[Bug 1550539] Re: VMWare network interface name change with wily → xenial upgrade

2017-02-10 Thread Amos Hayes
I just encountered this bug today when upgrading from a fully updated
14.04 server to 16.04 using do-release-upgrade. My static IP configured
in /etc/network/interfaces was configured to come up on eth0. Logging in
on the console and replacing eth0 with ens32 in that interfaces file and
rebooting fixed things.

Erreur lors de la copie du fichier dans «

This error was when I copied and empty folder. Although speaking of file
instead of a dir.
There may be or not an error : the french string is /Mémoire de stockage
interne/Music.
Although copy succeeds when catching files without a parent directory.

[Bug 1663537] Re: window manager crashes on loading

2017-02-10 Thread Sofía
The issue was caused by gdk-pixbuf being unable to recognize the file
format of the theme image files (or of any image file).

This seems to have been caused by the creation of a
/usr/local/share/applications directory and files in it with incorrect
permissions by the Makefile of Anki 2.0.41

when run with sudo and an inappropriate umask (0027).

Please find enc a patch that resolves this bug.

AndyRock via IRC #ubuntu-devel 10/02/17 suggested this fix. I have
slightly altered this so that the the remove ptr line is within the
weak-ptr if clause otherwise the weak-ptr function would crash where the
ptr does not actually exist.

[Bug 1663747] [NEW] unity_inspector_get_unity_running improperly returns true on KDE 5.6

2017-02-10 Thread Thomas Anderson
Public bug reported:

Chromium uses unity_inspector_get_unity_running to determine if
close/minimize/maximize buttons are hidden when in a maximized state.
https://cs.chromium.org/chromium/src/chrome/browser/ui/libgtkui/unity_service.cc?rcl=0ddb4374a9221dba28e9ea8a1edaacb32dcc0861=124

libunity checks if the com.canonical.Unity Dbus service is created and
uses that as the return value for unity_inspector_get_unity_running.
(see src/unity-inspector.vala)

KDE Plasma 5.6 supports the unity launcher API and creates a
com.canonical.Unity service. Even though unity is certainly not
running, UnityInspector thinks it is.

[Bug 1663749] [NEW] Backport "libdpkg: Only preallocate disk size for files bigger than 16 KiB".

2017-02-10 Thread Vinson Lee
Public bug reported:

Please backport upstream dpkg patch "libdpkg: Only preallocate disk size
for files bigger than 16 KiB" to xenial, yakkety, and zesty versions of
dpkg.

dpkg 1.17.11 commit "dpkg: Try to preallocate the disk size for
extracted files" causes installs of packages with many small files to be
slow.
https://anonscm.debian.org/git/dpkg/dpkg.git/commit/?id=87b0b20b86407baf1deb4e91b3fd839e01228ac8

This was fixed in dpkg 1.18.15 with "libdpkg: Only preallocate disk size
for files bigger than 16 KiB".
https://anonscm.debian.org/git/dpkg/dpkg.git/commit/?id=a971ad91437af8880cad4703695dcf12ee45959b

trusty dpkg is based off 1.17.5 and is not affected. xenial dpkg based
off 1.18.4, yakkety dpkg based off 1.18.10, and zesty dpkg based off
1.18.10 need the fix.

[Bug 1656605] Re: No server console display after Grub screen until fully booted and pressing Ctrl-Alt-F1/8

2017-02-10 Thread Joseph Salisbury
There was never a 3.14 based Ubuntu kernel released, so we may be at the
two bisectable versions.

Can you confirm 3.13.0-9.29 is goood:
https://launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel-team/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+build/5589423

If 3.13.0-9.29 is good, I can bisect between 3.13.0-9.29 and 3.15.0-0.1
and start building test kernels.

[Bug 1663727] Re: 16.04.2 LTS (4.4.0-62-generic) now spewing EDID vga radeon errors

2017-02-10 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1663727/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1663576] Re: weather applet crashes on logout

2017-02-10 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1663685] Re: package mythtv-common 2:0.28.0+fixes.20160413.15cf421-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2017-02-10 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that a package failed to install due to a segmentation fault in
the application being used for the package installation process.
Unfortunately, this bug report isn't very useful in its current state
and a crash report would be much more useful. Could you try recreating
this issue by enabling apport to catch the crash report 'sudo service
apport start force_start=1' and then trying to install the same package
again? This process will create a new bug report so I am marking this
one as Invalid. Thanks again for helping out!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1663737] [NEW] --execute changes following -h to --help

2017-02-10 Thread Gary Filipski
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
Release:16.04

gnome-terminal:
  Installed: 3.18.3-1ubuntu1
  Candidate: 3.18.3-1ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 3.18.3-1ubuntu1 500
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Create a bash script called echoParams.sh somewhere in your current path
(attached):

#!/bin/bash
for param in "$@"
do echo "param '$param'"
done
echo -n "Enter to finish..."
read junk

Execute the following:

$ gnome-terminal --execute echoParams.sh -h

In a new terminal window the output is:

param '--help'
Enter to finish...

... meanwhile, back at the command line:

$ which gnome-terminal
/usr/bin/gnome-terminal

$ gnome-terminal --version
GNOME Terminal 3.18.3

The '-h' is being translated and passed as '--help'

... which is no help at all if the --execute command expects '-h'.

All puns intended.

[Bug 1663727] [NEW] 16.04.2 LTS (4.4.0-62-generic) now spewing EDID vga radeon errors

2017-02-10 Thread Zachary Burns
Public bug reported:

I've just performed an "apt-get update" on a Dell 2950 Server - which
was already running 16.04.1 and now it's spewing EDID errors - I'm not

I've attached dmesg to this, but basically it's dumping the following in
logs and to the screen.

[Bug 1600136] Re: App indicator does not show icon for Qt apps or with custom icons

2017-02-10 Thread Treviño
** Description changed:

Snaps that use the app indicator area via Qt can't display their icon
  there.

  Steps to reproduce and screenshot:
  https://github.com/nuttyartist/notes/pull/77

  Some research:

  - Uses http://doc.qt.io/qt-5/qsystemtrayicon.html
  - The indicator icon is created under /tmp under a randomly generated
directory name

  didrocks mentions also:

  1. The application says "this is my menu, and here is my icon at that
address", the address being /tmp/blablabla
  2. appindicator receives the bus messages
  3. and says "let's have a look at this icon at that address"
  4. BUT! /tmp in the snap is different form system /tmp
+
+

+
+ SRU bug for libappindicator:
+
+ [Impact]
+
+ Indicator icons pointing to a position inside the snap aren't properly
+ found by unity, that shows a "missing icon" emblem
+
+ [Test case]
+
+ * Download this yaml file http://pastebin.com/raw/FpEvQYGN and save it as
snapcraft.yaml
+ in any folder you want
+ * Run:
+ - snapcraft prime
+ - sudo snap try prime
+ - snap run gtk3-appindicator
+
+ An indicator should open (with proper icon), then if you select "Custom
+ Themed Icon" from its menu, you should see a proper icon.
+
+ When snaps are generated in non updated systems, the icon will be still
+ missing.
+
+ [Regression potential]
+
+ If $SNAP is defined for an app not running in snap confinement the icons
+ couldn't be properly visible

Not sure. I'll have a look when you're done. I'll probably pull it in as
a patch, to avoid dragging in the entire second copy of the history.

My branch only has ubuntu history starting from when I got involved
(around 2.4.40) - made one attempt at importing the bzr history into git
but it didn't go well.

Looks like build 3.15.0-0.1 still has the issue. It also would not boot

Purged back off.

So, into the 3.14's next?

* Enable ARM64 support in kexec-tools (LP: #1659618)
* Enable support for compressed kernels on ARM64 (LP: #1661363)

[Bug 1663713] [NEW] radsecproxy in xenial cannot receive connections when syncookies are disabled

2017-02-10 Thread Fabiano Losilla
Public bug reported:

This bug was already reported and fixed upstream, but the fix is not
available in the Ubuntu package yet:
https://project.nordu.net/browse/RADSECPROXY-72

In short, kernel since change
http://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/patch/?id=ef547f2ac16bd9d77a780a0e7c70857e69e8f23f
(e.g. kernel in Xenial) will not accept connections when the listen
backlog parameter is zero and syncookies are disabled.

Activating UFW causes syncookies to be disabled. If UFW is enabled, this
behavior persists until UFW is disabled AND the system is rebooted.

Below there is a patch adding the fix to the package currently available
in Xenial:

https://launchpadlibrarian.net/305939567/radsecproxy_1.6.5-1build1_1.6.5-1build1+ppa0.diff.gz

This fix is also available in our PPA
https://launchpad.net/~ufscar/+archive/ubuntu/radsecproxy

We are currently using this package in production and it is working
correctly.

** Affects: radsecproxy (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Confirmed

Ah ok, do you want me to send the patches via git to you there? The
Server Team has adopted
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/Merging/GitWorkflow) for
Ubuntu merges so we have our own tree (that's tracking the archive(s)
for Ubuntu & Debian). But I am happy to send a patch or pull request
anywhere as you would like.

Good to know!

Note that in the process of doing the merge, I think I found a bit of
delta that is actually missing. The last several merges have mentioned
d/rules installing the apport hook (added in 2.4.23-0ubuntu1), but I
believe that it got accidentally dropped on the next merge to Debian
(2.4.23-6ubuntu1) and no one has noticed since -- note that this is a
good reason to use the above workflow, as the d/changelog mentioned
delta that I couldn't find! Can you confirm that you see the same. I'll
fix this in the new merge (but does mean, I think apport for openldap
has been broken for a long time).

[Bug 1273524] Re: LXDE guest session shows error message "no session for pid "

2017-02-10 Thread George Hawkins
I have experienced this problem trying to start lxde using the TightVNC
vncserver from systemd.

The process with the displayed PID is always lxsession.

I resolved it by adding PAMName=login to my unit file.

This suggestion came from https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/42425

Note: I did not have to specify "-fg" to vncserver, as also suggested in
this bug (this option is anyway not supported by TightVNC).

[Bug 1246364] Re: update-notifier does not show a tray icon in xubuntu

2017-02-10 Thread Forest
Clarification: I split my changes into two patches. They both still work
on the latest release.

My patches simply restore code that was removed a while back, so it's
pretty safe to consider them already-tested. They don't change the
default behavior, so applying them shouldn't affect current users unless
they specifically enable the restored functionality.

In other words, these patches should be fairly easy to validate and safe
to apply.

[Bug 1663020] Re: When I suspend the computer and try to wake it, the keyboard's backlight goes on and the power light turns on, but the screen stays black. I have to hard reset the computer to get it

2017-02-10 Thread Sam Youngs
After I submitted this report, I upgraded to kernel 4.6 to see if that
helped. It did not, but when I upgraded to Ubuntu 16.10, the bug
resolved itself.

[Bug 1246364] Re: update-notifier does not show a tray icon in xubuntu

2017-02-10 Thread Forest
The solution here is to convince the package maintainers that WE NEED
THEM TO FIX THIS BUG.

My patch still works on the latest release. ALL THEY NEED TO DO IS
APPLY IT.

I occasionally update my PPA for the release that I run myself
(currently Xubuntu yakkety), but expecting me to do maintain a parallel
distribution of update-notifier is not a realistic solution.
