[Bug 1567785] [NEW] webservers missing from search results

2016-04-07 Thread xanth
Public bug reported:

apache, appache2, or webserver each find no webservers.
all three successfully find various webservers with apt-cache search.
#ubuntu+1 suggested reporting a bug.

1) lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu Xenial Xerus (development branch)
Release:16.04

2) apt-cache policy gnome-software
gnome-software:
  Installed: 3.20.1~git20160331.78d1aab-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 3.20.1~git20160331.78d1aab-0ubuntu2

500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) Expected Apache2 and additional webservers to be listed in gnome-
software as they are in apt-cache search.

4) "Apache" search found some log and perf related software, "apache2"
returned "No Application Found", "webserver" returned MonoDoc.

[Bug 1567098] Re: Cannot log in as root user when not root Unix user

2016-04-07 Thread Lars Tangvald
If auth_socket is set to a user, then ALTER USER ... IDENTIFIED BY
'password' will not have any effect.

So if the server is installed with a blank password for root, trying to
change the password with a reconfigure won't work.

But logging in as a root with a password set during the initial install
works as it should.

If we want to be able to switch from auth_socket back to a normal
password login we can ensure mysql_native_plugin is the user's
authentication method when setting the password in postinst.

I just filed bug 1567780 about ubuntu-snappy failing to start on our
default cloud images, and ~snappy-dev is not subscribed. Please add the
team to bugs of ubuntu-snappy.

Note that this package lacks a team subscription to ~snappy-dev (see bug

[Bug 1561096] Re: STC850:Brazos:Br16:Br16p05: Network ethernet port name changed under Ubuntu 16.04 with added adapters (ibmveth)

2016-04-07 Thread Martin Pitt
@IBM: Do you have a preference/opinion here, or should we decide this on
our side? (This is also a bit related to
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2016-April/039302.html).

I. e. use MAC-based names which are predictable (i. e. will be the same
across reinstalls, and you know what the name is going to be when you
add the device/before install) and don't need any state in /etc, but are
very long. Or use a reduced form of the old persistent-net-generator
whose names are *not* predictable, need to write state into /etc, but
have shorter names.

[Bug 1567695] Re: mysql-server-5.7.postinst is influenced by $HOME, causing installation hangs

2016-04-07 Thread Lars Tangvald
Adding the --no-defaults option seems to fix this, but there are cases where it
will read custom configs even with that option:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/option-file-options.html#option_general_no-defaults
so this may not fully fix the issue.

[Bug 1567776] [NEW] UITK segfault when running qmlplugindump on s390x on Qt 5.6

[Bug 1564088] Re: FFe: update to pypy 5

2016-04-07 Thread Martin Pitt
Debian testing migration does not mean much in terms of whether this
causes any new FTBFS. There are only some 20 reverse build/binary
dependencies, can you please do a test build of them against pypy 5?
Approved if that does not cause any regression or you can upload fixed
rdepends at the same time.

almost 1 and half year was working perfect. From February 2016, updates
started broken/failed.
last 15 days, every day user screen freezing. No mouse, no keyboard.

I am using Live-USB and running below codes.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repairsudo apt-get
updatesudo apt-get install -y boot-repair && boot-repair

After these commands I can reboot one time only. When I shutdown or restart
laptop, it starts again same process.

Best Regards, Serdar

Ok, I agree. But I am afraid will still be big. The fedora patch had
already incorporated almost all the stuff needed from the openssl-fips
module.
But even so, I do think is a good idea to separate any additional changes I
made. I will get started on this.

Those defines are within an OPENSSL_FIPS so were never used in regular
openssl.
The SHA ones were removed because the private_* routines above do not exist.
And the private_DES_set_key_unchecked was removed so doesn't exist either.
So, this should be ok.

I did not think these change the default behaviour. They are adding PSS or
X931 padding to rsa
if requested via a flag. Let me investigate further as to why it was not
upstreamed.
My original guess was because the upstream openssl-fips module offers new
FIPS_rsa_* routines that do this padding.

crypto/fips/fips.c, verify_checksums() : This dynamically swaps out a

Yes, this is needed. This is part of the integrity check that is required
by fips.
We dlopen libcrypto.so and dlsym FIPS_mode_set. I interpreted this as a
check to ensure we are running a fips capable libcrypto.so.
We get the path to the file and then dlclose. We then compute the hmac of
path/libcrypto.so and compare the results against the hmac we ship
to verify this is our binary. Same thing is done for libssl.so. We do not
yet include the hmac file to check against, so the integrity check fails
and prevents running in fips mode.

The openssl-fips module does this hmac integrity check of itself and
libcrypto.so differently.

No, at least not yet, but is a good idea.

Openssl community implements a lot of the fips approved algorithms into the
openssl-fips module, rather than into regular openssl.
This means for us to acquire some of these fips approved algorithms, we
must take them from the openssl-fips module source.

The fips_rand* and fips_drbg_* are from the upstream openssl-fips module.
They are fips compliant RNGs not offered in regular openssl. When running
in
non-fips mode can still use regular openssl RNGs. However, when running in
fips mode, you must use the fips approved RNGs only.

hmmm... latest fips specification update (Jan 2016), only allows DRBG for
random number generators now. The PRNGs are no longer allowed in fips mode.
So perhaps I should remove fips_rand.c now and not later. So I will remove.

crypto/fips does not change hmac, but rather offers an hmac based DRBG.

As for RSA, if you are referring to fips_rsa_x931g.c, it is from the
upstream openssl-fips module. It provides rsa x931 key generation which is
not offered in regular openssl.

http://paste.ubuntu.com/15681680/ should fix this (I haven't tested it

[Bug 1567749] [NEW] screen artifacts when playing runescape (java client)

2016-04-07 Thread Henrik S.
Public bug reported:

I get screen artifacts in the game Runescape, when playing on Ubuntu
16.04 Xenial Xerus, this happened right after the update to mesa
1.2.0-1ubuntu1 so it's a regression in this version of mesa.

Glad you updated though, but since this is a dot-zero release it needs
to be patched with fixes from git until they officially release another
bugfix release.

Bug is not reported upstream AFAIK.

I downloaded 4/7/16 15:37 Gnome AMD64 iso and this problem still exists.
I see that the issue was marked as Fixed. Is this drop supposed to
contain the fix or is there a delay in seeing this in the drop?

[Bug 1567748] [NEW] please remove libappframework-java and libswingworker-java from Xenial

2016-04-07 Thread Logan Rosen
Public bug reported:

libappframework-java build-depends on libswingworker-java, which is why
this is a combined bug. Both are obsolete Java libraries, the latter of
which fails to rebuild.

libappframework-java was essentially superseded by (and is even provided
by) the libbetter-appframework-java fork in the bsaf source package.

libswingworker-java was incorporated into the JRE as of Java 6. The
package just exists as a backport for Java 5, which is no longer
supported.

Both packages are Ubuntu-only and haven't been touched in a long time,
either here or upstream.

Looks like this bug has been fixed with 4.4.0-17-generic. But the maxcpus=1 in

[Bug 1535058] Re: applications close instantly when launched from the launcher or dash

2016-04-07 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Mark, thanks for giving it a go.

Seems like a large proportion of people are using the Nvidia binary
driver (which I knew already having maintained Compiz), and are keeping
it installed when they try to test Unity8/Mir.

The bad news is we expect this to fail. And possibly should publicize
that better (maybe??).

The good news is that we have a developer working on adding support for
the latest Nvidia binary driver to Mir right now. We expect full support
will be completed within months.

in the case of this bug it only manifests on a fresh boot. A log out/in
always has menus & if booting up to no menus then logging out/in always
restores.

Another piece of info: the X client that prevents sloppy mode from
working is "nautilus". Killing nautilus makes the root window behave
normally and not grab the focus.

Over maybe 10 restarts or shutdown > restart the menus are again not
showing most of the time.

In order to stress test you can just login / logout. Rebooting isn't
necessary.

[Bug 1567652] Re: Double Commander (doublecmd) crashes at start

2016-04-07 Thread Graham Inggs
Confirming. After recent Xenial updates, doublecmd gtk crashes on startup,
doublecmd qt works fine.
On another machine, a few days behind in updates, the latest doublecmd gtk
works fine.

I found a similar report in arch linux:

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=201267
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1543447#p1543447
https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/44251

"Rollback from fontconfig-infinality-ultimate-2.11.1-25 to
fontconfig-infinality-ultimate-2.11.1-24 helps!
Now doublecmd-gtk starts again!"

There was a recent post about fontconfig to the ubuntu-devel list:

[Bug 1521831] Re: Do not create directories on removable drives

2016-04-07 Thread Matthew Exon
Can you expand on how this improves usability? It's not like content on
the drive automatically gets sorted into the correct directories or
anything, so you end up with a "Music" directory which is not where the
music kept, etc. "Where is my music?" "Ah! It must be in the 'Music'
folder!" "Oh, that's empty." "Ah! Maybe it's in *this* 'Music'
folder!" "Oh, that's empty too." Frustrating.

If the OS creates content on the card it might make sense for it to
create a content-type directory to keep it in. But that should only
happen when the content is created, not speculatively when the card is
formatted.

Ubuntu desktop does this too of course. So does my Macintosh. And I
have never understood why. Those directories have always sat empty on
every operating system I've ever used, getting in my way.

Ok, we might be able to argue/discuss that 4.0.7 is really a sequence of
bugfixes relative to 4.0.2 (and 4.0.7 is what Debian ships currently).
My concern is any new feature introductions, etc, which need careful
examination (meaning time) to avoid regressions.
