[Bug 1101037] Re: Rubbish bin (trash) launcher icon should be unlockable

2017-02-10 Thread Rob Havasy
Ahh, this takes me back to fondly remembered days of yore...with the
OS/2 shredder. Drag and drop was the new hotness and it was everywhere,
even for silly things like changing system fonts - and closing programs
and ejecting CD's whose icons were dropped on the shredder. It didn't
make sense then and it still doesn't.

But at least the shredder was removable from the launcher. ;)

[Bug 1600753] Re: System Settings missing icons

2017-02-10 Thread Anthony Buckley
Hello,
What I ended up doing was a bit ham-fisted I'm afraid. My user has its own
'bin' directory which I like to keep at the top of the PATH, so I created an
overriding shell script to set the XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP variable and then call
the system command thus:

cat gnome-control-center
#!/bin/sh

# A frontend to the system 'gnome-control-center' to set the
# XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP variable to GNOME. This ensures all icons appear.
# A bug has been logged for this issue.
# Only applies to xubuntu sessions

if [ "$DESKTOP_SESSION" = "xubuntu" ]
then
export XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME
fi

/usr/bin/gnome-control-center

exit 0

You could rename /usr/bin/gnome-control-center and then call that in an
override /usr/bin/gnome-control-center script as above in /usr/bin I
suppose, but I'd be a bit wary of this.

Regards

[Bug 1215504] Re: allow luks encrypted casper-rw persistent file (patch)

2017-02-10 Thread Glenn Washburn
An updated post of what needs to be done for yakkety (16.10) is at:
https://archimedesden.wordpress.com/2017/01/09/encrypted-persistent-ubuntu-livecd-16-10-redux/

It seems trivial to have this included in the iso. Most of the work of
figuring out what changes to make have been done, so what's the down-
side? It looks like recent isos do not include dm-crypt nor cryptsetup
as the blog post alludes to. So they need to be added back, but its not
that much extra data.

[Bug 1663794] [NEW] Poweroff/Reboot Hangs :: Ubuntu 16.04

2017-02-10 Thread Renê Barbosa
Public bug reported:

After upgrading my laptop (Dell Inspiron 5447) to Ubuntu 16.04 I saw
that I can not shut down or restart after a few hours using the system.
It hangs in Plymouth and stays that way until I force the shutdown by
pressing the On / Off button.

As this is a common bug (there are tons of questions on the Internet) I
tried to fix it, but none of my attempts were effective. Already tried:

1. Boot with acpi=force
2. Disable Swap
3. Run 'sync' before reboot or shutdown
4. Use another kernel version (4.7, 4.8, 4.9 and 4.10 from mainline)
5. Disabling USB 3.0
6. Disabling TLP

The most interesting thing is: I can shutdown/reboot normally using
14.04 and the kernel from Xenial HWE and it's because of that I believe
this is a systemd bug.

The problem can also be reached just running "halt" of "systemctl halt"
after booting 16.04 in this machine. Running these commands with "force"
option is working fine.

My Machine Specs:

Dell Inspiron 5447 - BIOS A10
Intel Core i5-4210 Processor
8 GB RAM
480 SSD Sandisk
Hybrid Graphics (i915/amdgpu - Radeon R7 M265)

--- BUG Information

Reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Power on the machine
2.Do something, anything or nothing for a few hours
3.Try to shutdown/reboot using halt, shutdown, reboot, etc

Actual Results:
The computer is not shutting down: "Reached target shutdown" and hangs there.

Expected Results:
Powering off/rebooting the machine.

[Bug 1663791] [NEW] rtl8812au-dkms fails to build on 16.10

Public bug reported:

Hi I have a Edimax AC 1200 adapter (EW-7822UAC). When I install the
package rtl8812au-dkms, it fails to build (kernel 4.8.0-37). On 16.04
this worked and my wifi was working, but after upgrade to 16.10, the
module fails to build. The make log can be found at

[Bug 1651199] Re: 16.04 - Kernel panic on docker server

Has this been fixed in any of the newer linux-image packages? I,
unfortunately, can't offer to test since I was only seeing this on my
production database server... For now I've just frozen my kernel
version to 4.4.0-38.

[Bug 1638395] Re: Unable to locate remote printer when printing

2017-02-10 Thread KeithG
Same here. Adding the line to /etc/hosts with the .local works. The printers
are automatically detected (as expected) and auto populate the printers. I did
not have to go to the cups web interface to add them. Without the .local, it
does not work.
Has worked with every release since 11.04. This is the first release that it
does not work correctly. Had to do this to both 16.10 computers on my network.

I was experiencing the exact same issue on my Precision 7510 under
Xenial, after transitioning to the rolling HWE & Kernel stack. On a
hunch I added the Canonical Kernel Team PPA (https://launchpad.net
/~canonical-kernel-team/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+packages) so I could
upgrade from kernel 4.8.0-36 to 4.8.0-37. Now shutdown and reboot are
working perfectly. Not sure if I should file a separate bug report.

[Bug 1663781] Re: package libcc1-0:amd64 5.4.0-6ubuntu1~16.04.4 failed to install/upgrade: package is in a very bad inconsistent state; you should reinstall it before attempting configuration

2017-02-10 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1376903] Re: Caps lock delay

2017-02-10 Thread Paul Seo
I would like to note that this bug is still being overlooked by the community.
It really is aggravating to know while Linux as a whole claims to be free and
open and customizable and user friendly due to the freedom to get what the
users want, anything that the majority does not use as much is just...
disregarded.

I have for almost 3 years of Linux used variants of the anti-caps lock delay
solution. The current one is :
https://github.com/HexValid/Linux-CapsLock-Delay-Fixer

However, recently while I started writing essays, I started noticing that this
never did fix the problem as a whole. In fact, there is a newer issue with this
anti-caps lock delay solution.
1. The delay of caps lock still does exist. In fact, unlike Windows and Mac,
Linux never seemed to have solved this issue fully. And it is noticeable if one
is a fast typer (I am around ~150 WPM during my natural typing for essays) and
from this speed, it gets frustrating since the caps delay issue becomes
noticeable even with the anti-caps-delay fixer from time to time.
2. This anti-caps-lock-delay actually affects keys outside the alphabets also.
In fact, if one types a ". , / ; [ ] \ " fast right after the caps lock like:
CAPSLOCK -> 'd' -> CAPSLOCK -> '.'
Instead of getting:
'D.'
I get:
'D>'
So basically a period becomes the shifted key of itself.

I really hope that this issue gets fixed because it is somewhat
embarrassing how the community was unable to fix this issue for years
now.

Considering this is probably rather very simple to fix, I don't understand why
the community has not fixed this issue.
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1556152
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2286420
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1410893
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1462333

http://superuser.com/questions/947087/how-do-you-eliminate-the-caps-lock-key-delay-on-ubuntu

And please don't give me the 'SHIFT' key argument. I have used CAPS LOCK for
all my life and considering I am able to type from 110~180 WPM with the CAPS
LOCK, I do not think it's a fair argument as some people are faster with CAPS
LOCK rather than SHIFT key.
Also, I have used Linux for being able to have the freedom to customize.
However, as this side is not my field of knowledge, I just really wish there
was an official patch to fix this rather minor but critical update.
The anti-caps-delay fixer by various people does not work fully and is most
noticeable with periods and commas and I would honestly like an official patch
on this. Windows and Mac has never had this issue.
Linux (no matter what distro) has always had this issue even after constant
forums for bug fixing.
I love Ubuntu and its customizability in the terminal but this everyday typing
is starting to quite bug me after years of Ubuntu usage.

[Bug 1169437] Re: network-manager does not configure local resolver or dnsmasq to use the nameserver addresses received from the VPN server

2017-02-10 Thread Tiago Peralta
Add this patch to debian/patches/
Add it to series after Support-IPv6-Servers.patch
Add usr/lib/NetworkManager/nm-openvpn-service-openvpn-helper-script
 to network-manager-openvpn.install

Rebuild package and test.

Although this is an ugly hack, it is working for me without modifying
nsswitch and/or disabling dnsmasq.

The only thing I had to do, was to restart network-manager service

Rebooted as well, and seems to be working

Hope this helps everyone

libvirt: fix nova can't delete the instance with nvram

Currently libvirt needs a flag when deleting an VM with a nvram file,
without which nova can't delete an instance booted with UEFI. Add
deletion flag for NVRAM. Also add a test case.

You may have trouble killing the processes running in this domain from
unconfined domains without going to some effort to replicate what
already provides for you. Give it a read and see what
else you may be missing.

Thanks

[Bug 1598300] Re: CUPS web interface stops responding after a while

2017-02-10 Thread Iiro Laiho
launchpad-groovix: I meant it's too late to do anything about that this
bug slipped into xenial in first place. Fixing the problem afterwards
however should be possible, if little more complicated, sorry for being
unclear. The #1642966 probably is fixable and there has been effort to
do that to the point there is a PPA that's supposed to contain the fix.
However, efforts to make it an official SRU seem to have been stalled
for since a month.

[Bug 1564778] Re: package libsane-common 1.0.25+git20150528-1ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/etc/sane.d/hp.conf', which is also in package libsane:i386 1.0.23-3ubuntu3.1

2017-02-10 Thread Nish Aravamudan
Hello and thank you for this update!

If I understand this correctly, the issue is when coming from Trusty, a
file is now owned by two packages.

A user would obviously experience this on Xenial during upgrade when the
new version of libsane-common gets installed.

But then they might also experience it on Y & Z if they choose to
resolve the issue on X by removing libsane-common on X, and release-
upgrade'ing instead, and then trying to install libsane-common again on
the new release and it fails agin. Except that libsane depends on
libsane-common, so I believe it would also be removed in that case. So,
IIUC, this cannot actually happen on Y or Z. You only need to modify
those versions so that they are after X for upgrade purposes from X?

Your fix is to ensure that (old) versions of libsane are removed so the
file conflict doesn't occur, is that correct? (note that all of these
questions will be necessary to satisfy
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates.)

Finally, I believe your X and Y versioning is a bit off. I tend to use
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/UpdatePreparation#Update_the_packaging
as my standard, and that would result in:

Z: 1.0.25+git20150528-1ubuntu3
Y: 1.0.25+git20150528-1ubuntu2.16.10.1
X: 1.0.25+git20150528-1ubuntu2.16.04.1

While your version is not incorrect, it assumes that release naming will
proceed forever alphabetically sorted forwards, which we (presumably)
know is not going to happen post-Z, so it's a good habit to break.

I am going to ask the -devel list about this, as I'm not sure what the
right way forward is (it feels weird to add to our delta just to allow
for the fixlet).

Thanks!
-Nish

P.S. In case you're interested, it seems like sane-backends could do
with a fresh merge to Debian unstable (last done in Wily!)

[Bug 1598300] Re: CUPS web interface stops responding after a while

2017-02-10 Thread Michael Pardee
(iiro) "Did you look the cups log to make sure that it really is the
same problem?"

Without any fixes I get these messages about 2 minutes after restarting
cups and cupsd is no longer running:

I [09/Feb/2017:04:08:47 -0600] Printer sharing is off and there are no jobs
pending, will restart on demand.
I [09/Feb/2017:04:08:47 -0600] Scheduler shutting down normally.

After installing the proposed updates or switching to
BrowseLocalProtocols dnssd those messages go away and cupsd stays
running and client print jobs don't fail with "Connection error:
Transport endpoint is not connected."

(iiro) "but it's now too late to do anything"
Assuming there is absolutely no way to fix bug 1642966, why not switch "-l" to
"-f" in /lib/systemd/system/cups.service as an official fix? Is that the only
way to completely disable this buggy feature?

low-level storage services like LVM) may still claim the disk even if
it's not partitioned; those should be eliminated as well as cause for
the issue.

[Bug 1663329] Re: [Sync Request] Sync nagios-nrpe (3.0.1-3) from Debian unstable (main)

2017-02-10 Thread Joshua Powers
** Description changed:

Please sync nagios-nrpe (3.0.1-3) from Debian unstable (main)

The Ubuntu package no longer has any required changes, all three current
deltas were dropped:
- * Two changes were related to enabling hardening to debian/rules. This was
merged into Ubuntu [1]
- * The third change is an extra erroneously added git diff file named 'xxx'.
This file is not necessary and should be removed/overridden.
+ * Two changes were related to enabling hardening to debian/rules. This was
merged into Debian [1]
+ * The third change is an extra erroneously added git diff file named 'xxx'.
This file is not necessary and should be removed/overridden.

The package from Debian was successfully built in a ppa [2]. My attempt
at a merge verified that the build hardening is enabled [3] and only
remaining changes were the change log and control file.

[Bug 1663763] [NEW] Firefox menu bar cannot be enabled

2017-02-10 Thread Nico Orrù
Public bug reported:

On Xubuntu/desktop 16.10

- Menu bar cannot be enabled in customize

This is a deal breaker. One of the main reasons why I use Firefox rather
than Chrome on Linux is the menu bar.

Should I use Chrome instead?

[Bug 1550210] Re: Desktop file does not open ImageMagick from the menu

2017-02-10 Thread Nish Aravamudan
It looks like, though, it was not fixed until
imagemagick/8:6.9.7.4+dfsg-1 in Debian and we're currently merged to
8:6.9.7.0+dfsg-2. Given how long we've been waiting to get even that
version though, let me check on how things look next week and see if we
can just re-merge to updated release from Debian before Feature Freeze.
Thanks!

[Bug 1598300] Re: CUPS web interface stops responding after a while

2017-02-10 Thread Iiro Laiho
launchpad-groovix: Weird. This "feature" shouldn't be active at all when
printer sharing is enabled. Did you look the cups log to make sure that
it really is the same problem?

And yes, this is a serious issue, but if you read the earlier messages,
you see that the fix will cause the bug 1642966 that will result the
breakage of some systems. This really should have been fixed before the
release of 16.04 xenial (or the patch that caused this maybe shouldn't
have been written in first place since it AFAIK solved a thing that was
not really a problem), but it's now too late to do anything to the fact
that it was not and it's now difficult to fix it since breakage of
systems that have a LTS release installed should be avoided.

[Bug 1622686] Re: double header in 16.10

2017-02-10 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Since it's reportedly fixed just by modifying the icon theme in SRUs,
let's not introduce changes to ubiquity now.

For yakkety; this is Won't Fix: we're not doing point-releases, so even
if it was available, it would not benefit many installs (given that
ubiquity would need to be on the ISO for the changes to apply to direct
installs (rather than live)).

For xenial, I'm applying the changes to the bzr branch for the next
ubiquity upload.

[Bug 1633649] Re: spl-dkms 0.6.5.6-0ubuntu4: spl kernel module failed to build

2017-02-10 Thread scotte
A clarification - this sort of issue will only occur when using the ZFS
dkms packages - zfs-dkms and spl-dkms. When using ubuntu kernel builds,
such as linux-image-4.8.0-34-generic, binary drivers are already
available in the linux-image-extra-4.8.0-34-generic.
