[Bug 1649727] Re: No sound card detected with device: Intel Corporation Device 9d71

2016-12-15 Thread Reuben Firmin
I spoke too soon. Sound was working the first time I switched from 4.9
to 4.4, though volume couldn't be changed in the UI.

However, after I rebooted again (4.4 -> 4.4) I never got sound to work
again.

I'm now returning the laptop (for this and other reasons - e.g. battery
life sucks) so I can't be any further assistance on this.

[Bug 1650263] [NEW] [16.04.2] POWER9 patches on top of 4.8

2016-12-15 Thread bugproxy
Public bug reported:

This is a Ubuntu 16.04.2 feature to track the inclusions of POWER9
patches on top of kernel 4.8.

Ubuntu 16.04.2 is based on kernel 4.8[1], and we want to add support for
POWER9 on this kernel. In order to do so, we will need to cherry-pick
important patches.

What are the commit ids for these patches?

Once we have the first batch of commit-ids, we will get this feature
mirrored to Canonical.

[1] git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-yakkety.git

Canonical, this is a place holder at this moment. We will start to put
the commits that would be required soon.

[Bug 1650259] [NEW] [XPS 13 9350, Realtek ALC3246, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all after making sound test

2016-12-15 Thread jacopo.tolja
Public bug reported:

The problem is that there is no sound at the jack for the headphones.
I was trying the sound test and after I change the surround option available in
the sound test, the whole sound disappear and the default output device
disappear in the Audio settings.
Trying to fix an existing unresolved problem actually made it worse.
Now I do not have any sound at all internal and from the jack for the headphone.
By the way I tested a windows 10 live and the sound worked also from the jack
for the headphones!!!
Have not being using windows for the last 10 years I was impressed how they
have improved.

[Bug 1650261] [NEW] snaps with hyphens in their names get badly-named systemd mount definitions

2016-12-15 Thread Barry Price
Public bug reported:

e.g. installing the canonical-livepatch snap gives me:

/etc/systemd/system/snap-canonical\x2dlivepatch-17.mount
/etc/systemd/system/snap.canonical-livepatch.canonical-livepatchd.service
/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/snap-canonical\x2dlivepatch-17.mount
/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/snap.canonical-livepatch.canonical-livepatchd.service

The .service files are named sensibly, but the .mount files get a '\x2d'
instead of a '-'.

This is particularly troublesome on hosts where /etc/ is kept in
revision control, as e.g. bzr will crash on encountering these
particular type of filenames.

[Bug 1607823] Re: Cellular connection drops out

2016-12-15 Thread Stefan Mikulaj
Still no progress with this annoying bug? It's really one of the worst
bugs. Signal drops draining the battery, makes phones overheats.
Sometimes I only find a notification of a missed call, but the phone
never rang. The caller says the call has gone straight to voicemail.
Browsing the net is a choir as the page loading freezes, stops and
resumes all the time. Any news would be welcome. Thanks.

Robie,
Well, it's certainly hard to argue for *less* testing though - a test
on the most popular architecture seems reasonable. I went ahead and
tested a d-i mini.iso install from proposed on an amd64 VM via
virt-manager and observed no regressions. Note that the GA d-i remains
available/usable after updates, so any regressions on other
architectures will have that as a fallback option.

[Bug 1621507] Re: initramfs-tools configure_networking() fails to dhcp ipv6 addresses

2016-12-15 Thread Robie Basak
11:11 cyphermox, lamont: in bug 1621507's test cases, we had
previous reported regressions with ip="" and ip=:eth0:dhcp. Those
should be in the test plan, IMHO.

11:13 cyphermox: lamont: what are "jderose's use cases"?

11:15 cyphermox: lamont: also, under "Non-MAAS test cases",
will it matter what the network responds with? In the IPv4 cases, we
need to make sure that behaviour doesn't change whether or not IPv6 DHCP
and/or radvd are present, so the status of the network should be part of
the test case.

11:16 For ip6= I'm not so bothered, since existing users won't
be using that.

11:22 cyphermox, lamont: final two points. 1) are the review
fixes we landed in proposed in Xenial in Zesty yet? If not, they should
be, and I expect to block release of the SRUs on this. I gave a pass at
accepting into proposed only because we were so delayed already; we have
time now.

11:23 cyphermox, lamont: 2) who's actually going to do all the
verifications here? It seems to be that nobody is nominated right now,
so I'm expecting it to run past the seven days right now, and I know
lamont is in a hurry, so you should probably resolve that now.

[Bug 1636838] Re: Failed to boot

2016-12-15 Thread Paolo Pisati
No, there's no special process required:

-take the rpi2 image:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/releases/16.04/release/ubuntu-16.04
-preinstalled-server-armhf+raspi2.img.xz

-enable proposed, and do a dist upgrade and you'll get all the above
packages

-reboot

-does it come back? yes, fine -> verification-done

[Bug 1650243] [NEW] fonts missing in Ubuntu 16.10

2016-12-15 Thread Uwe Kretschmer
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 16.10 there is something wrong with dejavu fonts, showing up
by trying to use them with scribus or scribus-ng. On Ubuntu 16.04 all
worked fine.

The fonts aren't loaded into scribus, just one: DejaVu Math TeX Gyre
Regular

Font packages fonts-dejavu are all installed.

I issued this as scribus bug
(https://bugs.scribus.net/view.php?id=14475), but the maintainers said
it's not a scribus thing. I tried the suggested solution to upgrade
libfreetype6, but neither 2.6.5 nor 2.7 worked for me.

I also tryed to downgrade libfreetype6 and fonts-dejavu to the working
versions on Ubuntu 16.04, but also no success.

But using the dejavu fonts in e.g. libreoffice works fine.

Ubuntu 16.10 amd64
fonts-dejavu 2.37-1
libfreetype6 2.6.3-3ubuntu1

[Bug 162253] Re: openssh: want hpn-ssh for 20x speed improvement!

2016-12-15 Thread Robie Basak
It seems that upstream and Debian are Won't Fix. I don't think Ubuntu
will deviate from this (due to the security maintenance nightmare it may
produce) so I'll set this bug to Won't Fix for Ubuntu to make this
clear.

If upstream or Debian's position changes, we can always change this.

** Description changed:

- LXD 2.0.6 supports use of distinct sub-uid/gid for each running
- container; nova-lxd has support for this upstream in all stable and
- master branches so we should update nova-lxd in >= Xenial to support
- this feature.
+ [Impact]
+ By default, all LXD containers will run with the same subuid/subgid range,
which means that if a single container is compromised, all containers on the
same host are potentially compromised as well.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ deploy a nova-lxd based openstack cloud
+ boot multiple instances
+ they all share the same uid/gid mapping within a host
+
+ boot multiple instances with a flavor property of lxd:isolated
+ all containers have different uid/gid mappings within a host
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Minimal in nova-lxd itself; we're just adding an additional extra-spec and
tweaking the container profile if the underlying LXD daemon supports the
isolation feature.
+
+ [Original Bug Report]
+ LXD 2.0.6 supports use of distinct sub-uid/gid for each running container;

[Bug 1650237] [NEW] Spanish voice isn't loaded when requested

2016-12-15 Thread Jose Luis Guardiola
Public bug reported:

With default installation of festival and spanish voice:
 festival
 festvox-ellpc11k

When I execute this command:
echo hola |festival --tts --language spanish
or
echo hola |festival --tts --language castillian_spanish

I get the same answer:
Not a Spanish voice installed

I've edited the
/usr/share/festival/languages/language_castillian_spanish.scm (attached)
to keep as similar to american_english.scm file and it started to work
correctly.

However I get an error on alias:
echo hola |festival --tts --language castillian
"Language not installed. The installed languages are:"
(english czech castillian_spanish finnish russian scots_gaelic american_english
italian welsh british_english)

And the list of languages isn't correct: just castillian_spanish is listed and
spanish is missing.
I could generate a language_spanish.scm and language_castillian_spanish.scm
similar to english version but I don't know if it will be useful for you.

** Affects: festival (Ubuntu)

** Patch added: "Possible solution for missing voice"

[Bug 1649391] Re: 5.7.16: can't set error log file

2016-12-15 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for your report.

This looks like a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in
Ubuntu.

If you want to make this customisation, you also need to adjust the
Apparmor profile that ships with Ubuntu's mysql packaging. From memory,
look at /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld and add to
/etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.sbin.mysqld. I may have the paths wrong, but
that's the general idea.

If you need further help, you can find pointers to get help for this
sort of problem here: http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Since we use this bug tracker to track bugs in Ubuntu, rather than
configuration problems, I'm marking this bug as Invalid. This helps us
to focus on fixing bugs in Ubuntu.

If you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem
specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

Linuxbridge has not been a specific test target to date; however its
quite possible that the switch to using os-vif in the Ocata cycle will
resolve this problem.

[Bug 1590590] Re: Touchpad not recognized on Dell Latitude E7470 Ultrabook

2016-12-15 Thread bagl0312
ok,
after further googling it turned out these up-right and bottom-right top
shortcuts for middle and right button are default in Ubuntu (and not specific
of our trackpad).
So the new driver is working as expected.

For those finding very annoying the accidental middle button click when
tapping the up-right part of the trackpad there is a workaround to
disable it using the synclient command:

synclient RTCornerButton=0 ! disable up-right middle click
synclient RBCornerButton=0 ! disable bottom-right right click

You can also put the above commands in the "startup applications
preferences" control panel to make them persistent after a reboot

[Bug 1650207] [NEW] original lsb-release file should be preserved for classic mode

2016-12-15 Thread Oliver Grawert
Public bug reported:

when installing the classic snap the modified /etc/lsb-release and /etc
/os-release are used inside the tarball. when compiling code that uses
the content of these files at build time they get the wrong info:

DISTRIB_ID="Ubuntu Core"
DISTRIB_RELEASE=16
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu Core 16"

vs:

DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=16.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=xenial
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS"

we should preserve the original data for these two files and use it
inside the classic container when the classic snap is installed, so
build environments can match against the correct data.

[Bug 1609140] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2016-12-15 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From roes...@de.ibm.com 2016-12-15 04:51 EDT---
I have tested with installer version 451.9. The installer retrieved package
partman-btrfs 18ubuntu1.1 from
http://de.ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports//pool/main/p/partman-btrfs/partman-btrfs_18ubuntu1.1_all.udeb

When I tried to reproduce the issue, the following warning message was
displayed:

btrfs root file system not supported without separate /boot
Your root file system is a btrfs file system. This is not supported by the boot
loader used by default by this installer.
You should use a small /boot partition with another file system, such as ext4.

>From my perspective, the bug is fixed. Also the error message does
explain very well what is wrong and what to do about it.

[Bug 1649554] Re: Default Mallard element translated incorrectly

2016-12-15 Thread Chris Perry
About 60 pages in the desktop help use elements. (I listed them
using the command grep " seem straightforward. However, there's a
handful of unusual/complicated uses, which I may well leave alone. (If
in doubt, leave it alone.)

So far I've noticed three short procedures that have been wrongly marked
up using , so I'm planning to change those too. They'll be changed
to elements.

I'll just be changing markup (not the English text) so there is (surely)
no impact on the translators. This is basically a simple job (though
there are 60 pages to check). Can anything go wrong?
