[Bug 1536353] Re: [regression] Printer drivers install is broken as lsb package is not available anymore

2016-05-06 Thread Daniel Faulkner
The official Epson printer drivers (for a model XP-322) installed
correctly, but all prints stopped with the status "Filter failed". This
occurs with both the epson-inkjet-printer-escpr (1.6.5-1lsb3.2) and
epson-inkjet-printer-escpr (1.4.1-1lsb3.2) drivers from the Epson
website and those installed automatically by the Ubuntu printers utility
on Ubuntu version 16.04.

The driver printer-driver-escpr from the universe packages does however work
fine.
, if possible, changing the default printer driver in the printers utility
would prevent more people being affected if the official Epson drivers aren't
going to be fixed soon.

[Bug 1525800] Re: [SRU] ceilometer client error when create Alarm

Those errors are just from the restart. Sometimes it complains based on
if the threads get killed before they finish cleaning up. Try creating
the alarm now via a template and see if it works.

[Bug 1574729] Re: Audio/Video not in sync on M10/frieza

2016-05-06 Thread Oliver Grawert
i guess it is rather a device specific thing (you really dont want
-60 on a device where audio is already in sync) and shoulld go into
some device specific pulse config.

after all it is only a workaround though ... there must be something in
the drivers (video or audio) itself that makes it a requirement at all.

The status is that there is a patch ready since 23rd March

waiting for feedback from developers and/or for the patch to be merged.

[Bug 1488254]

2016-05-06 Thread Tim Jones
I've been using the patched version for the past couple of days, no
issues so far.

But, I'm not one of the developers and don't know this code base and
just because it *seems* to work doesn't mean it's correct yet. I'm just
going to continue with what works well enough for me at the moment, with
patience.

[Bug 1579135] Re: kernel BUG on snap disconnect from within a snap

2016-05-06 Thread Jamie Strandboge
I'm told home-consumer is https://github.com/ubuntu-
core/snappy/blob/master/integration-tests/data/snaps/home-consumer/ so
reproducing with a snap would be to checkout that branch, run 'snapcraft
snap .' then installing the resulting snap (eg, 'sudo snap install
/path/to/snap' adding --devmode if want complain mode).

[Bug 1579135] Re: kernel BUG on snap disconnect from within a snap

2016-05-06 Thread Jamie Strandboge
I cannot reproduce with the following:

$ mkdir /tmp/cache
$ tar -zxvf ./profiles.tgz
$ cd profiles
$ while /bin/true ; do sudo apparmor_parser --replace --write-cache -O
no-expr-simplify --cache-loc=/tmp/cache ./* ; done

The above apparmor_parser options are what snapd uses (see
interfaces/apparmor/apparmor.go).

$ cat /proc/version_signature
Ubuntu 4.4.0-21.37-generic 4.4.6

Paul, are you able to reproduce this issue when running the above on the
system in question? Perhaps you can also include tarballs for
/etc/apparmor.d and /etc/apparmor.d/cache?

[Bug 1577879] Re: File save as dialog doesn't switch to keyed in path anymore when pressing enter

2016-05-06 Thread ADFH
gvim does not do the same thing, and to create a new folder, it has
"Create Folder" button.

gedit DOES do the same thing, and to create a new folder, it has a "+"
button.

In the screenshot "example.png", you can see that the current folder is
"folder1" and I've typed in ../folder2 and pressed enter and it hasn't
switched to folder2, rather it's remained in the current folder.

This would seem to suggest the fact that it's not unique to Firefox and
therefore something to do with underlying library.

[Bug 1578369] Re: preseed user-password-crypted password cannot be used with d-i user-setup/encrypt-home boolean true option

2016-05-06 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
I don't believe this is a bug.

By default user-setup/encrypt-home is setup using ecryptfs and uses the
user plaintext password as the seed for the ecryptfs key generation.
That way plaintext password is used in pam stack to authenticate user
against shadow password, and used to derive decryption key to decrypt
encryptfs. Clearly shadow salted password cannot be used to derive/setup
ecryptfs encryption key, thus the two options are mutually exclusive.

Using plaintext password is imho bad, thus instead do the install with
crypted password, and setup user-home encryption post-install using
"ecryptfs-migrate-home" command http://blog.dustinkirkland.com/2011/02
/long-overdue-introduction-ecryptfs.html

Given above deficiency what would you expect from the installer?
Critical prompt - encryptfs home was requested, but cannot be configured
due to missing plain text password?

You also report another bug too w.r.t make-user question. Not sure what
needs fixing there.

[Bug 1558120] Re: Kernel can be oopsed using remap_file_pages

2016-05-06 Thread Colin Ian King
** Description changed:

- While faffing around with the deprecated system call remap_file_pages I
- was able to trigger an OOPs that can be reproduced every time.
+ [SRU][WILY][XENIAL]
+
+ [JUSTIFICATION]
+ Running stress-ng --remap 4 will trip an oops on the remap.
+
+ The bug is introduced by the mm/mmap.c changes in patch
+ d15bd6cdbb1c2080fb1fca0035e5af1994f4d14f - AUFS introduced a subtle bug
+ into remap_file_pages; calls to do_mmap_pgoff can lead to a change of
+ the vma->vm_file and so the vma_fput(vma) on the file is incorrect; we
+ should instead fput on the original file.
+
+ [FIX]
+ fput the original file rather than the vma->vm_file. Without the fix,
stress-ng --remap 4 will produce an oops in a few seconds, with the fix it is
rock solid.
+
+ [REGRESSION POTENTIAL]
+ This only changes the deprecated system call remap_file_pages which is not
used much and it is also deprecated, so it should be avoided by user space
applications anyhow.

[Bug 1574729] Re: Audio/Video not in sync on M10/frieza

2016-05-06 Thread Jim Hodapp
We could try to set this same property from media-hub since it sets up
the use of pulsesink in the GStreamer pipeline [1]. This would at least
take care of the mediaplayer-app video playback. We might be able to
accomplish something similar for the Oxide media pipeline but can't
comment on that part as I'm not familiar enough with it.

[Bug 1572698] Re: Slow speed and dropped connections with Realtek RTL8192CU-based wifi

2016-05-06 Thread Patrick Then
Ok, decided to install it, but noticed that the available 4.6 kernels
behind the link are all for Wily, while I've since switched to Xenial
(see comment #17), which still suffers from the same issue (with Kernel
4.4).

[Bug 1539506] Re: AttributeError: 'virDomain' object has no attribute 'fsFreeze

2016-05-06 Thread sean redmond
^^ As this does not match version >=1.2.5 - this looks to be a
requirement in the spec (https://github.com/openstack/nova-
specs/blob/master/specs/kilo/implemented/quiesced-image-snapshots-with-
qemu-guest-agent.rst)

I also could not find a reference to this API call (fsFreeze) in the
libvirt python packages on trusty.

# grep -i fsfreeze /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/libvirt.*

I can confirm that I can boot with this kernel on a C3.large instance.

If anyone else wants to verify this, the procedure is to boot one of the
failing instances with the Beta 2 AMIs and install the build (and
reboot).

The AppStream issue will happen with every error. AppStream would have
to run unconditionally, as APT keeps the old files around in case of

[Bug 1576726] Re: [SRU]network-manager

2016-05-06 Thread Jason Gerard DeRose
@seb128... I'll try to get some better debug info soon. Interestingly,
it only seem to happen with Intel 7260 WiFi cards (and not, for example,
with Intel 8260 WiFi cards).

So I'm not sure whether what we're seeing is actually a problem with
network-manager. I'm now kinda thinking it's more likely a kernel issue,
especially as other's haven't seen this problem.

Thanks!

[Bug 1576799] Re: Regression: 2:4.3.8+dfsg-0ubuntu0.14.04.2 Failed to Issue the StartTLS instruction

2016-05-06 Thread Marc Deslauriers
I don't think this is a regression. The Samba security update is now
more strict when validating TLS certs.

I'm not sure why it's using the ip address instead of the hostname,
that's probably a configuration issue.

If you want a workaround, you can try adjusting cert checking, see:

Complementary to comment #3, connections work fine on Trusty with LO
5.1.2.2 using native MySQL. It would appear the issue is with Xenial
only.

2016-05-06 Thread Portnov
Hi
Any updates please? This is pretty serious bug; host is unable to connect to
network after system startup. sudo service network-manager restart helps, but
it is not convenient to restart service manually after system startup...

[Bug 1578796] Re: 1.127.22 causes wifi instability on Intel N7260 chipset

Just to clarify, you want me to install the latest upstream kernel *and*
linux-firmware 1.127.22 to see if the problem still occurs or not? Or
just the latest upstream kernel?

[Bug 1578833] Re: pollinate should not run in containers and only for first boot

2016-05-06 Thread Dustin Kirkland 
** Description changed:

Booting a xenial cloud image in lxd shows that pollinate by far is the
  biggest bottleneck:

  $ systemd-analyze blame
- 2.756s pollinate.service
-656ms cloud-init-local.service
-598ms cloud-init.service
-509ms cloud-config.service
-393ms cloud-final.service
-147ms networking.service
+   2.756s pollinate.service
+    656ms cloud-init-local.service
+    598ms cloud-init.service
+    509ms cloud-config.service
+    393ms cloud-final.service
+    147ms networking.service
  [...]

This is the second boot, so cloud-init should not actually do anything
any more (it takes muuuch longer on the first boot).

pollinate should not run in containers at all, as containers take
randomness from the host. Also, for VMs it should only run for the first
boot. Both upstart and systemd save the random seed on shutdown and load
it at boot, which is a lot faster than pollinate.

  So pollinate.service should grow

- ConditionVirtualization=!container
- ConditionPathExists=!/var/lib/systemd/random-seed
+   ConditionVirtualization=!container
+   ConditionPathExists=!/var/lib/systemd/random-seed
+
+ == SRU ==
+
+ [IMPACT]
+ Some Xenial boots take longer than they should. Pollinate should only run
once, at first boot, and never in containers. And should never take longer
than 3 seconds.
+
+ [TEST CASE]
+ Boot a new Xenial instance. Ensure that pollinate runs the first time it
boots. You can check that in /var/log/syslog and ensure that
/var/cache/pollinate/seeded exists /var/cache/pollinate/log. Now reboot that
instance. Ensure that more, new entries do *not* show up.
+
+ [REGRESSION POTENTIAL]
+ The regression potential is important. We need to ensure that we don't
somehow *never* pollinate the first time.

[Bug 1578424] Re: demote virtualbox and reverse dependencies in yakkety

2016-05-06 Thread LocutusOfBorg
I also tried something like this:

-$(QUIET)$(APPEND) '$@' 'VBOX_GCC_fno-stack-protector ?= $(call
VBOX_GCC_CHECK_CC,-fno-stack-protector,)'
+$(QUIET)$(APPEND) '$@' 'VBOX_GCC_fno-stack-protector   := $(call
VBOX_GCC_CHECK_CC,-fno-stack-protector,)'
+$(QUIET)$(APPEND) '$@' 'VBOX_GCC_fno-stack-protector += $(call
VBOX_GCC_CHECK_CC,-fno-pie,)'

it adds the flag in the correct place (I guess where no stack protector
is needed, also no-pie is)

it fails with:
error: Missing # define g_kLdrRdrFileOps
RT_MANGLER(g_kLdrRdrFileOps)

[Bug 1576639] Re: memory threshold is too high

2016-05-06 Thread Olivier Tilloy
An approach similar to what we currently do in the browser has been
proposed for WebKit, as an alternative on configurations where memory
cgroups are not available, see
https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=155255.

However only MemFree is considered, and there are two (arbitrary) thresholds:
 - 300MB: non critical memory pressure
 - 100MB: critical memory pressure

I am going to experiment with this approach and will report back here.

I built a Xenial text kernel with the patch. The test kernel can be

Can you test this kernel and see if it resolves this bug?

[Bug 1578761] Re: editable mode crash

2016-05-06 Thread Barry Warsaw
pyparsing is a new dependency of the cherry pick for pip so it needs to
be dirtbiked too. However, pyparsing is using distutils.setup() and
that won't create the egg-info directory needed to produce the necessary
metadata. So pyparsing will need an SRU fix too.
