[Bug 1607217] Re: QSysInfo doesn't work properly with AppArmor confinement

2016-07-28 Thread Lorn Potter
QSystemInfo has quite a few areas in the system it tries to access
information from, read only. (We've tried hard to keep it read only
access)

Just adding AppArmor to this to hopefully get some comment about this.

I could come up with a policy that would allow QSystemInfo to work, but
it would be up to the security guys to decide whether they would allow
it.

There are a few related bugs regarding wrong or missing information in
QSystemInfo.

[Bug 1088081] Re: udev rules make it impossible to deactivate lvm volume group with vgchange -an

2016-07-28 Thread Josip Rodin
I also see this race condition happen often when I open up and
manipulate nested LVM devices.

For example, an LV is partitioned and one of the partitions inside is a
PV. A kpartx -a is run to activate the partitions, vgimportclone is run
to rename the VG inside that nested PV, and as MatthewParslow said above
the old nested VG device nodes are always left behind.

After cleaning those up manually, a sequence of two commands is run,
vgchange -a n on the renamed VG and kpartx -d on the top-level LV. It
usually works (it wins the race with udev vgchange -a y), but sometimes
it doesn't.

Maybe this is the reason? (solution inside)
https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubuntu/comments/4v3ft4/why_does_ubuntu_1604_lts_use_lot_of_ram/d5v4q0f

According to the post, 16.04 preloads programs in ram, and Evolution is
responsible for it. I'm not sure if this is true or not though.

2016-07-28 Thread Victor Kulikov
Hi!
I have recently bought ubuntu pc stick PCG02U from MeLE, and struggling with it
since then.
It have z3735f atom processor and 32G eMMC drive.
Originally it was going with ubuntu desktop 14.04 and 3.16 kernel, but it had
problems with some sporadic eMMC errors under high drive load.
Then I have upgraded it to ubuntu 14.04.4 with 3.19 kernel, and eMMC errors
seems to be gone (not sure though), but now I faced freezes.
It have never freezed while being in use, but after I leave it running for
about 6 hours or more, I always find is freezed then. Monitor doesn't show any
signal (guess cause it gets freezed in sleep) and no reaction on keyboard and
mouse options.
after reboot I see:
[ 7110.326234] RTL8723BS: nolinked power save enter
[ 7171.775617] RTL8723BS: nolinked power save leave
[ 7173.461854] RTL8723BS: nolinked power save enter
[ 7234.832616] RTL8723BS: nolinked power save leave
etc
stops at some point of time, and normal boot messages then in kernel.log

Have tested 16.04 with original kernel then, and with upgraded to 4.7.0
kernel, all the same.

Trying intel_idle.max_cstate=1 option now but not much time have passed
to see wether it helped. Will report it later.

[Bug 1607240] Re: Unity8 default mouse wheel speed is 7.0 (it should be 1.0)

2016-07-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

  Ubuntu 16.10 + proposed
  Xmir 2:1.18.4-1ubuntu4

wheel mouse scrolling is too fast, tried with firefox and geany.

run firefox on mir scroll up/down some random long page using the mouse
  wheel
+
+ TEST CASE:
+
+ 1. env MIR_CLIENT_INPUT_RECEIVER_REPORT=log mir_demo_client_egltriangle --
--desktop_file_hint=unity8
+ 2. Roll your mouse wheel over it and watch the log
+
+ Expected: vscroll values of +1/-1
+ Observed: vscroll values of +7/-7
+
+ WORKAROUND:
+
+ System Settings > Mouse & Touchpad >
+ Slide the second (unlabelled) slider all the way left, and then one notch
right.
+
+ Turns out that unlabelled slider is the wheel scroll speed. Setting it
+ one notch from the left correctly reduces the wheel speed from 7.0 to
+ 1.0 as Mir clients expect.

2016-07-28 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it

[Bug 1604704] Re: [regression] GTK apps hang for a long time on start-up under Xmir (and less under native Mir) failing to find dbus

2016-07-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Confirmed in all cases it's just that the X11/Xmir apps can't detect the
session bus address of the login (which is on a different TTY BTW).
Forcing DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS solves the problem.

Here are some stack traces of the hangs:

[Bug 1604872] Re: Apps can't connect to the user's session bus, even though it exists

2016-07-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Even with the fix GTK apps under Xmir are hung trying to connect to the
wrong dbus address. Moved that to bug 1604704.

[Bug 1603576] Re: release-upgrader shows that Xenial is still in development & doesn't mention it's LTS

2016-07-28 Thread Erick Brunzell
This looks just fine. There was no need to even run update-manager -d
-c, just booted Trusty, checked for updates, and after applying all
available updates I was notified of Xenial being available. Next screen
shows nothing about being in development. We don't mention that Xenial
is LTS but we never have and I don't think that's needed.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1604704 ***

I'm making this a duplicate of bug 1604704 now which is clearer.

The fix for bug 1604872 has not solved it.

** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 1604872
Apps can't connect to the user's session bus, even though it exists

** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1604704

under native Mir) failing to find dbus

[Bug 1591115] Re: Gnome Software catalog entry missing for FlightGear

2016-07-28 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

- The FlightGear package cannot be installed using the Gnome Software
- application because it's missing the needed metadata.
+ Impact
+ ==
+ The FlightGear package cannot be installed using the Gnome Software
application.
+
+ Because the app icons were being installed to a non-standard location,
+ the .xpm icon was being used instead by the .desktop. That's a low-
+ resolution icon and is invalid for appstream.
+
+ This was fixed in Debian and in yakkety by correcting the icon install
+ locations and dropping the obsolete .xpm and .menu, but for xenial a
+ more minimal fix of just correcting the icon install is provided in case
+ someone uses the .xpm or .menu.
+
+ https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/flightgear/1:2016.2.1+dfsg-6
+
+ Test Case
+ =
+ 1. Open the Software app in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.
+ 2. Search for "flight" or "flightgear"
+ 3. Do you see the FlightGear app?
+
+ Regression Potential
+
+ The only thing changed is the icon install locations. They were being
installed to the top level directory /usr/share/icons/ instead of to the
standard /usr/share/icons/hicolor/ . A bonus is that the 128x128 high
resolution app icons are being installed now too.

** Changed in: flightgear (Ubuntu Xenial)

2016-07-28 Thread mtvoid
I have tried that earlier. In my case, I can set Internal Mic, Headset
Mic, or Headphone Mic as the Capture source. The hiss does not go away
when it is set to Internal or Headset Mic. When I set it to Headphone
Mic, it stops, but so does all sound output, so it does not work for me.

[Bug 1313539] Re: [DisplayPort] monitor shows black screen and "no input signal" after turning the monitor off and on manually

2016-07-28 Thread Martin Blais
I'm also experiencing this problem.
I had the following configuration:

MacbookPro 8,1 13" laptop (2011)
Dell UltraSharp U2715H LED monitor
Ubuntu 14.04
Mini-Displayport (computer) to Displayport (monitor) connector

I had those annoying 2-3 second unpredictable intermittent blanks,
driving me crazy.

I used to have the problem with a Dell 24in monitor 2408WFP as well (same
computer).
I figured it was something to do with the monitor and bought the new monitor
(since we needed a second one anyhow).

But the problem persisted with the U2715H.

I figured it might be something to do with the computer (anecdotally it seemed
to occur more often when it heats up, though I'm not certain).
I needed to change that old computer anyhow, so I bought an Intel NUC to
replace the laptop.

New configuration:
Intel NUC NUC6i5SYH w/ 32GM of RAM
Dell UltraSharp U2715H LED monitor
Ubuntu 16.04
Mini-Displayport (computer) to Displayport (monitor) connector (same cable).

Lo and behold... same problem!

All that leaves is
- the cable, or
- the software.

Now I just got myself an HDMI to HDMI cable to the Intel NUC.
Just began testing. Hopefully the problem will be gone.

Happy to test again later if someone fixes the bug--contact me
