[Bug 1297051] Re: gnome-terminal doesn't recognise C1 controls
I have upgraded one Linux computer to Wily Werewolf, so I took the opportunity of retesting this. I can confirm that this now works. So this bug can be closed. As suggested above, it is unlikely that any system that expects to be talking to real terminals will use UTF-8. Hence it is most likely necessary to set the encoding in gnome-terminal to another one (e.g. ISO 8859-1). Strangely, that does not appear to be possible to do in a gnome-terminal profile via the GUI or via the gnome-terminal command line. However it does work if you edit it in to the profile using something external to gnome-terminal. So, in case it helps someone else, to set the encoding in a gnome-terminal profile, you will probably want to use gconf-editor or gconftool -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1297051 Title: gnome-terminal doesn't recognise C1 controls To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vte3/+bug/1297051/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

So even if I want to use Facebook, I have to remove Google account from System settings, else it is selected by default and select box is in disabled state, so I can not select any other account. ** Attachment added: "Publish popup window" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shotwell/+bug/1265272/+attachment/4510959/+files/shotwell_picasa_google.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1265272 Title: Publish button does nothing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/shotwell/+bug/1265272/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1482711] Re: X displays nothing instead of login screen
I know I took a long time again. My primary observation is that this bug does not appear when the nvidia driver is not installed. I tested the upstream kernel version that matches the most recent repository kernel update(as well as the most recent upstream kernel version) before installing the most recent repository kernel update(3.13.11-031311ckt27 which the package manager calls 3.13.0-66.108). With both of the kernels from the upstream source, the nvidia module failed to install, and neither exhibited the bug, but when installed from the package manager the bug did occur in that same kernel version. Unfortunately I don't know how to make the nvidia driver install for the upstream kernels, if it is even possible, and thus cannot test them properly. This is complicated by the fact that this bug appeared when the package manager forced an update to the nvidia module from 331 which supports my video card to 340 which makes no such claim. Other than the nvidia driver not installing, the upstream kernels worked fine, though with a lot of warnings when I booted them, all about apparmor rules not being enforced. If you want, I ran a dmesg with each of them booted into a file, but I hesitate to post them, and thus pollute the associated data without your say so. Given this information I fully expect that the answer here is either, "go report this to ___ instead of here.", "Sorry but your hardware is not supported by the newer kernel versions. Have a nice day." or possibly a "Well, see if it happens with the repository kernels if you uninstall the ndivia drivers." (I made a half hearted attempt to do that even before I posted this bug, but I didn't figure out how to tell the package manager to uninstall all the nvidia drivers without trying to install some random other version.) Another thing that might provide some clues: some time ago I had installed the CUDA develpoment tools, and made a simple test program. On the version of the kernel for which the desktop works, that CUDA program will not run (it says that there is no device), however, when switched over to a virtual terminal from the blank screen caused by the bug, the program runs just fine. This tells me that perhaps the bug isn't occurring for this kernel version because the nvidia driver isn't working for it. So I hope this is somewhat useful even though technically the response is unable to test upstream. As per the instructions I will mark it as confirmed again. I hope that that is the right thing to do, even though I wasn't really able to test what you wanted well. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1482711 Title: X displays nothing instead of login screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1482711/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1495043] Re: Suspend/Resume Regression 3.19.0-28-generic Dell xps15
I have sent an email to the debian maintainer of the sta broadcom package, contents as followed: [quote] Hi Eduard, I have just filed a bug on the ubuntu bugs forum at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1495043 . Essentially the problem is that the driver prevents my XPS15 from resuming from suspend. As a temporary solution, I have created a script for systemd-sleep that unloads the wl driver prior to suspend, and reloads it after resuming. This fixes the problem, but is really just a hack. You can see my script on the bug report. I just wanted to let you know about this issue as the maintainer of the package. Thanks for all of your hard work in providing this software. [Bug 1437931] Re: starting stellarium causes system crash
Running Ubuntu MATE 15.10 with Compiz enabled. The X-server apparently crashes every time Stellarium is run. The crash is not immediate, I can pan and zoom the sky with no problems. The crash seems to occur as soon as I try to interact with the menus -- or if I close Stellarium. In this state, all visible GUI elements are frozen except for the mouse cursor. The system is not completely dead -- I can still switch to a console with Ctrl-Alt-F1, and can still restart the X-server with Ctrl- Backspace. There is no problem if Compiz is disabled. Also, I have run several other full-screen 3D games and apps with no similar problems. My machine has NVIDIA, but I believe it is using Intel (Broadwell) Graphics. This error post was helpful for me because it reminded me to try without Compiz. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1437931 Title: starting stellarium causes system crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/stellarium/+bug/1437931/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1512219] [NEW] apt appears to be confused when installing a backport that version depends on other backports
Public bug reported: This was seen in trusty where backports are pretty widely used. We backported the whole lxc+lxd stack (golang, libseccomp, cgmanager, lxcfs, lxc, lxd) with some added version dependencies everywhere it made sense so that when pulling lxd, everything would be installed with the right version. The assumption was that since lxd didn't exist in 14.04 and that as backports are enabled there by default, a simple "apt-get install lxd" would work. That's not the case, it fails with: root@blah:~# apt-get install lxd Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: lxd : Depends: lxc (>= 1.1.4-0ubuntu1.1~) but 1.0.7-0ubuntu0.9 is to be installed Recommends: lxd-client but it is not going to be installed E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. Showing more resolver details show: Broken lxd:amd64 Depends on lxc [ amd64 ] < none -> 1.0.7-0ubuntu0.9 | 1.1.4-0ubuntu1.1~ubuntu14.04.1 > ( admin ) (>= 1.1.4-0ubuntu1.1~) Considering lxc:amd64 0 as a solution to lxd:amd64 Re-Instated liblxc1:amd64 Re-Instated python3-lxc:amd64 Re-Instated lxc:amd64 I then tried installing with "apt-get install lxd/trusty-backports" which got me roughly the same thing: root@blah:~# apt-get install lxd/trusty-backports Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Selected version '0.21-0ubuntu3~ubuntu14.04.1' (Ubuntu:14.04/trusty-backports [amd64]) for 'lxd' Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: lxd : Depends: lxc (>= 1.1.4-0ubuntu1.1~) but it is not going to be installed E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. So in the end, I had to use "apt-get -t trusty-backports install lxd" which did succeed in pulling everything from backports. This seems like an apt bug as apt is clever enough to go pick things from backports when they're available nowhere else, one would expect that it would do the same when picking the dependencies of such a backport when they are in the same pocket as the backport, instead of failing to resolve the dependencies. It'd be great if people could use a straight apt-get install for non- existing packages or the /trusty-backports packages to pull specific packages from backports during install, instead of having to rely on a separate apt-get run with -t trusty-backports specified. Also it looks like our existing backports documentation points users to the /trusty-backports syntax which will not work for any reasonably complex backport which involves more than one package. ** Affects: apt (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1512219 Title: apt appears to be confused when installing a backport that version depends on other backports To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/1512219/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1177432] Re: Enable backports in cloud-init archive template
Just ran into this issue again today when testing the LXD backport. This is pretty annoying as it's causing a completely different user experience for cloud users compared to regular distro users. Also, at least in trusty, apt-add-repository doesn't know how to add backports, so a user will need to manually update /etc/apt/sources.list and then run apt-get update which makes installing backports significantly harder than it should be. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1177432 Title: Enable backports in cloud-init archive template To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-init/+bug/1177432/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1512211] [NEW] Charging from USB battery, phone stops charging, switches on screen, and discharges
Public bug reported: When I was travelling recently I found that if I plugged into a USB battery overnight to charge my phone, when I got up the next morning the phone didn't have any more power than when I started. Turns out the reason is: when the phone decides the battery is full, it stops drawing current. The battery then decides that charging is over and automatically switches off. The phone then decides that it's been unplugged and turns the screen on. I had set the phone to not automatically switch the screen off, so it just left the screen on all night. The next morning it was as if it had never charged. So I have the following suggestions: * Just don't turn the screen on when the user unplugs the charger * If the intention is to let the user know that the charger has been unplugged, pop up a message. Just turning the screen on isn't very useful feedback. * If you are turning the screen on automatically it "doesn't count" wrt the user's "automatically turn off screen after..." setting. This should always be just a few seconds. * If the user has configured the phone to not automatically switch off the screen, don't automatically turn it on either * Give me a few more options for automatically switching off the screen - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 is a lot of resolution at the low end. Where is 30mins and 1hour? On the phone, we are using 0.6.0-rc2 of libjsoncpp. Looking at the git repository, the assertion triggers if the node type is not objectValue: JSON_ASSERT( type_ == nullValue || type_ == objectValue ); The location of this assert matches the line number in the stack trace. Later versions of libjsoncpp don't assert but throw an exception instead. I suspect that's why we are seeing this only on the phone because, on the desktop, we are using version 0.10.5. In the get_node() overload for string, we have: if (!root_) { throw unity::LogicException("Current node is empty"); } if (!root_.isMember(node_name)) { throw unity::LogicException("Node " + node_name + " does not exist"); } // ... I'm pushing a branch that checks the node type before calling isMember() and throws if the node type isn't objectValue. I expect that'll stop the crash. It does not just affect positioning of widgets. Resizing also does not work. Sometimes it keeps size/position, sometimes it returns to previous size/position. It also affects other widgets that were not moved or resized. It seems that it only happens when a new position of a widget covers the previous position. For example, with large widgets like Folder View, if you move it for a half of its length, it will return to it original position. Everything happens as soon as mouse gets out of a widget and side control "slides back in". This problem is maybe associated with a feature that returns widgets that were moved outside desktop area back to the desktop (to be completely visible). The interesting thing is that, when you manually restart plasma-desktop, everything works correctly. Also I cou

[Bug 1041790]
FWIW, my issue (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54226#c191), was resolved by uninstalling various components, re-installing and updating them. I have a hunch (completely unproven) that it was a transparent bit-fail issue from the SSD. By un-installing and re-installing, the files were likely installed to a different location on the drive. It wasn't configuration, as I tried erasing, and even rolling back to defaults, with the problem still persisting. As it was almost daily, prior to uninstall, and hasn't happened since the install, this is all I can attribute it to. Reassigning this bug to the kernel. AFAIK the only problem that was in Xmir itself was resolved as bug 1417541. [Bug 1512193] Re: arm64: report 'error: failure writing sector 0x19df788 to `hd0'' after a fresh install
The issue can be work around by commenting 'recordfail' in the boot entry of 'Ubuntu'. And it can be reproduced on upstrem grub too. Looks the sectors wroten to hd0 is out of range in the partition, and it should be bug in grub. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1512193 Title: arm64: report 'error: failure writing sector 0x19df788 to `hd0'' after a fresh install To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1512193/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
