2017-04-09 Thread Marc Singer
I've created a post in the Gigabyte Forums AM4 Beta BIOS Thread.

http://forum.gigabyte.us/thread/886/am4-beta-bios-thread?page=21

Maybe they can figure out what is causing this issue to happen.

[Bug 1644669] Re: Uploader.close() fails if in Loading state

2017-04-09 Thread Michi Henning
The difficulty I see is that the underlying socket isn't connected until
we get the reply from the provider and we can set the socket fd.

I don't think it is possible to write to a QIODevice before it enters
the valid state. The doc says:

"Before accessing the device, open() must be called to set the correct
OpenMode (such as ReadOnly or ReadWrite)."

We don't call open(), but call setSocketDescriptor() instead (which is
the moral equivalent of open()).

Unless I'm misreading the doc, any writes to the socket will fail until
after it is connected, so we'd have to buffer up all the data that was
written, as well as queuing the close() call.

It seems it would be rather complex to provide this functionality. It's
also problematic to make it symmetric with downloads. There, I can't
call close() either before the socket is ready (for obvious reasons).

I have a sneaking suspicion that doing this may be a bit too clever? As
is, the rules are simple:

for both download and upload, wait until the socket is ready before you
do anything else with it.

[Bug 1598173] Re: Please consider SRU of "xcb: Compress mouse motion and touch update events"

2017-04-09 Thread Elvis Stansvik
I made a couple of pings in #ubuntu-release without reply, but I guess
people are just busy :)

Another question though: I can see that there was already another
qtbase-opensource-src upload in the queue (5.5.1+dfsg-16ubuntu7.3). Will
an approver have to approve that first, or will that one be discarded
and 5.5.1+dfsg-16ubuntu7.4 taken directly?

[Bug 1681313] [NEW] "port does not support device sleep" on Dell Precision 5520

2017-04-09 Thread TomaszChmielewski
Public bug reported:

I'm seeing messages like below on Dell Precision 5520, which is on an
Ubuntu certified hardware list:

https://certification.ubuntu.com/hardware/201610-25144/

BIOS is updated to the latest version available: 1.1.3

The system has this SATA controller:

00:17.0 SATA controller: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-H SATA
controller [AHCI mode] (rev 31)

And this 256 GB SSD disk:

Model Number:   SanDisk X400 2.5 7MM 256GB
Firmware Revision:  X4130012

There is a firmware upgrade available for SSD storage on Dell website,
but unfortunately, the installer is Windows only (a weird thing for a
Ubuntu certified hardware IMO) - therefore, I was no able to apply it.

[Bug 1664147] Re: Chromium on trusty too outdated; not supported by gmail

2017-04-09 Thread Fink Nottle
It looks like chromium 57 has been pushed to the ppa. I tried it on
trusty, and it works. I noticed one difference compared to chrome 57.
Flash has been deprecated in chrome 57, and set to on-demand only.
Ironically, chromium runs flash by default. The on-demand setting
doesn't exist on chromium 57.

[Bug 1667158] Re: Regression: Borders of windows and desktop background are displayed badly after suspend/resume

2017-04-09 Thread SunBear
@experimencer Thanks again. It helped me tied over this period. ;)

@huiprobable To solve your issue, I think you have to run the script
after passing password authentication. You might want to try driver
381.09 instead since it is now available.

[Bug 1667158] Re: Regression: Borders of windows and desktop background are displayed badly after suspend/resume

2017-04-09 Thread SunBear
@kcm.

I ran GPU calculations
/NVIDIA_CUDA-8.0_Samples/5_Simulations/nbody/nbody and also
https://www.airtightinteractive.com/demos/ribbons/ for about 20 mins.

Nvidia X Server Setting --> GPU 0 - (GForce GTX Titan)
--> Thermal Setting showed:
Temperature = 72 to 75 degrees C, Fan speed = ~1737rpm, 44%, Control type =
variable, Cooling target = GPU, Memory & Power supply.
--> PowerMizer
performance level=3, graphic clock = 536 to 1202 MHz, Memory Transfer Rate =
6008 to 6008 MHz
set at maximum performance mode.

These results look ok, no overheating. I physically touched my GPU fan
and it is running.

[Bug 1636395] Re: dnsmasq not working with OpenVPN

2017-04-09 Thread Nicholas Stommel
Okay so I have found the issue pertaining to dns resolution on Ubuntu
16.04.2! There is a critical bug in the package dnsmasq-base here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dnsmasq/+bug/1639776 The fix
hasn't yet been applied to the current version of dnsmasq-base.

This time I have all the dependencies on 1.2.6 at their newest version
and installing the patched .deb version provided by Harald Rudell fixes
DNS name resolution on wakeup/suspend and with restart of the network
manager, all while cooperating with openvpn. I hope this helps anyone on
16.04.2 LTS!

wget
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dnsmasq/+bug/1639776/+attachment/4780245/+files
/dnsmasq-base_2.76-4ubuntu1FIX1639776ubuntu1_amd64.deb

sudo dpkg -i dnsmasq-base_2.76-4ubuntu1FIX1639776ubuntu1_amd64.deb

This appears to have actually worked, and is much better than using
dnscrypt-proxy (which I have found to be incredibly slow) or holding
back a bunch of packages.

Rolled back to 375.39, besides graph. corruption, the fan not kicking in after
resume from suspend issue is also true.
Can anyone verify if this also happens with your system regardless of driver
version?
You've got to run some 3d stuff to get the heat up like (firefox/chrome/vivaldi)

[Bug 1681294] Re: ugly "pthread_create failed: Resource temporarily unavailable" running snaps

2017-04-09 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
  As reported here:
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/snapcraft/2017-March/003497.html (and on
internal lists), it is possible for a golang executable that calls syscall.Exec
to print an ugly "pthread_create failed: Resource temporarily unavailable"
message before it starts the new process. There is no functional effect, but
snapd runs into this frequently so it interferes with a nice snappy experience.

  Luckily for us, the bug was fixed upstream in the 1.8 release
  (https://github.com/golang/go/issues/18146) so I can just backport the
  fix to Xenial and Yakkety.
+
+ It also turns out to be necessary to include two more upstream patches
+ that fix test suite failures with new tzdata packages.

  [Test case]
  Run this code:

  package main

  //
  import "C"

  import (
-   "syscall"
+  "syscall"
  )

  func main() {
-   syscall.Exec("/bin/true", []string{"/bin/true"}, nil)
+  syscall.Exec("/bin/true", []string{"/bin/true"}, nil)
  }

  a few thousand times and check for messages (it prints a message ~2% of
  the time or so without the fix).

  [Regression potential]
  The patch is simple, if a bit verbose (it has some per-architecture changes).
It has not been the cause of any bug reports in 1.8 as far as I am aware. So I
would characterise the regression potential as very low.
+
+ The tzdata patches are similarly well exercised as they are backports,
+ and are necessary or the build will fail!

[Bug 1681295] [NEW] Problem in network-manager-openvpn, openvpn fails during and after downloads.

2017-04-09 Thread Nicholas Stommel
Public bug reported:

So I've been using OpenVPN through the network-manager-openvpn package
integrated into the network manager GUI. I experienced an odd problem
where consistently, during or after downloading (in this case, I tested
by just downloading the kernel tarball from kernel.org repeatedly, which
is around 90MB) Every single time, without fail, the openvpn client
would fail and my connection would go dead. To reconnect, I would have
to manually restart the network manager.

Now, I played around with .conf files and the CLI openvpn client and noticed
EXACTLY the same behavior happening. I eventually arrived to the conclusion
that the flag or option "auth-nocache" would cause a connection reset after or
during downloads and streaming. I then got to reading the openvpn man pages and
I stumbled across this message (you can easily find it by going 'man openvpn |
grep nocache') about the guaranteed failure of key renegotiation if
auth-user-pass and auth-nocache were used together:
" Further, using --daemon together with --auth-user-pass (entered
  on console) and --auth-nocache will fail as soon as key renego‐
  tiation (and reauthentication) occurs."

When I removed auth-user-pass from my .conf files, the problem went away. Then
I wondered. Now what if...network-manager-openvpn was actually passing both
flags to openvpn? Then I downloaded the source tarball and found that indeed,
this exact thing is happening on a SINGLE line. See line 1380 of
network-manager-openvpn-1.1.93/src/nm-openvpn-service.c
"add_openvpn_arg (args, "--auth-nocache");"

So I decided to comment out that single line. I then rebuilt the
packages network-manager-openvpn and network-manager-openvpn using
'dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc -nc', installed them, and tested downloading
the source kernel repeatedly to see if the connection would hold. It
does! Literally commenting out ONE line fixed weeks worth of extreme
annoyance repeatedly reconnecting to my vpn. This issue is rather
annoying and needs to be fixed so openvpn doesn't keep cutting out. I've
attached a patch for the source.

[Bug 1671606] Re: DNS server from vpn connection is not being used after network-manager upgrade to 1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1

2017-04-09 Thread Nicholas Stommel
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1639776 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1639776

Okay so I have found the issue pertaining to dns resolution on Ubuntu 16.04.2!
There is a critical bug in the package dnsmasq-base here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dnsmasq/+bug/1639776
The fix hasn't yet been applied to the current version of dnsmasq-base.

This time I have all the dependencies on 1.2.6 at their newest version
and installing the patched .deb version provided by Harald Rudell fixes
DNS name resolution on wakeup/suspend and with restart of the network
manager, all while cooperating with openvpn. I hope this helps anyone on
16.04.2 LTS!

wget
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dnsmasq/+bug/1639776/+attachment/4780245/+files/dnsmasq-base_2.76-4ubuntu1FIX1639776ubuntu1_amd64.deb
sudo dpkg -i dnsmasq-base_2.76-4ubuntu1FIX1639776ubuntu1_amd64.deb

This appears to have actually worked, and is much better than using
dnscrypt-proxy (which I have found to be incredibly slow) or holding
back a bunch of packages.

[Bug 1681290] [NEW] UI experiences delay when menu / tooltip disappears

2017-04-09 Thread SimonWerner
Public bug reported:

Sometimes the system will not respond to mouse clicks or keypresses.
This appears to happen when I hold the mouse over an item and a pop-up
tooltip appears, or when I click on a menu. I believe it happens when
the tooltip/menu is set to disappear.

Steps to reproduce are:
 1) Select a menu item
 2) Click outside the menu
 3) The click won't register for around 7 or 8 seconds. No other keypresses
register immediately but will occur around 7 seconds later.

This occurs in GNOME, GNOME applications and also for non-GNOME
applications such as Firefox and Chrome.

[Bug 1680605] Re: boot fails after upgrade

2017-04-09 Thread Simon Kropf
Well, yeah that fix is working because it's just booting into an older
kernel.

Yes, I downloaded the image on 06.04. und updated & (dist-)upgraded it
on the same day.

So in Kernel 4.4.0-1052 I have the error as above in the pic.

If I get the time I will try tomorrow to see which is the latest working kernel
until I get this error. (Maybe on the way there I will run into the same bug
(1652270) you referenced, we'll see)

[Bug 1668441] Re: mate-panel crashed with SIGSEGV in gdk_window_get_user_data()

2017-04-09 Thread AdamH
I get this crash in Ubuntu MATE 17.04 Beta 2 64-bit (using MATE version 1.18.0)
running in a VirtualBox VM (VirtualBox 5.1.18 [latest], VirtualBox Guest
Additions [5.1.18] not yet installed, host OS is Linux Mint 17.2 Cinnamon
64-bit).
So far, it has happened twice during testing, when changing Panel Layout from
within MATE Tweak:
1. When I changed the layout to "Mutiny"
2. When I enabled the Advanced Menu (aka Mint Menu).

[Bug 981583] Re: 'Erase Ubuntu [version] and reinstall' with 12.04 beta2 does not respect existing partitioning scheme

2017-04-09 Thread Jane Atkinson
Occurred when testing Install (erase and reinstall) in a Vbox VM.

Initial partitioning scheme was root on /dev/sda1 and /home on
/dev/sda5. Reinstall puts the whole system on /dev/sda1 and leaves
/dev/sda5 untouched.

The test may appear to have worked, but anyone who thinks that their
previous install (and data) has been totally wiped is mistaken.

[Bug 1667158] Re: Regression: Borders of windows and desktop background are displayed badly after suspend/resume

2017-04-09 Thread Mike Gresens
** Description changed:

  == Update2: ==

  nvidia delivered a new driver: 381.09 beta
  https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/1002788

  From release notes:

  "Fixed a regression that caused corruption in certain applications, such
  as window border shadows in Unity, after resuming from suspend."
  (nvidia)

  This driver can now be downloaded and installed manually from Nvidia
  link, or via ppa from Graphics Drivers Team and sudo apt-get update (see
  comment #54).
+
+ See https://launchpad.net/~graphics-drivers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa

  == Update1: ==

  Nvidia states that the bug will be fixed in the next release:
  https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/990898/linux/suspend-corrupts-
  window-manager-after-upgrade-to-378-09/2. However no timeline for the
  next release was mentioned.

  Meanwhile workarounds have to be used to alleviate/overcome the bad
  window borders and title bar caused by driver version 375.39.

  -- Possible workarounds for the time being --

  - Alternative A: Keep using nvidia-375.39 with workarounds.
   E.g. kill or replace compiz process. See comments #13 and
    #44 given below for implementation details. Beware,
    some users found the command killed applications
    like Firefox or Thunderbird on resume while others
    did not.
   E.g. Use "unity" command (see comments #4 and #23)
   E.g. Click an effect in CompizConfig Setting Manager
    (CCSM) --> Effects. (see comment $5)
  - Alternative B: Use alternative graphic drivers.
   E.g. Install nvidia-340 package if that versions supports
    your graphic card: sudo apt install nvidia-340. Or
    use Nouveau display driver or other suitable drivers
    available in System Settings --> Software & Updates
    --> Additional Drivers.
  - Alternative C: Downgrade to earlier driver versions that worked before
   the updgrade occurred. E.g. use nvidia-367 package.
   Beware, that this driver version has unfixed security
   holes! Downgrading works in Yakkety, possibly also in
   Xenial, but likely not in Zesty. Command to downgrade:
   sudo apt install nvidia-367=367.57-0ubuntu3 libcuda1-
   367=367.57-0ubuntu3 nvidia-opencl-icd-367=367.57-0ubuntu3

  Original text of this bug report:

  My system graphic driver had just updated to 375.39 but Borders of pop-
  up windows are displayed badly. This is especially true after waking up
  from suspend mode. this driver is buggy. I am using Ubuntu 16.04. Any
  way to rectify this display problem?

[Bug 1667158] Re: Regression: Borders of windows and desktop background are displayed badly after suspend/resume

2017-04-09 Thread experimancer
Thanks @sunbear-c22 for sharing my workaround
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-
drivers-375/+bug/1667158/comments/12), simpler vesion in Bash shell that
I'm currently using after resume from suspend:

kill $(ps -eo pid,comm | grep "compiz" | grep -v grep |  awk '{print
$1}')

which restarts compiz and restores normal window borders to all desktop
screens and application windows.

Issue is still in my system, where the Nivida driver just got normal
update to version 378.13, which still has the exact same issue.

BTW: how did you update your Nvidia to 381.09 (which seems to fix the
issue)..?

[Bug 1292830] Re: Resuming from sleep makes black borders around windows appear

2017-04-09 Thread experimancer
Issue is still in Xenail with Nvidia 378.13, and none of the workarounds
above does work.

White borders always appear after resume from suspend and e.h CTRL-
ALT-F1 and then back CTRL-ALT-F7 does nothing, neither changing Nividia
Settings tweaking..

Only thing that works is to kill the compiz process from command line
with:

kill $(ps -eo pid,comm | grep "compiz" | grep -v grep |  awk '{print
$1}')

which restarts compiz and restores normal window borders to all desktop
screens and application windows.

[Bug 1672033] Re: Xorg does not detect displays in rootless mode on nvidia proprietary drivers (GNOME)

2017-04-09 Thread Igor
Jeremy, it's not related.

Also, this is how it supposed to work. If gdm thinks it cannot start
wayland session, it wont display Wayland option.

Why does gdm thinks Wayland session is not available you ask? Because I
presume you have modesetting disabled, because installation or update
for nvidia driver overwrites:

/etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-graphics-drivers.conf -> /etc/alternatives/x86_64
-linux-gnu_nvidia_modconf

and puts by default:

options nvidia_381_drm modeset=0

which will prevent wayland from working.

[Bug 1681269] [NEW] Launcher Type=link, can not be opened with other application

2017-04-09 Thread makitso
Public bug reported:

If you right click on a desktop launcher and select an application to
launch it e.g. Text Editor, some launchers do not populate the
application. For example:

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=Calendar
Type=Link
URL=https://calendar.google.com/calendar/render?tab=mc#main_7
Icon=/home/rob/user1/Graphics/calendar.png

This happens in both budgie and gnome shell on 17.04. If you change the
file name from calendar.desktop to calendar.txt it works correctly.

Secondly, if you look at the permissions for this type of launcher, you
get the message "The permissions of "ServiceLogin" could not be
determined."
