Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.

[Bug 1640297] Re: 16.04.1 LTS hang during boot 4.4.0-45-generic with /etc/crypttab. Boots fine in 4.4.0-42-generic and older

2017-01-28 Thread aPlatypus
I am getting this with 4.4.0-59-generic, I'm booted off a thumb drive
using 4.4 and this systems update manager is prompting to upgrade the
kernel to 4.4.0-59. Which I'm obviously NOT doing. However my point is
why is this still in circulation -- Shouldn't it be pulled off the list
of packages?

I am not sure how other people managed to get command output, my system
hangs just after it says Loading Virtual Drive or RAM-disk. And
"Console not available" which sucks, since it is just dead.

Also I am not sure about numbering scheme here. Is v4.10-rc5, 0.6
increments away from 4.4.0-59? Is that the right way to read this?

[Bug 1645232] Re: e2fsprogs - could not preserve ACL permissions : The getxattr() returns with (EINVAL)

2017-01-28 Thread Theodore Ts'o
I've committed a complete fix to the master branch of the e2fsprogs git
tree.

One of the reasons why I don't want to commit a partial fix is because
the potential for corruption of production file systems by programs such
as fuse2fs was extremely high. Users of mke2fs -d are generally
embedded developers. Users of fuse2fs are more likely to be civilians.

We've had this bug for a long time, and no one has complained. Taking
some time to have a fix that doesn't corrupt file systems is far more
important to me as the maintainer. For any distribution, but
especially for Ubuntu, civilian users >>> embedded developers.

[Bug 1660098] Re: OOM with lots of free swap

2017-01-28 Thread Nate Eldredge
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

On a vps with 512MB RAM and a 2 GB swapfile, I am experiencing 100%
reproducible OOM when running duplicity. duplicity uses a fair amount
of memory, about 300 MB at the time of OOM, but there should be plenty
  of swap to accommodate it.

I have attached a syslog excerpt. Note "Free swap = 2004684kB".

If I am reading the log message correctly, "order=2" at the top means
this was an attempt to allocate 4 pages, i.e. 16KB. It certainly seems
that it should be possible to satisfy this by swapping. I know
fragmentation is a possible issue but it seems implausible that we
  couldn't find 4 pages together.

This doesn't seem to happen when running other memory-hogging processes.
I wrote a small program that malloc's 1 GB and writes to all of it. It
runs fine, even as root. It is slow because of swapping but the oom-
killer does not get invoked. So I am not sure what is special about
duplicity. It's an ordinary user-space backup utility written in
Python; it reads files, encrypts data, and sends it out over ssh. The
only thing I can think of is that it runs gpg to do the encryption, and
I believe gpg will mlock() some memory to keep keys secure, but that
should be a really small amount.

Happy to supply more information or test things.

[Bug 1658350] Re: Chromium Shows Flashing Black Squares in GPU Rendering

2017-01-28 Thread Richard
5 days uptime

Now I had this other recurring trouble where GNOME Shell has a garbage
collection-like freeze for a minute or so then proceeds at high cpu
load: nautilus-desktop and gnome-shell eating 100% each.

If you kill nautilus, desktop icons go away and the system appears to
continue. I think nautilus ends up crashing at those occasions if you
wait, but I don’t have a /var/crash file right now. There never any
logging.

When they make Wayland the default session, it’ll be worse than running
Linux on multi-gpu nVidia

The reason flashing appears on the chromium new tab page (looks like Google
search) is because the default doodle, some four colored dots, is a css3
accelerated transform like: transform: rotate(315deg); animation-delay: 880ms;

The other source of flashing is drawing tooltips which lots of html5
features produce

[Bug 1606974] Re: Quicklist menu action doesn't respect global delay (Zesty)

2017-01-28 Thread Khurshid Alam
@Jeremy

Is this really a upstream bug. This is for Unity-Quicklist which is patched by
Ubuntu.

See here: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/vivid
/gnome-screenshot/vivid-
proposed/view/head:/debian/patches/update_unity_list.patch

Same patch is being used for zesty as well. I created a separate patch
to overwrite that. (Or I can just modify "update_unity_list.patch" and
provide that as a new patch). But it's a Ubuntu's patch.

[Bug 1660098] [NEW] OOM with lots of free swap

2017-01-28 Thread Nate Eldredge
Public bug reported:

[Bug 1660093] [NEW] VirtualBox error - device helper structure version has changed

2017-01-28 Thread Humphrey van Polanen Petel
Public bug reported:

Cannot start a "saved" snapshot. Error details as follows:
--
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Windows XP.

The device helper structure version has changed.

If you have upgraded VirtualBox recently, please make sure you have
terminated all VMs and upgraded any extension packs. If this error
persists, try re-installing VirtualBox.
(VERR_PDM_DEVHLPR3_VERSION_MISMATCH).

[Bug 1635988] Re: Update nautilus to 3.22

2017-01-28 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

  Notable new features and changes:
  - The view menu has been consolidated into a single "hamburger" menu with a
separate toggle in the toolbar to switch between icon and list view.
  - Batch renaming is integrated. Just select multiple files then Rename.
  - File compression and decompression is integrated. This adds a dependency on
gnome-autoar (approved MIR bug 1635991 )
  - Nautilus standardized its coding style. This means that every Ubuntu patch
had to be rebased.

  https://csorianognome.wordpress.com/2016/08/31/nautilus-3-22-news-changes/
  https://git.gnome.org/browse/nautilus/tree/NEWS

- nautilus 3.22 is in the GNOME3 Staging PPA (currently for yakkety only)
+ nautilus 3.22 is in the GNOME3 Staging PPA

  To Do
  =
  - The interactive-search feature drops the first character typed. To select
the Downloads folder, I have to type 'ddow' instead of just 'dow'. The first
'd' opens the interactive-search edit field.
+
+ - Investigate the crash Rico reported related to the
+ interactive_search.patch probably not being rebased correctly

  - 0001-Respect-gtk-dialogs-use-header-for-all-dialogs.patch needs to be
updated. Currently, GNOME header bars are still used in these cases:
  + Batch Rename dialog
  + New Folder dialog

  - The "New Document" feature patch needs to be rewritten but this also
affects Nautilus 3.20 in Ubuntu 16.10 "yakkety" (bug 1632027 )

[Bug 130398] Re: Allow remounting of uncleanly unmounted XFS drive

2017-01-28 Thread lynysys
I have to add my voice to this as well. I have a large amount of data,
all stored on XFS partitions that I frequently hot swap between.

This bug totally invalidates all the great work that others have put
into the automount subsystems in kernel/userspace.

Behrooz, who are upstream maintainers do you know?

Let's resolve to at least make someone aware, because if the bug has
been present all this time, it has to be because upstream are not aware
of it.

Everyone affected, please give it a try and report back.

I think it should fix your issues too.

@Maintainers: This issue might duplicate

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1659922 and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1643200

or vice versa.

I'm optimistic that 1659988 fixes all of these apparmor related issues
(which is the reason I encourage everyone affected to try it out).

[Bug 1627239] Re: Web pages not rendering with e10s enabled and AppArmor profile in enforce mode

2017-01-28 Thread Thomas Mayer
@mikecaines-gmail This issue is apparmor related, whereas FF's apparmor
profile is part of the firefox package as demonstrated here (first file
is the apparmor profile):

http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/amd64/firefox/filelist

That said, this issue needs to be fixed in the firefox package and not
in the apparmor packages. There's no need to report it against apparmor.

[Bug 1660086] [NEW] Apparmor blocks firefox 51.0.1 reading /usr/share/distro-info/debian.csv

2017-01-28 Thread Thomas Mayer
Public bug reported:

When starting FF in console, console output reports:

PermissionError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/usr/share/distro-
info/debian.csv'

To reproduce this issue, please note that I first had to apparmor-
unblock python 3.5 to run into this issue (there's issue 1659988 for
that).

You'll find the full stacktrace attached.

The issue can be solved by unblocking FF's apparmor profile with a

/usr/share/distro-info/debian.csv r,

@chrisccoulson

Thanks. Please note that my patch is supposed to fix issues

- 1659922 apparmor blocking /dev/shm/org.chromium.[...]
- 1659988 apparmor blocking python 3.5
- 1495248 apparmor blocking blocks /dev/shm
- 1553712 apparmor blocking org.gtk.vfs.MountTracker
- 1628956 apparmor blocking /proc/[...]/net/arp
- 1643200 firefox showing black/white tabs (side effect of the fixes above)

I'm wondering why this has not been fixed earlier for a package like
firefox. Bugs were reported a long time ago whereas each of the fixes
was easy, and sometimes even suggested by the reporters.

Not only that: Every time a new major release of FF is released it seems
to be necessary to also test and adapt the apparmor profile. In the
future, that can and should be done _before_ releasing a firefox
package.

[Bug 1625780] Re: Secondary monitor menus not opening on mouseover

2017-01-28 Thread LAva
I think I figured out why the mouse over is not working on the second
monitor.

Unity creates a PanelView for each monitor, but all PanelViews register
a mouse tracker under the same name, so only the first one works.

This happens, because the PanelView uses the monitor number to generate
the panel name, which is not yet properly initialized in the
Constructor.

But even if it was know at this state, the monitor number can change
later, if the monitor setup is modified. Using the monitor number might
not be the best idea.

I exchanged the monitor number with a unique number and it looks like it
is working now.

The patch is attached and you can find it also here:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~lavalanche/unity/MultiMonitorTrackerFix/revision/4218

I'm not sure if this is the proper solution, but it might be first step
in fixing this issue.

It looks like the whole mouse tracker system has still some issues left. For
example: the unregister is never called, even if a PanelView is destroyed (as
far as I can tell).

[Bug 1660077] [NEW] Massive nm-applet memory leak on the Heap

2017-01-28 Thread Akiva
Public bug reported:

Looks like someone forgot to delete a pointer... I see a lot of "memory
leak" bugs, but they all have "Fix Released" associated with them, and
so I am going to report this.

Relevant Screenshot:

http://i.imgur.com/HuJrRab.png

That number ramps up massively when I click on my box revealing the
available networks.

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System ->
About Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 16.10
Release:16.10

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or
by checking in Software Center
network-manager | 1.2.4-0ubuntu1

3) What you expected to happen
Not causing my computer to freeze when it runs out of memory.

4) What happened instead
I have to reboot.

[Bug 1656399] Re: Unable to unlock session after suspend using lightdm-gtk-greeter.

2017-01-28 Thread Ian Bruntlett
It happens to me, too.
==
Something (big) cropped up. When I returned to my NetBook, the screen had
locked. Typed my password in. System then (visually) unlocked itself, paused
briefly and then locked me back out again. You can test this more quickly by
using the keyboard shortcut of CTRL+ALT+l

Naturally I thought I'd got the password wrong. Tried typing in the
password in upper case and it didn't do the above - it gave a red error
message, pretty much expected.

The only way I could get into a locked system again was to chose a
"Shutdown" menu option.

Played around with it for a bit. Managed to unlock the NetBook
successfully once - then it resumed its unhelpful behaviour.

And here are my system's details.

OK. Used your link and downloaded MD5SUMS and zesty-desktop-i386.iso. Ran
md5sum and it checked out OK:-
1c3f420bb80754bc3b31eb479d77e3b5 zesty-desktop-i386.iso

Used Startup Disc Creator on a 4GB USB flash drive.

Hardware used to install iso on:

Samsung NC10 - hawking
Intel Atom N270, 1.66GHz, 32-bit, 2GiB RAM, 149.05 GiB hard drive, no optical
drive, Ethernet and WiFi connections
Full details see here:- https://gist.github.com/21b61903871ee685fc79

Booted install media without Ethernet cable connected. Had to reboot
system after connecting Ethernet cable before it was happy to continue
the update. Opted for "Download updates while installing Lubuntu" and
"Install third-party software". Chose option to wipe hard drive and
install Lubuntu on top of it. Put in a hostname of "hawking" for this
NetBook. Installer said there was already another system on the network
called "hawking". Decided not to argue so named the system "hawking2".

Install completed successfully and asked for the (installation) storage
medium at a suitable time.

Rebooted system, logged in. The start/swift menu icon isn't present. Ran
Software Updater OK. Saw an email on lubuntu-devel complaining about
Firefox not working. On my NetBook, ran Firefox (version 50.1.0) ran
fine and I Googled "Hello World".

Normally I only use the "alternate" iso images and in the install I
repartition the hard drive manually. For some reason I did it a little
differently this time :)
