[Bug 1677468] [NEW] canonical-livepatch - regular log messages: 'No snaps to auto-refresh found'

2017-03-29 Thread Dominic Raferd
Public bug reported:

Am I the only person to be finding that since 14 March 2017, and on two
separate machines both running Ubuntu 16.04.2 and using canonical-
livepatch, there are regular messages (every few hours) in syslog like
this:

2017-03-29 21:14:45 dl1 snapd[926]: 2017/03/29 21:14:45.298023 snapmgr.go:508:
No snaps to auto-refresh found
2017-03-29 21:14:45 dl1 /usr/lib/snapd/snapd[926]: snapmgr.go:508: No snaps to
auto-refresh found
2017-03-30 02:59:45 dl1 snapd[926]: 2017/03/30 02:59:45.357187 snapmgr.go:508:
No snaps to auto-refresh found
2017-03-30 02:59:45 dl1 /usr/lib/snapd/snapd[926]: snapmgr.go:508: No snaps to
auto-refresh found

On both machines the reference is to snapmgr.go:508, and on both
machines my snap list is:

$ sudo snap list
Name Version Rev Developer Notes
canonical-livepatch 722canonical -
core 16-2 1441 canonical -

Package version:
$ sudo apt-cache policy snapd
snapd:
  Installed: 2.22.6
  Candidate: 2.22.6
  Version table:
 *** 2.22.6 500
500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial-updates/main amd64
Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 2.0.2 500
500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages

The first of these messages was at 2017-03-14 18:47:06 GMT whereas I
have been using canonical-livepatch (and hence snapd) for several
months. Another machine which does not use canonical-livepatch, and has
no snaps installed, does not (of course) show these messages. The only
snaps I use are for canonical-livepatch so I can't comment on whether
the messages would occur if other snaps were in use and not canonical-
livepatch.

Also on 2017-03-14, but not subsequently, there was/were some sort of update of
snapd which shows up many messages in syslogd including these:

linux/4.4.0-66-generic.

There are no later messages about 'started snapd'. Despite these
messages, apt-cache policy suggests I am running snapd 2.22.6

The auto-refresh messages suggest something is wrong, since I *do* have
snaps that should be auto-refreshing, but maybe they are just advisory
(i.e. they mean: 'none of the snaps need to be refreshed'); if this is
the case, I think the message text should be changed.

[Bug 1663671] Re: dep8 tests fail on infrastructure

2017-03-29 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
The link will only be valid for a short time, but all tests pass fine now.
All arches on LP infrastructure are green.

The upload to z-p is in the unapproved queue (as we are in freeze), but
as discussed a change to the dep8 should be safe to pass inside the
freeze.

[Bug 1671121] Re: Deleting something from the history view breaks scrolling and the ability to click on some things

2017-03-29 Thread Zsombor Egri
I explained 2) badly :) I was about to mean that use other component for
delegate and put a button on it, so when you click it that button
deletes the delegate. Just to rule out the ListItem itself. But the 1)
already rules it out, so it is indeed the popover which does something
bad. And probably it is related to the focus handling, as I do not see
anything else the popover would affect the ListView functionalities.

[Bug 1676918] Re: blackscreen when trying to resume from suspend

2017-03-29 Thread Daniel Holz
Trying Kernel 4.11 since yesterday. So far no blackscreens but I think I
should test it for a longer duration. Unfortunately Kernel 4.11 is no
real solution for me because of another suspend/resume bug that as far
as I can tell at the moment might exist since Kernel 4.9.

[Bug 1676912] Re: Suspend - Freezing of tasks failed

2017-03-29 Thread Daniel Holz
I had some similar suspend/resume issues when trying mainline Kernels in 16.04.
Every Kernel since 4.9 would cause terribly slow system after resuming.
I will test Kernel 4.8 in next days to see if this problem is present there too.

[Bug 1637290] Re: Update to the signed 0.9+1474479173.6c180c6-1ubuntu1 shim binary from Microsoft

2017-03-29 Thread Steve Langasek
I have locally verified livecd-rootfs by running

launchpad-buildd/buildlivefs --arch amd64 --project ubuntu-cpc --series
xenial --build-id output --proposed

This fails when livecd-rootfs 2.408.8 is installed in the build chroot.
It succeeds when livecd-rootfs 2.408.9 is installed in the build chroot.

Execute the following to apply changes:
sudo ldconfig

Build the NVIDIA samples so we can confirm CUDA is working
cd /root/NVIDIA_CUDA-7.0_Samples/ ( note it should point to the directory you
installed samples in)
sudo make
NOTE: This step takes quite a bit of time to complete.

cd 1_Utilities/deviceQuery

Execute the following to test:
sudo ./deviceQuery

Re: [Bug 1677297] RE: Zesty use qcom_emac instead of msm_emac.

2017-03-29 Thread Timur Tabi
Sorry, I'm not sure what happened there. I meant to say that that is the
*actual* PHY on the SDP board. It's an Atheros 8031 PHY. I was hoping
that we could get away with the genphy driver that's built-in, but
apparently not.

Ubuntu should be building every PHY driver anyway. I don't know if
there's a way to automatically load only the PHY drivers that are on the
board. However, none of this is Centriq- or even ARM-specific. This is
standard procedure for most Ethernet drivers on any platform.

[Bug 1677442] [NEW] openvpn client breaks on connection loss

2017-03-29 Thread Paul
Public bug reported:

openvpn version 2.3.11-1ubuntu2
Kubuntu 16.10, all latest packages

If while an openvpn connection is active, and said connection provides
the main internet access, if a short underlying connection loss occurs,
such as when used over wifi, the VPN connection will fail completely,
however remain active. What then ends up happening is the client will
attempt to re-connect but immediately fail as it's using the existing,
broken, VPN connection to connect to the server. The only way to resume
network connections to normal is to manually de-activate the openvpn
client via the network manager (ie; tell the active openVPN connection
to disconnect).

On an occurrence of a connection loss, the openVPN client should be able
to re-connect via the underlying connection, not via it's own
connection...

** Affects: openvpn (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

That is hard to SRU, we don't want to be adding unrelated modules to DI.

SRU.

[Bug 1672401] Re: Screen is black for too long during login to Unity8

2017-03-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
As a prerequisite to removing Mir's initial black frame, we would want
to modify mir-demos to ensure they (the demo servers) actively paint
something on start-up. Otherwise you get the situation where you're
looking at an old frame (VT?) indefinitely until a client is started.

[Bug 1672401] Re: Screen is black for too long during login to Unity8

2017-03-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I was thinking about this bug last night. It occurred to me the black
screen is probably Mir's mesa-kms driver's first frame that it flips on
start-up. As far as Mir is concerned this is a very low-severity issue
since the shell should then render a proper frame 16ms later. However
since Unity8 is taking several seconds to render a "proper" frame
perhaps we need to change the start-up order...

Presently:
1. User enters password successfully
2. unity-system-compositor starts and Mir's mesa-kms driver flips a black frame.
3. unity8 starts and Mir's mesa-kms driver flips another black frame that USC
probably displays.
4. (several seconds later) unity8 has a proper frame ready and displays that.

If we got rid of the dummy black frame from Mir (and we need to anyway
since that is us hardcoding a dependency on the GL renderer in the
driver) then the best case outcome from that might be several seconds of
a frozen login screen before Unity8 appears. I'm not sure that's really
any better than blackness.

It might be better for Unity8 to take responsibility for this and flip
some splash screen immediately on startup for the user to see that
everything is OK while it compiles QML and whatever.

Also nice would be for USC to display a spinner while Unity8 is not
ready (hasn't displayed any frames). However we can't do that right now
while Mir is inserting a black frame of its own, which would make USC
think Unity8 is immediately ready.

[Bug 1667825] Re: Requesting Cherry Pick: dns/resolved: consider configuration from unmanaged devices

2017-03-29 Thread gpothier
Well actually I'm lost now. The code I obtain with apt-get source
network-manager is different from the one I obtain with bzr branch lp
:network-manager. The latter is supposed to be the most current way of
getting sources, but it doesn't have the file nm-dns-systemd-resolved.c.
Any ideas?

[Bug 1667825] Re: Requesting Cherry Pick: dns/resolved: consider configuration from unmanaged devices

2017-03-29 Thread gpothier
I tried applying the patch in the version of network-manager that comes in
Ubuntu 17.04 (1.4.4), and it didn't seem to work. In this version, the file
nm-dns-systemd-resolved.c is in src/dns-manager instead of src/dns, but I
assume it is the same.
Daniel, did it work for you?

[Bug 1654319] Re: kernel BUG at /build/linux-_qw1uB/linux-4.8.0/drivers/net/vmxnet3/vmxnet3_drv.c:1413

2017-03-29 Thread Shrikrishna Khare
This is an issue in the vmxnet3 device emulation (ESX 6.5) and will be
fixed in the next update.

In the meantime, suggested workaround:
 - disable rx data ring: ethtool -G eth? rx-mini 0

The issue should not be hit if using HW version 12 or older (with any
kernel) or with kernel older than 4.8 (any HW version).

Thanks,
Shri

[Bug 1624715] Re: rpc.statd not started automatically

2017-03-29 Thread Andrew
** Description changed:

  Hello,

I've noticed that if my NFS mounts do not have the 'auto' option,
rpc.statd does not start automatically, without a password.

- When I try to mount the share, I'm prompted for the sudo password, in order
to start rpc.statd.
- If the current user does not know the password, he cannot start rpc.statd and
thus cannot mount the share.
+ When I try to mount the share, I'm prompted for the sudo password, in
+ order to start rpc.statd:
+
+ > Authentication is required to start 'rpc-statd.service'.
+
+ If the current user does not know the password, he cannot start
+ rpc.statd and thus cannot mount the share.

  Here is a sample session:
  $ mount /media/xxx
[a popup window opens to prompt for a password, choose "cancel"]
Failed to start rpc-statd.service: Access denied
See system logs and 'systemctl status rpc-statd.service' for details.
mount.nfs: rpc.statd is not running but is required for remote locking.
mount.nfs: Either use '-o nolock' to keep locks local, or start statd.
mount.nfs: an incorrect mount option was specified

  /var/log/syslog contains:
  Sep 17 20:22:41 mcqueen rpc.statd[5160]: Opening /run/rpc.statd.pid failed:
Permission denied

  $ systemctl status rpc-statd.service
  ● rpc-statd.service - NFS status monitor for NFSv2/3 locking.
-Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/rpc-statd.service; enabled; vendor
preset
-Active: inactive (dead)
+    Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/rpc-statd.service; enabled; vendor

+    Active: inactive (dead)

  /etc/fstab entry:
  192.168.0.5:/volume1/documents /media/xxx nfs user,noauto0
  0

Of course, if I enter the sudo password, or if I manually start
rpc.statd as root before trying to mount, the mount operation succeeds.

Similarly, if I replace "noauto" with "auto", rpc.statd is started
during the boot sequence, and everything works.

Yet, I'd expect that any user be able to mount this share, since it has
  the "user" option.

Problem currently noticed with ubuntu 16.04.

[Bug 1677418] Re: TempfileUploadJob is not as helpful as it should be

2017-03-29 Thread Michi Henning
** Description changed:

TempfileUploadJob as it stands still requires the provider implementer
to do a fair bit of work, having to implemenent cancel() and finished(),
checking that the size is correct and so on.

It should be possible to give the implementer something that does the
entire upload into a temp file and returns a future when that's done.
With that, the implementer could just instantiate the temp file uploader
and, once the file has been written, go ahead and start the upload to
the cloud, without having to implement anything.
+
+ Doing this is probably quite easy; almost all of the implementation
+ exists already in the local provider.

The conjure-up snap is bundling a copy of libapt-pkg from xenial, which
is incompatible with the libapt-private from yakkety.

I see several things wrong with this.

 - conjure-up should not be monkeying with the library path of the host system.
It appears to have been doing this for some time already before this current
version of the snap; it's only the latest version that has added libapt-pkg to
the snap and broken things in a way that I noticed, but it was already broken
before this for conjure-up to tamper *at all* with the system path.
 - this is not the only change that conjure-up makes to the host system from
its configure hook. It also creates a file
/usr/lib/sysctl.d/60-conjure-up.conf, and manually installs files under
/usr/share/bash-completion/completions; and I have no idea what other things it
might have done in previous versions of the snap. The system integration goals
here are reasonable, but the way conjure-up goes about them are unauditable.
 - thirdly, and the reason I'm filing this against snappy: I understand classic
snaps being unconfined, by definition. But why does this translate to a
classic snap having the power to run an unconfined hook? This is ten times
worse than a dpkg maintainer script. For maintainer scripts we have policy
around what the script may or may not touch on the filesystem, we have a
community process governing who is allowed to upload packages to the Ubuntu
archive; for classic snaps we are lacking both of these safeguards. My
expectation was that a classic snap would modify the host filesystem only under
the user's direction. An unconfined configure hook is a whole other matter
entirely.

[Bug 1677418] [NEW] TempfileUploadJob is not as helpful as it should be

2017-03-29 Thread Michi Henning
Public bug reported:

TempfileUploadJob as it stands still requires the provider implementer
to do a fair bit of work, having to implemenent cancel() and finished(),
checking that the size is correct and so on.

It should be possible to give the implementer something that does the
entire upload into a temp file and returns a future when that's done.
With that, the implementer could just instantiate the temp file uploader
and, once the file has been written, go ahead and start the upload to
the cloud, without having to implement anything.

[Bug 1677175] Re: network-manager 1.2.6 won't connect to vpn and displays false connected message

2017-03-29 Thread Nicholas Stommel
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected xenial

** Description changed:

I have been having a rather serious and incredibly annoying problem on the
updated version of network-manager v1.2.6 on Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS. Trying to
manually connect to my VPN provider using openvpn through the network manager
fails literally any time except bootup. Every godforsaken time. Waking the
computer from suspend results in the network manager 'reconnecting' but no
actual internet connection. Restarting the network manager using 'sudo service
network-manager restart' sometimes doesn't work at all and I actually have to
reboot the computer for it to connect to the internet. Despite the icon showing
that I'm connected, in actuality I have no internet connection and cannot load
any web pages.
The critical thing is that this issue isn't present at all on v1.2.2, which I
have downgraded to and used 'apt-mark hold' to keep it in place. I'm
disappointed that the newer default version is so unstable. Any insight or
confirmation of this issue would be appreciated.
