[Bug 1622005] Re: [Asus ZenBook UX501] Touchpad doesn't have multitouch support
David DIDIER, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. In order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue, at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ? Please keep in mind the following: 1) The one to test is at the very top line at the top of the page (not the daily folder). 2) The release names are irrelevant. 3) The folder time stamps aren't indicative of when the kernel actually was released upstream. 4) Install instructions are available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may: 1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there. 2) Backup, or clone the primary install. If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is the release candidate number if it exists. If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of kernel-bug-exists-upstream. Also, you don't need to apport-collect further unless specifically requested to do so. It is most helpful that after testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, you mark this report Status Confirmed. Lastly, to keep this issue relevant to upstream, please continue to test the latest mainline kernel as it becomes available. Thank you for your help. ** Summary changed: - Unsupported touchpad and function keys on Asus ZenBook UX501 + [Asus ZenBook UX501] Touchpad doesn't have multitouch support ** Description changed: - Some function keys are not working on my Asus Zenbook UX501 with Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS. - I also tried without success all the latest kernels installed from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ : 4.4.19, 4.5.7, 4.6.7 nor 4.7.3. - - The touchpad isn't recognized as such so there is no multitouch support. xinput displays "FTE1001:00 0B05:0101" instead. [Bug 1622291] [NEW] Backport btrfs enospc rework (from kernel 4.8)

I reported some of them in the past. Plus do I have another system with 2x3TB of disk space (WD HDDs), while btrfs sits on top of a dm-raid and LUKS crypto. I experience very slow disk I/O on that system while disk usage gets fuller and fuller (combined with lots of subvolumes and layered devices, so that could be another reason). That said, I guess that, according to the article at heise and commit messages, the two patches have a tremendous impact on performance. Plus, should the patches fix some of the problems that happen together with full disks ("ENOSPC" issues). Now that the patches make it into the upstream kernel, I think that the developers have had some reason to do so. For the moment, I can't test if it actually improves something for me. We released version 16.04, in April of 2016, and it is a Long Term Support release. You can find different ways to obtain it at http://download.ubuntu.com. Thanks! [This is an automated message. Instructions for reproducing from the Irfanview forum post that the OR didn't bother to post here: - Open 2 instances of IrfanView with 2 images. - Select a detail of image 1 and copy it. - Use "Paste special to bottom" to add the detail to image 2. --> Result: the copied image detail is horizontally flipped. Re: [Bug 1357093] Re: Kernels not autoremoving, causing out of space error on LVM or Encrypted installation or on any installation, when /boot partition gets full
Jarno Suni, That possible cause seems irrelevant to Unattended-Upgrades. Any package installed by any front-end to apt will be upgraded. U-U doesn't know what packages are installed, nor care. U-U simply tells aptdaemon to upgrade packages from the repositories authorized by the user. U-U does not duplicate nor replace Software Updater, and both can safely be used. Try running 'apt autoremove' (16.04) or 'apt-get autoremove' (12.04/14.04). If those kernels are not removed, then your problem is the apt-marking, not U-U. There are several ways to prevent automatically marking kernel packages as 'auto' - the most common is by installing kernel header packages. If those kernels are removed, then check the U-U logs in /var/log to ensure that U-U is really operating. A bug report is an awful place to try to troubleshoot in this way. If you open a thread on UbuntuForums, we may be able help you better. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1357093 Title: Kernels not autoremoving, causing out of space error on LVM or Encrypted installation or on any installation, when /boot partition gets full To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unattended-upgrades/+bug/1357093/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1575000] Re: font glyph corruption on dialog box
Enabling OpenGL rendering also solved this for me (the attached file shows which checkbox must be enabled/marked/checked, at the LibreOffice GUI). I'm running LibreOffice 5.1.4.2 on a 64-bit XUbuntu 16.04 "Xenial Xerus" system. My computer is a Dell laptop (Dell Inspiron 5548) which has hybrid graphics (it has two GPU - Graphics Processing Units): GPU 1 is an Intel Broadwell-U Integrated Graphics (it's embedded into the i7 CPU/processor), while GPU 2 is an Advanced Micro Devices [AMD/ATI] Topaz XT [Radeon R7 M260/M265] (it's a PCI Express 3.0 graphics card). *Ubuntu (Ubuntu, XUbuntu, KUbuntu...) 16.04 distros ship with kernel 4.4.X, which has a bug that causes malfunction of the kernel with the open source "amdgpu" and "radeon" graphics drivers (they superseded the proprietary "fglrx" driver by AMD). See bug #1608042 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- amdgpu/+bug/1608042). Hence, if your computer has any AMD GPU (despite of your computer having hybrid graphics or not), and if your distro is *Ubuntu 16.04 and you already installed MESA (OpenGL support for Linux) and activated OpenGL rendering in LibreOffice, but the issue remais, it is likely that your system is affected by the kernel/AMD bug. It's thus recommended to download and install a further stable kernel, like e.g. kernel v4.7.2: - For 64-bit *Ubuntu, download these three files: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7.2/linux-headers-4.7.2-040702_4.7.2-040702.201608201334_all.deb http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7.2/linux-headers-4.7.2-040702-generic_4.7.2-040702.201608201334_amd64.deb http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7.2/linux-image-4.7.2-040702-generic_4.7.2-040702.201608201334_amd64.deb - For 32-bit *Ubuntu, download these three files: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7.2/linux-headers-4.7.2-040702_4.7.2-040702.201608201334_all.deb http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7.2/linux-headers-4.7.2-040702-generic_4.7.2-040702.201608201334_i386.deb http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7.2/linux-image-4.7.2-040702-generic_4.7.2-040702.201608201334_i386.deb ...then open a shell terminal window, cd (change directory) into the folder where you donwloaded those DEB packages into, then install the packages and restart your system. For instance, if you downloaded those DEB packages into your downloads folder (/home/your-username/Downloads), then this command will cd into your downloads folder, install the downloaded packages and restart your system (your password will be asked by the shell): cd ~/Downloads ; sudo dpkg -i linux-*.deb ; telinit 6 ** Attachment added: "Activate OpenGL rendering." https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1575000/+attachment/4738500/+files/opengl_rendering.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1575000 Title: font glyph corruption on dialog box To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/1575000/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1621555] Re: Brother HL-L2340DW not printing either USB or WiFi MATE 16.04.1 LTSE 16.04 LTS
It had nothing to do with the cupsd.conf file. It was all about Brothers incorrect instructions. In their instructions it stated: * The tool will be downloaded into the default "Download" directory. (The directory location varies depending on your Linux distribution.) e.g. /home/(LoginName)/Download Step2. Open a terminal window and go to the directory you downloaded the file to in the last step. * In reality the files had to located in /Download/Drivers and then following their instructions everything worked and automatically installed the printer also. BTW I used this URL --- http://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadhowto.aspx?c=gb&lang=en&prod=hll2340dw_us_eu_as&os=128&dlid=dlf006893_000&flang=4&type3=625 which points to the Driver Install Tool. The.deb might work, but I am so new to Linux I could not figure it out. Yes, this patch is definitely required because it fixes an important bug fix for the EEH feature. Without it EEH would be broken. However, if possible, I would like to have 2.6.1 in Ubuntu 16.10. It is a bug fix only release on top of 2.6. [Bug 1589912] Re: xsane fail tp detect scanner MP495
May I ask why you request me to test that version? Is there any changes in the code or you would just suggest a luck of testing and see if it fixed? Did you report it to the upstream (the sane project) after three months of waiting? I am saying this because I can not believe that the simple action takes almost 3 months to get back to me and not reporting to upstream vendor and the report is still marked: 'incomplete'. Did all ubuntu staff thinking it is 'always user's error' rather than real bug? The bug s reported on 06 and three months later you suggest to test on a alpha version of ubuntu without even noticing that the version and code of xsane did not change. Nevertheless I managed to download the alpha version (dated 10/09/2016) and after long time of burning into CD and adjust X settings (as this alpha version does not work with multiple screen yet). The problem is exactly the same. Below is output of the package. Both xsane has error with same message like before. More than that as xsane is not come by default ubuntu I tried the simple scan program and got error as well, it detect the scanner but saying can not connect to the scanner. This is no surprises to me as they use the same sane backend. root@compaq:~# dpkg -l|grep sane ii libsane:amd64 1.0.25+git20150528-1ubuntu2 amd64API library for scanners ii libsane-common 1.0.25+git20150528-1ubuntu2 all API library for scanners -- documentation and support files ii libsane-hpaio:amd643.16.7+repack0-1 amd64HP SANE backend for multi-function peripherals ii sane-utils 1.0.25+git20150528-1ubuntu2 amd64API library for scanners -- utilities ii xsane 0.999-3ubuntu2 amd64featureful graphical frontend for SANE (Scanner Access Now Easy) ii xsane-common 0.999-3ubuntu2 all xsane architecture independent files root@compaq:~# root@compaq:~# lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. [Bug 1578153] Re: No multitouch in qml app on BqM10
I can reproduce this on the latest rc-proposed images with a number of apps (Fingerpaint, Flight Of The Amazon Queen, Beneath A Steel Sky), only one touch point gets sent through to the app for each of these; they sometimes see two points if both fingers are pressed down at exactly the same time, but no more than two points. I'm adding unity8 into this as I suspect it might be related to the handling of the side-stage three finger gesture, which only occurs on tablet devices (explaining why it works fine on phones) ** Changed in: canonical-devices-system-image Status: Incomplete => Confirmed ** Also affects: unity8 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1578153 Title: No multitouch in qml app on BqM10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1578153/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1622265] [NEW] Alienware 17R3 sound stop working randomly, it returns after booting into Windows
Public bug reported: The sound stops working in what it seems a random fashion. The first time it happened, I started going through the sound troubleshooting, did all the installation and rebooting and the sound didn't come back. I came back later to uploads the logs, but changing the input from "Digital output" to "Line out" made the sound work again. So I didn't bother with uploading the logs. Now, the sound is gone again, without no apparent reason. Went through the troubleshooting again and the sound is not working (as before). However, changing the line to "Line out" is not working as before. I noticed that booting into Windows and booting back to Ubuntu restore the sound. Also, I have the problem of the headphones not working. I'm not sure if that is relevant, but better to tell the whole story. [Bug 1622243] Re: Instalation Crash: input/output error 5
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We noticed that you were installing the LTS version of Ubuntu using an older version of the installation media. The latest point release of 16.04 is 16.04.1. Please try installing from that version of the installation media and see if that resolves your issue. Thanks in advance! [This is an automated message.
