[Bug 1503551] [NEW] Java segfaulted in i965 driver - lots of deleted mmapped files
Public bug reported: Java encountered a segfault in the i965 driver while running Minecraft. A perusal of the dump report suggests that the issue is not due to Minecraft but due to heavy use of the graphics exacerbating a memory mapping leak in the driver - it seems that the mappings for /dev/drm/card0 and /dri objects are not properly freed. Note that I was running Optifine with Multi-Core loading, which causes multi-threaded use of the graphics driver. Important parts of the hs_err file are pasted below. However, I cut out a *lot* of the /drm mm object and /dev/dri/card0 mappings. There's a more than a hundred pages at 30 lines a page. --- # # A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment: # # SIGSEGV (0xb) at pc=0x7f180efcc4e3, pid=31233, tid=139740657592064 # # JRE version: OpenJDK Runtime Environment (7.0_79-b14) (build 1.7.0_79-b14) # Java VM: OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (24.79-b02 mixed mode linux-amd64 compressed oops) # Derivative: IcedTea 2.5.6 # Distribution: Ubuntu 15.04, package 7u79-2.5.6-0ubuntu1.15.04.1 # Problematic frame: # C [i965_dri.so+0x1914e3] # # Failed to write core dump. [Bug 1073478] Re: squid3 logrotate fails when squid is not running
The underlying issue here is that the upstart script does not wait long enough for squid3 to finish. By default, when squid3 receives a SIGTERM it will close the socket for incoming connections and will wait for existing connections to complet. How long it waits before forcefully closing those connections is configured by the shutdown_lifetime directive - 30 seconds by default. Current setting, SIGKILL after 5 seconds: = # strace -r -e trace=signal, file -p $(cat /var/run/squid3.pid) Process 20865 attached - interrupt to quit 0.00 --- SIGTERM (Terminated) @ 0 (0) --- 0.000440 rt_sigreturn(0xf) = -1 EINTR (Interrupted system call) 0.000418 stat("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=118, ...}) = 0 5.006483 +++ killed by SIGKILL +++ With "kill timeout 40" in upstart script, notice the pid file being unlinked (the ~30 seconds wait is due to the default value of shutdown_lifetime directive): = # strace -r -e trace=signal, file -p $(cat /var/run/squid3.pid) Process 20805 attached - interrupt to quit 0.00 --- SIGTERM (Terminated) @ 0 (0) --- 0.000284 rt_sigreturn(0xf) = -1 EINTR (Interrupted system call) 0.000402 stat("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=118, ...}) = 0 31.611726 stat("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=118, ...}) = 0 0.001792 --- SIGCHLD (Child exited) @ 0 (0) --- 0.000247 rt_sigreturn(0x) = 63 0.006027 unlink("/var/run/squid3.pid") = 0 0.000539 open("/proc/sys/kernel/ngroups_max", O_RDONLY) = 0 0.000387 open("/etc/group", O_RDONLY|O_CLOEXEC) = 0 Process 20805 detached Note that the current behavior is also quite bad and can corrupt cache index files, which is a really bad thing as squid will take a long time to start the next time when it detects a corrupted cache index file [1]. I'm willing to submit a SRU for this, but I wonder if we should replace SIGTERM with SIGINT. Using SIGINT means that squid will drop outstanding connections immediately and then proceed to write cache index files. This will avoid squid slowing down shutdown times for users [2] and we somewhat keep the current behavior (ie. the current 5-sec SIGKILL already does that and I don't see anyone complaining). With "kill signal SIGINT", which does not wait on outstanding connections: = # strace -r -e trace=signal, file -p $(cat /var/run/squid3.pid) Process 20891 attached - interrupt to quit 0.00 --- SIGINT (Interrupt) @ 0 (0) --- 0.000312 rt_sigreturn(0x2) = -1 EINTR (Interrupted system call) 0.000237 stat("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=118, ...}) = 0 1.123564 stat("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=118, ...}) = 0 0.000754 --- SIGCHLD (Child exited) @ 0 (0) --- 0.000103 rt_sigreturn(0x) = 0 0.002031 unlink("/var/run/squid3.pid") = 0 0.000154 open("/proc/sys/kernel/ngroups_max", O_RDONLY) = 0 0.000142 open("/etc/group", O_RDONLY|O_CLOEXEC) = 0 Process 20891 detached Still, let me reiterate that even with SIGINT enabled I believe we should still increase "kill timeout" somewhat as we surely want to avoid any cache corruption. According to [1] we don't need to wait that much, so I guess anything between 20~40 should be fine. Again, since issuing a SIGKILL during cache write *WILL* corrupt it, it might be sane to wait even longer for cases when the system is under high load and/or has a lot of cache dirs - this would/should be quite rare anyway: in most cases squid shutdown time with SIGINT should be under 5 secs. Of course, since there is still a chance that SIGKILL does get issued, we will also need the fix proposed in #1 because there's a chance the pid file was not removed. [Bug 1503540] [NEW] left mouse button stop working
Public bug reported: I have a Mad Catz M.M.O. 7 mouse with multiple buttons. The mouse have a Profile Button, witch switch mouse setings. When first (default) profile is active then left mouse button work is very buggy: cursor not change (still in last form), windows do not selectable, etc I think this happens because in profile mode used "hidden system" buttons. pressed-released - is first profile, released-released - second profile, released-pressed - third, etc. command "xinput" reported about 24 buttons. button[20] is always "pressed" in first profile mode. if xinput say what all buttons is released, then no problem with mouse. -- :~$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu Wily Werewolf (development branch) Release:15.10 !!! tested in Live session, can't be installed now !!! [Bug 627195] Re: Window management - Apps raised from indicators sometimes dont have the focus
** Description changed: Ubuntu 11.10 beta compiz 1:0.9.5.94+bzr2803-0ubuntu5 unity 4.16.0-0ubuntu1 1. open banshee, start a song in it and minimize 2. open another application lets say gnome-terminal 3. click on the sound menu and select banshee What happens banshee icon in the launcher wiggles and banshee main window is not shown What should happen banshee main window should come to focus This is a long standing bug which Ted Gould thinks should be fixed at window manager's level. Some other observations= The problem wont happen 1. if every other app is minimized or 2. Banshee is the only opened app or 3. after opening gnome-terminal, banshee window is closed so that it hides to the SoundMenu and opened again =Comment from Ted Gould= tedg, Hi! any thoughts on the long standing bug 627195 ? Its been there before unity so I guess we can conclude unity not to be responsible om26er, My thought is that window managers should $%#$ get fixed... though I haven't convinced smspillaz of it yet. =The good rule= 3v1n0: Indicators should present the application windows by passing to them the timestamp of the menu item activation event. Unfortunately for indicator-sound, this is not trival as it sounds, since it needs a change to the MPRIS dbus specification. See comment https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/627195/comments/26 for more informations. For what concerns libappindicator based indicators (such as the one used by tomboy), since it's not currently possible in libdbusmenu to pass the event during activation (so that clients will be able to get the proper timestamp using gtk_get_current_event_time), there are two "hackish" ways: 1. Use the server time to present a window: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=688830 2. Get the event timestamp from the dbus-menu linked to the gtk-menus: - http://paste.ubuntu.com/5701235/ + https://archive.is/2tLX6 3. Qt applications workaround: http://is.gd/WnW9eN Window managers will obey to it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/627195 Title: Window management - Apps raised from indicators sometimes dont have the focus To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/627195/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
