[Bug 1717393] Re: Install problem

2017-09-14 Thread Seth Arnold
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment to this bug report it
seems that there may be a problem with your hardware. I'd recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 1715527] Re: The option to install third-party software silently fails if you didn't connect to the internet on the previous installer screen

2017-09-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

- The installation option (checkbox) to install third-party software
- doesn't actually install third-party software. At most it enables the
- option to install third-party software manually, later.
+ The option to install third-party software silently fails if you didn't
+ connect to the internet on the previous installer screen.

I was expecting to see the third-party software installed on my first
reboot, or at least after the first update. But still not installed. No
mp3 packages, no libva packages, no vaapi packages.

I had to manually install 'ubuntu-restricted-addons' in the end to get
  what I was expecting.

[Bug 1373070] Re: full fix for disconnected path (paths)

2017-09-14 Thread Seth Arnold
Gábor, systemd is well-meaning in providing namespacing features so the
thousands of daemons that are in the world don't have to re-implement
something similar. But of course the kernel hook points used by AppArmor
don't provide sufficient information to know what pathname to
reconstruct when the named object isn't visible in the namespace where
it was used.

Add /run/systemd/journal/dev-log w, to the profile, make sure
attach_disconnected is used, and then you can return to using the
systemd unit file. (Which is probably better than falling back to the
sysv-init compatibility shims systemd uses.)

Thanks

Hello, I recommend installing the mcelog package if you haven't done so
yet. Your processor is logging Machine Check Exceptions. That's probably
bad news. But maybe it's just dead fans or clogged heatsinks or
something.

Good luck.

[Bug 1717172] Re: what is possible solutions to over come this bug

2017-09-14 Thread Seth Arnold
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment to this bug report it
seems that there may be a problem with your hardware. I'd recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 1717388] [NEW] Duplicate lines created when copying csv file from a windows shared folder through Virtualbox

2017-09-14 Thread Roy Jamison
Public bug reported:

Running: Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS
System: Virtualbox VM

When copying a large csv file (30-40 columns with strange characters, null
bytes, etc.) from a shared folder with windows through vbox to Ubuntu, the data
is corrupted in a strange way.
Some of the lines are repeated further down. The original csv still in the
shared folder opens fine, so this doesn't appear to be a problem with
LibreOffice or Ubuntu's ability to view shared files, it looks like a copying
error with nautilus.

Copying using 'cp' through the terminal works without issue.

[Bug 1682934] Re: python3 in /usr/local/bin can cause python3 packages to fail to install

2017-09-14 Thread Brian Murray
** Description changed:

- Got this error while using "Transmageddon Video Transcoder" and again
- while updating 16.10 to 17.04.
+ [Impact]
+ An upgrade of python3.5 will fail if someone has installed a different
version of python3.5 in their path e.g. in /usr/local/bin. This is because the
postinst scripts do not specify the complete path to python3.5.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ 1) Ensure the version of python3.5 from the release pocket is installed
+ 2) Install python3 using the instructions at
https://passingcuriosity.com/2015/installing-python-from-source/
+ 3) Confirm that python3.5 from /usr/local/bin/ is being used / the default
+ 4) Upgrade to a newer version of python3.5 from -proposed
+
+ Observe the following Traceback:
+
+ Setting up python3.5-minimal (3.5.3-1) ...
+ Traceback (most recent call last):

Errors were encountered while processing:
+ python3.5-minimal
+ python3-minimal
+
+ With the version of python3.5 from -proposed this Traceback will not be
+ encountered.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ It's possible I missed a postinst script so other python3.5 binary packages
should be installed to ensure they are all fixed e.g. python3.5-dbg.
+
+ [Original Description]
+ Got this error while using "Transmageddon Video Transcoder" and again while
updating 16.10 to 17.04.

Seems to have something to do with needing that Python3 version for
Teletext decoding in media that is in transport stream format (.ts).

[Bug 1712925] Re: FFE: HAproxy dropping connections (RST) during config reload / support seamless reload

2017-09-14 Thread Dave Chiluk
Added configuration and testing results to top page. Upload commencing
shortly.

** Description changed:

Reloading haproxy causes TCP resets for active connections. This can be
a serious issue for clouds that rely on haproxy for load balancing, and
as a result are restarting it frequently.

Full related blog post is here.

https://www.haproxy.com/blog/truly-seamless-reloads-with-haproxy-no-more-hacks/

  FFE Justification
- - Description- The patchset fixes the issue by adding the -x option to
haproxy. This option is used for passing the unix stats socket from the old
haproxy to the new one. The old haproxy then passes connections to the new
haproxy using this socket *(simplified explanation). The changes are largely
isolated to new functions that implement this functionality.
+ - Description- The patchset fixes the issue by adding the -x option to
haproxy. This option is used for passing the unix stats socket from the old
haproxy to the new one. The old haproxy then passes connections to the new
haproxy using this socket *(simplified explanation). The changes are largely
isolated to new functions that implement this functionality.

  - Rationale - The change is largely isolated to the new option, but for
those running clouds this could be potentially very important. Clouds
that are "doing it right", and treating instances as cattle are
constantly tearing down and rebuilding instances. This has the side
effect of constantly reloading haproxy. For example at Indeed on a few
of our clouds haproxy gets restarted roughly every second. My tests
show that this causes a connection reset rate of about 18 resets for 50k
connections. The haproxy teams are showing 11 tcp resets for 2k
connections. Either way it's greater than 0 and it's dependent on how
many connections you receive and how fast you are restarting haproxy.
I've chosen not to enable this by default in the systemd unit files, as
enabling that the stats socket in the haproxy config match the one
passed with the -x command. However for those that are seeing this
problem only having to make the config and unit file changes should be a
better user experience than hand building packages.
+
+ Configuration
+ 1. Add the following lines to your haproxy.cfg
+ "# turn on stats unix socket
+ stats socket /var/lib/haproxy/stats expose-fd listeners
+ stats bind-process 1
+ "
+ 2. Add "HAPROXY_STATS_SOCKET=/var/lib/haproxy/stats" to the Environment
variable in /lib/systemd/system/haproxy.service
+ 3. $ sudo systemctl daemon-reload
+ 4. $ systemctl reload haproxy.
+ It's important to use reload as it is accomplished using the
haproxy-systemd-wrapper.
+
+ Testing.
+ 1. Configure as above.
+ 2. put haproxy in a reload loop
+ $ while true ; do sudo systemctl reload haproxy ; sleep 3 ; done
+ 3. run apache bench against it.
+ $ ab -r -c 20 -n 10 http://192.168.1.226:8070/

[Bug 1712867] Re: [Hyper-V] 16.04 kexec-tools doesn't match linux-azure

2017-09-14 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Joshua, or anyone else affected,

Accepted kexec-tools into xenial-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kexec-
tools/1:2.0.10-1ubuntu2.4 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-xenial to verification-done-xenial. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-xenial. In either case, details of your
testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

Currently it's not possible to use the kdump functionality in xenial
- when running the linux-azure kernel. The problem is actually caused but
+ when running the linux-azure kernel. The problem is actually caused by
  several factors:

  1. kexec fails to parse /proc/kcore and thus fails to load the crash
kernel. That's similar to bug #1713940 and it's related to 4.10+
  kernels.

  2. When the crash kernel boots, a bug in KASLR causes it to crash in a
very early stage. For the user, it seems the system just rebooted after
  the crash.

  3. Currently in azure, crashkernel=128G is not enough to boot and run
the dump procedure with 4.11+ kernels. That value needs to be increased
in order to kdump to succeed.

  4. After the vmcore is dumped, the current version of crash in xenial is
not able to parse it. All the necessary fixes are already upstream and
  can be backported.

  [Test Case]

  1. Install the linux-azure kernel in an azure instance (although it's
possible to run linux-azure in bare metal or kvm, the KASLR issue only
  is triggered in azure).

  2. Follow the instructions in https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/serverguide
/kernel-crash-dump.html to setup kdump and manually trigger a crash
  using /proc/sysrq-trigger.

The vmcore must be generated and it should be possible to inspect it
  using crash.

  [Regression Potential]

Since both kexec-tools and crash are being changed to support 4.10+
kernels, it's very important that they continue to handle 4.4 kernels
  properly.

The same steps above can be used to test linux-generic for regressions.

  [Other Info]

  Original description:

  --8<--
Because the linux-azure kernel is based on 4.11, kexec on 16.04 gives the
following error:
kdump-tools[1436]: ELF core (kcore) parse failed

Perhaps the artful kexec-tools should be backported?

[Bug 1717367] Re: FTBFS: segfaults in testsuite with perl 5.26.0-7

2017-09-14 Thread Steve Langasek
I can confirm that rebuilding perl against libc6-dev from 2.26 is enough
to trigger this change in the SIG_NAME list; and this is an ABI-breaking
change in perl.

[Bug 1711358] Re: 20170817 - ISO hangs on boot on qemu with splash screen enabled and qxl graphics driver

2017-09-14 Thread Brian Murray
A comment in a duplicate bug of this states the following:

"Virsh adds video as default like:

Matched the cmdline: -device qxl-vga

The default of libvirt is:

Matches the cmdline: -device cirrus-vga,id=video0

Switching back to the default cirros graphics console makes it working
again.

Also type='vga' which matched qemu-cmdline "std" works.
So both qemu defaults (cirrus = old, vga = new), and the libvirt default
(cirrus) work.
But the qxl as selected by virt-manager fails."

So it seems like this problem will only occur if virt-manager is used to
create the virtual machine. Am I understanding that correctly?

Yeah, we're kinda talking about two things, the problem with ubuntu core
and the problem with the artful daily-live server installer. Both of
those use networkd :) I'm think xnox has a plan for artful, I'm not sure
if it will apply to ubuntu core though, maybe he can confirm?

2017-09-14 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

The autopkgtests segfault against perl 5.26.0-7 in Ubuntu, and the new
version of the package also fails to build in -proposed because the
tests are segfaulting at package build time.

[Bug 1716818] Re: Remove obsolete versioned dependency on initramfs-tools

2017-09-14 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Steve, or anyone else affected,

Accepted mdadm into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mdadm/3.3-2ubuntu7.4
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-xenial to verification-done-xenial. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-xenial. In either case, details of your
testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1667113] Re: System users appears in Ligthdm and user switcher (Accountsservice has no filter for shell types)

2017-09-14 Thread Tom Reynolds
This is apparently a bug, more precisely a regression (#8) in either Ubuntu's
accountservice or lightdm.
This also affects trusty (as I have tested), so adding tag.
There is no patch, yet, removing tag (set in #21), renaming image in #21.
~alisalama has not handled this bug since April, I assume it is not a person,
so removing assignment.
Hopefully ~ubuntu-desktop can take a look at this bug sooner or later.

This reverts commit 1032c79238e87259cef6963e43c78c39eeeb2cde.

This wasn't actually ready to merge, and now that it has
we're seeing a spike in failures of test_iscsi_volume.

[Bug 1717241] Re: nautilus crashed with signal 5 in _XReply() - drag and drop crash

2017-09-14 Thread Rodrigo Alconchel
** Description changed:

To reproduce on a fully updated Ubuntu Desktop 16.04 system with Unity:

  Step 1: Start nautilus

Step 2: Drag and drop a file to any target: to a different folder in the
- same nautilus window, to another folder in a different nautilus folder,
+ same nautilus window, to another folder in a different nautilus windows,
etc. ... The target is irrelevant.

Expected to happen: File successfuly copied or moved.

Actually happened: Mouse pointer changes to a hand with a plus sign.
Source file moves only slightly and then freezes, never makes it to the
target. Application locks up for a few seconds, and then the application
window vanishes. Crash report is then generated.

  Ubuntu release: Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS

  Nautilus package version: Installed: 1:3.18.4.is.3.14.3-0ubuntu6

  Additional (and maybe relevant) notes:

  1) Drag and drop function seems broken generally, across applications,
not just in nautilus. For instance, same behavior appears when trying to
drag and drop a Thunderbird message to another Thunderbird folder, or
when trying to drag and drop a cell or a range of cells within the same
  Libreoffice Calc spreadsheet.

  2) Interestingly, application windows can be dragged and dropped across
display monitors (3 monitor setup), without any problems.

  3) I am using proprietary NVIDIA drivers, but please do not suggest
using nouveau drivers, because they work horribly (heavy display
corruption, pixelated screen, and constant mouse flickering)

  4) Graphics setup: NVIDIA Quadro NVS 450 card with twin GPU and 4 heads.
NVIDIA propietary driver version 340.102 (installed from ubuntu
repositories, not from proprietary NVIDIA installer; correct driver for
this card according to NVIDIA documentation). 3 monitors connected in a
  simple horizontal layout.

  5) Nautilus extension installed: nautilus-share 0.7.3-2ubuntu1

  6) Attaching a nautilus debugging log from terminal command:
  G_DEBUG="all" NAUTILUS_DEBUG ="All" nautilus

  7) Attaching X Org log file with -logverbose 6 option

[Bug 1717360] [NEW] test_update_origin.py test failure

2017-09-14 Thread Brian Murray
Public bug reported:

The test_update_origin.py test is experiencing a failure. While this was
fixed in Artful, it has not been in Zesty, Xenial, or Trusty and should
be since the failures end up appearing when other packages are tested
(e.g. xorg-server) too.

[Bug 1717272] Re: HiDPI settings reset on logout

2017-09-14 Thread hamid
I switched to Wayland by enabling modesetting (for KMS) in nvidia
drivers and the scale persists after a reboot when using Wayland instead
of Xorg.

See this bug for how to enable:
