[Bug 1441325] Re: Sound plays randomly or not at all
I do use SoundEffect and nowadays it seems to work fine. Not sure which OTA fixed the issue. Only problem I noticed and others who use the app, is the change in the sound volume after several clicks. But I believe there's another bug for that. So this bug seems to be fixed for me. [Bug 1543754] Re: [MIR] barbican, python-pykmip
I reviewed barbican version 1:2.0.0-0ubuntu1; this shouldn't be considered a full audit, but rather a quick gauge of maintainability. Barbican appeared to be developed to professional standards but it feels like it's still making larger architectural decisions and I'm not sure who the consumers of Barbican are supposed to be. There's more than the usual amount of TODO notes. It's nice to know the developers have thought through their goals enough to add notes to the future but it gives the impression that there's a lot of changes, perhaps changes that will influence consumers. I couldn't tell if Barbican is intended for use only by OpenStack services or if it is intended for use by the applications and management infrastructure that individual tenants would use. I couldn't tell if Barbican is actually intended to be used on systems without hardware security modules to provide backing storage. There is a simple_crypto_plugin that provides much of the functionality of the HSM wrappers but the docstring for the class indicates that it's "insecure". This simple_crypto_plugin (intends) to store all secrets in the databases using a key hardcoded in the sources or a key in /etc/barbican/barbican.conf -- which also appears to be hard-coded in our installation, rather than generated at install or first run. crypto.py SYMMETRIC_ALGORITHMS, SYMMETRIC_KEY_LENGTHS, and ASYMMETRIC_KEY_LENGTHS -- includes vastly unsafe DES, vastly unsafe 64 bit length symmetric keys, and unsafe 1024 bit length asymmetric keys. Secrets are documented to be stored with per-tenant encryption keys but I did not see a way for the tenants to supply the decryption keys; those per-tenant keys are probably stored in the database and protected solely by the kek configured in barbican.conf. Access to secrets within a tenant's storage can apparently be scoped using ACLs to any keystone-ids, but I didn't see any documentation or recommendation that e.g. user services should have their own keystone authentication mechanisms, nor how it would be accomplished. This is definitely a grey area. - Will future modifications cause compatibility problems? - This secret storage is best considered "obfuscation" rather than "encrypted". If all the keys are available in the sources or a configuration file, no amount of intermediate steps makes them safe. Perhaps this is why the simple_crypto_plugin is labeled "insecure", perhaps secrets are only stored privately when using an HSM. If an HSM is the only safe way to store secrets, why even have an "insecure" mode? So while this code looks professionally written I'm concerned that it may give a false sense of safety when storing keys and it may not have matured to the point of API or storage stability yet. I'd be more worried about promoting barbican to main for an LTS release; we still have a few releases for it to mature, so the risk doesn't feel overwhelming. So, do we still want barbican? [Bug 1607937] Re: font viewer starred from dash: Unknown option --gapplication-service
Nice catch, Jeremy. Haven't tested (at least not yet), but given the error message the OP found in /var/log/syslog, that's most certainly it. OTOH, other changes seems to consist of minor bug fixes and translations updates, so personally, and since there are no depencency issues involved, I still think this proposed backport makes sense. ** Description changed: [Impact] While gnome-font-viewer can be started from command line, it fails to start via the .desktop file. As can be seen in comment #3, it seems to be related to DBus somehow. - The problem is not present in version 3.20.2-1 in yakkety, and since - there is no obvious single commit in the upstream source which could be - patched, the proposal is to backport the yakkety version as an SRU. It's - built in this PPA: + The problem is not present in version 3.20.2-1 in yakkety. Probably it + was fixed via this commit: + + https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-font-viewer/commit/?id=acf919c + + The NEWS in 3.20.0 and 3.20.2 can be found here: + + https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-font-viewer/tree/NEWS + + Considering that other upstream changes seem to consist of a few minor + bug fixes and translation updates, 3.20.2-1 might be considered a + suitable microrelease to be backported. Consequently the proposal is to + backport the yakkety version as an SRU. It's built in this PPA: https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/ubuntu/font-viewer and there are no runtime dependency blockers. [Test Case] Try to start gnome-font-viewer from the Dash and find that the launch fails. After having installed the proposed upload, starting the application from the Dash works fine. [Regression Potential] gnome-font-viewer is an independent tool, which doesn't affect other parts of the system. Hence the regression risk should be low. [Bug 874535] Re: Volume Slider Jumps, due to rapidly changing hardware jack sense state
Hi, I have had the same issue after installing Ubuntu 16.04. I have tried the fix from comment #31 and it didn't work for me. However, as soon as I plug my headphone into the front panel headphone plug, the annoying issue disappeared, and the popping up comes back if headphone is unplugged. Now I unplugged my rear speaker's plug, and no popping up at all. Additionally, when I adjust the "Sound Setting", I was unable to hear the Test Sound if I try to play sound from Digital Output (S/PDIF). Not sure if this is relevant. Ubuntu gurus, perhaps the issue links to the audio plug scan or config? Thanks in advance. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/874535 Title: Volume Slider Jumps, due to rapidly changing hardware jack sense state To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/874535/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1604608] Re: ipv6 client causes errors in twisted.web
What is not addressed by this patch is that twisted assumes that if it is given a hostname, then the user clearly means IPv4. The web client setup is not in the correct order, it should be: 1) resolve the hostname 2) iterate through the available IP addresses (probably preferring ipv6, like the rest of linux), trying each one until success, or end-of-list 2a) create the AF_INET/AF_INET6 socket based on the address family of the current trial IP. 2b) connect. Today, it creates the socket based on the name it's given (ipv4 address, ipv6 address, or "huh... hostname, let's try ipv4") and then resolves it. The other option would be to create an AF_INET6 socket, and if it turns out that it's an IPv4 address, change it to the compatible ipv6 address of ":::192.168.1.1" or such. Note that if the app then calls getsockname() on the socket, it will see the ipv6-form, and may be confused. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1604608 Title: ipv6 client causes errors in twisted.web To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/twisted/+bug/1604608/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Gunnar, I suspect this is fixed with https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome- font-viewer/commit/?id=acf919c Could you test to see if that commit fixes this bug? [Bug 1600759] Re: Kernel crashes
** Description changed: Recently, Ubuntu moved to kernel 4.4.x. On my ASUS X751L, this results in my LVDS+external VGA displays to regularly go to sleep/energy saving mode (even when being actively used) or to "scramble". As a consequence, I reverted to kernel 4.2.0-35-generic. This worked very well until I dist-upgraded last thursday. Now, the computer crashes regularly, notably when it is (xscreensaver-)locked (mostly while executing the "molecule" (OpenGL) screensaver). I'm not sure if the crash occurs because of kernel, xscreensaver or an mplayer script I run with cron to play a beep every hour (don't ask why...). This is a critical crash, so I assume there is a security issue behind... [Bug 1472832] Re: Suspend issue with Dell Venue 11 Pro 7140
RussianNeuroMancer, the scope of the upstream report is at https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=102281#c0 . The scope mentions nothing about suspend. The report here in Launchpad is scoped to a suspend issue for the original reporter and their hardware. So, that's fine people talk about suspend elsewhere in that report, but it's not addressing its scope. That's great you found a patch that addresses your issue. However, for this report, any patch fix results, test results, etc. would need to be tested by the original reporter for it to move forward, because that is who filed it. Unfortunately, you insisting you have the same hardware, and your problem is addressed by a patch doesn't change anything for this report. Simply put, folks who are interested in having their issue solved as quickly as possible, and help out file a report themselves. One who wants to delay their own issue, drowns out the original reporter of another report, doesn't file a report themselves, and argues with folks in the Ubuntu community who provide advice. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1472832 Title: Suspend issue with Dell Venue 11 Pro 7140 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1472832/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1607684] Re: wifi networks not remembered correctly (ubuntu touch, bq M10)
Also, probably related, I just discovered through an irc conversation on #ubuntu-touch (thanks Mister_Q) that using the bq flash tool (which I did to fix an unbootable system) and selecting 'format and download' (which I also did), would have deleted the imei partition. Quite possible, seeing as the serial number displayed in the 'about' section shows "0123456789ABCDEF". Apparently it could also cause my other problem of the tablet not recognizing or outputting to HDMI monitors via a micro-hdmi to hdmi cable. Although... that doesn't explain why the wifi problem has been seen before, or why there's plenty of other reports of the M10 not outputting to displays (at least not reliably). - see http://askubuntu.com/questions/762148/bq-m10-ubuntu-touch-micro-hdmi-not-outputting-to-tv for example. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1607684 Title: wifi networks not remembered correctly (ubuntu touch, bq M10) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1607684/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1593124] Re: Add proper palm detection support for MS Precision Touchpad
I installed kernel from proposed today: $ uname -a Linux delllap-16 4.4.0-34-generic #53-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jul 27 16:06:39 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux On Dell Precision 5510, I don't see any improvement while using the synaptics client. I especially still have the symptom that the cursor flies to the bottom of the screen in a seemingly random way. The "disable while typing" feature is the only thing that really helps, but if you use that, then you go crazy because, when you stop typing, you have to stop and wait a second or two in order to use the touchpad again. I can't find any settings for the Palm features that make a noticeable difference. The synaptics documentation is pretty vague on the numbers and their meaning, but i've tried all kinds of variations like $ synclient -l | grep Palm PalmDetect = 1 PalmMinWidth= 15 PalmMinZ= 10 $ synclient -l | grep Palm PalmDetect = 1 PalmMinWidth= 5 PalmMinZ= 50 It looks like this latter one means any touch wider than a finger counts as a palm, but I still see the cursor thrashing about wildly while I move my lower hand and brush the keyboard. The most horrible element in this is that, if I'm typing while looking at a book, sometimes the cursor will jump to a new position, a section will get highlighted, and then it is obliterated by the next thing I type. I will try with libinput, but I don't really want to because I have to give up a lot of features I depend on from day to day. After which I ran 'hwe-support-status --show-replacements' and saw the following: bdmurray@clean-precise-amd64:~$ hwe-support-status Your Hardware Enablement Stack (HWE) is supported until April 2017. bdmurray@clean-precise-amd64:~$ hwe-support-status --show-replacements linux-generic-lts-trusty linux-image-generic-lts-trusty This seems odd to me given that the replacement packages are already installed. bdmurray@clean-precise-amd64:~$ apt-cache policy linux-generic-lts-trusty linux-generic-lts-trusty: Installed: 3.13.0.92.83 Candidate: 3.13.0.92.83 Version table: *** 3.13.0.92.83 0 500 http://mirrors.cat.pdx.edu/ubuntu/ precise-updates/main amd64 Packages 500 http://mirrors.cat.pdx.edu/ubuntu/ precise-security/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status On the plus side update-manager itself doesn't mention anything about the packages being out of date, likely because hwe-support-status does not exit 10. ** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Low Status: New ** Tags: precise trusty ** Tags added: precise trusty ** Changed in: update-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1607983 Title: hwe-support-status --show-replacements shows replacements that are installed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/1607983/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1607983] Re: hwe-support-status --show-replacements show replacements that are installed
--show-replacements indicates that it "show what packages need installing to be supported", so this (print installed packages) doesn't seem like desired behavior. ** Summary changed: - hwe-support-status --show-replacements show replacements that are installed + hwe-support-status --show-replacements shows replacements that are installed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1607983 Title: hwe-support-status --show-replacements shows replacements that are installed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/1607983/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
