[Bug 1101037] Re: Rubbish bin (trash) launcher icon should be unlockable
Ahh, this takes me back to fondly remembered days of yore...with the OS/2 shredder. Drag and drop was the new hotness and it was everywhere, even for silly things like changing system fonts - and closing programs and ejecting CD's whose icons were dropped on the shredder. It didn't make sense then and it still doesn't. [Bug 1600753] Re: System Settings missing icons
Hello, What I ended up doing was a bit ham-fisted I'm afraid. My user has its own 'bin' directory which I like to keep at the top of the PATH, so I created an overriding shell script to set the XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP variable and then call the system command thus: cat gnome-control-center #!/bin/sh # A frontend to the system 'gnome-control-center' to set the # XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP variable to GNOME. This ensures all icons appear. # A bug has been logged for this issue. # Only applies to xubuntu sessions if [ "$DESKTOP_SESSION" = "xubuntu" ] then export XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME fi /usr/bin/gnome-control-center exit 0 You could rename /usr/bin/gnome-control-center and then call that in an override /usr/bin/gnome-control-center script as above in /usr/bin I suppose, but I'd be a bit wary of this. An updated post of what needs to be done for yakkety (16.10) is at: https://archimedesden.wordpress.com/2017/01/09/encrypted-persistent-ubuntu-livecd-16-10-redux/ It seems trivial to have this included in the iso. [Bug 1663794] [NEW] Poweroff/Reboot Hangs :: Ubuntu 16.04
Public bug reported: After upgrading my laptop (Dell Inspiron 5447) to Ubuntu 16.04 I saw that I can not shut down or restart after a few hours using the system. It hangs in Plymouth and stays that way until I force the shutdown by pressing the On / Off button. As this is a common bug (there are tons of questions on the Internet) I tried to fix it, but none of my attempts were effective. Already tried: 1. Boot with acpi=force 2. Disable Swap 3. Run 'sync' before reboot or shutdown 4. Use another kernel version (4.7, 4.8, 4.9 and 4.10 from mainline) 5. Disabling USB 3.0 6. Disabling TLP The most interesting thing is: I can shutdown/reboot normally using 14.04 and the kernel from Xenial HWE and it's because of that I believe this is a systemd bug. The problem can also be reached just running "halt" of "systemctl halt" after booting 16.04 in this machine. Running these commands with "force" option is working fine. My Machine Specs: Dell Inspiron 5447 - BIOS A10 Intel Core i5-4210 Processor 8 GB RAM 480 SSD Sandisk Hybrid Graphics (i915/amdgpu - Radeon R7 M265) --- BUG Information Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Power on the machine 2.Do something, anything or nothing for a few hours 3.Try to shutdown/reboot using halt, shutdown, reboot, etc Actual Results: The computer is not shutting down: "Reached target shutdown" and hangs there. Expected Results: Powering off/rebooting the machine. ** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "lspci-vnvn" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1663794/+attachment/4816886/+files/lspci-vnvn.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1663794 Title: Poweroff/Reboot Hangs :: Ubuntu 16.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1663794/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1376903] Re: Caps lock delay
I would like to note that this bug is still being overlooked by the community. It really is aggravating to know while Linux as a whole claims to be free and open and customizable and user friendly due to the freedom to get what the users want, anything that the majority does not use as much is just... disregarded. I have for almost 3 years of Linux used variants of the anti-caps lock delay solution. The current one is : https://github.com/HexValid/Linux-CapsLock-Delay-Fixer However, recently while I started writing essays, I started noticing that this never did fix the problem as a whole. In fact, there is a newer issue with this anti-caps lock delay solution. 1. The delay of caps lock still does exist. In fact, unlike Windows and Mac, Linux never seemed to have solved this issue fully. And it is noticeable if one is a fast typer (I am around ~150 WPM during my natural typing for essays) and from this speed, it gets frustrating since the caps delay issue becomes noticeable even with the anti-caps-delay fixer from time to time. 2. This anti-caps-lock-delay actually affects keys outside the alphabets also. In fact, if one types a ". , / ; [ ] \ " fast right after the caps lock like: CAPSLOCK -> 'd' -> CAPSLOCK -> '.' Instead of getting: 'D.' I get: 'D>' So basically a period becomes the shifted key of itself. I really hope that this issue gets fixed because it is somewhat embarrassing how the community was unable to fix this issue for years now. Considering this is probably rather very simple to fix, I don't understand why the community has not fixed this issue. https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1556152 https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2286420 https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1410893 https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1462333 http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/80441/caps-lock-delay-problem http://superuser.com/questions/947087/how-do-you-eliminate-the-caps-lock-key-delay-on-ubuntu And please don't give me the 'SHIFT' key argument. I have used CAPS LOCK for all my life and considering I am able to type from 110~180 WPM with the CAPS LOCK, I do not think it's a fair argument as some people are faster with CAPS LOCK rather than SHIFT key. Also, I have used Linux for being able to have the freedom to customize. However, as this side is not my field of knowledge, I just really wish there was an official patch to fix this rather minor but critical update. The anti-caps-delay fixer by various people does not work fully and is most noticeable with periods and commas and I would honestly like an official patch on this. Windows and Mac has never had this issue. Linux (no matter what distro) has always had this issue even after constant forums for bug fixing. I love Ubuntu and its customizability in the terminal but this everyday typing is starting to quite bug me after years of Ubuntu usage. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1376903 Title: Caps lock delay To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-keyboard/+bug/1376903/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

launchpad-groovix: I meant it's too late to do anything about that this bug slipped into xenial in first place. But then they might also experience it on Y & Z if they choose to resolve the issue on X by removing libsane-common on X, and release- upgrade'ing instead, and then trying to install libsane-common again on the new release and it fails agin. Except that libsane depends on libsane-common, so I believe it would also be removed in that case. So, IIUC, this cannot actually happen on Y or Z. You only need to modify those versions so that they are after X for upgrade purposes from X? Your fix is to ensure that (old) versions of libsane are removed so the file conflict doesn't occur, is that correct? (note that all of these questions will be necessary to satisfy https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates.) Finally, I believe your X and Y versioning is a bit off. I tend to use https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/UpdatePreparation#Update_the_packaging as my standard, and that would result in: Z: 1.0.25+git20150528-1ubuntu3 Y: 1.0.25+git20150528-1ubuntu2.16.10.1 X: 1.0.25+git20150528-1ubuntu2.16.04.1 While your version is not incorrect, it assumes that release naming will proceed forever alphabetically sorted forwards, which we (presumably) know is not going to happen post-Z, so it's a good habit to break. I am going to ask the -devel list about this, as I'm not sure what the right way forward is (it feels weird to add to our delta just to allow for the fixlet). Thanks! -Nish P.S. (iiro) "Did you look the cups log to make sure that it really is the same problem?" Without any fixes I get these messages about 2 minutes after restarting cups and cupsd is no longer running: I [09/Feb/2017:04:08:47 -0600] Printer sharing is off and there are no jobs pending, will restart on demand. (iiro) "but it's now too late to do anything" Assuming there is absolutely no way to fix bug 1642966, why not switch "-l" to "-f" in /lib/systemd/system/cups.service as an official fix? [Bug 1648561] Re: HTX (htxubuntu) DASD exercisers fail
Right, that's what I expected, but it's good to be sure. The bug is assigned to the kernel team, they will want to look into it. To further define the case, are these devices claimed by multipath or by mdadm? What does 'sudo multipath -ll' show? Multipath or mdadm (or other low-level storage services like LVM) may still claim the disk even if it's not partitioned; those should be eliminated as well as cause for the issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1648561 Title: HTX (htxubuntu) DASD exercisers fail To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1648561/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1550210] Re: Desktop file does not open ImageMagick from the menu
It looks like, though, it was not fixed until imagemagick/8:6.9.7.4+dfsg-1 in Debian and we're currently merged to 8:6.9.7.0+dfsg-2. Given how long we've been waiting to get even that version though, let me check on how things look next week and see if we can just re-merge to updated release from Debian before Feature Freeze. [Bug 1598300] Re: CUPS web interface stops responding after a while
launchpad-groovix: Weird. This "feature" shouldn't be active at all when printer sharing is enabled. Did you look the cups log to make sure that it really is the same problem? And yes, this is a serious issue, but if you read the earlier messages, you see that the fix will cause the bug 1642966 that will result the breakage of some systems. This really should have been fixed before the release of 16.04 xenial (or the patch that caused this maybe shouldn't have been written in first place since it AFAIK solved a thing that was not really a problem), but it's now too late to do anything to the fact that it was not and it's now difficult to fix it since breakage of systems that have a LTS release installed should be avoided. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1598300 Title: CUPS web interface stops responding after a while To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/1598300/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1663754] Re: Please merge from Debian
Updated the changelog to be zesty (sponsor-patch doesn't seem to like devel, even though I understand it to be valid) and I sponsored the patch. [Bug 1622686] Re: double header in 16.10
Since it's reportedly fixed just by modifying the icon theme in SRUs, let's not introduce changes to ubiquity now. For yakkety; this is Won't Fix: we're not doing point-releases, so even if it was available, it would not benefit many installs (given that ubiquity would need to be on the ISO for the changes to apply to direct installs (rather than live)). For xenial, I'm applying the changes to the bzr branch for the next ubiquity upload. ** Changed in: ubiquity (Ubuntu Yakkety) Status: New => Won't Fix ** Changed in: ubiquity (Ubuntu Xenial) Status: New => In Progress ** Changed in: ubiquity (Ubuntu Xenial) Assignee: (unassigned) => Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre (cyphermox) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1622686 Title: double header in 16.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/humanity-icon-theme/+bug/1622686/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1633649] Re: spl-dkms 0.6.5.6-0ubuntu4: spl kernel module failed to build
A clarification - this sort of issue will only occur when using the ZFS dkms packages - zfs-dkms and spl-dkms. When using ubuntu kernel builds, such as linux-image-4.8.0-34-generic, binary drivers are already available in the linux-image-extra-4.8.0-34-generic. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1633649 Title: spl-dkms 0.6.5.6-0ubuntu4: spl kernel module failed to build To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/spl-linux/+bug/1633649/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
