Noel: Ask apt and dpkg how they work, and part of the installation post- install *tests* is that it installs and starts with a default config. This has always been a part of how Debian works. [Bug 1705137] [NEW] ACPI platform nics names change after install
Public bug reported: systemd in xenial-proposed has support for predictable network interfaces names for ACPI-described platform devices. However, the latest d-i in xenial-proposed was built with the previous systemd upload. This has a nasty side-effect that the NICs will have one name during install (e.g. eth1) but, after reboot, will have a different name (e.g. enahisic1). [Bug 1512344] Re: [Master Bug] Package nginx-* failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 (due to "Address in Use" issue)
Are't we confusing package management with service management? The purpose of packaging is to bundle software into a deployable unit for consumption by a package manager. RFC1340 is an internet standard saying "World Wide Web HTTP" can be served from port 80, and is neutral on service vendor. Until an RFC is published stating nginx, a service vendor, owns port 80 this remains a bug. Keep package management and service management separate. Package nginx into a deployable unit consumed by package managers and measure packaging success/failure in those terms. Do not package nginx into a deployable service unit for consumption by a service manager, because this is beyond the scope of packaging. packages and services are different concepts. If nginx.service subprocess fails, why is this a concern for nginx packaging? Just print a message and get the package installed, that is the expectation. There are frameworks for service management/availability which can handle service stuff. Bottom line, this is a really really bad bug and not fixing goes against principles of choice, FOSS, etc. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1512344 Title: [Master Bug] Package nginx-* failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 (due to "Address in Use" issue) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nginx/+bug/1512344/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1684240] Re: Mouse pointer behaves strangely
I'm also affected by this bug. I have a GeForce GTX 1060 Mobile video card, using nvidia-375 (375.66-0ubuntu0.17.04.1) package on Kubuntu 17.04 with backports repository (Plasma 5.10.3). [Bug 1123272] Re: high cpu usage on download (not optimised SHA256, SHA512, SHA1)
Of course you don't have a CPU bottleneck with curl, it does not run 3 or 4 hashes over everything it downloads. APT needs to hash its downloads to ensure they are secure, and it uses all available hashes to do so, so if one hash's security is compromised, we can still hopefully still rely on the others. And the topic of this bug report is indeed hash CPU usage, and I compared our CPU usage on a 1 GB test file in a tmpfs to the CPU usage of OpenSSL and Nettle. So this test operates on a data size 5 times higher than the usual packages and under optimal conditions to evaluate how fast we can hash. The test shows that on a 1 Gbit/s connection you'll likely be throttled slightly at a comparable CPU (assuming the connection reaches about 800 Mbit/s, that is, 80% efficiency). If you have a data rate of about 500 Mbit/s, you will likely be fine (not counting parallel downloads). If there are other problems reducing the download speeds, these are separate bugs. This one covers the overhead of hashing, nothing else. BTW: The original bug report talks about 20% CPU usage on a 5 year old CPU, that seems entirely reasonable and not really an issue. If your bandwidth is high, you'll have higher CPU usage for a shorter time (like 100% for 5 seconds or so). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1123272 Title: high cpu usage on download (not optimised SHA256, SHA512, SHA1) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/1123272/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
