[Bug 1691577] [NEW] Error when printing address database to letter document

2017-05-17 Thread pooky2483
Public bug reported:

I am printing a letter which is linked to an address database and where the
address has a blank field I have used the character * to represent a blank line
and have LibreOffice close up the line.
I have tried this on Kubuntu 14.04 and cups-pdf 2.6.1-9 and I get the result I
wanted, each address to be 'printed' on a separate 'pdf' document.

The problem OS is Kubuntu 16.04 and cups-pdf 2.6.1-21 where the result I
get is the address with the * in the address.

I have attached the .ods spreasheet file with the addresses in
The 'odb database file of the addresses to be used
The 'document' which uses the linked spreadsheet file
One of the resulting 'wrong' pdf 'letters'
One of the resulting 'correct' pdf 'letters'

Re: [Bug 1522675] Re: Warning messages about unsandboxed downloads

2017-05-17 Thread L. P. Luigi Espenlaub
Is the command "CHOWN" or "CHOWN(1)" ?
Thank you, for the info on this particular error as I had fond that the
chown command was some how to be used,

Probably off topic here, but it would be a great help if you could answer.
I've been puzzled by the (1)? My attempt at finding --h help or invoking
the command using "chown(1)" always returned the "unexpected argument "(""
error. I haven't quite figured out (1)'s meaning or necessity.

Being new to Linux and Unix and a Mister Literal has left me wondering if
(1) or (2) is not part of the command, why is it there?

If that info has been lost in the Unix Halls of Time that's OK. As I
remember from my 8-bit days ( was a reserved character in the DOS world,
Same set in the Unix world?

As a wise instructor friend of mine said "Common sense is only what has
been commonly taught." I keep finding I missed that class at some point.

[Bug 1690836] Re: libnl-genl-3.0 memory leak

2017-05-17 Thread Joshua Powers
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. I appreciate the quality of this bug report and I'm sure it will be
helpful to others experiencing the same issue.

This sounds like an upstream bug to me. The best route to getting it fixed
in Ubuntu in this case would be to file an bug with the upstream project.
Otherwise, I am not sure what we can do directly in Ubuntu to fix the
problem.

If you do end up filing an upstream bug, please link to it from here.
Thanks!

[Bug 1690684] Re: samba panic

2017-05-17 Thread Joshua Powers
Steps to reproduce would be best. For example, can I just apt install
samba and hit the issue? did you have some sort of special configuration
or turn on some feature?

It would be even better if you could do it in a LXC container, e.g.:

lxc launch ubuntu-daily:trusty t
lxc exec t bash
...
(give me the steps you use to setup samba and reproduce the issue)

[Bug 1383470] Re: scp does not work (fails at 'Sending command scp -v -t')

2017-05-17 Thread Joshua Powers
Hi,

This is an older bug, but came up during the daily server team bug
triage because of the recent comments. The last comment seems to
indicate that this is no longer an issue. I did attempt to do an scp
from trusty to another system using version 6.6p1-2ubuntu2.8 and found
no issues.

If this is still an issue can you please comment confirming the issue
and provide your steps to reproduce?

Thanks!

[Bug 1643134] Re: Switch gnome-software to use PackageKit backend

2017-05-17 Thread Robert Ancell
commit 8ecc6713380cd6922adfc2892d8282891eedf3ec
Author: Robert Ancell
Date: Thu May 18 09:10:51 2017 +1200

packagekit: Don't explicitly disable PackageKit interactivity

We need interactivity for debconf prompts to install when installing .debs.
This is not most packages (i.e. not normally apps) but some dependencies can
trigger debconf prompts. If PackageKit is set to be non-interactive then
these packages never complete installation and the user is left confused.
The default PackageKit behaviour is to allow interactivity.

[Bug 1685870] Re: [MIR] gnome-shell

2017-05-17 Thread Jeremy Bicha
iio-sensor-proxy is already in main so I have now removed it from this
bug's description.

** Description changed:

  Availability

Co-maintained with Debian GNOME. Built for all supported architectures.

  Changes from Debian
  ---
  - Depend on gnome-session which due to package split now contains only the
session files
  - debian/patches/ubuntu-lightdm-user-switching.patch:
+ Allow user switching when using LightDM. (GNOME wasn't interested in
LightDM support before)
  - debian/patches/ubuntu_lock_on_suspend.patch
    + Respect Ubuntu's lock-on-suspend setting.
  - debian/gnome-shell.gsettings-override:
    + Replace firefox-esr with firefox
  - Lower misc. universe dependencies to suggests (list below)
Ubuntu is also at GNOME 3.24 but Debian is still at 3.22 because of Stretch
Release Freeze.

  Rationale
  =
Ubuntu Desktop will be switching from Unity to gnome-shell as the default
desktop.

  Security

  No known security issues

WordPress maintains separate branches to backport security fixes. I suspect
that the older the branch gets, the more likely it is that something will break.

WordPress still uses trac/svn, but there's this handy read-only copy
  that is easier to examine:

+ https://github.com/WordPress/WordPress/commits/4.4-branch
+
+ WordPress only officially recommends the latest stable series (currently 4.7)

  Other Info
  --
On one hand, I hope right now no one actually uses the Ubuntu package on a
live web server. I mean, if they are using the development version of Ubuntu,
it might actually work but otherwise, it's not really received any security
support at all.

Similarly, I guess there's a concern that if we start providing security
updates, then people will start thinking that Ubuntu's 'wordpress'
package is safe to use, which is fine as long as someone from the
community will indeed package these updates from now on. Otherwise,
maybe doing these security updates is not really helping anyone?

- Since 14.04's wordpress is in unseeded universe after 3 years, it's not
- supported any more, but since WordPress still provided a release for it,
- I figure it's not that much extra effort to do that update too.
+ WordPress also maintains a 3.8 branch (with a 3.8.21 release this week
+ corresponding with 4.7.5) that we could use for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. I
+ could prepare that one too, but I don't think it's worth spending much
+ time testing that version.

[Bug 1685870] Re: [MIR] gnome-shell

2017-05-17 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
- Despite what is claimed in the bug description; iio-sensor-proxy is still a
Recommend, would need a MIR.
- There appears to be test that could run for gnome-shell, but they aren't
obviously being run as part of the build -- make check does not appear to run
run-tests.sh.
- There are a few older bugs filed against gnome-shell (but perhaps belong
elsewhere) that are confirmed/triaged, but do not appear to have been
upstreamed.

[Bug 1673398] Re: A workaround for making a default monitor in multi monitor environment is not working

2017-05-17 Thread Petr Stochl
I can confirm this.
I have fresh install of Ubuntu 17.04 and nVidia card with 2 monitors, one
rotated. I can configure it correctly in gnome-flashback and generate correct
xorg.conf in nvidia-settings, but the rotated secondary monitor is selected as
primary on login screen and is not rotated.
I "fixed" the annoyance by autologin...

There is also a tip to use /etc/lightdm/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf and put in
[greeter]
active-monitor=0 (probably 1 in my case)
but there is not such file and i am not sure where to put it.
There seems are some workarounds using xrandr and startup scripts.

It would be nice if this could work again.

[Bug 1691556] Re: Can't send audio to Amazon Echo via Bluetooth

2017-05-17 Thread Doug Morse
Additionally, this issue also appeared along the line with Ubuntu+KDE
and apparently was easily resolved, as described in ubuntuforums.org,
[link](https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2318966). Quoting
another ubuntuforums.org post (also KDE),
[link](https://askubuntu.com/questions/763539/bluetooth-speaker-no-
sound-in-ubuntu-16-04), "So far, it seems that things only go wrong
when I try to connect in A2DP mode. Until there is a real
fix/workaround, I am going to try to remember to always switch to
HSP/HSF mode before powering off or disconnecting the speaker.". So,
perhaps in the short-term for Ubuntu+Unity a similar workaround could be
found, if this is indeed the correct diagnosis, and in the longer-term
figure out why connecting in A2DP mode fails (for both KDE and Unity).

[Bug 1691041] Re: package openvpn 2.3.10-1ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: Unterprozess installiertes post-installation-Skript gab den Fehlerwert 1 zurück

2017-05-17 Thread Joshua Powers
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

What is the runmbb service? From a quick search it looks like that is
not from Ubuntu and someone had a similar issue here:

https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+question/284708

Take a look at that resolution and try that.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I am marking this bug as 'Incomplete'.

However, if you believe that this is really a bug in Ubuntu, then we would
be grateful if you would provide a more complete description of the problem
with steps to reproduce, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu
rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug
status back to "New".

For local configuration issues, you can find assistance here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

[Bug 1691556] Re: Can't send audio to Amazon Echo via Bluetooth

2017-05-17 Thread Doug Morse
I should also note that on the askubuntu.com site, I speculate that it
may just be some permission issue deep down somewhere, and why.

** Description changed:

- Pairing and coupling to Amazon Echo works, but sound is heard.
+ Pairing and coupling to Amazon Echo works, but no sound is heard.

I believe the issue is related to the fact that Amazon Echo is paired as
a handset (i.e., speaker + microphone) rather than just as a speaker. I
believe the critical error is found in a dmesg line such as:

  Feb 28 10:59:05 n1 bluetoothd[1025]: a2dp-source profile connect failed
for 50:F5:DA:A6:3F:EA: Device or resource bus

as I describe in the askubuntu.com discussion at:

  via-bluetooth

I have clarified there my thinking and the steps I've taken thus far on
this issue, which includes trying debug bluetooth per the Ubuntu wiki
page which describes how to do so.

This is probably an upstream issue, as Mike H-R has commented there that
the problem also occurs on ArchLinux.

I and a few others would like to get this resolved, and I am happy to
help (I'm a software developer). However, at this point, I'm not sure
how to proceed without some assistance. I suppose I could report it to
Debain, but I've only ever used Debain vis a vis Ubuntu, so I thought it
  best to start here.

[Bug 1690706] Re: Tests are not being run

2017-05-17 Thread Iain Lane
It does help. It changes the error message to:

libcolord-gtk:ERROR:cd-self-test.c:45:cd_window_get_profile_cb: assertion
failed (error == NULL): failed to connect to colord: Could not connect: No such
file or directory (cd_window_error, 0)
FAIL cd-self-test (exit status: 134)

But of course, there's no system bus inside the chroot and colord lives
on the system bus.

I think this could in theory be an autopkgtest. If you compile just the
test:

  $ gcc $(pkg-config --cflags colord-gtk) -DCD_COMPILATION cd-self-test.c
$(pkg-config --libs colord-gtk) -o cd-self-test
  $ dbus-run-session -- xvfb-run -a ./cd-self-test
  [...]
  ERROR:cd-self-test.c:45:cd_window_get_profile_cb: assertion failed (error ==
NULL): no device with that property: property match 'XRANDR_name'='screen' does
not exist (cd_window_error, 0)

it doesn't quite work, but nearly. Maybe upstream would have an idea
here.

[Bug 1691556] [NEW] Can't send audio to Amazon Echo via Bluetooth

2017-05-17 Thread Doug Morse
Public bug reported:

Pairing and coupling to Amazon Echo works, but no sound is heard.

I believe the issue is related to the fact that Amazon Echo is paired as
a handset (i.e., speaker + microphone) rather than just as a speaker. I
believe the critical error is found in a dmesg line such as:

Feb 28 10:59:05 n1 bluetoothd[1025]: a2dp-source profile connect failed
for 50:F5:DA:A6:3F:EA: Device or resource busy

as I describe in the askubuntu.com discussion at:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/871630/cant-send-audio-to-amazon-echo-
via-bluetooth

Thanks.

[Bug 1691557] [NEW] [MIR] opal-prd

2017-05-17 Thread Adam Conrad
Public bug reported:

[ Availability ]
opal-prd has been in universe since xenial

[ Rationale ]
IBM is requesting opal-prd be installed by hw-detect on OpenPower systems to
provide "acpid-like" functionality on OpenPower systems.

[ Security ]
I can find no CVEs relating to skiboot or opal-prd, which could mean it's
perfect, but probably means it's just not been abused thoroughly by anyone yet.
Given a root daemon is involved, it could probably use a quick once-over.

[ Quality ]
skiboot is maintained in Debian by Frederic Bonnard, an IBM employee, has 0
open bugs in Debian, and 0 open bugs in Ubuntu.

opal-prd installs a single daemon, asks no debconf questions, has
systemd support, and comes configured correctly out of the box.

[ Dependencies ]
opal-prd has no dependencies outside main.

[ Maintenance ]
skiboot uses dh(1) style packaging, is lintian-clean, and the packaging is
pretty clear and simple.

** Affects: skiboot (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Assignee: Ubuntu Security Team (ubuntu-security)
 Status: Incomplete

[Bug 1025528] Re: Gedit displays garbled overlaid text on long line text file

2017-05-17 Thread Jussi
I'm now using only Linux Mint and I don't quite understand what version
of gedit I'm supposed to have.

Synaptic says latest and installed version is gedit_2.30.5+qiana.

Linux Mint website says: Qiana (3.10.4-0ubuntu4)
https://community.linuxmint.com/software/view/gedit

And gedit says: gedit - Version 2.30.4

So, in short the version numbering is so fucked up, it is impossible to
say what I have installed from the repo.

What comes to the bug, it is now different; gedit freezes when opening
that file.

[Bug 1689938] Re: package mysql-server-5.7 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

2017-05-17 Thread Joshua Powers
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

Per the log message above, the mysql install has failed because you are
attempting to downgrade the version. If you really do wish to do this, then
follow the steps in the message to force the downgrade. However, be warned
this may cause unexpected behavior.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I am marking this bug as 'Incomplete'.

However, if you believe that this is really a bug in Ubuntu, then we would
be grateful if you would provide a more complete description of the problem

[Bug 1691551] [NEW] warnings are still printed after user touches file

2017-05-17 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

When cloud-init shows a warning with Z99-cloudinit-warnings.sh (such as
on login after a ds-identify error), it suggests that you can:

Disable the warnings above by:
  touch /home/ubuntu/.cloud-warnings.skip
or
  touch /var/lib/cloud/instance/warnings/.skip

The second file (/var/lib/cloud/) is not honored.

The easiest recreate is:
$ name="x1"
$ lxc launch ubuntu-daily:xenial $name
$ sleep 10
$ lxc exec $name -- sh -c 'd=/var/lib/cloud/instance/warnings/; mkdir -p $d;
echo "WARNING WARNING FOO" > "$d/warn-foo"'

## see the warning is there.
$ lxc exec $name -- bash --login In Progress

[Bug 1688132] Re: Support IPMI system interface on Cavium ThunderX

2017-05-17 Thread dann frazier
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
- Just loading the necessary modules is not enough to get a working IPMI system
interface (/dev/ipmi0) on Cavium ThunderX CRBs, and other ThunderX-based
Gigabyte servers. You have to do some magic:
-
- echo ipmi_ssif 0x12 >/sys/bus/i2c/devices/i2c-4/new_device
-   or maybe:
- echo ipmi_ssif 0x12 >/sys/bus/i2c/devices/i2c-5/new_device
-
- Loading the modules should be enough.
+ The IPMI system interface (/dev/ipmi0) is unavailable on Cavium
ThunderX-based systems. This prevents various in-band management tasks,
including auto-enlistment using MAAS.

  [Test Case]
  sudo modprobe ipmi_ssif
  sudo modprobe ipmi_devintf

Do you have a working /dev/ipmi0?
  sudo ipmitool lan print

  [Regression Risk]
- The driver being fixed is only used on ThunderX-based systems, and is
currently not usable w/o the above manual config.
+ For hwe-z, this is a small fix to a driver that is only used on
ThunderX-based systems, and is currently not usable w/o magic manual steps.
+
+ For hwe-x and hwe-y, this also impacts the i2c-octeon driver. After
+ hwe-y, upstream split that driver into 2 pieces to factor out code that
+ could be shared with i2c-thunderx, and then i2c-thunderx was added. i2c-
+ octeon is a driver for Cavium OCTEON systems, which are MIPS64 - an
+ architecture unsupported by Ubuntu, so regression risk is negligible.
+ i2c-thunderx is a new driver that is only loaded on ThunderX-based
+ systems, so the testing we've performed on ThunderX should mitigate that
+ regression risk.
+
+ Note: there are issues with older firmware (version varies depending on
+ platform) where the IPMI device can vanish between reboots, requiring a
+ BMC reset to recover. This doesn't cause any other problem - drivers
+ don't load, and it's as if this driver was never added. However, it is
+ worth noting here in case people google it. Please upgrade your firmware
+ if you run into this.

[Bug 1680599] Re: unattended-upgrades crashes without writing to the log on invalid config file entries

2017-05-17 Thread Brian Murray
I've recreated this and submitted it to the Ubuntu Error Tracker and
apparently I'm the only one who has.

upgrade%3AValueError%3A/usr/bin/unattended-

Regardless, I'll get it fixed in the development release of Ubuntu.

[Bug 1691014] Re: package libmysqld-dev 5.7.18-0ubuntu0.17.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libmysqlservices.a', which is also in package libmysqlclient-d

2017-05-17 Thread Joshua Powers
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

It looks like you have an old libmysqlclient-dev package installed,
which is colliding with the package found in 17.04. It would be good
to know how that older package got installed in the first place since
your install looks like a fresh 17.04 and not an upgrade.

In either case if you remove that package it should help you make more
progress to get past this issue.

[Bug 1691549] [NEW] WIth recent update multiple applications have issues with mic

2017-05-17 Thread Nazar Mokrynskyi
Public bug reported:

After recent update to 1.12 I'm getting issues with microphone: when using
microphone in TeamSpeak 3 it only works for few minutes, afterwards I can only
hear, but not talk. Start Conflict game simply freezes at certain places.
The only audio-related update I can find in recent days is gstreamer, but I
can't yet find any patch for sources to see what was actually changed in recent
update.

** Affects: gstreamer1.0 (Ubuntu)
