more efficiently. Also, please do not attach your crash
report manually to this report and reopen it. Thank you for your
understanding.

The glibc 2.22 package is only in wily-proposed, which is not recommended to
be used by end users. You may have pulled in any number of unrelated
packages besides glibc 2.22, if you tried to upgrade to wily-proposed.

[Bug 1175947] Re: gvfs-copy --preserve doesn't work with MTP devices

2015-09-19 Thread dantonic
Having same problem with a galaxy note 3. I appreciate ubuntu, but just
want to say that these are the kind of problems that have caused me(and
I'm guessing others as well) to leave Linux and go back to Windows many
times. This bug is still present and it's been 2.5 years... I would
consider this a basic obvious feature that should be part of any file
copying function. Guess I need to boot Windows just so I can preserve
the integrity of my files.

[Bug 1489476] Re: Feature request - To have an option not to share Firefox health report with Mozilla (but still generate it for the user to see)

2015-09-19 Thread Nikita Yerenkov-Scott
** Description changed:

It would be nice if like in the Windows and Mac version in Firefox, for
- the Linux version of Firefox to also have the ability for you to select
- that you don't want to send the Firefox health report to Mozilla, but
- you still want to have it generated for you to see.
+ the Linux version of Firefox to also have the option in the normal
+ about:preferences to turn off data sharing of the Firefox Health Report,
+ as you can do this in about:healthreport, but it is not very obvious
+ there so it would be nice if there was an option here too:
+ about:preferences#advanced
+
+ Another thing on this matter is that when you disable data sharing in
+ about:healthreport, the tick box in about:preferences#advanced becomes
+ unticked, but as the tick box is meant to enable and disable both data
+ sharing and the actual generation of the report, it is misleading to
+ have it unticked, instead there should be a separate tick box there for
+ this option. It also means that one can think that their report
+ generation is not on, but in fact the data sharing has just been
+ disabled there. This also means that when one disables data sharing
+ there, they have no way to disable the entire report generation thing
+ because the box in the normal area become unticked.

** Summary changed:

- Feature request - To have an option not to share Firefox health report with
Mozilla (but still generate it for the user to see)
+ Firefox should have separate tick box for disabling of data sharing of the
Firefox Health Report in the normal preferences area

[Bug 1497621] [NEW] Unity display corrupted on login or switch user

2015-09-19 Thread tap
Public bug reported:

I have a new install of 15.04. I am using lightdm with a unity desktop
(default). I have two users on my system. Often when I log in or
switch user unity or lightdm (I don't know enough to understand which
one) will freeze on a corrupted display. The launcher icons and the
launcher will be overwritten with some pseudo-random pattern. the bar
across the top of the display will also be corrupted. Sometimes the
display has both my desktop and the unity-login greeter mixed. I
usually can't type or do alt-f2 for several seconds. At some point
(usually several seconds later) the display will appear to "reset,"
sometimes once, sometimes several times and eventually will settle on an
uncorrupted, usable screen. If I switch user 10 times this will happen
on 8 of them.

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 1496014] Re: kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception in interrupt drm_kms_helper

2015-09-19 Thread HelmutHeidel
Have taken a look to the HowTo for the MainlineBuilds. The preparation part
requires to uninstall VirtualBox and other modules. My problem is that this is
my "production" machine, and VirtualBox is the main reason that this machine
exists.
First I have to build up an alternative server, this may take a while.
Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1491638] Re: running with software rendering

2015-09-19 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
ice cooper, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
As per http://www.asrock.com/mb/SiS/K7S41GX/?cat=Download=BIOS an
update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (2.80).
If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status New.

Thank you for your understanding.

** Tags added: apport-collected has-fix has-workaround kubuntu
reproducible single-occurrence

** Description changed:

After configuring screen energy saving in KDE, I noticed that after DPMS
standby, my screen brightness is set to maximum. This is confirmed by
  `cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness`. The problem can
be easily reproduce by switching to standby manually using `xset dpms
  force standby`.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) echo "300" | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
  2) cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
  This will report: 300
  3) xset dpms force standby
  4) Move mouse/press key
  5) cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
  This will report 937

Also affects me with a Lenovo Thinkpad E550 running KXstudio 14.04

Current workaround is an old Logitech UVC desktop webcam perched on top

[Bug 1497627] [NEW] Periodically video will freeze for no reason at all and no specific time between freezes.

2015-09-19 Thread chris pollock
Public bug reported:

This has been going on for over a year. It doesn't matter if I have any
applications open such as Evolution or Firefox. It could happen any time
during the day when I'm working on the computer or during the night when
its' the most idle. Once the video freezes the cursor can still be moved
around the desktop however clicking on anything does not work. During
this time all background process and cronjobs continue to run.

Running the command listed below:

chris@localhost:~$ cat /proc/version_signature > version.log
cat: /proc/version_signature: No such file or directory

Of course what I expect to happen is the video to not freeze every so often.
What happened is that the video froze.

[Bug 1409093] Re: Files do not move to the trash

2015-09-19 Thread Kumbarov
As part of the big bug review for 16.04 LTS I have tested this on 15.10
and the bug is still there.

I create an empty document on desktop and then drag it to Trash in the
Unity launcher making sure that Trash is highlighted. It does not work
from the first time but it works from the second.

[Bug 1497627] Re: Periodically video will freeze for no reason at all and no specific time between freezes.

2015-09-19 Thread chris pollock
An additional note. Based on a bug that I have been supplying
information to https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75394
because initially there would be an error noted in my syslog
"[drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... render
ring idle". This error has since stopped being entered into my syslog.
The reason that I'm running a non-Ubuntu kernel but instead the most
current stable drm-intel kernel from here http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-next/ is that I posted a message about
this issue in the Intel-GFX mailing list and was contacted by Chris
Wilson, Intel Open Source Technology Centre who had me update to kernel
4.0.0-997-generic. I also updated the driver per his instructions which
can be seen in the attached Xorg.0.log. I have also filed a bug report
about this previously -
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1402331 A bug
report that I personally filed at freedesktop.org -
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=91495 can also be
referenced for more information. When the freeze happens I'm able to SSH
into the desktop from my tablet. I've run some GDB back traces on Gnome-
Shell. The one from a freeze in August is attached. The latest freeze
was on 10 Sept at 5:03am after a runtime of 16d9h12m. The system was
fairly idle at this time as there were no applications running using
video such as Firefox or Evolution just background apps.

[Bug 1480590] Re: Minecraft + Oracle Java + maximized always crashes with SIGSEGV (ubuntu 14.04, java 7.0_80-b15, minecraft 1.7.10)

2015-09-19 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Martin, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. A
crash in Java has nothing to do with xorg. Regarding Oracle Java,
please follow the instructions as per the crash report to report to
Oracle directly Regarding icedtea, your crash report is missing.

Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your
crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. First, execute at a
terminal:
cd /var/crash && sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade &&
sudo service apport start force_start=1

[Bug 1497620] [NEW] cross compile armhf fails when outside of home

[Bug 776999] Re: [Lenovo W520] laptop freezes on ACPI-related actions

2015-09-19 Thread prs
Had problem on Lenovo W520 with Kubuntu 14.04 to get external VGA AND LVDS
working.
With Optimus no chance.
Had to switch to discrete graphics in Bios.
Nvidia drivers nogo.
Switched to Nouveau i.e. reinstalled the driver.
But than had problem with brightness on LVDS.
Finally figured out working boot params:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="agp=off quiet splash acpi_osi=linux
thinkpad-acpi.brightness_enable=1 nox2apic"

Other settings like recommended here
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Debugging/Backlight did not work.

Works for now. Will check next on docking station.
