[Bug 1535918] Re: instance.host not updated on evacuation

The problem I'm hitting is that instance.host is not updated when the compute driver is called to spawn the instance on the destination host. It is still set to the source host. It's not until after the spawn completes that the compute manager updates instance.host to reflect the destination host. The nova-powervm driver uses instance events callback mechanism during plug VIF to determine when Neutron has finished provisioning the network. The instance events code sends the event to instance.host and hence is sending the event to the source host (which is down). This causes the spawn to fail and also causes weirdness when the source host gets the events when it's powered back up. To temporarily work around the problem, I hacked in setting instance.host = CONF.host; instance.save() in the compute driver but that's not a good solution. ** Tags added: sts-sru-needed ** Patch added: "lp1535918_xenial.debdiff" https://bugs.launchpad.net/nova-powervm/+bug/1535918/+attachment/4936110/+files/lp1535918_xenial.debdiff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1535918 Title: instance.host not updated on evacuation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/cloud-archive/+bug/1535918/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Relevant patch: https://github.com/ximion/appstream/commit/28f90c3fd1926fa684370e550861a6704eb5498c I forgot that Ubuntu was using a version that is affected by this - interestingly, it only started to manifest now. I think applying the whole refactoring patch is the recommended thing to do, instead of "just" fixing the corruption, because doing so will also fix stock icon handling in this version of AppStream. I've been doing a little more investigating. I'm pretty sure this issue is this: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25262 So, if I understand this correctly, this won't/can't be fixed in X and has to be handled by your desktop environment. [Bug 287215] Re: xmodmap settings not getting honored when keyboard devices are hotplugged
I'm not running Ubuntu anymore, but I can confirm that this is a problem in Debian Stretch (and was an issue in Debian Jessie). I see similar behavior for keyboard rates set via `xset r rate`. Plugging in the USB keyboard resets the keyboard settings. Suspending while a USB keyboard is plugged in also resets the keyboard settings, though suspending without a USB keyboard attached doesn't. I suspect that whatever logic executes on plugging in the keyboard is also run on resume. For anyone looking for a workaround for mapping caps lock to escape, setting `XKBOPTIONS="caps:escape"` in `/etc/default/keyboard` (and rebooting) will do that reliably. That should work for anything that can be configured via `XKBOPTIONS`. As for the rate issue, I don't yet have a good workaround. I suspect a udev rule might do what I need, but that's also clearly a hack, so it would be nice to have a fix for this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/287215 Title: xmodmap settings not getting honored when keyboard devices are hotplugged To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/287215/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1648617] Re: package linux-image-4.4.0-47-generic keeps reporting a system problem
To be able to debug better the problem shown in DpkgTerminalLog.txt you could run: sudo cp -a /etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal / sudo sed -i 's/set -e/set -ex/' /etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal You can revert that later by: sudo mv /apt-auto-removal /etc/kernel/postinst.d/ (when not needed anymore.) I suspect that the ucaresystem-core has removed too much preventing kernel updates. Maybe you had better disable it. Does 'apt-cache policy linux-generic' show linux-generic is installed? If not, run sudo apt install linux-generic You should also make sure xenial-security is selected in Updates tab of "Software & Updates" dialog. Then setup automatic maintenance like recommended in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RemoveOldKernels#Automatic_Maintenance Then run sudo unattended-upgrade --debug and attach /var/log/unattended-upgrades/unattended-upgrades.log and latest existing /var/log/unattended-upgrades/unattended-upgrades-dpkg_* file (that is mentioned last in the former file). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1648617 Title: package linux-image-4.4.0-47-generic keeps reporting a system problem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/1648617/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1711951] [NEW] CPU fan goes full throttle triggered by waking up from suspend on Lenovo X1 Carbon (4th Gen., 2016)
Public bug reported: This is a copy of a very similar bug report which is currently marked as triaged and where my comment is ignored maybe because of that. Please see my additional remarks at the end of this report. --- Thinkpad X1 Carbon 5th generation ultrabook with i7 Kabylake CPU running Ubuntu 17.04 has its fan go full steam if the laptop is woken up from sleep/suspend. Without any sleep/suspend the laptop's fan is basically "off" or silent, even for hours. The bug has been fixed upstream, see 6625914 ACPI / EC: Drop EC noirq hooks to fix a regression 9c40f95 Revert "ACPI / EC: Enable event freeze mode..." to fix a regression and/or https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=196129 (with duplicate https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=191181) and I hope this fix will make its way into a near-future kernel update to ubuntu :) Many thanks! --- Source: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1709616 Additional remarks: - Like mentioned in https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=191181, the bug happens in other Lenovo models as well. It's not limited to the X1 Carbon 5th Gen. - The bug was fixed in kernel 4.13 but not in 4.10. This means that users who run the HWE kernel on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS will have this problem too! I can reproduce it on my local system which has "linux-image-generic- hwe-16.04" installed (4.10.0.32.34). Reading through the comments, it's not exactly clear to me which of the commits has fixed this problem, but I guess that the following two changes have made the difference: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/9835823/ https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/9835825/ I am reporting this as a new issue because the fixes from 4.13 need to be backported to 4.10 for users of the Ubuntu 16.04 HWE kernel.
