[Bug 1621340] [NEW] 'multipath -r' causes /dev/mapper/ being removed

2016-09-07 Thread Liang Chen
Public bug reported:

"multipath -r" causes the /dev/mapper/ to disappear momentarily,
which leads to some issue in consumer applications as such OpenStack.
After some investigation, I found that /dev/mapper/ was deleted by
udev during the reload, and it was re-created soon later by multipathd
(livdevmapper code of cause). Detailed findings are as follows:

For reload in domap (rename as well),

case ACT_RELOAD:
r = dm_addmap_reload(mpp, params);
if (r)
r = dm_simplecmd_noflush(DM_DEVICE_RESUME, mpp->alias,
 0, MPATH_UDEV_RELOAD_FLAG);
break;

it passes 0 to dm_simplecmd_noflush as argument for needsync, which makes
dm_task_set_cookie call being skipped in dm_simplecmd,

if (udev_wait_flag && !dm_task_set_cookie(dmt, &cookie,
((conf->daemon)? DM_UDEV_DISABLE_LIBRARY_FALLBACK : 0) | udev_flags)) {
dm_udev_complete(cookie);
goto out;
}

because of the short-circuit evaluation. Thus _do_dm_ioctl in libdevmapper will
add DM_UDEV_DISABLE_DM_RULES_FLAG flag to dmi->event_nr, and that will
eventually be used in the udev rules (55-dm.rules),

ENV{DM_UDEV_DISABLE_DM_RULES_FLAG}!="1", ENV{DM_NAME}=="?*",
SYMLINK+="mapper/$env{DM_NAME}"

Since the DM_UDEV_DISABLE_DM_RULES_FLAG is set, the rule will not match. As a
result the link is removed.

[Bug 1620741] Re: Xubuntu 16.04 on HP Compaq nx6325 hangs on Shutdown

2016-09-07 Thread rewound
Following the last post we have upstream success; tested FIVE
consecutive times after Shutdown was selected from Whiskermenu the
laptop closed down power.

Setup is...
2016-09-08 06:36:09
cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=16.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=xenial
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS"

KERNEL=4.8.0-040800rc5-generic GNU/Linux < < <

ls /usr/bin/*session
/usr/bin/dbus-run-session /usr/bin/xfce4-session

grep CMDLINE /etc/default/grub
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=""
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="forcepae"

Comments so far...
1) Each time to restart on pressing the power button, so green light is on the
button, a black screen shows with no noticeable activity.. Need to turn off
power button and on again before the familiar HP INVENT F9 F10 splash screen
shows and startup commences.
2) "Failed to start USB modeswitch_1.6" has a red cross on startup. The scroll
up is fast so the message might not be copied here exactly.
3) After starting one or more "System program problem detected" pop ups show
with only choices of Cancel or Report. We select Report each time. A "Show
detail" button on this pop-up or to say where the problem is logged would be
useful. Anybody got ideas on how to find out detail of the problem(s).
4) We are not sure if more than one "System program problem detected" pop up is
present as others could be hidden underneath and clicking on Report does not
immediately show any reaction. Maybe the low latency 4.8 kernel would be more
reactive. Other machines running Xubuntu 16.04 are more responsive.

[Bug 1621336] [NEW] snapd.boot-ok.service hangs eternally on cloud image upgrades

2016-09-07 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug reported:

I reproducibly run into an eternal hang when deploying services with
Juju, when it prepares a new xenial testbed. The current xenial cloud
image does not have the latest snapd, so snapd gets dist-upgraded:

Preparing to unpack .../snapd_2.14.2~16.04_amd64.deb ...
Warning: Stopping snapd.service, but it can still be activated by:
  snapd.socket
Unpacking snapd (2.14.2~16.04) over (2.13) ...
Setting up snapd (2.14.2~16.04) ...
[...] hangs

The postinst tries to start snapd.boot-ok.service on upgrade:

|-cloud-init(311)-+-apt-get(577)---dpkg(845)---snapd.postinst(846)---perl(919)---systemctl(922)
   | `-sh(354)---tee(355)

root   922  0.0  0.0  25316  1412 pts/0S+   06:09   0:00
/bin/systemctl start snapd.boot-ok.service

This hangs eternally because:

 - cloud-init's dist-upgrade runs *during* the boot process, so that the
system is not fully booted yet when this happens (see bug 1576692); thus
multi-user.target is *not* yet active

 - snapd.boot-ok.service is After=multi-user.target

 - "systemctl start" is synchronous by default, i. e. it waits until the
service is started unless you use --no-block.

Thus snapd.postinst waits on snapd.boot-ok.service waits on multi-
user.target waits on cloud-init to finish waits on snapd.postinst to
finish.

I think conceptually you shouldn't start snapd.boot-ok.service in the
postinst; if the system is already booted (manual dist-upgrade) it
should already be running, and if it does get upgraded during boot (with
cloud-init) then you shouldn't pretend that booting is already finished.
So I suggest to use dh_installinit with --no-scripts for snapd.boot-
ok.service.

[Bug 1621327] Re: alt-left/right moves VTs even when in X

2016-09-07 Thread Martin Pitt
This can be switched around manually with "sudo kbd_mode -u" and "-s";
apparently something on upgrade sets the console mode to non-raw.

** Description changed:

- I'm experiencing something very like https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
- bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=834367 but on 16.04.
+ This happened after some upgrades (possibly running systemctl daemon-
+ reexec), but not after a fresh reboot.

Yes that is the correct one.
I am short on time these days and can't help with backporting the package for
ubuntu. Would you be able to take care of this ?
If you only want to backport the systemd change here's what you need

[Bug 1621322] [NEW] xpad not drawing titlebars in Lubuntu.

2016-09-07 Thread Brendan Perrine
Public bug reported:

To reproduce run xpad on Lubuntu 16.10 and notice that the not does not
have a titlebar now or client side minimize maximize or close buttons.

Description:Ubuntu Yakkety Yak (development branch)
Release:16.10
xpad:
  Installed: 4.8.0-1
  Candidate: 4.8.0-1
  Version table:
 *** 4.8.0-1 500
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu yakkety/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
I expected xpad to have either a titlebar or the new version to have client
side decorations that allow it to work minimized or maximized with the mouse. I
then pressed alt +space to try and see if it was just undecorated and decorated
would get it how I wanted so that is not a working workaround. I am not sure if
this broken by gtk 3.20.

[Bug 1318378] Re: rsyslog starts dropping connections in large environments

2016-09-07 Thread Menno Smits
It's worth noting that this is unlikely to be a problem with Juju 2.0 as
we no longer have all the agents in each environment logging to
rsyslogd. Juju agent logs are now sent to the controller machines over
the Juju API and are stored in MongoDB.

This is really just a Juju 1.25 issue. Retargetting...

Re: [Bug 1580882] Re: [Intel Broadwell HDMI, Digital Out] Sound like half speed after suspend

2016-09-07 Thread Luke Yelavich
I don't see anything obvious in those logs and I can't reproduce...

You could try updating your ALSA drivers, as descirbed here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/UpgradingALSA/DKMS

This could very well make a difference since xenial is 4 major kernel
versions behind, and the problem may very well fixed in newer ALSA
driver code.

Thanks.

[Bug 1621125] Re: Crashes in Totem if xserver-xorg-video-intel is not installed

2016-09-07 Thread Timo Aaltonen
I think this is because the modesetting X driver is missing DRI2 page
flip support, which just got added to xserver git master.

Yakkety xserver is patched to use modesetting instead of intel, so in
order to use intel you need an xorg.conf.

[Bug 1610591] Re: Video acceleration regression for Radeon Xpress 200M (r300) in xorg-lts-xenial & xorg-lts-wily

2016-09-07 Thread Timo Aaltonen
well, 2.6 _is_ 7.5.0...

so you just proved that it's not the -ati driver causing it. The diff to
2.5 was:

c74de9fec13fac2 PRIME: Don't advertise offload capabilities when acceleration
is disabled
636a6382f80412a Remove duplicate OPTION_PAGE_FLIP entry
c854b4479ec5122 radeon: bump version post release

none of which have anything to do with your usecase, so if you saw a
difference in behaviour then that's funny, but not caused by the driver.

That leaves the kernel and mesa to bisect then, and at this point I'll
give up.

[Bug 1621303] Re: vpnc directory & file permissions should be more restrictive

2016-09-07 Thread Chris Just
** Description changed:

  /etc/vpnc/ should be chmod 700
  and
  /etc/vpnc/default.conf should be chmod 600

  Otherwise if you run vpnc without sudo you get a not so helpful error
  message like this:

  vpnc: Error binding to source port. Try '--local-port 0'
  Failed to bind to 0.0.0.0:500: Permission denied

  After changing the permissions as I suggested, you get a more helpful
  error like this:

  vpnc: couldn't open `/etc/vpnc/default.conf': Permission denied
+
+ I'm running Linux Mint 17.1.

[Bug 1621265] Re: lose monitor during boot up if I don't add 'nomodeset' to kernel options

2016-09-07 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
seeker5528, in order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue, at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream
kernel available from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ?
Please keep in mind the following:
1) The one to test is at the very top line at the top of the page (not the
daily folder).
2) The release names are irrelevant.
3) The folder time stamps aren't indicative of when the kernel actually was
released upstream.
4) Install instructions are available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds .

If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may:
1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there.
2) Backup, or clone the primary install.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is
the release candidate number if it exists.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Also, you don't need to apport-collect further unless specifically
requested to do so.

It is most helpful that after testing of the latest upstream kernel is
complete, you mark this report Status Confirmed.

Lastly, to keep this issue relevant to upstream, please continue to test
the latest mainline kernel as it becomes available.

Thank you for your help.

** Description changed:

- If I connect my monitor to my computer with a VGA cable, I have to stop
- at the grub menu and add 'nomodeset' to the kernel options with all the
- 4.4.0-* kernels.

- If I do not add 'nomodeset' to the kernel options, my monitor goes
+ If I connect my monitor to my computer with a VGA cable my monitor goes
  blank, complains of no video signal, then goes to sleep as soon as the
  kernel attempts to enable mode setting.

  Turning the monitor off and back on does not help, unplugging the VGA
  cable and connecting the DVI cable does not help. I have to hit
  'Ctrl'+'Alt'+'Del' and wait for the computer to restart or hit the power
  button and wait for the computer to shutdown.

- If I connect the monitor to the computer with a DVI cable, I do not have

  I do not have the option for HDMI on the monitor currently attached.
- Will see if I can get that tested either with another monitor or DVI to
- HDMI adapter.
