I tend to agree with you that the error [drm:intel_cpu_fifo_underrun_irq_handler [i915_bpo]] *ERROR* CPU pipe A FIFO underrun may not be specific to the problem we are talking about here. Regarding my previous comment on whether the laptop is plugged into AC, Thomas is right: if I wait long enough, the flicker does occur even when plugged in, although much less frequent on my machine. Interestingly, now that I am plugged into AC, the CPU pipe A FIFO underrun thing is no longer the error I see. Instead, this is the error I saw on dmesg: [ 2045.481992] [drm:intel_pipe_update_end [i915]] *ERROR* Atomic update failure on pipe A (start=84070 end=84071) time 9 us, min 1073, max 1079, scanline start 1087, end 1079 This is the first time I see this error since I started looking for the solution for this problem. Skylake has been out for 7 months and we still have problems I am starting to believe that the common error [drm:intel_cpu_fifo_underrun_irq_handler [i915_bpo]] *ERROR* CPU pipe A FIFO underrun is not actually responsible for the flicker. To be more precise, the FIFO underrun may result in conjunction with a flicker, but is not a unique indication. I am currently bisecting the kernel and right now I am on commit 5ffd4da+. This commit does show the FIFO underun but not at the same time the screen turns completely black for a split second. I am currently bisecting the kernel again and one thing I realize is that I can detect an error through dmesg and then set the commit to bad, but after reviewing some kernels which I have marked as good, it turns out these were bad too. This messed up my bisect and I have to start over again. Does anyone know how to specifically excite the error? And yes the flickers do tend to occur when the machine is kind of idling. My suspicion is that it has something to do with RC6. When I change the i915.enable_rc6 parameter from 7 to 0, the flickering seems to go away. The problem is, of course, disabling RC6 will drain battery a lot faster. PS. I notice that even with i915.enable_rc6=7, the GPU never goes to RC6p and RC6pp. Is that not supported on Skylake yet? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1554613 Title: screen flickering on XPS13 9350 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/1554613/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'm still having to use the shell and bluetoothctl to re-connect the device when it has disconnected. [Bug 1572679] [NEW] screen flickering and tearing kwin nouveau kubuntu 16.04
Public bug reported: The bug I see on my Dell D830 (8GB RAM, Nvidia G86M [Quadro NVS 140M] (rev a1)) with nouveau driver using Kubuntu 16.04. After login everything seems to work fine for roughly 2 minutes. After that flickering and tearing starts (when moving windows around with the mouse) and gets more intense until the screen is full of "color-blobs" (which means: one cannot see anything anymore). Starting a flash movie in Firefox provokes immediate tearing and flickering. Restarting the kwin compositor helps - for another 2 minutes, then the whole problem starts to catch on momentum again. I tried everything mentioned here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/672007/flickering-in-kde-plasma-5-4 the only thing that helps for a longer period of time is turning off compositing completely. I am unsure where to further look for the problem: Is it kwin? xorg? nouveau? All of them? Whatever? The logs I checked (xorg, syslog, dmesg etc.) contain nothing that I can make sense of. I'd appreciate any hint to where (and: what) to look (for) and which more specific information to collect ... [Bug 1518430] Re: liberty: ~busy loop on epoll_wait being called with zero timeout
I could confirm that I could observe this bug definitely on Liberty on following services: neutron-server, nova-conductor. I couldn't confirm that for other because it requires additional monitoring/debugging. Steps to reproduce for neutron-server: 1.Deploy new cloud. 2. Measure CPU and MEM usage by neutron-server and take a look on strace of any pid which is associated with RPC worker. 3. Create 200-400 networks with routers. 4. Spawn 1 vms (not at once, you could just spawn and delete them by 10-20 pcs). 5. Delete everything (networks, routers, vms). 6. Measure CPU/MEM usage and take a look on strace of neutron-server RPC worker. Expected behavior: Everything should be the same as at step 2 with non-significant changes in CPU/MEM. Observer behavior: Huge CPU load (1-2 cores), huge MEMORY load (6-7Gb) without doing anything useful at the moment ;) Stracing of RPC thread will show ~1k per second of EPOLL_WAITs with 0 timeout. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1518430 Title: liberty: ~busy loop on epoll_wait being called with zero timeout To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mos/+bug/1518430/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1404006] Re: grub2-themes-ubuntu-mate partially obscured submenus
Thank you for looking at this issue. I did have various issues with themeing grub's terminal. Being unsure am I brawling own inexperience or actual bugs I've opted for (in my mind) less damaging do-not-theme-terminal let-the-grub-apply-defaults. Package installer should consider /etc to be the place where admin/user puts own final overrides, hence my dislike of "vendor" provided GRUB_THEME in /etc/default/grub. On the other side, where should "vendor" put his default grub theme? Guided by example from /lib/plymouth/themes/ubuntu-logo/ubuntu-logo.grub it ended up being one of the plymouth's alternatives conf. I do agree that changing grub's theme as a responsibility should not belong to packages outside of grub2-themes-ubuntu-mate. [Bug 1570955] Re: hp-scan stops working if I run hp-info (several printer models)
** Description changed: I have: Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description: Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS Release: 14.04 Codename: trusty I downloaded hplip-3.16.3.run and executed it and it installed hplip. I add a USB printer (HP Photosmart B210), and then I run hp-scan and it scans properly. I can run hp-scan any number of times with no problem. Each time I run it I get this on dmesg: [101238.781550] Did not find alt setting 1 for intf 0, config 1 Then I run hp-info -i , I get all the printer info, 3 dmesg errors get generated: [101290.777189] Did not find alt setting 1 for intf 0, config 1 [101290.777686] Did not find alt setting 1 for intf 0, config 1 [101290.778184] Did not find alt setting 1 for intf 0, config 1 And after that, all subsequent calls to hp-scan fail. The first time I type hp-scan after having ran hp-info -i , it shows an error: Using device hpaio:/usb/Photosmart_Plus_B210_series?serial=CN09F1P57X05J9 Opening connection to device... error: SANE: Error during device I/O (code=9) And dmesg also prints: [101355.572440] Did not find alt setting 1 for intf 0, config 1 - All the subsequent calls to hp-scan will hang up for ever opening connection to device. and it prints the dmesg error: [101355.572440] Did not find alt setting 1 for intf 0, config 1 At this point I can only kill the process (hp-scan). The only way to make it work again is disconnecting the USB cable, and connecting it back in. But as soon as I run hp-info it goes bad again. The problem does not happen over network. Over network I can always scan and also run hp-info (even at the same time). I tested with 3.15.11 and 3.15.9 and got the same issue. I will go back a little bit more to bisect and post the results later on. - I got reports on the exact same problems on a Laserjet m1212 (over USB), and two deskjet 2132. + I got reports on the exact same problems on a Laserjet m1212 (over USB). + I originally got a report from two deskjet 2132 with the same problems, but I got a brand new 2130 and it works so I would assume the 2132 should work too and it might be a different problem. + They all print the dmesg error each time hp-info or hp-scan is executed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1570955 Title: hp-scan stops working if I run hp-info (several printer models) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/1570955/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
