[Bug 1706939] Re: A live session can't be shut down due to "[ *** ] (2 of 2) A start job is running for ... (21s / no limit)"
Yep, this is really messy.. Did 7 boot ups > restarts & got 4 different results Twice got normal restarts that also included the pop up about 'remove media, press enter' Twice got no pop up but the shutdown was text based & 'hung' on no particular errors, ctrl+c set it going again to a completed shutdown Twice got the 'A start job is running for Hold' hang Once got the 'Wait for Network` hang (- only session where I enabled wifi.. The systemd timeout ones are the most egregious as they're no limit. Worst case scenario, is there any way to set all live session start/stop job's to a limited timeout? [Bug 735665] Re: Impossible to disable middle-click paste without breaking the middle mouse button
Support for changing this was added to GTK. You can create the file ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini with these contents: [Settings] gtk-enable-primary-paste=true Or you can just use gnome-tweak-tool, which exposes this setting as a check box. [Bug 1715521] [NEW] Video not shown in full in VLC, although shows correctly in YouTube
Public bug reported: Yahoo! Mail was not working this morning, because Yahoo had carried out an "upgrade". For that reason, I decided to record the fault using application "recordMyDesktop". I did that, and when I played the resulting .ogv video back in VLC, only part of my desktop was shown. That has happened before, so I finally decided to report that bug as well today. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk- recordmydesktop/+bug/1715517. I then loaded the (apparently) faulty video to YouTube, because I had recorded it a couple of times, with some changes to settings, but the result was the same when I played it back, and I thought the video would have some value in showing the Yahoo! Mail error anyway. However, when I watched the uploaded video in YouTube (https://youtu.be/3XtiMXaD_Q4), my full desktop is in fact shown. When I play the video in VLC, only part of the video area is shown (see screenshot of video playing back in VLC: https://imgur.com/ngJTrco). 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System -> About Ubuntu Description:Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS Release:16.04 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or by checking in Software Center vlc: Installed: 2.2.2-5ubuntu0.16.04.4 Candidate: 2.2.2-5ubuntu0.16.04.4 Version table: *** 2.2.2-5ubuntu0.16.04.4 500 500 http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial-updates/universe amd64 Packages 500 http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial-security/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2.2.2-5 500 500 http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages 3) What you expected to happen The full video area is shown during playback of the video in VLC. 4) What happened instead The full video area is not shown during playback of the video in VLC. [Bug 1712047] Re: SRU: Budgie-Welcome to support 2.7 series of webkit2gtk
** Description changed: [Impact] - In discussion with Jeremy Bicha (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/budgie-welcome/+bug/1713210), the 2.7 or latest version of webkit2gtk is due to be SRU'd to 16.04 & 17.04. + In discussion with Jeremy Bicha (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/budgie-welcome/+bug/1713210), webkit2gtk 2.18 will soon be SRU'd to 16.04 & 17.04. During artful testing, budgie-welcome segmentation faulted when running - with the 2.7 series of webkit2gtk. + with the webkit2gtk 2.18 betas (2.17.*). An initial workaround fix was applied to artful (LP: #1713210). Later discussions with upstream webkit2gtk indicated that the real reason why the segmentation fault occurred was due to calling GTK+ calls whilst inside a python thread. All GTK+ calls must be performed on the main loop thread. The impact of this issue is that the initial workaround fix for artful is no longer required and can be rewritten as recommended by upstream. The additional impact of this issue is that the 17.04 version of budgie- welcome would be similarly affected once new SRU'd version of webkit2gtk enters the archive. [Test Case] The code streams have slightly diverged so its not possible to cherry-pick the same patch from artful to zesty. Thus the debdiffs are subtly different between the two versions of budgie-welcome. The same principles have occurred to make the two debdiff's - searching for direct webkit calls and converting these to equivalent calls but on the main thread. Artful testcase: As per this bug-report, perform the following actions that are known to end with a segmentation fault. 1. open the recommendation page 2. open the budgie-applets page 3. open the getting started page 4. Install and remove a web-browser from the getting started page 5. Install an application from the recommendation page 6. Install and remove a budgie-applet from the budgie-applets page - Zesty testcase: With the current 2.6 series of webkit2gtk, perform the following actions to ensure they continue to work - i.e. regression tests + Zesty testcase: With the current 2.16 series of webkit2gtk, perform the following actions to ensure they continue to work - i.e. regression tests 1. open the recommendation page 2. open the getting started page 3. Install and remove a web-browser from the getting started page 4. Install an application from the recommendation page - Upgrade Zesty with a backported version of the current artful 2.7 series of webkit2gtk (i.e. the version that would cause segmentation faults). + Upgrade Zesty with a backported version of the current artful 2.18 series of webkit2gtk (i.e. the version that would cause segmentation faults). Repeat the above Zesty test case to ensure that segmentation faults do not occur [Regression Potential] It is possible that not all GTK+ based calls from a thread have been converted correctly and thus segmentation faults will still occur. The mitigation here is that Artful is still in its beta test phase and any further issues can be addressed and analysis of the zesty code-stream can be performed to confirm if the same issue is likely and thus can be fixed before webkit2gtk is SRU'd - [Original Description] On first login to Ubuntu Budgie, budgie-welcome is run. This crashes immediately. This has only started to occur since the new version of webkit2gtk was uploaded on Friday libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37 to reproduce - login to Ubuntu Budgie. The veth protocol is 'special' - communication between LPARs on the same chassis can use very large (64k) frames to reduce overhead. Normal networks cannot handle such large packets, so traditionally, the VIOS partition would signal to the AIX partitions that it was 'special', and AIX would send regular, ethernet-sized packets to VIOS, which VIOS would then send out. This signalling between VIOS and AIX is done in a way that is not standards-compliant, and so was never made part of Linux. Instead, the Linux driver has always understood large frames and passed them up the network stack. In some cases (e.g. with TCP), multiple TCP segments are coalesced into one large packet. In Linux, this goes through the generic receive offload code, using a similar mechanism to GSO. These segments can be very large which presents as a very large MSS (maximum segment size) or gso_size. Normally, the large packet is simply passed to whatever network application on Linux is going to consume it, and everything is OK. However, in this case, the packets go through Open vSwitch, and are then passed to the bnx2x driver. The bnx2x driver/hardware supports TSO and GSO, but with a restriction: the maximum segment size is limited to around 9700 bytes. Normally this is more than adequate as jumbo frames are limited to 9000 bytes. However, if a large packet with large (>9700 byte) TCP segments arrives through ibmveth, and is passed to bnx2x, the hardware will panic. Turning off TSO prevents the crash as the kernel resegments the data and assembles the packets in software. This has a performance cost. Clearly at the very least, bnx2x should not crash in this case. One patch to do this was sent upstream: https://www.spinics.net/lists/netdev/msg452932.html ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Daniel Axtens (daxtens) Status: Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1715519 Title: bnx2x_attn_int_deasserted3:4323 MC assert! [Bug 1299512] Re: gnome-keyring-daemon crashed with SIGABRT in g_assertion_message()
Hi to all. Have just recently changed from Ubuntu Xenial amd64 Unity 16.04.3 LTS to Ubuntu Gnome Xenial amd64 16.04.3 LTS and have started having this "System program problem detected" keyring error on start up (gnome-keyring-daemon crashed with SIGABRT in g_assertion_message() ). Have already noticed it as reported, but because I have used Xenial Unity amd64 LTS 16.04.3 since it`s release and many other flavours without having any issue with the keyring error, thought it would be worth mentioning, Have also used many different release versions of the NVIDIA drivers as well without any effect. Am currently running with NVIDIA binary driver - version 375.66 from nvidia-375 (proprietary, tested) and will change back over to the X.Org X Server --Nouveau driver to see if issue persists on future boot ups. [Bug 1676912] Re: Kernel 4.9+ regression: Suspend - Freezing of tasks failed
fwiw, this has been happening to my laptop for a couple months (i just now had the time to look into the logs). i've had the laptop for a year (samsung ativ book 9) without problems before this. I get continuous log output from the kernel for as long as the lid is closed, and my laptop is unrecoverable until hard rebooted (eg: close my laptop, stick in bag, then 4 hours later I'll have 16M of logs[1]; 400+ log-lines a second). It seems everything[2] failing -- NetworkManager, sd-resolve, syncthing -- to shutdown is networking related, at least today. I'll start looking at this more in the future, as this happens to me (6 boots ago was only `cups-browsed`). I'm on 4.10.0-34-generic, and Ubuntu 16.04.1. Please let me know if I can add anything useful to this thread. [1]: measuring the output of: journalctl --catalog --boot -1 | sed -n '/kernel:\ Freezing\ of\ tasks\ failed\ after/,$p' [2]: i'm guessing here; not much experience reading these logs. this is based on the output of: journalctl --catalog --boot -1 | grep -A 1 -E 'kernel:\ *Freezing\ of\ tasks\ failed\ after' | grep -v 'Freezing.of.tasks.failed' | cut -f 6 -d ' ' | sort | uniq # (ie: looking at the reported process just after the kernel "freezing failed" line). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1676912 Title: Kernel 4.9+ regression: Suspend - Freezing of tasks failed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1676912/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1706500] Re: Update snap store name "Snap Store"
Decision was made to use "Snap Store" instead of "Ubuntu Store". ** Summary changed: - Update snap store name "Ubuntu Store" + Update snap store name "Snap Store" ** Description changed: [Impact] Currently various things are shown for the snap "Source" field: 3.20: "Ubuntu Snappy Store" - hard-coded 3.22 / 3.24: "dashboard.snapcraft.io" - is inferred from the snap metadata The officially decided store name is "Ubuntu Store" and this should show in this field. [Test Case] 1. Open GNOME Software. 2. Install a snap (e.g. moon-buggy). 3. Select installed tab. 4. Look at the "Source" field when looking at the app details. Expected result: - The source is "Ubuntu Store" + The source is "Snap Store" Observed result: The source is something else.
