[Bug 1682871] Re: attempts to rename vlans / vlans have addr_assign_type of 0 on kernel 4.4
** Description changed: [Impact] * When vlan interfaces are created, their mac address is copied from the underlying interface, but it is not marked by kernel as stolen. * When underlying interface MAC address is changed, it does not propagate to the vlan interfaces. [Test Case] * Create vlan interface, check the addr_assign_type sysfs attribute, it should be 2, not 0. * Update the base interface mac address, the mac address of the vlan interface should change too. + + * cloud-init test case + + + + wget https://git.launchpad.net/~smoser/cloud-init/+git/sru-info/plain/bin/get-proposed-cloudimg; + chmod 755 get-proposed-cloudimg; + + for release in xenial yakkety zesty; do + ./get-proposed-cloudimg $release; + MODE=vlan ./btest-launch.sh $release-server-cloudimg-amd64-proposed.img ; + # ubuntu/passw0rd + python3 -c 'from cloudinit.net import get_interfaces_by_mac; print(get_interfaces_by_mac())'; # results in no runtime error and doesn't report vlan interface name + done + + + [Regression Potential] * Userspace may rely on non-propagating MAC addresses, and the fact that vlan mac address type is wrongly stated as non-stolen; however this behaviour will be consistent with 4.7+ kernels. [Other Info] * Please cherrypick 308453aa9156a3b8ee382c0949befb507a32b0c1 into v4.4 kernels commit 308453aa9156a3b8ee382c0949befb507a32b0c1 Author: Mike Manning Date: Fri May 27 17:45:07 2016 +0100 vlan: Propagate MAC address to VLANs The MAC address of the physical interface is only copied to the VLAN when it is first created, resulting in an inconsistency after MAC address changes of only newly created VLANs having an up-to-date MAC. The VLANs should continue inheriting the MAC address of the physical interface until the VLAN MAC address is explicitly set to any value. This allows IPv6 EUI64 addresses for the VLAN to reflect any changes to the MAC of the physical interface and thus for DAD to behave as expected. Signed-off-by: Mike Manning Signed-off-by: David S. Miller * Original bug report When attempting to verify sru for bug 1669860, I found that vlans are not properly filtered out by 'get_interfaces_by_mac'. That means that the bug is still present with vlans. The reason for this is that /sys/class/net//addr_assign_type shows '0' for a vlan on 4.4, but (correctly) shows '2' on 4.8. See https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/ABI/testing/sysfs-class-net for doc on addr_assign_type. [Bug 1688114] [NEW] arm64/ACPI support for SBSA watchdog
Public bug reported: [Impact] On arm64/ACPI-based servers, such as the QDT2400 and HiSilicon D05, there is a watchdog feature based on the architected timer that is not usable in Ubuntu. This prevents these systems from using this facility to automatically recover from a hard lockup. [Test Case] sudo modprobe sbsa-gwdt ls -l /dev/watchdog* [Regression Risk] The changes required are to the ARM architected timer driver and some new code to parse the configuration data from the ACPI GTDT table. These changes only apply to ARM-specific code, so the risk is limited to those platforms. [Bug 1688081] Re: USb-Ethernet ASIX A88772 stops working after kernel 4.10
Changed status to confirmed as per apport instructions. However, I had to use apport without the non-working adapter plugged in (another one in its place), so the hardware information would be wrong. For information, I plugged the working adapter (Realtek USB 10/100/1000 LAN) four times, and it worked these four times; the same goes for the non-working adapter (ASIX AX88x72A) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1688081 Title: USb-Ethernet ASIX A88772 stops working after kernel 4.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1688081/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1688081] Re: USb-Ethernet ASIX A88772 stops working after kernel 4.10
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected zesty ** Description changed: I have an USB-Ethernet dongle ASIX AX88772 USB 2.0 Ethernet, which uses the asix.ko module. I just updated from Ubuntu 16.04 to 16.10 then 17.04. When I updated to 17.04 it just stopped initializing the dongle; in ethtool and mii-tool it shows no link detected, although it is connected and works in dual-booted Windows. I ruled out networkmanager idiosyncrasies of "managed" and "not managed" because I configured it both ways and tried also with ifupdown and directly with ifconfig up and dhclient. And then I changed the model to another ethernet USB adapter and it worked. This is the dmesg entry for the ASIX adapter: [ 31.137223] usb 1-6: New USB device found, idVendor=0b95, idProduct=772a [ 31.137225] usb 1-6: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 [ 31.137226] usb 1-6: Product: AX88x72A [ 31.137227] usb 1-6: Manufacturer: ASIX Elec. [Bug 1688081] [NEW] USb-Ethernet ASIX A88772 stops working after kernel 4.10
Public bug reported: I have an USB-Ethernet dongle ASIX AX88772 USB 2.0 Ethernet, which uses the asix.ko module. Corp. [ 31.137228] usb 1-6: SerialNumber: 02 Model no: KY-AX88772ALF on the side of the device. I am currently reporting this bug without the adapter connected, because I would have no network. [Bug 1670041] Re: Poor performance of Atheros QCA6174 802.11ac (rev 32) (Killer Wireless 1535)
I'm also experience abysmal Wi-Fi performance with QCA6174 on a new Lenovo Yoga 910 - dropping connection every few minutes, reporting very low network strength coverage. Out of the box, the card didn't work at all with neither Ubuntu Xenial LTS nor elementaryOS 0.4 Loki, but I got it running rudimentarily with the latest hwe-edge kernel 4.10.0.20 and linux-firmware (1.164). I've tried upgrading to the latest firmware packages from github.com /kvalo /ath10k-firmware/tree/master/QCA6174 to fix the poor connection performance of the network card, but it sadly doesn't seem to have had any noticeable effect. I've also disabled the network card power-savings, disabled IPv6, tried all sorts of tinkering with the router, nothing seems to fix the poor performance. A weird quirk I noticed is that if the notebook is completely still, network connection drops less frequently, but if the computer is moved by just a bit, then the network connection drops noticeably. One problem is that the network indicator doesn't even report that the connection has been lost/dropped, the only way it's noticed is the long buffering time it takes suddenly to load websites: sudo service network-manager stop/start fixes this temporarily, but this is far from a solution and very annoying. What can I do to fix this (apart from using Windows :( )? Any recommendations? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1670041 Title: Poor performance of Atheros QCA6174 802.11ac (rev 32) (Killer Wireless 1535) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1670041/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1434986] Re: Not working network connection after boot
Good news ! This bug seems to have disappeared since I upgraded my two PC toward Kubuntu 17.04. No problem for several weeks, after two years of problems... In fact, it seems that Kubuntu does not launch anymore dnsmasq. It does not appear in the results of the command: sudo /etc/init.d/network-manager status In my package manager, I see that the dnsmasq package is not installed, but the dnsmasq-base is. [Bug 1688022] Re: text randomly scatters in documents
** Description changed: You newer know when your document or template created using ubuntu family fonts will crash. You can save a flawless document and after reopening it within minutes it's crashed. The text is scattered around and you can make it useful again only by changing the size of the font and/or changing font into anything outside the ubuntu family. Sometimes after you change fonts like that and then change the font back to ubuntu everything is ok. - Sometimes the problem can be temporarily solved by logging out from Windows user account/ ubuntu session. But that's not always true. Sometimes when a document is scattered in Open Office - opening it in Libre office shows perfect, flawless document. - It's affecting both: Libre and Open Office programs on both: Windows (XP, Vista,7, 10) and Linux (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, 14.04 LTS as well as Mint and Xubuntu). It's a problem when creating, editing and reading a file but also when printing it. - The problem occurs when text is scattered - then the printout will be affected as well. When file looks ok - print will be fine. Used printers: HP laser and ink printers and OKI laser printers. + Sometimes the problem can be temporarily solved by logging out from Windows user account/ ubuntu session. There are days and weeks without a single error. But then again there are days you can't work because documents simply won't come up without errors. This is the one and only font that makes things like that.
