[Bug 1663548] Re: fwupd crashed with SIGSEGV in _int_malloc()

2017-02-22 Thread Iain Lane
Mario,

Just tried your commits (on top of the Debian pkg) and they seem to fix
the crash for me. I tried on an XPS 13 9350 and on a random desktop
machine. The problem also happened for me in a VM. I didn't try that
patch in there, but that might be a good way for you to try the error
path.

I also didn't try a success path because I don't have hardware for that
- assuming you will.

Cheers for working on this. Please upload if your testing also looks
good. :-)

This changelog is wrong

+- still keep patches:
+ 04_Fix_leaks_of_Pango_objects.patch: fix a leak issue in pango's
create_layout()
+ 05_Fix_GdkColor_pixel_parse.patch: Fix bus error on sparc64.
+ Closes: #839867.
+ * Dropped changes:
+- Remove bugzilla_leak_fix.patch (included in Debian
04_Fix_leaks_of_Pango_objects.patch)
+
+ -- FanJun Kong Fri, 07 Oct 2016 23:19:34 +

The remaining changes should describe the changes that are left over.
Neither of those listed changes are changes that Ubuntu will be applying
on top of Debian. The only one you're leaving is the gnome -> adwaita
icon theme change.

The date and the release are wrong.

[Bug 1666676] Re: Enable tracker by default for Unity too

2017-02-22 Thread Carlos Garnacho
With my obvious tracker maintainer bias, I support the move. Tracker has
been slowly but steadily improving in stability throughout the 1.x
series, the common complains about CPU and logging have decreased as
well from where I stand. Although I also suggest you have a look at the
settings and see if vendor overrides might make sense for your users.

Tracker is heading now to 1.12.x which according to the current plan
will be the last 1.x release series (in preparation for 2.x), it will
remain feature frozen but still open to stability and performance
improvements.

Khurshid: zeitgeist and tracker have little in common. Zeitgeist is
about activity tracking, Tracker for these purposes is a filesystem
indexer. The usecase being discussed here is nautilus indeed, but having
tracker by default could make other gnome apps that strongly rely on
Tracker work on Unity, like gnome-music or gnome-documents.

[Bug 1666884] [NEW] libytnef: February 2017 multiple vulnerabilities (X41-2017-002)

2017-02-22 Thread Jeremy Bicha
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2017/02/15/4

https://github.com/Yeraze/ytnef/pull/27/files

Upstream calls this X41-2017-002 but there will probably be CVE numbers
assigned too.
https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/TEMP-000-8B3E01

Fixed in zesty. I'd like to copy the Debian stable security patches when
it's released there.

Quoting from the oss-security post…

Summary and Impact
--
Multiple Heap Overflows, out of bound writes and reads, NULL pointer
dereferences and infinite loops have been discovered in ytnef 1.9 an
earlier.
These could be exploited by tricking a user into opening a malicious
winmail.dat file.

Product Description
---
ytnef offers a library and utilities to extract the files from winmail.dat
files. winmail.dat files are send by Microsoft Outlook when forwarding files
via e-mail. The vendor was very responsive in providing a patched version.

Analysis

Due to the big amount of issues found no detailed analysis is given here.
Almost all allocations were unchecked and out of bounds checks rarely
performed in the code.

In total 9 patches were generated for the following issues:

1. Null Pointer Deref / calloc return value not checked
2. Infinite Loop / DoS
3. Buffer Overflow in version field
4. Out of Bound Reads
5. Integer Overflow
6. Invalid Write and Integer Overflow
7. Out of Bounds read
8. Out of Bounds read and write
9. Directory Traversal using the filename

[Bug 1512120] Re: [SRU] thunar crashes on file renaming

2017-02-22 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
The contents of the uploads look ok but the version numbers for the SRUs
are wrong (the SRU version number should always be smaller than the
released devel version, so it needs to be 1.6.11-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 etc.)
- but now worries, I'll correct those myself before doing the final
queue approval. This microrelease fixes a few more bugs and doesn't
carry proper autopkgtesting so I'll need to reach out to a TB member for
a green light (possibly).

seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you

Oh, and you can use `appstreamcli get org.winehq.wine' to verify that
appstreamcli sees the right thing.

Note that if this is right then it does *not* mean that gnome-software
will report the same data. It's just to check that the data has been
downloaded onto the system properly. appstreamcli is provided by
src:appstream (AFAIK used by Discover, but maybe not in 16.04), but
gnome-software uses src:appstream-glib to parse the appstream, as well
as doing its own manipulations.

[Bug 1590561] Re: webbrowser-app crashes on startup on fresh zesty Unity8: No suitable EGL configs found

2017-02-22 Thread Jamie Strandboge
For the ibus denial you need:
  #include

For nvidia, you need:
  #include
  @{PROC}/driver/nvidia/params r,
  /dev/nvidia* rw,
  unix (send, receive) type=dgram peer=(addr="@nvidia[0-9a-f]*"),

(the apparmor abstraction needs to be updated for newer nvidia).

What happens if you add the above to the profile (and reload the profile
with 'sudo apparmor_parser -r /path/to/profile')?

[Bug 1666869] [NEW] QGuiApplication::layoutDirection() is always Qt::LeftToRight

2017-02-22 Thread Adnane Belmadiaf

While working on fixing the iconprovider to load -rtl icons i saw that
QGuiApplication::layoutDirection() is always Qt::LeftToRight and never
changes even if the gallery layout changes to RTL, i think the layout
changes are only applied to the elements rather that application.

[Bug 1666843] Re: Regular recoverable disconnections over SAMBA on OSX clients

2017-02-22 Thread Eric Altman
** Description changed:

On Ubuntu 16.04.02 running SAMBA 4.3.11, various OS X (or macOS now)
clients have issues with our SAMBA server which uses ZFS as the
  filesystem.

During their regular work, it seems nothing that can be pinned down,
every share the system is connected to will disconnect with a
notification from macOS. This occurs on our Yosemite, El Cap, and Sierra
clients. The systems can be remounted immediately without needing a
  reboot or resetting services.

This happens anywhere between once and many times a day, but there is
not a day that goes by where it doesn't happen once.

The ZFS pool is basic but large (10 pools of 10 disks in a z2), and
there is a 128GB of ram dedicated to caching. There have been no
reported issues with ZFS that I can see. No errors, missing devices,
corruption, etc... The pool is set xattr=sa.

As you can see from the attached smb.conf, fruit is active and
configured. We have tried countless variations of the smb.conf but COULD
have missed something, so invite enquiries there.

+ More details: The server is connected over a lagged connection to a
+ switch then served to the clients. Some clients are connecting through a
+ Dell switch and some through a Supermicro switch, both with their own
+ LAG. This doesn't seem to matter.

TBH it's up to you. If you're saying this is a partial fix but doesn't
fix the main part of the problem for you then you can either release
this SRU and do another one to fix the rest of it, or block this one. It
doesn't really matter to me.

I would appreciate it if someone could help out on figuring out what the
problem is here though. Is it something to do with deleting the password
when you go to ACT_USER_PASSWORD_MODE_NONE? If so, what's the right
thing to do? And also, what happens if you operate on a user other than
the current one?

[Bug 1666859] [NEW] keyboard navigation in app menus not working the first time it is created

2017-02-22 Thread Michael Zanetti
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

* Start Kate (or any other app with nested app menus)
* open some menu using the keyboard (e.g. in Kate, Alt+T for Tools)
* use the keyboard to navigate down to an entry that has a submenu
* press "right"

=> the first time such a submenu is created, the keyboard focus doesn't
move to the submenu but stays in the parent menu. It works fine on the
second attempt.

[Bug 1666855] [NEW] Grub2 installation failed when trying to install Ubuntu Zesty Alpha

2017-02-22 Thread the_mechanical
Public bug reported:

Tried to install Ubuntu Zesty Alpha (DVD-Image on USB-disk, created under
Ubuntu 15.10 with Startup-Disk creator [or how it is named] ).
Configuration:
AMD64, Started USB-Installation in UEFI-Mode
Disk 1 - SSD (Win7 only, has it's own boot manager there)
Disk 2 - SSD (one new partition for Zesty, one existing for Wiley, GPT
Partition table)
Target for Grub was Disk 2 (/deb/sdb)
Disk 3 - HDD

At the moment I'm switching between the systems with chosing the boot-hard-disk
at boot. So starting win I chosse Disk 1, starting Linux is Disk 2.
At the end I want to boot Grub from Disk 2 with an entry to Win7 - but for the
first i need a running Zesty ;-)

BIOS:
Secure boot is off
Fast boot is off

Can't tell you if it was possible at the end, at the moment I'm still in
Installation-Mode, Firefox opened after sending the bug.
Will try to solve it before reboot.

For Information - I'm not a linux-expert, "only" an advanced user
(little terminal knowledge, able to compile easy stuff from source *gg*)

2017-02-22 Thread Elias Abacioglu
Public bug reported:

don't really know if this is a resize2fs problem or a grub problem.
But we discovered it when trying to cloud-init bootstrap a node with larger
than 2 TB disk.

Create a virtual or a physical node with more than 2TB disk.
install ubuntu cloud image on disk.
boot and let cloud init run it's course, after that grub2 os-probe will fail
with this error message:
grub-probe: error: unknown filesystem.

Have tested this in both trusty and xenial

** Affects: grub2 (Ubuntu)

Ok, the workaround with commenting out PrivateUsers=yes from
/lib/systemd/system/fwupd.service worked here, too, on the 17.04 on the
Lenovo Thinkpad x230.

fuwpd is not crashing anymore. But i dont really know what the
consequences of this workaround are.

[Bug 1645503] Re: System crashes randomly when Konsole is active

2017-02-22 Thread Chrisitan
I was using Konsole every time the system crashed. Same thing happened
when I was using dolphin with an active terminal. Gwenview might have
been opened (in the background) as well.

I recently switched to QTerminal and have not had a single crash since
then, not sure if it was fixed in recent updates.

not only that but past a certain size it doesn't even rearanges the
files, so a lot of files are not in the view, probably that's why the
scroolbar don't appear because they are not in view, it's like the view
is clipped

webbrowser-app and all other Qt apps trying to get an EGL handle, via Mir
then.

This means : should the policy be updated to have all Qt apps get this
access level ? or should that stay as a per-app decision ?

[Bug 1666413] Re: linux-image-hwe-16.04 depends on linux-generic-hwe-16.04-edge

2017-02-22 Thread Andy Whitcroft
The issue here is that in both examples you are using the wrong package
name:

  sudo apt install linux-generic-hwe.16.04
  /usr/bin/apt-get --quiet --assume-yes \
--option=Dpkg::options::=--force-unsafe-io \
--option=Dpkg::Options::=--force-confold \
install linux-generic-hwe.16.04

The correct package name is linux-generic-hwe-16.04. By using a non-
existant package but using regular-expression characters (.) you are
triggering pattern match mode. Apt even tells you this in your manual
update:

  Note, selecting 'linux-generic-hwe-16.04-edge' for regex
'linux-generic-hwe.16.04'

[Bug 1666843] [NEW] Regular recoverable disconnections on OSX clients

2017-02-22 Thread Eric Altman
Public bug reported:

[Bug 1596698] Re: Strange font issue after awakening from suspend

2017-02-22 Thread Martin Weis
Here I have the same issues, usually after suspend.
Had it on the mate-Desktop too, so it might not be very gnome3-specific.

There are some messages in the syslog, maybe that can help to further
dig into a direction?
