I believe everyone has the right to not be touched if they don't want
to be, but I don't like the idea that you can be done for assault as
a first resort. Clearly persistent unwanted touching is bad, but
something has gone wrong if I could potentially be fired if I touch a
coworker on the shoulder if I've misunderstood how matey we are!

I think it's probably once for downloading and once for installation,
slightly annoying I agree.

I filed it upstream, thanks for reporting!

[Bug 991471] Re: multi-device btrfs filesystem automatically mounted once for each device

2017-08-21 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Interestingly enough, one of my trusty computers apparently does not
exhibit this behaviour, even though udisks2 is installed. Partitions
get mounted via udisks2, too.

Unfortunately, the problem seems to have gotten much worse in the latest
development release. Whereas previously, each btrfs device of the btrfs
FS would be mounted once, it seems that in artful, one new mount happens
every few minutes. I came back to over 20 mounts on a three-device
btrfs FS after a few hours. This was on a very recent live CD.

[Bug 1711241] Re: Unity support patch doesn't build with nautilus 3.25.90

2017-08-21 Thread Jeremy Bicha
The crash comes from 0002-Only-use-a-header-bar-in-GNOME-shell.patch so
I disabled that patch since it wasn't clear to me what isn't working
after rebasing on 3.25. Someone interested in Unity development can take
a look at that, but I don't see a need to delay Nautilus updates because
of that. Uploaded.

[Bug 1712042] [NEW] Feature Request: Bottom Hot Corner to open Show Applications

2017-08-21 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

Hot Corners are disabled by default as of today's Ubuntu 17.10 build.

To enable them, run this from a terminal:
gsettings set org.gnome.shell enable-hot-corners true

There is a top hot corner to open the Activities Overview.

I think it makes sense to balance that by adding a bottom hot corner to
open Show Applications.

Other Info
===
You could even add a 3rd hot corner in the top right to open the system status
menu but that may actually be really annoying with the window management
buttons (minimize, maximize, close) there.

The gnome-shell patch is named "enable-hot-corners" implying that GNOME
itself plans to make use of other corners? or is that just for multi-
monitor? It might be worth asking GNOME what their current future
intentions are for that.

[Bug 1708307] Re: Broken printer icon in Printers applet

2017-08-21 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1712039] [NEW] AppArmor profile misses entry for /var/lib/snapd/desktop/applications/mimeinfo.cache

2017-08-21 Thread ts
Public bug reported:

The evince AppArmor profile seems to miss an entry for
/var/lib/snapd/desktop/applications/mimeinfo.cache.
If evince is launched, the following gets logged to syslog:

kernel: [81577.596186] audit: type=1400 audit(1503306090.062:2011):
apparmor="DENIED" operation="open" profile="/usr/bin/evince"
name="/var/lib/snapd/desktop/applications/mimeinfo.cache" pid=32268
comm="evince" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r" fsuid=1000 ouid=0

I don't know if this should be allowed or denied. If you could add the
correct behaviour to the profile, that would be nice; otherwise, every
time evince is launched, a notification pops up (apparmor-notify
installed).

(Workaround:

Add to original profile (/etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.evince):
  #include

Insert into local profile (/etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.bin.evince):
  /var/lib/snapd/desktop/applications/mimeinfo.cache r,
)

[Bug 1703365] Re: /usr/bin/update-manager:AttributeError::on_settings_button_clicked:show_settings

2017-08-21 Thread Sebastien Bacher
the patch seems too much, software-properties-gtk works fine under
wayland it's just show_settings() in UpdateManager.py which creates the
issue

cmd = ["/usr/bin/software-properties-gtk",
   "--open-tab", "2",
   "--toplevel", "%s" % self.get_window().get_xid()

the get_xid() is an x11 specific call, a better workaround would be to
just not add the toplevel argument when used under wayland

[Bug 1698368] Re: netcdf.a not installed by libnetcdf-dev

2017-08-21 Thread Grigri
Thank for the answer,

but on this official NetCDF web page we can see (21 august 2017) that autotools
(./configure command) are always used :
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf/docs/getting_and_building_netcdf.html#configure_options

I give also a solution using Cmake if you don't use autotools during
netcdf installation in ubuntu package.

Thanks,
Nicolas.

[Bug 1712030] [NEW] PXE initrd does not support most of initramfs-tools kernel parameters

2017-08-21 Thread Tymoteusz Kielan
Public bug reported:

When trying to debug PXE UEFI boot on Ubuntu Zesty, I have found that initrd
provided with ISO at
/install/netboot/ubuntu-installer/amd64/initrd.gz
does not support kernel parameters like debug, break (all cases).
In addition when repacked with additional kernel modules, they are not
autoloaded when /etc/modules or
/etc/modules-load.d/modules.conf is in use.
I think debug capability is very important in case of PXE boot.

[Bug 1712031] [NEW] PXE boot with Intel Omni-Path feature request

2017-08-21 Thread Tymoteusz Kielan
Public bug reported:

This is about ability to PXE boot over Intel Fabric.
Netboot initrd is missing infiniband kernel module stack along with hfi1.ko
(for 1st generation of Intel Omni-Path cards).
In addition some of firmware files required to load modules are also missing in
initrd.
This firmware came from existing linux-firmware package, but is not included in
netboot initrd image.
I wanted to request such feature for upcoming LTS release.

be fail. actually, with only this patch, migration_context is empty. so 0f2d87

  [Original description]

  I'm working on the nova-powervm driver for Mitaka and trying to add
  support for evacuation.

  The problem I'm hitting is that instance.host is not updated when the
  compute driver is called to spawn the instance on the destination host.
  It is still set to the source host. It's not until after the spawn
  completes that the compute manager updates instance.host to reflect the
  destination host.

  The nova-powervm driver uses instance events callback mechanism during
  plug VIF to determine when Neutron has finished provisioning the
  network. The instance events code sends the event to instance.host and
  hence is sending the event to the source host (which is down). This
  causes the spawn to fail and also causes weirdness when the source host
  gets the events when it's powered back up.

  To temporarily work around the problem, I hacked in setting
  instance.host = CONF.host; instance.save() in the compute driver but
  that's not a good solution.

[Bug 1703073] Re: Re-enable unity-launcher quicklist bookmark support for Nautilus 3.24

Gnome shell has jump-list (extension:
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/33/jump-lists/) but it also
requires zeitgeist. It doesn't have any formal api yet.

For quicklist you can use this extension:
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/322/quicklists/

[Bug 1704459] Re: rebuild needed because dependency changed location of exported libmpi.so library

2017-08-21 Thread LocutusOfBorg
please reject proj, the issue is that pcl needs an explicit dependency,
because vtk6 lost the direct one for the -dev package.

The really nice fix would have been to cherry-pick the vtk6 revert to
use the internal proj library, but this is unfeasible since it is an ABI
change. (see debian bug: #819741)

now, the smartest solution I could think is to add libproj-dev to pcl
dependencies, even if this might result in an ABI break too.
https://launchpad.net/~costamagnagianfranco/+archive/ubuntu/locutusofborg-ppa/+packages
please test this package and specially pcl reverse-dependencies in xenial with
this updated version

fixing vtk6 will require checks/rebuilds of ~10 reverse-dependencies (many of
them might have been already built with the old vtk with embedded proj, so no
change for them), while fixing pcl means only one reverse-dependency to
check/fix
"ros-pcl-conversions"

so at the end, please test, and in case you agree with my analysis,
reject proj and accept pcl

** Changed in: pcl (Ubuntu Artful)
   Status: Confirmed => Fix Released

[Bug 1696621] Re: Desktop icons slip under the top bar after logging in

2017-08-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I think the correct fix is for all docks and shells to implement _NET_WORKAREA:
https://specifications.freedesktop.org/wm-spec/wm-spec-1.3.html#idm140130317674416

Unfortunately that's an X11-only thing. nautilus-desktop certainly
relies on it being an X11 app, but if your dock is native Wayland then
we might have trouble fixing this because a native Wayland app would
have to make X11 calls to tell nautilus-desktop about the _NET_WORKAREA.

[Bug 1393476] Re: xterm freezes

2017-08-21 Thread Johan Blomqvist
It seems that xterm freezes more frequently when scrolling in larger
files in vim using vertical splits. The effect seems to be present
regardless of using tmux splits or vim splits. The effect is worse for
me when using vim-splits (which always results in laggy scrolling in all
terminals I've tried).

[Bug 1589210] Re: snap remove "core" on classic not allowed

2017-08-21 Thread Ricardo
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 17.04
Release:17.04
Codename:   zesty

To be able to remove the 'core' snap, i had to follow @azrobbo
instructions at #16:

$ sudo service snapd restart
$ df
$ sudo umount /snap/core/
$ sudo snap remove core

So my doubt is, why do i need to restart the 'snapd' service on a fresh booted
machine?!
Does it hook any process on boot?!

[Bug 1712005] Re: External displays blank, kernel errors from i915/drm driver

2017-08-21 Thread Maketsi
Continued the battle for additional 1.5 hours.
I verified that both displays work fine when connected directly to the laptop
(1 DP) without the HP ultraslim docking station (2 DPs) between.

After powering off the docking station and rebooting the system for Nth
time, I finally got the pictures back. It's worth noting that the
password prompt for disk decryption was not shown on external displays,
nor the booting sequence. X11 login prompt was the first image.

It seems this was somehow affected by the docking station. Resolved for
now, but the ultimate cause stays unknown.

[Bug 1693609] Re: Please make window control buttons larger

2017-08-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It's not just about touchscreens. Even using a mouse it takes slightly
longer to get the cursor exactly on the smaller icons.

And with touchpads this is also a bigger problem in 17.10 than previous
releases... Because the switch to libinput means (for many people) lower
touchpad precision. So it's even harder to get the cursor onto the small
window buttons.

[Bug 1693609] Re: Please make window control buttons larger

2017-08-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Actually we don't necessarily have to change the visual design at all.
We could just add invisible padding around the circular graphics that
makes their active area the same size as the bigger buttons.
