[Bug 1576692] Re: fully support package installation in systemd

2016-09-09 Thread Martin Pitt
Pre-weekend braindump: I've had success with modifying a xenial image
like that:

/usr/sbin/invoke-rc.d:

   if ! systemctl --quiet is-active default.target; then
sctl_args="--job-mode=ignore-dependencies"
   fi

Add multi-user.target to cloud-{config,final}.service

Then this works:

  lxc launch ubuntu-xenial-mod --config=user.user-data="$(printf
"#cloud-config\npackages: [postgresql, samba, postfix]")" x1

Services start:

# systemctl list-units --no-legend postg* samb* postfix*
postfix.service loaded active running LSB: Postfix Mail Transport
Agent
postgresql.service loaded active exited PostgreSQL RDBMS
postgresql@9.5-main.service loaded active running PostgreSQL Cluster 9.5-main
samba-ad-dc.service loaded active exited LSB: start Samba daemons for
the AD DC

and reboot works fine.

[Bug 1621906] [NEW] LibreOffice Base table bottom section blank - 16.04 upgrade display issues

2016-09-09 Thread Janos G. Komaromi
Public bug reported:

Confusion-confusion: the ubuntu-bug -w command selected xfce4-panel.
However, the bug I wanted to report (following instruction after ubuntu-
buf -w command) was the "summary" above, i.e. LibreOffice Base data
table bottom section is blank after running distro upgrade from 14.04 to
16.04. Actually, there were other problems, but I can live with them or
fixed them myself. This one is not a big problem, but my be the
indication of a much bigger and general problem: window manager or
display manager mis-behavior after standard upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04.
Here the problem has an easy fix and therefore the problem is just an
annoyance. The easy fix (which only corrects the symptom, but not the
bug) is to adjust the data table window frame right side larger or
smaller a little. Immediately, the bottom part of the window (I don't
know the official name of it, but it is where Record n of N + arrow for
next record, last record or new record, + horizontal slider shows up)
becomes visible. The reason I suspect this is a harbinger of bigger
display/window problem is because on two separate older desktop machines
(different graphics cards) a similar problem occurs, but more generally.
Namely, on some application the window within application is blank, or
worse yet, any pop-up or generated window appears totally black or
white. The only way to shut down the machine decently is to switch to
CTL-SH-f1 console mode, login, and type in a reboot or shutdown command.
This has made the upgraded machine totally unusable. One more thing: on
that other machine the symlink /etc/resolve.conf file is missing after
upgrade.

Hope this helps - jankom

[Bug 50406] Re: Two instances of ntpd are launched, only one is stopped by the init script

2016-09-09 Thread Pik Master
I observed the same bug in Centos 7, 2 instances of ntpd were created on
system boot, ie:

# ps -ef | grep ntp
ntp619 1 0 15:57 ?00:00:00 /usr/sbin/ntpd -u ntp:ntp -g
root 633 619 0 15:57 ?00:00:00 /usr/sbin/ntpd -u ntp:ntp -g

And it produced these errors in the log:
 9 Sep 15:57:23 ntpd[619]: process_private: failed auth mod_okay 0
 9 Sep 15:57:23 ntpd[633]: ntp_intres.request: permission denied

What's surprising, when you restart the service after the system has booted
(ie. systemctl restart ntpd), the problem is gone.

I had this ntp.conf config:
restrictdefault kod nomodify notrap nopeer

So I had to add this line, and now the service starts correctly on system boot:
restrict 127.0.0.1

For IPv6 you probably need this as well:
restrict -6 default kod nomodify notrap nopeer
restrict -6 ::1

[Bug 1621901] [NEW] lacks support for ipv6 addresses

2016-09-09 Thread LaMont Jones
Public bug reported:

# sudo ipmitool lan print

#

The iLo in question is configured with a static IPv6 address (though SLAAC made
no difference), and is quite reachable:
ssh -l lamont 2001:...::cb
lamont@2001:...::cb's password:
User:lamont logged-in to kearns.example.com(0.0.0.0 /
FE80::1658:D0FF:FE47:7028)
iLO 4 Standard 2.03 at Nov 07 2014
Server Name:
Server Power: On

In fact, I can't seem to get the iLo to tell me its IPv6 address (other
than link-local) at the ssh prompt -- only at via web ui.

Please fix ipmitool to return the ipv6 address of the iLo, if any, in
addition to any IPv4 address.

I'll send a bug to Debian to see if they agree to at least use this

[Bug 1577074] Re: AMDGPU driver problems on "Carrizo" APU

2016-09-09 Thread jakedp
I have some further information. Shutting off the driver power
management with amdgpu.runpm=0 does not work. nomodset just puts my
screen in a low resolution and cannot change resolutions. I' am using
KDE Neon 5.7.3 as I do not like Unity but it is still stock Ubuntu 16.04
with the desktop switched out. So what I do now is have my BIOS sit
there for 10 seconds before loading GRUB. When the Plymouth boot screen
comes up I do a soft reboot after a second or two. I do this again. The
third boot it seems the APU is warm enough and no random black screens.

[Bug 1276066] Re: Checkbox needs 'unknown' state

2016-09-09 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
For the reasons given above, I have not included an “animated” property
or an “unknown” state in the toolkit specification for checkboxes.
(Canonical-only link, sorry) As with any control,
it’s generally better not to show a checkbox until you know what its
value is supposed to be.

[Bug 1621899] [NEW] System failed to suspend properly or resume

2016-09-09 Thread Jamie Strandboge

I noticed this system failed to suspend properly and failed to resume.
Closed the lid, the fans kept going. Opened the lid and lights were
flashing indicating an error and had to hard reset. It had the following

[Bug 1619239] Re: [MIR] tomsfastmath (runtime dependency of clamav)

2016-09-09 Thread Michael Terry
And I repeat:
Looks like there are tests that aren't being run in the form of 'make -f
makefile.shared stest; ./stest'

There are three test binaries: test, mtest, and stest.

'test' and 'mtest' don't act like normal automated tests. They don't
return a non-zero value on failure. 'test' doesn't seem to return very
quickly (I didn't wait long).

But the stest binary is different. It returns -1 on failure and
finishes quickly.

I don't know why upstream's test framework is so spotty or why they make
it so hard. But it's sitting there, we should use it.

[Bug 1474226] Re: [system settings] "Other vibrations" setting is misclassified. Found it under "Sound".

2016-09-09 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Thanks for this report. It’s true that putting vibration settings in a
category called “Sound” seems awkward. However, that doesn’t mean
there’s a better place to put them. There are good reasons to put them
with sound settings, and bad reasons to put them in other places
suggested.

Fairly often, when you change whether/which sound happens for something,
you will want to change whether/which vibration happens for the same
thing. (Especially since on many devices, vibration is actually noisy.)
So having those settings next to each other is convenient.

Meanwhile, it’s unlikely that there will be a “User Interface” panel in
future, because many people aren’t familiar with that term. (It’s more
likely that there will be an “Appearance” panel, but vibration settings
would fit just as awkwardly under that name, poor Ubuntu precedents
notwithstanding.) And vibration has little or nothing to do with
“Accessibility”.

One possibility would be to rename “Sound” to “Sound & Vibration”, but
we already have three category names with ampersands (“Language & Text”,
“Time & Date”, “Security & Privacy”), and I’d like to avoid more.

This situation is similar to the current placement of “Updates” and
“About This Device” inside System Settings: neither of them are actually
system settings, but on a small device there doesn’t seem to be a better
place for them.

[Bug 1621618] Re: [FFE Yakkety] Upgrade to Xen 4.7

2016-09-09 Thread Stefan Bader
Several features which have been requested to support are part of Xen-4.7.
Backporting the code for those is high risk and effort:
- https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1328027
- https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1460904
- https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1611210
- https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1611242

There is no changes/news file which could be diffed, however the Xen
project website has feature page (if that helps):
https://wiki.xenproject.org/wiki/Xen_Project_4.7_Feature_List

I have release candidate of the new package uploaded to my PPA (along
with qemu and libvirt built against the new Xen version):

[Bug 1613670] Re: Webview turns white after clicking on it

2016-09-09 Thread Alberto Mardegan
Same behaviour occurs with oxide 1.14.9-0ubuntu1 and 1.13.6-0ubuntu1.

I'm now trying to verify whether this might be due to some change in Qt
5.5 -> 5.6; I'm trying to rollback my yakkety installation to Qt 5.5,
but it's far from being a trivial operation...

I am having this problem but in addition nm-applet is often gone from

related. I fix it by doing a "killall nm-applet; nohup nm-applet &" but

[Bug 688286] Re: [MIR] ofono

2016-09-09 Thread Michael Terry
I reviewed this 6 years ago... Yikes.

So a quick scan shows it to still be fine. Security is OK with this.
There are a million bugs, but putting this in main is part of a slow
transition, it should be fine.

One minor note: ofono-scripts: python-script-but-no-python-dep
usr/share/ofono/scripts/set-ddr

But otherwise fine.

[Bug 1621806] Re: Network-manager-applet need gnome-keyring

2016-09-09 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

reporting this against Go lang upstream project (if you can reliably
reproduce the problem)...

[Bug 1621725] Re: iwlegacy/iwl3945 driver flashes LED on traffic by default

2016-09-09 Thread David Dombrowsky
> Regarding the LED blinking when WiFi traffic is occurring, while you
may find this annoying, and it could be many others find this also, this
being the default action it isn't considered a software bug.

A new user is probably not going to take the time to google the problem,
find this and related bugs, and create a specific file with specific
options in order to make the system usable. Having the light flash in
your face is not the default behavior in other OSes. I would consider
it a real bug.

That said, I get your point. This is also a legacy driver and will
probably go away eventually.

Thank you for your response.

[Bug 1488425] Re: [MIR] ubuntu-download-manager

2016-09-09 Thread Michael Sheldon
Silo 57 (which is currently being reviewed) contains fixes for
translations, for bug 1411866, and the packaging error, but not the
jquery warning, as this is apparently the expected behaviour of Doxygen
based packages (see README.jquery in the doxygen package for details).
We've also synced up the bug lists and added a team subscriber for the
bugs. So as soon as silo 57 lands this should be ready to re-review.
