[Bug 1680956] Re: Fail to launch an OpenStack Instance with hugepages on top of OVS+DPDK

2017-06-21 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Comment in config accepted in Deb DPDK - and integrated in latest Ubuntu due to
merge.
The comment is not SRU worthy, and a very complex solution out of the hugepage
confusion overall is out of the scope of the bug.

[Bug 1699671] [NEW] installer crashes on this machine

2017-06-21 Thread JOAO PEDRO PALACIOS COSTA LOPES
Public bug reported:

I am trying to install Lubuntu 16.10 on this machine. Preferably with
EFI secure boot options. It does not work. Upgraded BIOS and all
firmware. Still didn't work. Tried to install normally with legacy BIOS
settings still doesn't work. After every attempt i low-level formatted
the SSD.

I am available to solve this problem, please contact me at any time. If
you want we can talk by skype.

PS: i cannot seem to be able to attach both log files syslog and partman
as you ask. But the problem seems to repeat itself. So i will send the
partman wich seems to be more associated with not being able to instal
grub2 ( happened always ).

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1699672] [NEW] systemctl status Failed to read server status: Connection timed out

2017-06-21 Thread sles
Public bug reported:

I run 5 Ubuntu 16.04 as kvm VMs on centos 7.
Yesterday, after installing updates, I can't reboot them, because systemd
connection timeout.
After reboot
systemctl status
worked fine, but today I get on one of these servers:

systemctl status
Failed to read server status: Connection timed out

I guess after some time I'll have this on all of them.

Looks like bug.

Thank you!

[Bug 1699670] [NEW] Gnome screensaver lock always responses "incorrect password" when last active window's language is not the language of the password

2017-06-21 Thread Andrew Frolikov
Public bug reported:

Environment:
OS - Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS, DE - GNOME Shell 3.20.4, gnome-screensaver 3.6.1

Prerequisites:
 - say, you have 2 language layouts installed
 - their layouts/character tables are completely different, so there is no
chance you can type your password correctly using any language keyboard layout
(e.g. you have en/ru, but not en/de etc.)

Actual behavior:
When the screen is being locked while your active window has the language which
is not your password language set, you won't be able to log in back. Log in
form shows that the language of the password is set (EN in my case) but it
always returns 'Incorrect password' message in response to the correct input.
Switching language layout using the keyboard shortcut or GUI doesn't help.
'Switch user' trick allows you to log in back though, but it's a crutch.

[Bug 220263] Re: Bad Firefox integration with dark themes

2017-06-21 Thread Anders Kaseorg
Firefox 47 worked around this by disabling the dark theme entirely.

Firefox 55 beta supports two new independent about:config settings,
widget.chrome.allow-gtk-dark-theme and widget.content.allow-gtk-dark-
theme (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1158076). The
former gets you a dark-themed UI without messing up web page content.

Appears to succeed, but
http://... and https://localhost:666 and :1666 and
http://:666 and :1666
all refuse connections from localhost, even with both ports specifically
opened, or with firewall off.

Same on Debian 9 with latest updates.

Not sure if this is actually a darkstat bug - apologies if not but I
can't see what's wrong otherwise.

[Bug 1699659] [NEW] phpquery always returns 0

2017-06-21 Thread Jason Short
Public bug reported:

In the course of diagnosing an issue with a PHP module (xdebug in this
case) kept re-enabling itself during upgrades of libapache2-mod-php7.0,
I found the following:

1. libapache2-mod-php7.0 postscript sources /usr/lib/php/php-
maintscript-helper from php-common to re-enable modules that have not
been administratively disabled.

2. php-maintscript-helper calls phpenmod based on the output and return
codes of phpquery

3. phpquery calls its own action() function, which initializes the $ret
variable to 0

4. phpquery action() calls into various other functions in the script,
and sets the $ret variable based on their returns

5. phpquery action() returns 0

6. php-maintscript-helper correspondingly calls phpenmod on all
available php modules for the apache2 SAPI

Source link for xenial:
https://git.launchpad.net/~usd-import-team/ubuntu/+source/php-defaults/tree/phpquery?h=ubuntu/xenial#n162

the following addition to action() after the esac is necessary to bubble
up the internal functions' returns:

return $ret

[Bug 1699660] [NEW] systemd-resolve breaks resolution of local network hostnames

2017-06-21 Thread Forest
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Ubuntu 17.04 (zesty), resolution of my local
network's host names is completely broken. Apparently the upgrade
replaced my existing resolver with systemd-resolve, which deliberately
refuses to pass "single-label" domain names to my domain name server.
That is the server where all my network's host names are kept, so I can
no longer resolve any of them.

Apparently, this is yet another example of Poettering's upstream decisions
causing denial of service to people who have been saddled with his malware.
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/2514#issuecomment-179203186

Would someone sensible please put a stop to this forced breakage during
upgrade, and advise on how to fix it now that the damage has been done?

[Bug 1693155] Re: Distorted blurry battery indicator in gnome-shell (using ubuntu-mono icons at default low-DPI scale 1.0)

2017-06-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Actually, this might work (and I apologise to design for troubling them
if it does):

1. Ensure we use the SVGs from "22": /usr/share/icons/ubuntu-mono-
dark/status/22/

2. Fix gnome-shell to add square padding, avoiding distortion.

The battery icons in 22/ have a narrower width (26x22 px) so should
render to gnome-shell more clearly than 16/ (32x16px) or 24/ (32x24px)
that would both pad out to 32x32 and then get scaled down too much to be
readable.

[Bug 1681513] Re: Ubuntu 17.04/17.10: New feature in NetworkManager stops several WiFi adapters from working (MAC Address Randomization issue)

2017-06-21 Thread PJSingh5000
In my logs, I see the message:
"...aborting authentication ...by local choice (Reason: 3=DEAUTH_LEAVING)"
(I've listed below the relevant portion of the log file, since the logs above
do not include this particular error).

The solution posted in comment #1
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-
manager/+bug/1681513/comments/1) worked for me...

$ sudo nano /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf
# Append...
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
[Device]
wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=no
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
$ sudo service network-manager restart

I did not need to install dnsmasq-base, as suggested in comment #24
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1681513/comments/24).
What is the purpose of installing this?

[Bug 1699642] [NEW] mipmaps not generated for thumbnail windows

2017-06-21 Thread CatKiller
Public bug reported:

Using Compiz 0.9.12.2 under Ubuntu 16.04.2, with NVidia driver 375.66 on
a GTX 960.

Window preview mipmaps are not generated for the task switcher, or for
the Static Application Switcher. The Ring Switcher seems to display
properly, as does Scale.

Thumbnail image quality was much better than this in previous versions.

** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1699627] Re: XDP eBPF programs fail to verify on Zesty ppc64el

2017-06-21 Thread Daniel Axtens
** Description changed:

  SRU Justification

  [Impact]
Some XDP examples such as https://github.com/netoptimizer/prototype-kernel
fail on ppc64el at the eBPF verification stage.

  [Fix]
This is because CONFIG_HAS_EFFICIENT_UNALIGNED_ACCESS is not set on ppc64el.
It is not set because the kernel is being compiled for CPU_POWER7 instead of
CPU_POWER8, and we don't have efficient unaligned access on POWER7.

  Swap to building for POWER8.

As a bonus, this should make everything a little bit faster.

  [Regression Potential]

- - IBM never released any officially supported Power7 LE systems - LE
+  - IBM never released any officially supported Power7 LE systems - LE
was only ever supported on Power8. Therefore this should not break any
  systems.

- - Regression potential is also limited to one arch.
+  - Regression potential is also limited to one arch.

- - Artful-next already has this fix and nothing bad has happened there.
+  - Artful-next already has this fix and nothing bad has happened there.

  [Test]
- On a P8 VM with a virtio network card and 2 vcpus:
+ Create a P8 VM with a virtio network card and 2 vcpus.
+
+ The VM needs to have some network features turned off, and enough
+ queues. The following virsh snippet in the section should
+ suffice:
+
+
+
+
+
+
+ Then:
+ - apt install clang llvm
  - get the prototype-kernel repo
- - go to the kernel/samples/bpf directory-
+ - go to the kernel/samples/bpf directory
  - make
  - sudo mount -t bpf bpf /sys/fs/bpf/
  - sudo ./xdp_ddos01_blacklist --dev enp0s1

Observe that without this patch, we get a long debug splat ending with:

  32: (61) r1 = *(u32 *)(r8 +12)
misaligned packet access off 0+18+12 size 4
  load_bpf_file: Permission denied

With this patch we don't get that error and the program is successfully
verifies and loads. (It still doesn't run - there is other breakage I'm
chasing down - but it definitely gets further.)

[Bug 1694859] Re: arm64 kernel crashdump support

2017-06-21 Thread dann frazier
** Description changed:

Note: Updates are being staged at ppa:dannf/arm64-kdump.

  [Impact]
It is not possible to collect a kernel crash dump from a crashed arm64 server
for later debugging.

  [Test Case]
  sudo apt install kdump-tools
(reboot, so crashkernel= is added to the kernel commandline)
  echo c | sudo tee /proc/sysrq-trigger

Crash dump should occur, with artifacts collected in /var/crash.

If you want to verify that the dump is usable, install the corresponding
  linux-image--dbgsym package and run:

  sudo crash /usr/lib/debug/boot/vmlinux-
  /var/crash//dump.

crash should successfully load, placing you at a "crash>" prompt. At
that prompt, you can issue the 'bt' command to see a backtrace.

  [Regression Risk]
+ = Kernel =
3 patches here touch code outside of arch/arm64/:

  memblock: add memblock_clear_nomap()
This adds a new function with no callers, so regression risk is negligible.
(A later patch adds a call to it under arch/arm64/).

  memblock: add memblock_cap_memory_range()
This refactors some of the code in memblock_mem_limit_remove_map() into a new
function. The only existing caller of memblock_mem_limit_remove_map() is under
arch/arm64/, so the regression risk outside of arm64 is negligible.

efi/libstub/arm*: Set default address and size cells values for an empty dtb
Because this code is for EFI platforms that support device-tree, it is
de-facto ARM-specific (as noted in the patch title).

For arm64, we have mitigated the risk by explicit regression testing on
several platforms:
   - Qualcomm QDF2400
   - Cavium ThunderX CRB1S
   - HP m400 (X-Gene)
   - HiSilicon D05 (Hi07)
+
+ = kexec-tools =
+ TBD

[Bug 1694225] Re: [Thinkpad T450s] Click lock effect on trackpoint left button when touchpad is disabled

2017-06-21 Thread Anders Kaseorg
I have the same problem on a ThinkPad Yoga 14 20FY. I can reproduce it
with the touchpad disabled as described in this report. However, I find
it much easier to reproduce (nearly 100% of the time) with the touchpad
enabled, as follows:

1. With my left finger, hold down the trackpoint’s left button.
2. With my right finger, move the pointer with the trackpad.
3. Release my right finger from the trackpad.
4. Release my left finger from the button. The button has become “stuck” down!
5. Put a finger back on the trackpad. Now the earlier button release gets
recognized.

evtest on the trackpoint (ETPS/2 Elantech TrackPoint) shows that the
trackpoint knows the button is pressed at step 1 and released at step 4,
but evtest on the touchpad (ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad) shows that the
touchpad thinks another copy of the button has been pressed at step 1
and not released until step 5.

The problem is still present in kernel 4.12-rc6 from the mainline
archive. (I haven’t been able to figure out if enabling the new drivers
in 4.12 is supposed to require manual configuration, but simply booting
into the new kernel didn’t fix it.)
