[Bug 1639863] [NEW] Firefox and Thunderbird don't appear in the (new) appstream metadata

2016-11-07 Thread Iain Lane
Public bug reported:

The new generator doesn't understand symlinks unfortunately, so Firefox
and Thunderbird don't appear.

http://appstream.staging.ubuntu.com/zesty/main/issues/firefox.html

laney@nightingale> ls /usr/share/pixmaps/firefox.png
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 46 Oct 25 15:34 /usr/share/pixmaps/firefox.png ->
../../lib/firefox/browser/icons/mozicon128.png

To make them work, /usr/share/pixmaps/firefox.png should be a real file.
It could either be a copy of the file, or
/usr/lib/firefox/browser/icons/mozicon128.png could be a symlink.

[Bug 880645] Re: "btrfs device delete /dev/sdaX /" fails with error "ERROR: error removing the device '/dev/sdaX'"

2016-11-07 Thread Aeaeaeaeaeae
should btrfs maybe add a hint to add the "--force" option when it
refuses to do

"btrfs balance start -mconvert=raid0 /" (maybe "single" instead of
"raid0" works too?)

when i tried this command without --force, I just got "invalid argument"
only the log file suggested to use "--force"

similarly if would be helpful if "btrfs device delete" would print a
hint to do the -mconvert=raid0 (or single) in order to get back to a
setup with only one disk

This would help to avoid hours of pointless googling...

[Bug 982316] Re: Deja Dup is unable to detect network connection

2016-11-07 Thread Thomas Zink
I can confirm the Bug. I try to backup using SSHFS to a remote location.
SSH works fine, scp works fine, duplicity from command line works fine.
Deja-dup is not able to find the backup location:

"Backup location not available
 Waiting for a network connection..."

This affects both the scheduled as well as manual backups. So I can't
backup over ssh.

Adding the host to /etc/hosts did not help. Using IP Adress over
hostname did not help.

Also, after closing the window, the processes "deja-dup --backup" and
"deja-dup --backup --auto" keep running and have to be killed manually.

[Bug 1614562] Re: package samba-common 2:4.3.9+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 4

2016-11-07 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
That message should list the other offending package:
ucfr: Attempt from package samba-common to take /etc/samba/smb.conf away from
package

You could take a look what currently owns /etc/samba/smb.conf with "dpkg
-S /etc/samba/smb.conf".

Other than that - to continue to help we would need to understand how to
reproduce this issue, so for now I can only mark it as incomplete.

[Bug 1621507] Re: initramfs-tools configure_networking() fails to dhcp ipv6 addresses

Most definitely my comments above are with regard to SRU, because I know
that the point of this bug is to be SRU'd.

How is not doing a 'sleep' unavoidable? The new code path only uses
dhclient in some cases for ipv4. In cases where it still allows the
ipconfig path (kernel command line of 'ip=dhcp') the initramfs will now
sleep in between re-tries when previously it would not.

It will take longer to boot, and that is a regression. It is definitely
fixable.

How are you "deprecate" ing this ? Can you show me where deprecating
behavior is allowed in an SRU?

see bug 1069570 for a real world example (even affecting MAAS) of how a
hostname is important.
Something being "not straight forward" doesn't mean that you can just
regress behavior in an SRU. MAAS is not the only consumer of ipv4 dhcp
boot.

Did you ever boot a system and look? I suggest you need to account for
that and test and see what happens.

I propose to close this. This is clearly fixed with 4.4 on the host, and
rolling that out is covered by bug 1602577.

It can be closed for auto-package-testing either way as our arm64 nova

[Bug 1634802] Re: Could not insert module

2016-11-07 Thread kary
Also I tested nvidia-304, version 304.132-0ubuntu2. I did it from zesty
archive.

It seems to me, that THIS bug is fixed. The module got loaded into
kernel, there are no longer unsatisfied global references.

But like others have have commented, something else seems to be wrong.
In my case (I am running kubuntu) I get a black screen after boot. The
greeter login window does not appear.

Right now I don't have time to debug THAT problem. I hope to be able to
do that later this week and probably file another bug. (My current guess
is, that it may have something to do with the lack of another patch,
that has been dropped between 304.131-0ubuntu5 and 304.132-0ubuntu1...)

[Bug 1620828] Re: unable to update apps (HttpError:401 - UNAUTHORIZED)

2016-11-07 Thread Jonas G. Drange
The cause of this bug is that we don't really acknowledge that tokens
expire. So it's a bug in the plugin, not the server. A proposed fix is
to keep tokens and their associated expiry date so that the plugin can
know what tokens has expired and recreate them if necessary.

We could then reduce the complexity of the token retrieval code, since
we could just produce 5 minute tokens locally, and not do the token-
dance with the server.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if
you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test
it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running
only once:

[Bug 1639818] [NEW] libc6:i386 failed to install/upgrade (related to epson-inkjet-printer-escpr)

2016-11-07 Thread doylep

Does anyone know possible workaround?

[Bug 1579712] Re: Refresh hangs indefinitely, appstreamcli using 100% CPU

2016-11-07 Thread Neil Mayhew
@nader-f: You're probably using an out-of-date ISO for your VM. This
issue was fixed in 16.04 a long time ago. Be sure to use the 16.04.1 ISO
and not the original 16.04 ISO in the future. The [change summary for
16.04.1][1] specifically mentions this bug as having been fixed.

[Bug 1639815] [NEW] apt list output format

2016-11-07 Thread Donjan Rodic
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to get used to the new 'apt' utility and have three wishlist
items (don't want to clutter the tracker with multiple feature requests)
in descending priority:

1. apt list firefox
In the output, can we please have a space after the package name, before the
slash?
A very convenient feature of apt-cache/aptitude is to search for a package,
then double click + middle click the name of a result to speedily select it and
paste it into the current prompt (which is prepared with e.g. an install, show
or depends command).
'apt list' appends '/repo,XXX' (where XXX is most often garbage... ehm, I mean
strings like 'now' or again 'other_repo,now') right after the package name,
which makes the double click select more than just a package name.
E.g. 'apt policy firefox/yakkety-updates' fails.
This would also be more convenient for awk scripts (despite the stable
interface warning).

2. apt list fox
Can we please have substring matching by default (or a storable user pref) for
'apt list'?
'apt search' is _way_ too noisy (the three line output per package instead of
one line is just clutter).
But 'apt list' doesn't match like 'apt-cache search' (or aptitude). The
alternative is defaulting to 'apt l **' and then filling in between the
asterisks, or resorting to 'apt l|grep' as standard 'apt-cache search'
replacement.
I don't see the justification for the current exact searching in only the
package names. And there's still 'apt search' for searching the description.

3. apt sh
A minor complaint: all current apt commands complete once they are tabbed when
their string becomes unique, and append a space. Only 'apt show' in 16.10 (as
opposed to 16.04) does not due to the undocumented showsrc command. This often
leads to 'apt showfirefox' after writing 'apt shfirefox', because it's
inconsistent with the other commands.
So, find another name for showsrc?

[Bug 1611124] Re: W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/i915/kbl_guc_ver9_14.bin for module i915

2016-11-07 Thread Seth Forshee
@Gábor: The versions at that link are the same versions already in our
linux-firmware package, so installing the firmware from that site isn't
going to help. Intel's driver is looking for firmware versions that
Intel has never released. It's unfortunate that Intel does this with
their drivers, but we *cannot* include firmware which hasn't been
released.

[Bug 1637466] Re: do-release-upgrade removed system-config-printer-gnome during 16.04 -> 16.10 upgrade

2016-11-07 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

- I've a freshly-installed Ubuntu GNOME 16.04.1 LTS system that I upgraded
- to 16.10 using 'sudo do-release-upgrade' in a terminal[*]. The upgrade
- process removed system-config-printer-gnome, which I've discovered
- today, when my attempts to configure a new printer failed with an
- unhelpful error message.
+ Impact
+ ===
+ Users who upgraded Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 LTS to Ubuntu GNOME 16.10 using
do-release-upgrade (update-manager too?) had system-config-printer-gnome
uninstalled. system-config-printer-gnome is required for the Printers panel of
the Settings app to work.
+
+ Test Case
+ =
+ Ensure that gnome-control-center depends on system-config-printer-gnome.
+
+ Regression Potential
+
+ Unless someone has a reason to not want system-config-printer-gnome
installed, there doesn't seem to be any regression potential here.
+
+ Other Info
+ ==
+ I (jbicha) am not applying this change to zesty now, because I want to merge
system-config-printer with Debian first so that gnome-control-center can depend
on system-config-printer-common instead of system-confg-printer-gnome.

+

+ ===
+ I've a freshly-installed Ubuntu GNOME 16.04.1 LTS system that I upgraded to

attempts to configure a new printer failed with an unhelpful error message.

/var/log/dist-upgrade/apt.log (and I hope ubuntu-bug will attach it to
this bug) indicates that system-config-printer-gnome was removed because
(the old version of) it depended on packagekit-system-interface, which
  is not in yakkety.

[*] because six months earlier when I used the GUI update-manager to
upgrade an Ubuntu GNOME 15.10 system to 16.04 LTS I had a lot of pain
related to the GUI bits (the screensaver-won't-unlock-post-gnome-shell-
upgrade bug, and the update-manager-UI-freezes-on-ctrl-shift-I bug).

[Bug 1639660] Re: apparmor-parse cannot parse profile with stacking //

2016-11-07 Thread Yuqiong Sun
Hi John,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I did what you suggested, but it looks like it is still not working.

After I remove the whitespace, I still have the same error:

AppArmor parser error for root.test.shell in root.test.shell at line 7:
syntax error, unexpected TOK_ID, expecting TOK_END_OF_RULE

Then I tried the quote, the error message changes to the following:

AppArmor parser error for root.test.shell in root.test.shell at line 7:
Found unexpected character: '"'

Thanks.

[Bug 1639809] [NEW] Problem with Apache & Subversion versions in Trusty

2016-11-07 Thread François Tissandier
Public bug reported:

With a Trusty server configured with backports enabled, I met this
problem :

-installed Apache2
-installed subversion
-installed libapache2-svn

Apache won't start, in version 2.4.10 :

apache2: Syntax error on line 140 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Syntax error on
line 2 of /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/authz_svn.load: Cannot load
/usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_authz_svn.so into server:
/usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_authz_svn.so: undefined symbol: ap_hook_force_authn

I have deactivated the backports, then removed and reinstalled Apache,
this time it comes in version 2.4.7, and is working fine with the SVN
module. Apparently Apache version was too recent, and not compatible
with the 1.8.8 version of Subversion.

[Bug 1639810] [NEW] igb i210 probe of pci device failed with error -2

2016-11-07 Thread Chris J Arges
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

Intel I210 NIC may show:
'igb: probe of :07:00.0 failed with error -2'
Upon boot after power has been completely disconnected.

I was able to bisect it down to commit 2a3cdead8b408351fa1e3079b220fa331480ffbc
Upon further investigation it was determined that firmware may not properly
initialize I347AT4_PAGE_SELECT causing the probe of an igb i210 NIC to fail.

This also happens with the linux 4.9-rc4.

[Fix]

https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/690464/
This patch adds an addition zeroing of this register during igb_get_phy_id to
workaround this issue.

[Test Case]

Completely power down machine with intel igb 210 NIC. Power on and
ensure igb device is properly probed and initialized.

[Bug 1566508] Re: autofs races with sssd on startup

2016-11-07 Thread Victor Tapia
Hi Maciej,

I'm attaching the suggested patch to this bug, but bear in mind it's
adapted to upstream's code.

Originally, SSSD creates the pidfile at an early stage (once it forks)
before the providers have started. This patch moves the pidfile creation
to a point where the providers are up and ready, allowing us to monitor
this file creation in the boot scripts for upstart/systemd. With a few
tweaks in the boot scripts, this would fix points #1 and #2 in the list.

Regarding #3, SSSD monitors the status of the network interfaces using
libnl, triggering an internal restart of the services when a change
happens. It don't think this is a problem by itself, rather than a bad
combination with #4

[Bug 1639200] Re: Update webkitgtk to 2.14.2 in yakkety

2016-11-07 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

  Impact
  ==
webkit2gtk 2.14.2 is a new bugfix release in the stable 2.14 series

  https://webkitgtk.org/2016/11/03/webkitgtk2.14.2-released.html

Same justification as bug 1632535 ...

  https://webkitgtk.org/security/WSA-2016-0006.html was just posted. New
security fixes are not backported to previous stable releases, so I
believe we will be updating Ubuntu 16.04 LTS with the 2.14 series like
we did with the 2.12 series recently.

Because of the non-trivial regression potential, it's good to get some
real-world testing first. Plus it fixes some bugs affecting 16.10.

  Test Case
  =
  - Run epiphany-browser, evolution and yelp since those apps currently use
webkitgtk's unstable DOM API
  - Run the ubiquity slideshow. Instructions for doing this without needing to
run the installer are at

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/webkit2gtk/+bug/1618956/comments/4

+ Those 4 apps are the most likely to have problems with the update. It
+ would probably be good to test a few other apps from its rdepends too:
+
+ $ reverse-depends src:webkit2gtk
+
I have done this testing from my PPA. Please don't permanently add this
PPA to your system as I use it for a variety of packaging experiments.

  https://launchpad.net/~jbicha/+archive/ubuntu/arch/

  Regression Potential

Low to Moderate. The diff is too large to be able to review very easily.
A few months ago, a stable webkit2gtk update (2.12.4, fixed in 2.12.5) broke
the ubiquity slideshow ( bug 1618956 ). This risk is mitigated because we are
specifically testing for that now.

[Bug 1639200] Re: Update webkitgtk to 2.14.2 in yakkety

2016-11-07 Thread Andy Whitcroft
Hello Jeremy, or anyone else affected,

Accepted webkit2gtk into yakkety-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/webkit2gtk/2.14.2-0ubuntu1 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

2016-11-07 Thread ChristianEhrhardt

> Is there any way to use this functionality in 14.04?

Hi Ante,
Since it was not targeted, developed nor tested at 14.04 it can not be used
as-is.
But OTOH the code is rather release agnostic, so 14.04 it might still just
work once you have the right curtin/cloud-init bits available.

But to test that is a bit harder than the usual "add a ppa" action.
You'd need to have 14.04 images that MAAS deploys to have the new code as
well as get MAAS to exploit that.

So for the moment, no - there is no way (yet?) to use this in 14.04
