[Bug 1598316] [NEW] gtk2-engines-murrine desktop text shadow problem

2016-07-01 Thread makitso
Public bug reported:

Upgraded my xubuntu 16.04 system on 01 Jul 2016. The apt update
included an upgrade to gtk2-engines-murrine. However, after the upgrade
and boot, the any desktop text, folder, launcher, etc. had a problem
with the text and shadow being quite far apart.

[Bug 1594035] Re: unable to shut down the system after suspend / resume

2016-07-01 Thread Donald Pellegrino
As noted by @loyeyoung, a better work-around than the one in Comment #2
may be to disable swap rather than running with an encrypted home
directory and unencrypted swap as that state is a security liability.
For the case where hibernate depends on swap, hibernate would also need
to be disabled.

[Bug 1598313] [NEW] Files icon disappears from Launcher

2016-07-01 Thread Donald Pellegrino
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1. Files is not running. No Files windows are open.
2. Unlock Files from the Launcher - it is removed from the Launcher
3. Use the Ubuntu keyboard button to open the Dash
4. Type Files and hit enter to open a Files window
5. Observe that the Files icon for the new window appears on the Launcher
6. Observe that the Files icon then disappears from the Launcher a second later
without any actions having been taken by the user

Expected Behavior

Step 6 should not occur. When Files in run and a Files window is open,
then the Files icon should show on the Launcher with appropriate
indicator for the corresponding open window.

The test system did not exhibit this behavior before July 1, 2016. Some
updates were applied via aptitude on July 1, 2016. A recent update may
have triggered this bug.

[Bug 1598312] [NEW] Cannot scale AMD Turion CPU frequency. It runs on lowest 800MHz

2016-07-01 Thread Darek Nawrocki
Public bug reported:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/789096/cant-scale-frequencies-of-amd-
turion-cpu-it-always-jumps-to-lowest

The CPU does not scale frequency on kernel "4.2.0-41-generic
#48~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jun 24 17:09:15". The notebook behaves very
slow despite on Windows Vista it works great.

Cpufreq-info program shows that there is a limit on the frequency setting
between 800MHz and 800MHz. I tried to impose the frequency by setting the
"performance policy" or by setting the limit in /etc/default/cpufrequency, but
it does not work.
Next I tried to check the BIOS limits, because there are some suggestions that
some battery/power supply problems could cause the BIOS to set the limits on
CPU freq but it is not there.

The CPU freq scaling works good on 'linux-image-4.1.26-040126-generic'
kernel. It does not work on this kernel "4.2.0-41-generic" and "linux-
headers-4.2.0-38-generic". The current workaround is to switch off the
ACPI by "acpi=off" boot parameter. Using this setting the CPU frequency
scaling works but it makes the system single CPU core only.

Hardware: HP Compaq 6715B notebook with AMD Turion CPU TL-58 and
powernow-k8 cpufreq driver. I've heard some posts that on others HP
notebooks there are similar problems with the freq scaling.

[Bug 1598309] [NEW] The aplay command doesn't work

2016-07-01 Thread Bruno Nova
Public bug reported:

Running the "aplay" command inside a snap with the pulseaudio interface and the
"alsa-utils" package bundled doesn't work, even with snapd 2.0.10.
It throws this error:

ALSA lib conf.c:3750:(snd_config_update_r) Cannot access file
/usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf
ALSA lib pcm.c:2266:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM default
aplay: main:722: audio open error: No such file or directory

Maybe an "alsa" interface is needed, or the "pulseaudio" interface needs
to grant access to more things.

[Bug 1598308] [NEW] Remove sql-ledger from devel/yakkety

2016-07-01 Thread Emily Ratliff
Public bug reported:

Please remove sql-ledger source and binary packages from devel/yakkety

Rationale:
This should be removed from the Ubuntu archive because neither Ubuntu nor
Debian are actively maintaining this package. It is not tracking upstream -
latest upstream version is 3.2.1 and latest Debian and Ubuntu package releases
are 3.0.8. 3.2.0 was released six months ago.

It has open CVEs dating back to 2007 which "allows remote attackers to
read and overwrite arbitrary files, and execute arbitrary code".

The packaging note explicitly states that it is not receiving security
updates ("This package does not benefit from serious security support")
but the package deals with accounting and money which require a high
degree of security and trust.

[Bug 1596717] Re: Can't execute paplay, aplay, etc. even with pulseaudio interface

2016-07-01 Thread Bruno Nova
OK, I found what the problem is:
For pulseaudio to work (or at least paplay), the network plug/interface also
needs to be added.
Snapd 2.0.10+ is also needed.

Without the network plug, running paplay prints these messages to the
journal:

Jul 01 21:02:08 bruno-laptop audit[27684]: SECCOMP auid=4294967295 uid=1000
gid=1000 ses=4294967295 pid=27684 comm="paplay"
exe="/snap/tetris-em-racket/x1/usr/bin/pacat" sig=31 arch=c03e syscall=55
compat=0 ip=0x7fa4b5b3892a code=0x0

exe="/snap/tetris-em-racket/x1/usr/bin/pacat" sig=31 arch=c03e syscall=55
compat=0 ip=0x7fa4b5b3892a code=0x0

Adding the network plug fixes this.

So, this needs to be investigated.
The pulseaudio interface also needs some kind of local network access. But
giving it full network and Internet access is not a great idea.

I'll edit the bug description accordingly.

---

"aplay" still doesn't work.
It throws this error:

ALSA lib conf.c:3750:(snd_config_update_r) Cannot access file
/usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf
ALSA lib pcm.c:2266:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM default
aplay: main:722: audio open error: No such file or directory

I'll report this in another bug.

** Summary changed:

- Can't execute paplay, aplay, etc. even with pulseaudio interface
+ paplay doesn't work without the network interface

** Description changed:

+ Pulseaudio, or at least the "paplay" command, doesn't work without the

  According to
https://docs.racket-lang.org/gui/Windowing_Functions.html#%28def._%28%28lib._mred%2Fmain..rkt%29._play-sound%29%29
 , Racket uses the "aplay" command (or others) to play sound, but it isn't
available inside the snap.
  I tried bundling the alsa-utils package, but it throws an error when trying
to play a sound.

  Maybe the pulseaudio interface should grant access to these commands and
  everything else that is required?

** Description changed:

  Pulseaudio, or at least the "paplay" command, doesn't work without the

[Bug 1598295] [NEW] $GTK_IM_MODULE ignored after upgrade

2016-07-01 Thread Constantine
Public bug reported:

After upgrade trusty → xenial, Compose key stopped producing configured
through ~/.XCompose characters for GTK3 only apps. To be sure that its
the GTK problem, I created a simple GTK3 window with textbox, launched
it like:

$ GTK_IM_MODULE=xim XMODIFIERS=@im=none ./a

and the textbox produces wrong characters for Compose key. (the
variables are actually set globally, I wrote them here just for
clarity).

XCompose works fine for all other toolkit's apps, including GTK2 and Qt
ones.

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System
-> About Ubuntu

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Release:16.04

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or
by checking in Software Center
$ apt-cache policy libgtk-3-0
libgtk-3-0:
  Installed: 3.18.9-1ubuntu3
  Candidate: 3.18.9-1ubuntu3
  Version table:
 *** 3.18.9-1ubuntu3 500
500 http://ru.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) What you expected to happen

«Compose + - + space» would produce «— » in GTK3 apps.

4) What happened instead

«Compose + - + space» producing «~» in GTK3 apps.

[Bug 1597782] Re: Visolate crashes by just launching

2016-07-01 Thread Traumflug
I tried with OpenJDK 8, too, same result.

$ java -version
openjdk version "1.8.0_91"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_91-8u91-b14-0ubuntu4~16.04.1-b14)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.91-b14, mixed mode)

However, looking at bug #1597769, the JAR packages provided in the
Github repository version 3.0.1, version 3.1 and version 3.1.1 do work
with OpenJDK 8, so upgrading would be a solution for this bug.

[Bug 1378123] Re: unix_socket_abstract.sh triggers an AppArmor WARN

2016-07-01 Thread Tyler Hicks
I was able to hit this in 14.04 with linux-generic-lts-wily installed:

  $ cat /proc/version_signature
  Ubuntu 4.2.0-41.48~14.04.1-generic 4.2.8-ckt11

The 14.04 apparmor_parser doesn't support unix rules, so you need to
check out lp:apparmor, build libapparmor and the parser and the
unix_socket regression tests before using the reproducer in the bug
description.

[Bug 1589229] Re: Custom sounds for incoming messages are not supported

2016-07-01 Thread Pat McGowan
So while its easy to add a Custom message received option similar to ringtone
there are a couple issues.
First we need to either enforce a restriction on the size of the audio file,
provide a way to truncate it for the user, or limit the playback time for the
sound. Otherwise an entire sonata could play on a message.
There is also a bug where we delete all custom sounds from the dir when a new
one is selected, so we should either make two subdirs or be smarter if either
is in use.
