[Bug 1615750] Re: package samba-common 2:4.3.9+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2016-08-24 Thread L. P. Luigi Espenlaub
I should add I was having trouble installing Samba on this three
computer, two printer home LAN [a Dell printer on a win10 machine
scotched the more simple option.].

On this particular Ubuntu machine I had 14.04, and in the middle of this
thought perhaps taking advantage of the 16.04 upgrade might improve
things.

Should have known better, because it was while the list of changes was flying
by is when apt-port poped the Samba error message that opened this bug. [Wish I
had the exact wording.]

The upgrade program at the end reported it was aborting because it failed to
fetch
Http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/libc/libcgi-pm-perl_4.26-1_all.deb,
 libcgi-pm-perl_0.77-1build1_amd64.deb, and libcgi-pm-fast-per1_2.10-1_all.deb]
and returned Ubuntu to its original state, however that original state was
14.04 not 16.04 which is identified on boot.

I opened bug #1615771 about the failure to fetch three packages from
/libcgi-pm-perl/. I have no idea whether they are pertinent to this bug
or vice versa.

I'm learning how this site works as well, and just noticed there is a
bug attachment list over there on the right. Can I assume they have been
read and do not provide any good clues.

Thank you for pursuing this confusing state. If you need both snb.conf
files or any screen shots of how Smb4k is set up on this machine or
anything else that will clarify things for you please ask.

[Bug 1616742] [NEW] xdiagnose does nothing in Wayland

2016-08-24 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

What happens
===
1. Try Ubuntu GNOME 16.10 Beta on a computer using open source graphics drivers
(Intel is recommended).
2. On the login screen, select your user name. Before entering your password,
click the gear button and choose "GNOME on Wayland". Enter your password and
log in.
3. Try to run xdiagnose.
4. Nothing happens

What I expected
===
1. xdiagnose could be adapted to analyze and report issues with Wayland
2. xdiagnose could explain why it doesn't work on Wayland
3. Otherwise, it would be nice if xdiagnose wouldn't show up in the Activities
Overview when Wayland is running but that's more complicated. (Maybe
XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP could be expanded to add Wayland as a string and
xdiagnose.desktop could add NotShowIn=Wayland)

** Affects: xdiagnose (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1616740] [NEW] Revert removing gnome-maps from ubuntu-gnome-desktop

2016-08-24 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

Impact
==
Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 included gnome-maps by default.
Ubuntu GNOME 16.04.1 did not but those upgrading from 15.10 or 16.04 still have
gnome-maps installed.
Now that gnome-maps is working again, for consistency, we should undo the
removal of gnome-maps from the ubuntu-gnome-desktop metapackage (see bug
1602035 for the removal).

Test Case
=
1. From the Ubuntu GNOME 16.04.1 live image (or from Ubuntu GNOME clean
installed after 16.04.1's release), install the update to ubuntu-gnome-desktop.
gnome-maps should be automatically installed.

2. Check to see if gnome-maps shows up on

[Bug 1615771] Re: fetching libcgi files in wrong directory prevents 14.04 to 16.04 upgrade

2016-08-24 Thread L. P. Luigi Espenlaub
Apport-bug opened Bug #1615750 open in the Ubuntu samba package: package
samba-common 2:4.3.9+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.2 project, somewhere around the
midpoint of the upgrade process.

Do the functions of the three libcgi-pm-perl files referenced above have
anything to do with the samba-common package?

If so please make that comment on Bug #1615750 so that they are aware of the
dependency.

If not, what function do these files relate to? Just for my learning curve.

[Bug 1616735] [NEW] bcmwl-kernel-source 6.30.223.248+bdcom-0ubuntu0.1: bcmwl kernel module failed to build, screen randomly freezes

2016-08-24 Thread vipul.bhokal
Public bug reported:

This problem started after I upgraded to the 16.04 Xenial Stack. I got a
message "1404_HWE_EOL" and the ubuntu wiki page on the same suggested upgrading
to the new stack. With the previous stack, random screen freezes happened,
while using wifi, so I thought wifi drivers might be faulty, but now it has
started happening while using wired LAN also.
Ubuntu Release: 14.04.5 LTS

The root cause is a missing dependency after installing the Xenial LTS

apt install libwayland-egl1-mesa-lts-xenial

following in ~/.xsession-errors:

[Bug 1616707] Re: SRU: New upstream bugfix release (3.18.4 and 3.10.4)

2016-08-24 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

  Impact
  ==
  gnome-maps has a new upstream bugfix release for all supported versions.

  The new release downloads a service.json file from GNOME that indicates
  the current preferred map tile server. (This is useful in case of
  provider changes as happened with bug 1602035). In the previous bugfix
  release, all requests for tiles went through a GNOME.org proxy which
  introduced noticeable lag.

  The other change is that the Mapbox attribution overlay logo is now
- transparent instead of being embedded in a gray rectangle.
+ transparent instead of being embedded in a gray rectangle. (This doesn't
+ seem to work in trusty where there's still a gray rectangle.)

  https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-maps/tree/NEWS?h=gnome-3-18
  https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-maps/log?h=gnome-3-18

  https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-maps/tree/NEWS?h=gnome-3-10
  https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-maps/log?h=gnome-3-10

  This was fixed in yakkety with https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
  /gnome-maps/3.20.3-1

  Test Case
  =
  After installing the update, open the Maps app. Scroll around, zoom in and
out.

  Regression Potential

  Low. This is a GNOME bugfix release that the developer is strongly
encouraging that distributors distribute.

[Bug 1616731] [NEW] Clang 3.6 only advertises SSE2

2016-08-24 Thread Jeffrey Walton
Public bug reported:

I'm working on a 5th generation Core i5 (see /proc/cpuinfo below). The
CPU offers SSE2, SSE3, SSSE3, SSE4.1, SSE4.2, AES, RDRAND, RDSEED, etc.

After installing Clang 3.6, the compiler claims SSE2 is all that is
available:

$ clang++ -march=native -dM -E - < /dev/null | egrep -i
'(sse|aes|rdrnd|rdseed|avx|bmi)' | sort
#define __SSE__ 1
#define __SSE2__ 1
#define __SSE2_MATH__ 1
#define __SSE_MATH__ 1

$ g++ -march=native -dM -E - < /dev/null | egrep -i
'(sse|aes|rdrnd|rdseed|avx|bmi)' | sort
#define __AES__ 1
#define __AVX__ 1
#define __AVX2__ 1
#define __BMI__ 1
#define __BMI2__ 1
#define __core_avx2 1
#define __core_avx2__ 1
#define __RDRND__ 1
#define __RDSEED__ 1
#define __SSE__ 1
#define __SSE2__ 1
#define __SSE2_MATH__ 1
#define __SSE3__ 1
#define __SSE4_1__ 1
#define __SSE4_2__ 1
#define __SSE_MATH__ 1
#define __SSSE3__ 1

This is nearly the same report as "Clang 3.4 only advertises SSE2",

toolchain-3.4/+bug/1616723; and "Clang 3.5 only advertises SSE2",
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/llvm-
toolchain-3.4/+bug/1616729.

A separate report was provided in case they get worked separately.

[Bug 1615750] Re: package samba-common 2:4.3.9+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2016-08-24 Thread L. P. Luigi Espenlaub
This is the first time I have tried installing Samba or any LAN for a
long while, so bare with me. I want to help and learn this new stuff
along the way.

By "local samba configuration that might indicate" are you talking about
snb.conf or something beyond that like log files? Where are log files
usually kept and can they be opened with Getedit?

[I found recently that some windows log files at least are tokenized.
Great for crazy wallpaper, not for meaningful access to the data.]

I'm willing to look where you indicate and supply what I find.

2016-08-24 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New.  Thanks and good luck!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1616723] Re: Clang 3.4 only advertises SSE2

2016-08-24 Thread Jeffrey Walton
I think this is related from LLVM: "Issue 20213 - clang-cl doesn't
support SSSE3", http://llvm.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=20213. I can't find
a Debian report at the moment.

I was always aware there was some trouble due to working with OS X. I
was not aware it was this bad. I did not realize there was no Lauchpad
reports or remediations in place.

[Bug 1616723] [NEW] Clang 3.4 only advertises SSE2

2016-08-24 Thread Jeffrey Walton
Public bug reported:

I'm working on a 5th generation Core i5 (see /proc/cpuinfo below). The
CPU offers SSE2, SSE3, SSSE3, SSE4.1, SSE4.2, AES, RDRAND, RDSEED, etc.

Ubuntu provides Clang 3.4. On this machine, the compiler claims SSE2 is
all that is available:

$ clang++ -march=native -dM -E - < /dev/null | egrep -i
'(sse|aes|rdrnd|rdseed|avx|bmi)' | sort
#define __SSE__ 1
#define __SSE2__ 1
#define __SSE2_MATH__ 1
#define __SSE_MATH__ 1

$ g++ -march=native -dM -E - < /dev/null | egrep -i
'(sse|aes|rdrnd|rdseed|avx|bmi)' | sort
#define __AES__ 1
#define __AVX__ 1
#define __AVX2__ 1
#define __BMI__ 1
#define __BMI2__ 1
#define __core_avx2 1
#define __core_avx2__ 1
#define __RDRND__ 1
#define __RDSEED__ 1
#define __SSE__ 1
#define __SSE2__ 1
#define __SSE2_MATH__ 1
#define __SSE3__ 1
#define __SSE4_1__ 1
#define __SSE4_2__ 1
#define __SSE_MATH__ 1
#define __SSSE3__ 1

Clang's configuration is causing self tests to fail. The self tests
verify configuration and code generation
(http://github.com/weidai11/cryptopp/blob/master/cryptest.sh#L1013):

$ CXX=clang++ ./cryptest.sh

[Bug 1616710] [NEW] Wine clipboard didn't work but then it did

2016-08-24 Thread Ray Satiro
Public bug reported:

I'm using Wine in Ubuntu 16 LTS to run Notepad++. I copied some text in
Notepad++ (right-click > Copy) and then tried to paste it in the
terminal (right-click > Paste) but it would just paste the text already
in the clipboard. I tried that multiple times because I thought it was
supposed to work that way, but it didn't.

I opened Firefox to ask on askubuntu and the reply I got was CTRL +
Shift + V, which when I tried it did work. Since right-click > Paste did
not work I was surprised by that. Even more surprising is that after
that I was able to paste text into the terminal from Notepad++ by the
menu method described above that initially did not work.

I cannot offer steps to reproduce this. If there's anything you want me
to do should it happen again please let me know.

[Bug 1616707] [NEW] SRU: New upstream bugfix release (3.18.4 and 3.10.4)

2016-08-24 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

Impact
==
gnome-maps has a new upstream bugfix release for all supported versions.

The new release downloads a service.json file from GNOME that indicates
the current preferred map tile server. (This is useful in case of
provider changes as happened with bug 1602035). In the previous bugfix
release, all requests for tiles went through a GNOME.org proxy which
introduced noticeable lag.

The other change is that the Mapbox attribution overlay logo is now
transparent instead of being embedded in a gray rectangle.

https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-maps/tree/NEWS?h=gnome-3-18
https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-maps/log?h=gnome-3-18

https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-maps/tree/NEWS?h=gnome-3-10
https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-maps/log?h=gnome-3-10

This was fixed in yakkety with https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/gnome-maps/3.20.3-1

Test Case
=
After installing the update, open the Maps app. Scroll around, zoom in and out.

Regression Potential

Low. This is a GNOME bugfix release that the developer is strongly encouraging
that distributors distribute.

[Bug 1573755] Re: Compose and dead keys stopped working with XIM after upgrade to 16.04

2016-08-24 Thread Otto Piscus
I am in the same situation as Rudiger, with the compose key working in
Terminal and Dash but not anywhere else I can find. System upgraded to
16.04. All fixes listed above attempted, with no improvement.

Not sure if this helps, but I also had a strange behaviour in terminal
for a while where the operation of the compose key appeared to be
reversed. ie. I would press ' then e and get é without having first
pressed compose. If I first pressed compose then I would get 'e. The
compose key still did nothing in libreoffice, firefox etc. This has now
stopped, but not sure which operation made it change.

[Bug 1616695] [NEW] Bluetooth signal is unusably poor

2016-08-24 Thread ZachG
Public bug reported:

Brand new Macbook Pro 12,1. Brand new Ubuntu 16.04 install (from
scratch).

In MacOS the machine can connect to my bluetooth speaker from across the
room and play A2DP no trouble at all. In Ubuntu 16.04 I have to
literally hold up the macbook 1 inch away from the speaker to get it to
connect and play, and even then it's a bit choppy. Turning off Wifi
seems to help a bit, which leads me to think this is some kind of
transmit power issue.

Syslog is chock full of warnings about skipping audio:

The problem is caused by boost, and we are defenseless until we get 1.57

[Bug 1616652] Re: Release upgrade fails

2016-08-24 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1616652/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 993298] Re: Please make NetworkManager-controlled dnsmasq respect /etc/hosts

At the very least there could be a "dnsmasq_options" entry in
NetworkManager.conf that could override the default options that
NetworkManager calls dnsmasq with.
