[Bug 1652332] [NEW] Alternative to BIOS-Boot partition

2017-09-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hello
Since the beginning of LEGACY installations with a formatted disk MSDSOS,
It was necessary to create a BIOS-Boot partition (>1MB, unformatted filesystem,
bios_grub flag)

It seems to me that there is a much better solution.
Write in the MBR the address of the image file that is in the root partition

I saw this in a boot info that I send you for detailed analysis

It is possible that I was mistaken in the comprehension of the report

However the computer boots very well. I did not see any partition (FAT
or bios-boot). It's a mystery.

** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Won't Fix

[Bug 1717599] Re: [artful] full-screen opengl windows affected by ubuntu-dock (x11 session, nvidia blob)

2017-09-17 Thread Dmitrii Shcherbakov
The kernel I have is http://kernel.ubuntu.com/git/ubuntu/ubuntu-
artful.git/tag/?h=Ubuntu-4.13.0-10.11 built by hand with

make -j `getconf _NPROCESSORS_ONLN` deb-pkg LOCALVERSION=-custom

So, nothing special about it - just wanted all of the apparmor patches
to be present in comparison to the mainline 4.13, otherwise snap-confine
was complaining. The nvidia driver was 381.22 taken from
https://launchpad.net/~graphics-drivers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa - could test
with 384 but I don't think this is related in this case anyway.

My journal contains entries from previous boots as well due to:

/etc/systemd/journald.conf

[Journal]
Storage=persistent
MaxFileSec=1day
SystemMaxFiles=7
SystemMaxUse=1G
SystemKeepFree=1G

[Bug 1717857] [NEW] UDisks2 interface restricts sending DBus.Properties.Get message from the client to udisksd service

2017-09-17 Thread Renat
Public bug reported:

I'm getting DBus DENIED errors when trying to get a list of mount points
using `DBus.Properties.Get` call on the
"/org/freedesktop/UDisks2/block_devices/mmcblk0p2" path.

I think it's because DBus part of "udisks2:service" slot of the
"udisks2" interface is too restrictive on this particular type of
message.

Look at connected slot apparmor[1], you will see that it allows sending
DBus.Properties interface messages, but not receiving them. That snippet
is inserted to the udisks2 AppArmor file and only allows udisks2 to send
DBus.Properties message from udisks2 to the client, but not vice versa.

More information could be found in the bash session[2].

[Bug 1552241] Re: libvirt-bin apparmor settings for usb host device

2017-09-17 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
This was a lot of debugging and analysis for a patch that looks all too easy
afterwards :-/
But it is now ready part of the patch queue that I intend to submit for the
virt-aa-helper bugs.

Going on to the next bug in this queue (I'll submit them together at the
end) and come back to fix & backport as needed then.

[Bug 1711337] Re: Firefox crashes at start on armv7L after 55.0.1 update

2017-09-17 Thread herrtimson
On a rpi2 I tested Arch Linux recently, and their firefox-55.0.2 binary
does work like a charm. Which makes me wonder if this is a bug somewhere
in the toolchain (they use bleeding edge very latest gcc/glibc/etc.), or
if the culprit could be found with the configure options.

How can we find out the build/configure options the ubuntu team uses?

On the other hand, I tested a build with gentoo von armv7 and ran into a
segfault with 55.0.2 as well.

[Bug 1559317] Re: [xenial] No write access to VirtFS (9p) in qemu VM run by libvirt

2017-09-17 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Ok, so we need three things:
1. the zfs rules to be generated which is bug 1677398
2. for this one here understand the video rule if/how it is releated and
generate it accordingly
3. check where/why qemu does these fowner/fsetid things and create a rule for
it depending on that.
   If it does so in general (and for now as a workaround) add it to the
abstractions/libvirt-qemu
   but if we can track down to e.g. only 9p then we should generate that into
the per-guest rules.

Thanks a lot sgofferj for the update!

I'm currently working on a set of apparmor issues related to virt-aa-
helper, this takes some time as I debug and dev them one by one, but
this should be part of it rather soon.

[Bug 1676371] Re: Broken Mime Parts

2017-09-17 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi Manuel,
we currently wait for myself or someone in the community to find the cycles to
do the extended backport. The fix was backported before, but that implies
changes to the tests (not just disabling but making them correctly matching the
changes of the backport).

If you are willing and able to do so you can prepare that and myself as
well as others can take a look. To easen your work and our review of it
I recommend [1] as a process.

[Bug 1619859] Re: calibre crashes on start

2017-09-17 Thread Robert Schmidt-Cisternas
See https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=278447 for a
workaround.

Basically, calibre tries to load an icon which silently fails somewhere in the
stack, because of its size.
Replacing it with a smaller PNG allows calibre to start normally.

The XRandR and XKEYBOARD extension error messages are red herrings (they
still appear with the workaround applied).

[Bug 1624644] Re: By default settings unattended-upgrade is unable to automatically remove packages that become unused in conjunction with updating by other software.

2017-09-17 Thread Jarno Suni
** Description changed:

- When using default settings for unattended-upgrades i.e.
+ When using default settings for unattended-upgrade i.e.
  Unattended-Upgrade::Remove-Unused-Dependencies "false";
  # default "false"
  Unattended-Upgrade::Remove-New-Unused-Dependencies "true";
  # default "true"
  in configuration file /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades,
- U-U is unable to remove packages that become unused in conjunction with
updating by other software such as update-manager or apt full-upgrade. This is
because U-U compares the list of unneeded packages before and after it upgrades
packages to detect which packages are new unused ones.
+ unattended-upgrade is unable to remove packages that become unused in
conjunction with updating by other software such as update-manager or apt
full-upgrade. This is because unattended-upgrade compares the list of unneeded
packages before and after it upgrades packages to detect which packages are new
unused ones.
+
+ Consequently, if user installs new kernels using e.g. update-manager,
+ the excessive kernels will not be removed by unattended-upgrade, and
+ eventually (small) /boot will become full.

  Expected behavior: handle removing of unused packages differently at
  least until other package management software installed by default can
  handle removing of new unused packages.

Useless line of code in shell.py

Shell.py contains lines to import osprofiler. This is useless
because osprofiler options support code was moved to osc-lib.

Removed it.

[Bug 1624644] Re: By default settings unattended-upgrade is unable to automatically remove packages that become unused in conjunction with updating by other software.

2017-09-17 Thread Jarno Suni
** Summary changed:

- Unable to automatically remove packages that become unused in conjunction
with updating by other software
+ By default settings unattended-upgrade is unable to automatically remove
packages that become unused in conjunction with updating by other software.

** Description changed:

  When using default settings for unattended-upgrades i.e.
- Unattended-Upgrade::Remove-Unused-Dependencies "false";
+ Unattended-Upgrade::Remove-Unused-Dependencies "false";
  # default "false"
- Unattended-Upgrade::Remove-New-Unused-Dependencies "true";
+ Unattended-Upgrade::Remove-New-Unused-Dependencies "true";
  # default "true"
  in configuration file /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades,
  U-U is unable to remove packages that become unused in conjunction with
updating by other software such as update-manager or apt full-upgrade. This is
because U-U compares the list of unneeded packages before and after it upgrades
packages to detect which packages are new unused ones.
+
+ Expected behavior: handle removing of unused packages differently at
+ least until other package management software installed by default can
+ handle removing of new unused packages.

[Bug 1624644] Re: Unable to automatically remove packages that become unused in conjunction with updating by other software

2017-09-17 Thread Jarno Suni
Anyway, it would be good, if other software could optionally remove new unused
packages.
I do not consider Unattended-Upgrade::Remove-New-Unused-Dependencies as an
reasonable default option for unattended-upgrades before the feature has been
released for at least apt, update-manager, gnome-software and possible other
related software installed by default.

[Bug 1716068] Re: Gnome Shell crashes randomly

2017-09-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Sometimes crash reports don't work reliably. I can confirm it failed to log a
new bug for you:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/~jstevz4teh1337/+reportedbugs?orderby=-id&start=0

Of course, you shouldn't be running 'gnome-shell --replace' normally
unless it's already crashed beforehand. Had it crashed before you ran
that command? Even still, it sounds like a dangerous way to restart the
shell because the act of it restarting might kill your terminal which is
now the parent of the shell. So restarting the shell like that could
make it crash immediately, unless you also do:

  nohup gnome-shell --replace &

Please answer the question in the previous paragraph and also try the
above more correct command instead.

X11.
