[Bug 1605618] [NEW] Monitor on Lenovo dock not detected after Suspend

2016-07-22 Thread S Birbalta
Public bug reported:

What I do:
Lenovo x250 is connected to Lenovo dock where an additional monitor is
connected. I only use the external.
Then I close the lid, take the laptop off the dock and use it a few minutes
later just fine.
Then I return back home, connect the laptop to the dock again with closed lid.
I press the dock's power button to wake it up. External monitor does not react.
When I open the lid, the internal monitor is on, I can not switch to the
external monitor in system settings, it is not detected in "xrandr --query".

[Bug 1203276] Re: cups-browsed memory usage unacceptable

2016-07-22 Thread Ivo Straka
Here is an upstream bug with a patch:

https://bugs.linuxfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1365

However, it is for the current revision, so it will probably appear in
1.10.1 and I am not sure how to deliver this patch to the Ubuntu package
cups-browsed 1.8.3-2ubuntu3. Basically, I don't know how packaging for
Ubuntu works, and I couldn't find the source specific for
1.8.3-2ubuntu3. So, I took the source of 1.8.3, patched it and attached
is a diff file.

[Bug 1575437] Re: Asus ZenBook UX501VW frequently hangs during boot under Ubuntu 16.04

2016-07-22 Thread Andrew Carlson
I just tried an install with the 16.04.01 image and I'm seeing the same
issue.

I tried adding the nouveau.modset=0 parameter without much luck, but
it's possible I'm just setting it in the wrong way. Here is what I
tried.

1) When the install grub menu appears the default "try ubuntu..." option is
selected.
2) I select 'e' to edit this option.
3) I add the "nouveau.modset=0" parameter on the linux line right before "quiet
splash".
4) I then press escape and select the "try ubuntu" option.

Am I setting this incorrectly?

Also I can report that some of the time it gets all the way to the
desktop UI with or without the parameter change. When it gets all the
way to the desktop screen the fan suddenly turns up to full blast. Most
of the time I just get stuck on the ubuntu loading screen.

[Bug 1568729] Re: divide error: 0000 [#1] SMP in task_numa_migrate - handle_mm_fault

2016-07-22 Thread Stefan Bader
The whole discussion seems to be going back and forth and is rather confusing.
On one side there is the ceph discussion where Stefan Priebe indeed mentions
that he has many more patches in his tree. On the other side there is the LKML
discussion which ends in GregKH getting exactly one patch submitted for 4.4 and
4.6 (https://lkml.org/lkml/2016/7/12/297).
This is the backport of the last of the 3 patches in comment #11. I am not sure
whether Peter Zijlstra just as well got confused in the end or it turned out
that in older kernels one only needed the last one. From the references in the
patches, the last one refers to the second and the second refers to the first.
Practically the last one works around certain values becoming 0 in certain
corner cases. Which causes the divide errors. So maybe it is enough.

As for the last test kernel done by Tim: although is answer when I asked
about what was in there sounded like it might be the same set, I am
starting to doubt that from the time-line. That kernel was done in April
and all three patches I had were 4.7-rc1 or later which looks to be from
May. So I cannot really believe that those were in discussion back then.

So what I would like to propose: I created a PPA and uploaded a kernel
with just the last patch applied
(https://launchpad.net/~smb/+archive/ubuntu/xenial/+packages). This is
the state that is queued upstream for 4.4.x longterm (but not yet
released). Someone who can see the issue should actually test this
kernel. Regardless of any reports on the ceph list. Because if this does
not fix the problem this should be discussed upstream.

[Bug 1421923] Re: No notifications for new mails

2016-07-22 Thread Alberto Mardegan
Hi all! I made some progress on this. :-)

You can test the account-polld package from my personal phablet PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~mardy/+archive/ubuntu/phablet/+packages

I can see that now account-polld is emitting the notifications, however
there must be something wrong with Dekko's notification client because
the notification is not delivered to the user, and the log files from
the notification client grow huge, containing just the line "STILL
RUNNING" repeated thousand of times:

phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ ls -l
~/.cache/upstart/untrusted-helper-push-helper\:146918*
-rw-r- 1 phablet phablet 523785 lug 22 13:52
/home/phablet/.cache/upstart/untrusted-helper-push-helper:1469184737566095:dekko.dekkoproject_dekko-notify_0.6.20.log

/home/phablet/.cache/upstart/untrusted-helper-push-helper:1469187535926510:dekko.dekkoproject_dekko-notify_0.6.20.log

Here's an extract of the D-Bus traffic, taken with dbus-monitor:
http://paste.ubuntu.com/20442458/

I believe that the problem is with Dekko's push client, because if I
replace it with the simple script used by the GMail webapp, I get the
notification.

[Bug 1605603] [NEW] Sticky-edges toggle in system settings doesn't change behaviour

2016-07-22 Thread Daniel Llewellyn
Public bug reported:

On a fresh install of 16.04 with a dual-monitor system. The sticky-edges
feature is turned-on by default and toggling the switch in system-
settings->displays has no effect (the sticky edges remain turned-on). I
have verified with someone who upgraded their 15.10 system which had the
sticky-edges turned-off prior to upgrade and they reported that the
toggle has no effect on their system (the sticky edges remain turned-
off).

Therefore I conclude that the toggle is broken and the issue is
unrelated to the current-state of the setting. Both with the setting
previously set to enabled and disabled, toggling the switch does not
change the behaviour.

[Bug 1599561] Re: Ubuntu 16.04.01 kdump: IP prefix is missing in the directory name after first dump during kdump over ssh.

2016-07-22 Thread Adam Conrad
Hello bugproxy, or anyone else affected,

Accepted makedumpfile into xenial-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/makedumpfile/1:1.5.9-5ubuntu0.1 in
a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1584304] Re: "folder view": icon placement lost after reboot

2016-07-22 Thread Amnon Yekutieli
More: when I tried just now to put widgets on my empty desktop, the
widget menu seems to think that there are widgets out there: it claims I
have 5 (!!) "digital clock" and 5 "pager".

Also, my chosen wallpaper is not active (but it is remembered in the
menu).

So - a lot is broken.

[Bug 1335492] Re: [4.11.8] Desktop icons rearrange on each login

2016-07-22 Thread era
I did a fresh reinstall of 16.04 some weeks ago. Icons are moving again on boot.
I have tree monitors connected and icons are moving to leftmost.
I started with Xubuntu version 15.04 and had same problem.
On version 15.10 I get around problem by adjusting icon size.
On version 16.04 this trick is not working.

[Bug 1605493] Re: USN-3040-1: MySQL vulnerabilities partially applies to MariaDB too

2016-07-22 Thread Otto Kekäläinen
The 5.5 series update for 14.04 is now available.

Please use git-buildpackage to fetch and build from the ubuntu-14.04
branch at http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-
mysql/mariadb-5.5.git/log/?h=ubuntu-14.04

The repository uses pristine-tar, so there is no need to separately
download the sources. You can just check the signature/SHA1SUM directly
from the git-buildpackage generated tarball.

Test builds finished successfully at https://launchpad.net/~mysql-
ubuntu/+archive/ubuntu/mariadb/+builds?build_text=&build_state=all

[Bug 1350598] Re: AppArmor policy compile improvements

2016-07-22 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Saying that the update “may take several minutes” is, I think, probably
not an effective solution to the problem of people powering off the
phone because it looks like it’s stuck. It doesn’t matter how long they
expect it to take: if nothing on the screen is changing, it would still
look like it’s stuck.

I don’t know why Plymouth can show changing text but the Ubuntu Touch
startup screen can’t, but if that will continue to be the case, I guess
fixing bug 1385410 is the only way to provide the necessary reassurance.

[Bug 1605571] [NEW] apt install --no-install-recommends fcitx-bin, breaks dead keys

2016-07-22 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
Public bug reported:

Test case: remove everything related to fcitx.
Then run: apt install --no-install-recommends fcitx-bin
Then login with some locale that uses dead keys, for example the Greek locale.
Then type e.g. ";"+"a". It's supposed to show "ά", but instead it shows "´α".

At that point, fcitx isn't running, yet `im-config -a` reports that it's the
selected input method.
$ env | egrep '_IM|XMOD'
CLUTTER_IM_MODULE=xim
QT_IM_MODULE=xim
XMODIFIERS=@im=fcitx
QT4_IM_MODULE=xim
GTK_IM_MODULE=xim

If fcitx-bin is installed along with all its recommended dependencies, then
fcitx is running normally and the issue described above doesn't occur anymore.
At that point, the environment variables are:
$ env | egrep '_IM|XMOD'
CLUTTER_IM_MODULE=xim
QT_IM_MODULE=fcitx
XMODIFIERS=@im=fcitx
QT4_IM_MODULE=fcitx
GTK_IM_MODULE=fcitx

At present I've only tested with the MATE desktop environment.
It also happens with the MATE live CD, as fcitx-bin is indeed preinstalled
there without its recommended dependencies.

Re: [Bug 798414] Re: update-initramfs should produce a more helpful error when there isn't enough free space

2016-07-22 Thread Alan Burgess
Hi Gordon,

I've had this same issue for many months and have come to the conclusion
that there is no expertise within Ubuntu or if there is then no one who
is prepared to fix it and get it out to the community.

I have reluctantly had to revert 42 machines back to Windows. Windows 10
now which is miles better than XP and until Ubuntu has a professional
organisation behind it.

I'm leaving Ubuntu 14.04 on this one unit just to see it this issue ever
gets fixed.

Its been suggested we give Fedora a go and ditch any ideas of ever using
Ubuntu.

If you have any experience (good or bad) of Fedora then please share.

Many thanks

Alan
