[Bug 1445664] Re: kernel 3.16 breaks POSIX extended ACLs over NFS
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected trusty ** Description changed: I have a development environment that uses Vagrant with NFS shares to a Trusty development VM from OS X laptops. After the upgrade to the HWE kernel 3.16, installing Ruby gems into the NFS mount inside the VM failed because of install(1) failing with permission errors. Debugging revealed that it's trying to set POSIX extended ACLs using setxattr(); On 3.13 this operation failed with EOPNOTSUPP (the server does not support extended ACLs), but on 3.16 it fails with EPERM, even if the NFS mount is explicitly mounted with "noacl". Debugging with ftrace and source diving suggests that kernel 3.16 refactored the POSIX extended ACL code so that before the call even hits the NFS layer, it passes through a generic permission-check layer. It appears that that layer is not aware of NFS UID remapping, and so fails the call regardless of what the server would have done. A simple test case is `install -c -m 0755 `, which will succeed on 3.13 and fail on 3.16. The broken system is: vagrant@packer-vmware-iso:~$ lsb_release -a; uname -a No LSB modules are available. [Bug 1523100] Re: Alsa not detecting internal microphone [ALC255]
Barry, 1. There is no real benefit of 16.04, as it now has an older kernel (4.3) than is available for wily (4.4). It once had better Intel HD graphics support, but now the support has landed in 15.10. I'm now running Ubuntu 15.10 too. 2. I've already tried node 0x19 for the internal microphone, but it doesn't work (either I hear nothing or just plain white noise). 3. I'm not sure about the combined mic/headset jack. If they would have integrated one in this PC, why would there then be a separate microphone jack? Raymond, I tested the internal mic using both sound recorder and cheese and tried the stereo channels separately and together (using pavucontrol) while going through the nodes in hdajackretask. You have a point with the phasing, I might go through the nodes again just to make sure, as I might have forgotten to try the channels separately on some nodes :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1523100 Title: Alsa not detecting internal microphone [ALC255] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1523100/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It'd be useful if we could get the full system ubuntu-download-manager log next time this happens from /var/log/ubuntu-download-manager/ (not the user log from .cache/ubuntu-download-manager). In attempting to reproduce this I was able to on one occasion get the system into a state where download manager permanently believed that the network connection was "gsm" even when connected to wifi (and since the system image download settings prevent download over gsm it caused the downloads to be permanently queued), so this may be what's happening here. Archive admins: when promoting this, looks like you'll need to either only promote python-senlinclient binary package or promote python3-heatclient too (its source is in main, just not the python3 binary). I don't believe openstack needs python3-senlinclient yet, so it should be safe to leave in universe. ** Changed in: python-senlinclient (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1526927 Title: [MIR] python-senlinclient, python-openstacksdk, python-keystoneauth1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-keystoneauth1/+bug/1526927/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1520343] Re: Qualcomm Atheros wireless card [168c:003e] (rev 32) not supported
** Description changed: + --- + + STATUS: + + Currently there is a fix for this problem in post #22 (originally post + #19, but reposted due to command typos!) which seems to have fixed the + issue for many. This bug is unique to revision 32 of the card + [168c:003e], fixes for older revisions don't seem to work. + + There are a couple of issues regarding the fix for some people (not + all): + + 1. Wireless works, but network throughput stops some time after + connecting to access point + + 2. Bluetooth communications take a noticeable performance hit when + transferring something over WiFi + + --- + I have recently installed Ubuntu 15.10 (64-bit) alongside Windows 10 on an Acer Aspire VN7-792G-76ZH and discovered, that the Qualcomm wireless card doesn't work in it or 16.04. The card has the device id 168c:003e as many other cards, for example the Qualcomm Atheros Killer (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1383184), but it has a newer revision number (32) and the suggested fixes work only partially and the wireless is unusable. The computer has just been released this summer and is Intel Skylake -based. I've tried the patch from bug 1383184, which has a fix for the card revision 20: Make the directory /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6174/hw3.0/ and put in the patch files: board.bin firmware-4.bin notice_ath10k_firmware-4.txt ath10k_pci succeeds in loading the firmware, but it seems that the firmware is not working correctly: dmesg | grep ath [5.452683] ath10k_pci :07:00.0: pci irq msi-x interrupts 8 irq_mode 0 reset_mode 0 [5.678420] ath10k_pci :07:00.0: Direct firmware load for ath10k/cal-pci-:07:00.0.bin failed with error -2 [5.678773] ath10k_pci :07:00.0: Direct firmware load for ath10k/QCA6174/hw3.0/board-pci-168c:003e:11ad:0807.bin failed with error -2 [5.678781] ath10k_pci :07:00.0: failed to load spec board file, falling back to generic: -2 [5.679445] ath10k_pci :07:00.0: Direct firmware load for ath10k/QCA6174/hw3.0/firmware-5.bin failed with error -2 [5.679453] ath10k_pci :07:00.0: could not fetch firmware file 'ath10k/QCA6174/hw3.0/firmware-5.bin': -2 [7.802316] ath10k_pci :07:00.0: qca6174 hw3.2 (0x0503, 0x00340aff, 168c:003e:11ad:0807 fallback) fw WLAN.RM.2.0-00180-QCARMSWPZ-1 api 4 htt 3.26 wmi 4 cal otp max_sta 32 [7.802329] ath10k_pci :07:00.0: debug 0 debugfs 1 tracing 1 dfs 0 testmode 0 [8.200607] ath: EEPROM regdomain: 0x6c [8.200614] ath: EEPROM indicates we should expect a direct regpair map [8.200619] ath: Country alpha2 being used: 00 [8.200621] ath: Regpair used: 0x6c [8.216605] ath10k_pci :07:00.0 wlp7s0: renamed from wlan0 [ 13.462029] ath10k_pci :07:00.0: failed to enable dynamic BW: -11 [ 16.461416] ath10k_pci :07:00.0: could not suspend target (-11) [ 24.760062] ath10k_pci :07:00.0: failed to enable dynamic BW: -11 [ 27.759534] ath10k_pci :07:00.0: could not suspend target (-11) [ 36.046205] ath10k_pci :07:00.0: failed to set arp ac override parameter: -11 [ 39.045729] ath10k_pci :07:00.0: could not suspend target (-11) [ 47.344304] ath10k_pci :07:00.0: failed to enable dynamic BW: -11 [ 50.343794] ath10k_pci :07:00.0: could not suspend target (-11) [ 58.630534] ath10k_pci :07:00.0: failed to enable dynamic BW: -11 [ 61.629936] ath10k_pci :07:00.0: could not suspend target (-11) [ 69.920624] ath10k_pci :07:00.0: failed to enable dynamic BW: -11 [ 72.920132] ath10k_pci :07:00.0: could not suspend target (-11) [ 81.206812] ath10k_pci :07:00.0: failed to enable dynamic BW: -11 [ 84.206218] ath10k_pci :07:00.0: could not suspend target (-11) ... [Bug 1520343] Re: Qualcomm Atheros wireless card [168c:003e] (rev 32) not supported
I don't think this bug is a duplicate of bug 1383184, as the suggested fix: "For now, you guys could use 15.10 (purge the ath10k-dkms if you tried installing it), and make a copy of https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux- firmware.git/plain/ath10k/QCA6174 into /lib/firmware/ath10k/" didn't work for me. "dmesg | grep ath" just reports the same old error as in the description. Also, I have already tried the patches from that bug report earlier and made this new one especially because it's fixes didn't work, as you can see in the beginning of the description: "The card has the device id 168c:003e as many other cards, for example the Qualcomm Atheros Killer (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1383184), but it has a newer revision number (32) and the suggested fixes work only partially and the wireless is unusable." That said, I've found out how it's only partially working. The suggested firmware-4.bin file from that report does work, but the board.bin file doesn't. If you replace the board.bin file with the file suggested in this bug report's post #22 the combination starts working. The status of bug 1383184 is marked as "fix released", but having the latest network-manager and linux-firmware on kernel 4.4.0-040400rc5-generic (Ubuntu 15.10) does not fix the issue with the REVISION 32 of the card, which needs the customized board.bin file. Comment 9 is a different bug, see https://launchpad.net/bugs/1525119 (already fixed in bzr). [Bug 1519427] Re: Screen goes blank every 5 minutes, requires TTY switch to get it back.
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: On a Dell M3800, running Trusty, my screen goes blank (e.g. as if it were going idle, but still backlit) very often (around every 5-10 minutes). The only way I can get it back is to either close the laptop lid to suspend and wake it back up, or to switch TTYs. [Bug 1528537] [NEW] Invalid host route to default gateway set with net_gateway option
Public bug reported: We are pushing routes from our OpenVPN server as follows: push "route 203.0.113.0 255.255.255.0" push "route 203.0.113.64 255.255.255.248 net_gateway" i.e. we want 203.0.113.0/24 routed through the VPN tunnel but not 203.0.113.64/29 which shoould be routed via the default gateway of the client. The client does not set a default route through the VPN tunnel. When running openvpn from the command line everything works as expected, a separate route for 203.0.113.64/29 is created. With NetworkManager odd behaviour is observed: The default gateway (e.g. 192.168.1.1) gets a host route through the tunnel. In the end that disables all network traffic because OpenVPN is not able to route its own packets. Something in the combination of OpenVPN and NetworkManager gets confused when it sees a route pushed with "net_gateway". ** Affects: network-manager-openvpn (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1528537 Title: Invalid host route to default gateway set with net_gateway option To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-openvpn/+bug/1528537/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1267059] Re: "Unattended-Upgrade::Remove-Unused-Dependencies" does not work
Note that this long story started from kernel upgrades, and so far nobody has made an important point... When you install a new kernel package, you may want to remove all previous versions indeed, *except* the one that is currently running. Because if you remove the package for the currently running kernel, if you add a new device or do anything that requires loading a module, that will fail. This is because kernel modules by default require an exactly matching kernel version, unlike shared objects or other stuff that gets upgraded. A few other useful things will fail if a running kernel is not matched by an installed package. This would require extra logic to special-case the kernel packages for this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1267059 Title: "Unattended-Upgrade::Remove-Unused-Dependencies" does not work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unattended-upgrades/+bug/1267059/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1528534] [NEW] No wireless connection on computer start
Public bug reported: I use tp-link wn723n usb dongle. When I start the computer I am not connected automatically to the router but the hardware is recognized. It looks like the problem is that I get a wrong MAC : kernel: [ 32.481663] MAC Address = 00:e0:4c:81:88:02 which looks like a combination of the first part of the serial number of the dongle: 00e04c, the chip: 8188 and and an index number: 02. I have to remove the dongle and insert it in order for the wireless connection to work. Then I get the correct MAC: kernel: [ 449.752527] MAC Address = c4:e9:84:0c:cb:af It looks like the problem starts here: kernel: [ 56.946579] r8188eu 1-2:1.0 wlan1: renamed from wlan0 even though I have: # USB device 0x:0x (r8188eu) SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTR{address}=="c4:e9:84:0c:cb:af", ATTR{dev_id}=="0x0", ATTR{type}=="1", KERNEL=="wlan*", NAME="wlan0" # USB device 0x:0x (r8188eu) SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTR{address}=="00:e0:4c:81:88:02", ATTR{dev_id}=="0x0", ATTR{type}=="1", KERNEL=="wlan*", NAME="wlan1" If I reboot the computer at this point that I have a connection to the router, magically I am automatically connected again to the router.
