[Bug 1703106] Re: package amavisd-new 1:2.10.1-2ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2017-07-11 Thread Andreas Hasenack
Yes, an invalid configuration will keep generating an error :)

How about you set something like this up:

echo myhostname | sudo tee /etc/hostname
sudo hostname myhostname
echo 127.0.1.1 myhostname.homenet myhostname | tee -a /etc/hosts

After that, the "hostname" command should return "myhostname", and
"hostname -f" (the important one for this case) should return
"myhostname.homenet".

How are you using amavisd without an smtp server? Or is it in another
machine? I'll note that you have this error in your logs as well, so
something is at least trying to use postfix:

jui 08 07:49:49 hostname postfix/sendmail[2988]: fatal: open
/etc/postfix/main.cf: No such file or directory

[Bug 1701344] Re: virt-manager fails to delete /var/lib/libvirt/qemu/nvram/VMName_VARS.fd after installation is cancelled.

2017-07-11 Thread Mike Matera
My pleasure. Here's what I tried:

Part 1:
 - Create a VM with the wrong firmware. Try to start it (fails). Abort using
the Cancel button.
 - Verify that /var/lib/libvirt/qemu/nvram/TEST123_VARS.fd exists.
 - Run virsh:

$ virsh undefine --nvram TEST123
error: failed to get domain 'TEST123'
error: Domain not found: no domain with matching name 'TEST123'

So the cancel does remove the domain. Move on to part 2.

Part 2:

Looking for ways to "abort it hard" in the GUI: Once the VM has started
with the wrong firmware there are three ways out of the customize
hardware window:

  1. Begin Installation: Fails and takes you back where you started.
  2. Cancel Installation: Causes the problem reported.
  3. Swatting the window with the "X": Same as #2

So at this point it looks like there's no way to abort the leak of the
firmware file. So, I checked for a denial by AppArmor:

$ dmesg -T | tail -n 5
[Tue Jul 11 10:40:18 2017] audit: type=1400 audit(1499794771.816:77):
apparmor="STATUS" operation="profile_replace" profile="unconfined"
name="libvirt-239ba97a-d01b-4127-916c-0f07d7c66e0a" pid=2242
comm="apparmor_parser"
[Tue Jul 11 10:40:18 2017] audit: type=1400 audit(1499794771.844:78):
apparmor="STATUS" operation="profile_replace" profile="unconfined"
name="libvirt-239ba97a-d01b-4127-916c-0f07d7c66e0a//qemu_bridge_helper"
pid=2242 comm="apparmor_parser"
[Tue Jul 11 10:40:18 2017] br0: port 2(vnet0) entered disabled state
[Tue Jul 11 10:40:18 2017] device vnet0 left promiscuous mode
[Tue Jul 11 10:40:18 2017] br0: port 2(vnet0) entered disabled state

Those are not denials. They look like what happens when you create a VM,
but I'm not certain.

Next, I checked if using virsh from the command line leaks the NVRAM
file:

  1. Create a VM, customize it to use UEFI with the correct arch.
  2. Start the installer and force-off the VM.
  3. Check for deletion:

# ls /var/lib/libvirt/qemu/nvram/
TEST1234_VARS.fd
# virsh undefine --nvram TEST1234
Domain TEST1234 has been undefined
# ls /var/lib/libvirt/qemu/nvram/
TEST1234_VARS.fd

virsh does not delete the file. So it's conclusively an issue with both
the command line and the GUI. So looking at the code you provided I went
to find the corresponding XML and I found this fragment:

hvm
/usr/share/OVMF/OVMF_CODE.fd

I've never used XML in Python, so I can't be certain, but it seems like
this line:

if (self.get_xmlobj().os.loader_ro is True and

Should look like this:

if (self.get_xmlobj().os.loader_readonly is True and

The second line matches the XML attribute exactly.

Hope this helps!

[Bug 1703663] [NEW] ISST-LTE: Briggs:Stratton:UbuntuKVM: ics_opal_set_affinity on host kernel log using Intel X710 (i40e driver)

2017-07-11 Thread bugproxy
Public bug reported:

We have an issue with the i40e driver, present in kernels pre-4.8, like
Xenial v4.4 (from Ubuntu 16.04.1).

i40e driver has an issue in interrupt vector assignment in case of
sparse CPU masks, like when some CPUs are disabled. The driver does a
linear mapping not taking gaps on cpumask into account. This is a
problem in systems with multiple logical CPUs per core (like in SMT
scenarios).

If we disable some logical CPUs, by turning SMT off for example, we will
end up with a sparse cpu_online_mask, i.e., only the first CPU in a core
is online, and the incremental/linear filling in the interrupt cpumask
might lead to multiple offline CPUs being assigned to the struct
q_vector in the driver, leading to issues when interrupts are requested,
like the following message in PowerPC systems:

[141.97] ics_opal_set_affinity: No online cpus in the mask
0020,,, for irq 302

This message is output of interrupt controller in Power systems, a complain
that the cpumask does not make sense to that particular system.

[Bug 1703662] [NEW] [MIR] rhythmbox-plugin-alternative-toolbar

2017-07-11 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug reported:

[Availability]

The package is a python plugin and of type arch all, it's building fine in
artful
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox-plugin-alternative-toolbar/0.17.3-1

[Rationale]

The plugin improves the look of rhythmbox and the desktop team believes
it would be a welcome change to the default experience.

[Security]

The plugin only change UI layouts and has no known security report.

[Quality assurance]

The package is in sync with Debian and has no open bugs on the Debian
BTS nor on launchpad. Upstream seems active though activity is rather
low (but there are no open bugs or request so not a lot is needed)

[Dependencies]

The dependency are minimal and already in main

[Standards compliance]

The packaging is classic dh and using the current standards.

[Maintenance]

The package is well maintained upstream and in Debian, the Ubuntu
Desktop team is going to keep an eye on it in Ubuntu though (desktop-
bugs is subscribed)

[Background information]

The description summarize what the package is doing "Enhanced play
controls and interface for Rhythmbox"

[Bug 1703640] Re: nplan and libnss-resolve should be in same dependency

2017-07-11 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
I don't think it is; you should be able to use things just as well with
/etc/resolv.conf, and having systemd-networkd (or systemd-resolved)
update it, depending on whether this is automatic via DHCP or for a
static IP.

Regardless, in general I tend to agree libnss-resolve probably should be
included at the same level as nplan; this will need some more testing.

In any case, not a bug in nplan, possibly a bug for libnss-resolve
(systemd); so reassigning.

I can confirm that case2 i386 (see comments 39, 40 by Rostislav Stříbrný
(rstribrn) ) produce segmentation fault on
"4.4.0-83-generic #106-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jun 26 17:54:43 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64
x86_64 GNU/Linux"
with log:
bash: line 1: 11948 Segmentation fault (core dumped)
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-i386/jre/lib/i386/server/libjvm.so
./test_openjdk_i386_case2

Do not forget to install gcc-multilib package before running test.

Here is backtrace with gdb:

[Bug 1703654] [NEW] [MIR] rhythmbox-plugin-alternative-toolbar

2017-07-11 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug reported:

[Availability]

The package is a python plugin and of type arch all, it's building fine in
artful
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox-plugin-alternative-toolbar/0.17.3-1

[Rationale]

The plugin improves the look of rhythmbox and the desktop team believes
it would be a welcome change to the default experience.

[Security]

The plugin only change UI layouts and has no known security report.

[Quality assurance]

The package is in sync with Debian and has no open bugs on the Debian
BTS nor on launchpad. Upstream seems active though activity is rather
low (but there are no open bugs or request so not a lot is needed)

[Dependencies]

The dependency are minimal and already in main

[Standards compliance]

The packaging is classic dh and using the current standards.

[Maintenance]

The package is well maintained upstream and in Debian, the Ubuntu
Desktop team is going to keep an eye on it in Ubuntu though (desktop-
bugs is subscribed)

[Background information]

The description summarize what the package is doing "Enhanced play
controls and interface for Rhythmbox"

[Bug 1647199] Re: ELAN touchpad acts as generic mouse after firmware update

2017-07-11 Thread Atti
Perhaps I've got the same problem but there's something that I don't
understand since I don't know much about hardware/driver. Does
downgrading linux-firmware through synaptic "force version" solve the
problem? Or the upgraded versions wrote something permanent in some I
don't know flash EPROM.. ?!

My touchpad STOPPED WORKING at all, it is not recognized in linux nor in
windows (I've a dual boot). I've downgraded linux-firmware with synaptic
from 1.157.11 to 1.157.8 but this didn't solve the problem. The previous
installed version 1.157.5 is not in synaptic.

Any suggestions?

[Bug 1703649] [NEW] Traceroute needs net_admin capability for unknown reason

2017-07-11 Thread Vincas Dargis
Public bug reported:

With help of AppArmor on 17.04 and 17.10 I've discovered that traceroute
needs net_admin capabilities.

My plan is to update [0] AppArmor profile to fix various DENIED messages
in syslog/audit for traceroute, though I am not sure about allowing, or
denying, net_admin capability.

Looks like traceroute tries to set SO_RCVBUFFORCE and SO_SNDBUFFORCE:

setsockopt(4, SOL_SOCKET, SO_RCVBUFFORCE, [8388608], 4) = -1 EPERM (Operation
not permitted)
setsockopt(4, SOL_SOCKET, SO_RCVBUF, [8388608], 4) = 0
setsockopt(4, SOL_SOCKET, SO_SNDBUFFORCE, [8388608], 4) = -1 EPERM (Operation
not permitted)
setsockopt(4, SOL_SOCKET, SO_SNDBUF, [8388608], 4) = 0
setsockopt(4, SOL_SOCKET, SO_RCVBUFFORCE, [8388608], 4) = -1 EPERM (Operation
not permitted)

setsockopt(4, SOL_SOCKET, SO_SNDBUFFORCE, [8388608], 4) = -1 EPERM (Operation
not permitted)
setsockopt(4, SOL_SOCKET, SO_SNDBUF, [8388608], 4) = 0
setsockopt(4, SOL_SOCKET, SO_RCVBUFFORCE, [8388608], 4) = -1 EPERM (Operation
not permitted)
setsockopt(4, SOL_SOCKET, SO_RCVBUF, [8388608], 4) = 0
setsockopt(4, SOL_SOCKET, SO_SNDBUFFORCE, [8388608], 4) = -1 EPERM (Operation
not permitted)
setsockopt(4, SOL_SOCKET, SO_SNDBUF, [8388608], 4) = 0
setsockopt(4, SOL_SOCKET, SO_RCVBUFFORCE, [8388608], 4) = -1 EPERM (Operation
not permitted)
setsockopt(4, SOL_SOCKET, SO_RCVBUF, [8388608], 4) = 0
setsockopt(4, SOL_SOCKET, SO_SNDBUFFORCE, [8388608], 4) = -1 EPERM (Operation
not permitted)

What is interesting, that traceroute developer does not recall changing
these values [1]. On Debian Sid and OpenSuse Tumbleweed this issue does
not reproduce either.

Could it be some Ubuntu-specific patch in the works? It seems that
traceroute works OK without net_admin...

Thanks!

Ubuntu, AFAIK).

1. a Github site that generates this files
https://github.com/winterheart/broadcom-bt-firmware
2. the Microsoft URL:

[Bug 1700373] Re: intel-microcode is out of date, version 20170511 fixes errata on 6th and 7th generation platforms

2017-07-11 Thread David Jordan
The 20170707 version would be ideal to SRU for Xenial (and Zesty) since
it fixes the hyperthreading defect on Skylake, Skylake-X, and Kabylake.
The Kabylake fix is especially important. There is a lot of demand from
users for a fix, and bios updates really aren't an ideal way to deliver
it.

[Bug 1699850] Re: Reliable network connectivity for apt-daily

2017-07-11 Thread Julian Andres Klode
This sort of depends on https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/2582
as we can't restart oneshot units apparently. In the meantime, maybe we
could pull the service in on resumes, and use a long time out for the
helper, with it retrying until the timeout happens (like an hour or so).

Ideas welcome.

[Bug 1703640] [NEW] nplan and libnss-resolve should be in same dependency

2017-07-11 Thread Stefan Bader
Public bug reported:

I am filing this under nplan because I don't know what better anchor to
use. I discovered for systems which I bring up by using debootstrap and
then extend that installation to be bootable, I end up with nplan
installed but not libnss-resolve. This results in broken DNS resolution
when starting to use nplan.

It looks like nplan is a dependency of ubuntu-minimal but libnss-resolve
is only in ubuntu-standard. But it is also required when using networkd
as renderer for netplan.

[Bug 1703638] [NEW] [snap] symlink ~/.fonts by default to $SNAP_USER_DATA

2017-07-11 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Public bug reported:

(initially reported here: https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/call-for-testing-
libreoffice-5-3-4-snap/1205/2)

The libreoffice snap doesn't seem to find custom fonts installed by the
user under $HOME/.fonts/. It does find them after copying/linking them
under $SNAP_USER_DATA/.fonts/ though, so ideally that link would happen
automatically.

[Bug 1696445] Re: OpenPower: Some multipaths temporarily have only a single path

2017-07-11 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From mauri...@br.ibm.com 2017-07-11 12:07 EDT---
Marking verification done for zesty and yakkety.

Unfortunately the hardware to verify this is not available anymore, but
the patch is trivial and quite contained, so the code inspection of the
diffs in -proposed revealed it is present and correct.

https://launchpadlibrarian.net/326107857/linux_4.8.0-58.63_4.8.0-59.64.diff.gz
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/326184317/linux_4.10.0-26.30_4.10.0-28.32.diff.gz

Both contain the 3 chunks from the patch in

https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2017-June/084718.html

cheers,
Mauricio

[Bug 1703091] Re: Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception in interrupt

2017-07-11 Thread Joao Luis
Answering to note 7,

>From 12 boot sequences (there was 2 seconds waiting in power-off mode
before starting the next boot), the results where:

Kernel 4.4.0-83.106 crashed on boot (with the same error) 5 out of 6
times.

Kernel 4.4.76-040476 crashed 0 (zero) out of 6 times.

Looking good for 4.4.76-040476!

PS: No errors while installing kernel 4.4.76-040476, and virtualbox
seems fine running too, although not relevant for now.

2017-07-11 Thread José Tomás Atria
I can confirm that installing ubuntu-sounds fixes the issue reported at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kubuntu-meta/+bug/1684108

I have to ask though, is adding an extra dependency on a GNOME package
the correct solution for Kubuntu? Isn't there some desktop-agnostic way
of referring to system sound files that would be preferable for KDE
users?

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
