2017-03-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Strangely iotop is showing unity-system-compositor's "Mir/Comp" thread
is one of the top disk writers. If that's the problem then USC holding
on to bypass frames too long would explain it.

[Bug 1670686] Re: [FFE] DPDK: fix i40e poll mode driver on ppc64el

2017-03-09 Thread Andy Whitcroft
These two fixes (bug 1670686 and bug 1670689) represent bringing a feature
to ppc64el. The feature patches look small, self-contained and specific
to the ppc64el architecture. The new code is upstream and backported to
the zesty version. It brings feature parity to ppc64el.

Regression potential is very limited as the changes are architecture specific
utilising a h/w feature only available on ppc64el. Existing architectures
should be unmodified and ppc64el (as stated above) is a new architecture here
so there is no regression potential their either.

The package with these patches has passed dep8 testing (marginal value)
and manual testing both for the new ppc64el packages and on amd64 (an
existing architecture).

This is a new feature which will be a tech-preview in zesty, so we have
time to iterate should there be any issues. The ubuntu-server team and
IBM are committed to bug fixing this support.

Acking (on behalf of the release-team) for upload to zesty-proposed.

2017-03-09 Thread Steve Langasek
This is fine for inclusion in 17.04, but to SRU it into 16.04 we would
need more information about why, specifically, this is needed. Is opal-
prd unstable? Are there specific cases where it's known to crash?

[Bug 1592232] Re: USA: Meizu Pro 5 changes from cellular carrier to "Denied" (AT&T and T-Mobile)

2017-03-09 Thread W Mauldin
If I change to a different APN, let it connect, then change back to the
original APN, then it works.

I have to do this when I start the phone. This didn't use to be the
case. Some change on the cell networks' parts?

I have AT&T, by the way.

2017-03-09 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Thanks for the hint, Khurshid.

The env XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=Unity:Unity7 breaks some applications.

Both slack-desktop and skypeforlinux are are missing because of this env
var.

Export XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=Unity in their desktop files can bring their
indicators back.

[Bug 1670686] Re: [FFE] DPDK: fix i40e poll mode driver on ppc64el

2017-03-09 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
** Description changed:

+ [FFE]
+ IMHO not fully being an FFE, but wanted to double check as we are really late
in the cycle. The doc says "f you have doubts about if something qualifies,
check with a member of ubuntu-release (or subscribe ubuntu-release to the bug)".
+ Background of this is that we enabled DPDK (and openvswitch-dpdk) for ppc64el
in the zesty cycle. IBM committed to work on upstream to make this better
supported. Part of that is work is the patch in this bug (and its sibling bug
1670689). That will make more of the HW available on power working properly
with DPDK.
+ For FFE ack speaks:
+ - essentially it is "fixing" the i40e driver to work on ppc64el
+ - only minimally touching other arches
+ - without it the new ppc64el enablement is a bit of a lackluster
+ Against FFE:
+ - On some Point of views one could argue that this is a "feature" and it is
too late (which is why I made this an FFE to get an ack)

[Bug 1670689] Re: [FFE] DPDK: fix vfio-pci poll mode driver probing on ppc64el

2017-03-09 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Also x86 based tests completed on these:
- dep8 anyway via the bileto build
- testpmd tests
- openvswitch-dpdk performance tests
- openvswitch-dpdk tuned performance tests
- endurance start-stop dpdk using guests
- endurance add remove dpdk ports

Also as mentioned
http://dpdk.org/browse/dpdk/commit/?id=0fe9830b53452a6747cae9ff1a6bfc737b839a9d
is upstream already in the main repo.

That said I think all is ready for pushing to proposed now, except an
ack for the little remaining FFE character on this - pinging release
Team in IRC about it to speed that up.

sudo apt-get install -f
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
BUT it still won't allow an upgrade or software upgrade

HELP

note: please use small words to help me. NOOB major NOOB with brain

[Bug 1629251] Re: Some app-indicators not showing menus

2017-03-09 Thread Khurshid Alam
Dropbox won't show any menu if it starts as old systray menu. Under
Unity (Ubuntu >=17.04) it has to start as appindicator.

env XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=Unity dropbox start -i

It should also work for other desktop-environment which also uses
indicator-applet like gnome-flashback session.
