[Bug 1660598] Re: s390x boots degraded by default in z/vm
This can be resolved by cherrypicking: console-setup (1.142ubuntu5) yakkety; urgency=medium * debian/console-setup-linux.setvtrgb.service: add condition to only execute when /dev/tty0 exists. This is the same condition as used by getty@.service unit to prevent attempting setting up VT when none are present. This is a common case on serial only architectures and virtual machines. [Bug 1660597] [NEW] nova-compute-proxy charm does not enable any migration options
Public bug reported: libvirt and firewall modifications to enable live migration on zKVM nova compute node #=== Problem Description === When adding zKVM Nova nodes to a Canonical (Juju) installation of Openstack via the nova-compute-proxy charm, no configuration is made for guest migration. Errors in /var/log/nova.compute.log are of the sort: ERROR nova.virt.libvirt.driver Live Migration failure: Migration error: Your libvirt version does not support the VIR_DOMAIN_XML_MIGRATABLE flag or your destination node does not support retrieving listen addresses. In order for live migration to work properly you must either disable serial console or upgrade your libvirt version. I was able to enable live-migration, but it required a number of configuration changes; some of which are not recommended for a secure installation. Note that this only works for guests booted from cinder volumes where cinder is backed by LVM and iSCSI. See the attached document for steps to enable live migration between two zKVM Nova compute nodes. Ideally this would be something that is done automatically by the charm, but at a minimum this should be well documented in the charm so that a user would be able to implement it in a secure fashion if desired. #=== Steps to Reproduce #=== 1. Deploy OpenStack control plane via Canonical distribution (Juju) 2. Deploy at least 2 zKVM Nova compute nodes via nova-compute-proxy charm 3. Configure cinder for LVM+iSCSI 4. Deploy instance booted from a cinder volume 5. Attempt to perform live migration optional workaround: manually configure libvirtd and open the firewall, restart libvirtd and nova-compute #=== Host Details == #=== # hostname -f zs95kf # cat /etc/system-release KVM for IBM z Systems release 1.1.3-beta4.3 (Z) == Comment: #3 With Mitaka and Newton: Live-migration with enabled serial console is *sometimes* possible. The conditions are: * The serial console is enabled on source and target host * The target host *must not* have the same serial console ports in use as the to be migrated instance. The second point is a very long standing bug in Nova [1] which got recently fixed in Ocata [2]. Backports to Newton are proposed with [3]. With Ocata: Live migration with serial console is possible when the serial console is enabled on source and target host. The error message you see got introduced with [4] and gets raised at [5]. This message sugar coats the design decision to bind the serial console availability to the host (as config option), instead of the instance (with flavor or image extra specs). Upstream is open to change that, but it wasn't a priority item of anyone (including me). [Bug 1660588] [NEW] Password is not required upon returning from suspend
Public bug reported: Following the security settings (in Ubuntu System Settings) my system should require password upon waking from suspend or simply returning from a blank screen. Once it worked this very way, but starting a few months back (unfortunately, I cannot point exactly that moment) it stopped. The computer would seamlessly wake up from a suspend / a blank screen not requiring the password. I have two 16.04 systems (with quite different hardware specifications) - one suspends when inactive, the other one goes to the blank screen. Both suffer this scenario. [Bug 1660574] [NEW] IPv4 Address Lost 8 Days After Previous DHCP Allocation
Public bug reported: My Ubuntu 16.04 desktop frequently loses the IPv4 address on its wired ethernet connection to my office's network. This happened this morning and previously happened 8 days ago. The network uses a Windows Small Business Server as its main Active Domain Domain Controller which includes a DHCP service. There are several other Ubuntu 16.04 machines on the network that do not seem to experience this issue. This is an IPv4 only network, no IPv6 services are configures and IPv6 is disabled on most machines. My PC has two wired network ports. One connects to the office network and uses DHCP to get an IPv4 address. The other connects to a switch on my desk that has test equipment connected to it and uses a static IPv4 address. I have the output from: ll /var/lib/NetworkManager nmcli -p c nmcli -p c show TN\ Wired Taken; after the renewal of the address eight days ago, this morning before I "Disconnect"ed the connection from the drop down menu and after I reconnected and an IPv4 address was re-acquired. [Bug 1660570] [NEW] 'Screen Display' app fails to change resolution.
Public bug reported: In the 'Screen Display' app, it correctly detects my monitor and presents me with the option of its highest resolution '1920x1200 (16:10)'. If I select that option and click apply, something goes wrong. I get an error message or two indication some failure to apply the resolution, but it seems like the mouse is behaving as if the resolution has actually changed - ie all the UI elements aren't where they are visually and I have to move the mouse around seeing when the buttons become highlighted in order to click them. This had me believing that the graphics hardware in this (admittedly limited) laptop wasn't able to drive such a high resolution as a second monitor (even though I had disabled the laptop's one). However, after a while, I found out that simply unplugging the monitor, and plugging it back in again (in true IT Crowd fashion) fixed the problem and it all works 'just fine'. This fact, has me believing it is something wrong with the software, hence this bug report. The laptop is a Lenovo S10-3t, 1.9GiB RAM, Intel Atom CPU N450 @ 1.66GHz x 2, *Graphics is Intel Pineview M*, and disk is 155.3GB. OS is Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. (NB, it's quite irritating that I can't select that information from the 'Details' setting window!). Monitor is an HP L2335 : http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c00043201 but it behaves similarly with a BenQ GW2765HT LED IPS which isn't at my current location and I can't recall what resolution it fails at (but it was similar, and not the 2560x1440). The Lenovo S10-3t has a VGA output, and for the HP I am using a VGA-VGA cable, with a VGA-DVI adaptor into the monitor's DVI port. On the BenQ, I used a straight VGA-VGA cable into the monitor's VGA port. The behaviour was similar on both, so I figured this isn't important, but mention it anyway. maxw@Lenovo-S10-3t:~$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS Release:16.04 maxw@Lenovo-S10-3t:~$ apt-cache policy unity-control-center unity-control-center: Installed: 15.04.0+16.04.20160705-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 15.04.0+16.04.20160705-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 15.04.0+16.04.20160705-0ubuntu1 500 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial-updates/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 15.04.0+16.04.20160413-0ubuntu1 500 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages maxw@Lenovo-S10-3t:~$ ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: unity-control-center 15.04.0+16.04.20160705-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.4.0-59.80-generic 4.4.35 Uname: Linux 4.4.0-59-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.5 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Tue Jan 31 09:08:54 2017 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/unity-control-center InstallationDate: Installed on 2016-06-28 (216 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Release amd64 (20160420.1) ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, no user) SHELL=/bin/bash LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 LANGUAGE=en_GB:en XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= SourcePackage: unity-control-center UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: unity-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug xenial -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1660570 Title: 'Screen Display' app fails to change resolution.
