[Bug 1679488] Re: Thunar freezes when left inactive for a while

2017-04-03 Thread Mikko Rytkönen
I just found out how to reproduce this: Edit and save a file visible in
Thunar using QtCreator.

Apparently QtCreator (4.2.1) creates a temporary file during saving.
When I edit a test.txt file and save it, a new test.txt.YY4824 appears
in the directory right before Thunar freezes.

This explains the behavior I have been seeing as I use QtCreator a lot
on both machines.

[Bug 1678043] Re: cmake config broken

That can't be right.
The version is one of

 1.11.0~dfsg0-2
 1.11.0~dfsg0-5
 1.12.0+dfsg0-1

It should be fixed in 1.11.0~dfsg0-5 and newer,
for 1.11.0~dfsg0-2 this has already been reported here:

[Bug 1679487] [NEW] PDF+LaTeX incorrectly replaces \\ (two backslashes) by a newline

2017-04-03 Thread Boris Dalstein
Public bug reported:

I have an SVG file which contains text like such, the important part
being the double backslash:

$\sboundary f =
\left[\begin{array}{c}
\gamma_1 = [ (e^\circ, \top) ] \\
\gamma_2 = [ (e^\circ, \top) ]
\end{array}\right]$

Using Inkscape 0.91 r13725, on Kubuntu 16.04 64bits, PDF+LaTeX converts
the text to the following, that is, replaces the double backslashes by a
newline!

\put(0.50170692,0.32122315){\color[rgb]{0,0,0}\makebox(0,0)[b]{\smash{$\sboundary
 f =
  \left[\begin{array}{c}
  \gamma_1 = [ (e^\circ, \top) ]

  \gamma_2 = [ (e^\circ, \top) ]
  \end{array}\right]$}}}%

Which makes LaTeX crash with the error:

Runaway argument?
{$\sboundary f = \left [\begin {array}{c} \gamma _1 = [ (e^\circ , \top \ETC.
! Paragraph ended before \makesm@sh was complete.

   \par
l.64   \end{array}\right]$}}}
 %

I do need the backslashes so that the array environment knows where the
next row starts. It seems Inkscape is trying to be too smart. In a
previous version of Inkscape (sorry, I don't know which), this text used
to be correctly exported as the following:

\put(0.50170692,0.32122315){\color[rgb]{0,0,0}\makebox(0,0)[b]{\smash{$\sboundary
 f =
\left[\begin{array}{c}
\gamma_1 = [ (e^\circ, \top) ] \\
\gamma_2 = [ (e^\circ, \top) ]
\end{array}\right]$}}}%

[Bug 1679488] [NEW] Thunar freezes when left inactive for a while

2017-04-03 Thread Mikko Rytkönen
Public bug reported:

Thunar keeps constantly freezing when I leave it inactive for a while.

I haven't seen it freeze while using it, but when I use some other
application for a while and switch back to Thunar window it is often
completely frozen and I have to kill it. Zero CPU usage, window not
responding. This started to happen a couple of weeks ago.

I have the exact same problem in two different installations, one on
virtual machine on Windows, other on a Asus Zenbook laptop.

2017-04-03 Thread Boris Dalstein
Note: this SVG file also exhibits the following export error:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/inkscape/+bug/1417470

I fixed it by using the following definition of \includesvg, inspired by
one comment in the above bug:

\newcommand{\includesvg}[2][]{%
\executeiffilenewer{images/#2.svg}{images/#2.pdf}%
{\unexpanded{PDF_FILE="./images/#2.pdf"; inkscape -z --file=./images/#2.svg
--export-pdf=$PDF_FILE --export-latex; sed -i 's//\n/g' ${PDF_FILE}_tex;
MAXPAGE=$(pdfinfo $PDF_FILE | grep -oP "(?<=Pages:)\s*[0-9]+" | tr -d " ") ;
sed -i "/page=$(($MAXPAGE+1))/,\${/page=/d}" ${PDF_FILE}_tex; } }
\ifthenelse{\isempty{#1}}{\small}{#1}
\input{images/#2.pdf_tex}%
}

[Bug 1665698] Re: /etc/qemu-ifup not allowed by apparmor

2017-04-03 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
The automated proposed regression check on qemu/libvirt passed and confirmed
that there should be no regression.
Also I was able to test the explicit fix of this vs proposed.
That said - verification-done (libvirt)

** Description changed:

  SRU - Nova
  [Impact]
  OpenStack deployments using vif types `tap`, `ivs`, `iovisor`, `midonet`, and
`vrouter` are unable to boot instances using libvirt 1.3.1 from Ubuntu 16.04
(as used by the Newton Ubuntu Cloud Archive). Note that this impacts the nova
package which is currently in yakkety-proposed/newton-proposed - the version in
*-updates does not have this issue.

  [Test case]
  Using an OpenStack cloud deployed with one of the above SDN's boot an
instance.
  The instance will fail to boot with a libvirt error.
  Note cloud must be deployed using the -proposed packages from the Newton UCA.

  [Regression Potential]
  Minimal - the patch restores the previous behaviour for older libvirt
versions, ensuring compatibility with documented libvirt version baselines in
OpenStack Nova.

  ---

  SRU - libvirt
  [Impact]

   * Please do note that this SRU statement is about the libvirt portion
     of it, this is a fix of essentially an API break from Xenial to
     Yakkety. This is independent to any decision to the Openstack context
     discussion about the change to drop specifying a path at all.

   * Before 9c17d665fdc5f (v1.3.2 which means 1.3.1 in Xenial for us) it
     was possible to have the following interface configuration:

     This resulted in -netdev tap,script=,.. Fortunately, qemu helped
     us to get away with this as it just ignored the empty script
     path. However, after the commit mentioned above it's libvirtd
     who is executing the script. Unfortunately without special
     case-ing empty script path.

   * The fix adds the special casing that qemu had into libvirts handling
     of the interface definition.

  [Test Case]

   * That is tricky as the way openstack is using to shove that in
     seems to not care on xml validation as much as e.g. virsh.
     If normally adding a device like
-
+

     At least in xenial AND yakkety blocked by the XML validation.
-    But if trying to work around like:
-
-    Which gave "-netdev tap,script="",id=hostnet1" on yakkety then
+    But if trying to work around like with path='""'
+    this gives "-netdev tap,script="",id=hostnet1" on yakkety then
     the fix does not apply as this is '""' and not ''.
-    So to add the above you have to edit it in via --skip-validate like
+    So to add the above snippet you have to edit it in via --skip-
+validate like
     $ virsh edit --skip-validate zesty-on-x-test
-    This on onlder libvrit gave: -netdev tap,script=,id=hostnet1
+    This on older libvrit gave: -netdev tap,script=,id=hostnet1
     Which qemu understood as nop. But newer libvirt refuses.

   * Error:
     error: Failed to start domain
     error: Cannot find '' in path: No such file or directory

   * Expected:
     Starting the domain as-is without calling a script,
     but also without complaining about being empty.

  [Regression Potential]

   * Regression should be low because of:
     * The fix is upstream for a while now without follow on fix
     * We are essentially going back to how it was
     * There is no case like "I had '' set in my setup but now it is
   a no-op which makes me fail" because if one had '' it failed until
   now.
   * Fix is in zesty for a few days without new fallout being reported
   * also it passed several levels of testing (on the case and general
     regression testing)
   * Due to extra xml checks a device like path='' is not even definable.
     So only those who run --skip-validate or similar are affected in
     the first place.

  [Other Info]

[Bug 1672367] Re: libvirt uses password-secret on old style drive_add syntax

2017-04-03 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
The automated proposed regression check on qemu/libvirt passed and
confirmed that there should be no regression.

@James - you said you kicked off another Tempest run on this to check
the issue itself, can you confirm and mark v-done once you checked the
results?

Check power options under system-settings->power->screen-brightness.
Change "Turn screen off while inactive for". If this doesn't work then
it could be a problem with drm/kernel.

Just adding my voice here. This bug makes PDF+LaTeX pretty unusable as

until an actual fix is made.

[Bug 1679462] [NEW] Secure boot disable audio

2017-04-03 Thread Cristhian Quiñonez
Public bug reported:

I'm new in Ubuntu 14.04, yesterday everything was working okay in my
computer until I updated ubuntu. the software center just showed up and
asked me for install new stuff, so I said yes. After the updates
finished and the computer restarted, the sound of my computer stop
working, I have tried everything. Install, purge, upgrade, reinstall
alsa, install the driver of sound, anything worked.

The only thing that worked was to disable the secureboot. But it shows
de message “Booting in insecure mode ", i decided to enable secure boot
again and the sound is not working.

What is happening if everything was fine until I updated Ubuntu?

I have an Inspiron 14 (3459)

[Bug 1677297] Re: [Zesty] d-i: replace msm_emac with qcom_emac

2017-04-03 Thread Manoj Iyer
Timur,

I strongly suspect that the NMI watchdog softlockups caused by mlx5_core
dma mapping is the root cause of why qcom_emac driver is unable to get a
dhcp address. I blacklisted the mlx5_core driver and the soft lockups
went away. Nate suggested that we might need some additional iommu
related patches to address the soft lockup issue. I will build a kernel
with those and see if I have any success. So, looks like qcom_emac
driver is not at fault here.

[Bug 1679452] Re: Windows 10 Build 1703 removing ubuntu from bios

2017-04-03 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1679452/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1679454] [NEW] failed install on new ssd ( grub efi didn't install) - ssd not showing in efi either in uefi

2017-04-03 Thread Michael
Public bug reported:

brand new ssd samsung evo 850. new to ubuntu and found i had to format ssd so
to get working in efi (uefi ) on asus f555ua machine. formatted ssd using
windows 10 via usb connection.
uefi does not recognize the actual ssd and cannot now wipe using samsun
software which seems to be only way (must be connected via laptop internal
connection and no other pc to use to do so here).

in order to even think of installing ubuntu editing grub at initial start up
adding "pci=nomsi" is required to left of quiet splash (there is a forum
stating so also - trouble installing ubuntu on asus f555ua or such. have
ubuntu16.04 dual booting with win 10 pro onstock 1tb hd (non ssd) and now
networking problem (as in disconneted all time and no code to get working in
terminal) along with some botched install of two stage shut down (log out then
again shut down) but ... besides that other problem i am trying to install
ubuntu16.04 via the sd i am mentioning here. unsure if selecting erase
everything will fix the problem.
another thing i now remember is warnig saying started in uefi but a os or so
may be installed via bios (see uefi not recognizing the ssd samsung 850
preformatted using windows in above statement), tried making a root partition
of 20gb and rest a home partition. warned i needed some setting to efi in boot
loader but only option is sda or sda1 - one is longer in words but neither
state efi or uefi. Ubuntu install claims it is a bug so i will treat it as
such.

sory i am such a mess as describing problem. going to hook up other hard
drive via external usb and boot if i can along with samsung in internal
connection and hopefully wpe it. first time i did a ssd was in a hp with
14.04 and that machine finally died (bios not uefi) so i am back to new
and with a thousand dollar paperweight for last year so far.

[Bug 1678064] Re: Attempting to install to a single btrfs root partition crashes the installer

2017-04-03 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
If you can reproduce this can exfiltrate the /var/log/installer
/subiquity-debug.log file somehow? (e.g. switch to vt2, log in as
ubuntu/empty password, pastebinit /var/log/installer/subiquity-
debug.log).

Installing with a btrfs / seems to be working for me.
