[Bug 1714804] Re: Aardvark Daily: Indicator-Multiload doesn't show full-width

GNOME Shell already has a nice system monitor
(https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/120/system-monitor/), so I'm not
sure it is worth the hassle to fix the indicator.

[Bug 1725132] [NEW] igal2 package not latest version

2017-10-19 Thread Luc Oers
Public bug reported:

I have the package igal2 installed on my Xubuntu 16.04. When executing
igal2, it fails. The reason looks to be that defined(@array) is
deprecated in the actual version of perl.

The version of igal2 now available in Synaptics is 2.1-2 but it looks
like in igal2 version 2.2, the problem is solved.

Thu, June 2, 2016: Wolfgang Trexler
* Version 2.2 - minor changes
* removed define(@array) as this is deprecated in newer perl versions
* Added better explanations if ImageMagick or GraphicsMagick files can
not be found

Is it possible to make igal2 version 2.2 available via Synaptics ?

Many thanks.

[Bug 1719196] Re: [arm64 ocata] newly created instances are unable to raise network interfaces

2017-10-19 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * A change in qemu 2.8 (83d768b virtio: set ISR on dataplane
+notifications) broke virtio handling on platforms without a
+controller. Those encounter flaky networking due to missed IRQs
+
+ * Fix is a backport of the upstream fix b4b9862b: virtio: Fix no
+interrupt when not creating msi controller
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * On Arm with Zesty (or Ocata) run a guest without PCI based devices
+
+ * Example in e.g. c#23
+
+ * Without the fix the networking does not work reliably (as it losses
+IRQs), with the fix it works fine.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * Changing the IRQ handling of virtio could affect virtio in general.
+But when reviwing the patch you'll see that it is small and actually
+only changes to enable IRQ on one more place. That could cause more
+IRQs than needed in the worst case, but those are usually not
+breaking but only slowing things down. Also this fix is upstream
+quite a while, increasing confidence.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * There is currently 1720397 in flight in the SRU queue, so acceptance
+of this upload has to wait until that completes.
+
+ ---

  arm64 Ocata ,

I'm testing to see I can get Ocata running on arm64 and using the
openstack-base bundle to deploy it. I have added the bundle to the log
  file attached to this bug.

When I create a new instance via nova, the VM comes up and runs, however
fails to raise its eth0 interface. This occurs on both internal and
  external networks.

[Bug 1725118] Re: Flowblade crashes with AttributeError: 'GdkWaylandWindow' object has no attribute 'get_xid'

2017-10-19 Thread Paul
Apparently this is a known issue, see this upstream bug filed in
February: https://github.com/jliljebl/flowblade/issues/329

Yes, Flowblade uses MLT SDL consumer to display video and this does
  not work on Wayland.

Wayland support will be added in summer/autumn 2017, it will require
quite a bit of work to get done and cannot be added to 1.12.

The WORKAROUND is to use X11 session when running Flowblade.

The question is, if this is fixed in e.g. Flowblade 1.14 within the next
few months, will we upgrade to 1.14 in Artful or will the packages stay
broken until 18.04?

[Bug 1714989] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_cast() from st_label_set_text() (dash-to-panel specific?)

2017-10-19 Thread Treviño
Indeed these bugs might be triggered by one extension, more than vanilla
experience, but they still underline issues in the code, so it's still a
bug we've to fix.

As I said, if you happen to catch this wile running gnome-shell in gdb,
please run `call gjs_dumpstack()` from the gdb shell in order to get
logs in your journal.

Related to this, thanks Juerg.
I've a point now, at least. While the statement above is still valid for people
getting this and running g-s without dash-to-panel extension.

timeouts with a plymouth-related error. Running `plymouth --ping` does

[Bug 1725110] Re: config-package-dev 5.2 broke transforms

2017-10-19 Thread Geoffrey Thomas
Above is a backport of the patch (a two-line fix to some Perl) to 5.2.

This is a backport of the entire 5.4 version, which includes
autopkgtests and fixes the examples to successfully build. The diff
might be easier to read on GitHub: https://github.com/sipb/config-
package-dev/compare/5.2...5.4

(I can provide these two as Git branches if that's easier for anyone)

[Bug 1725110] [NEW] config-package-dev 5.2 broke transforms

2017-10-19 Thread Geoffrey Thomas
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

As reported at https://bugs.debian.org/873966 , a patch in config-
package-dev 5.2 broke the transform functionality entirely. Any attempt
to use transforms in a config package causes the build to fail with

Can't use string ("/ARRAY(0x7fda137152e0)") as an ARRAY ref while
"strict refs" in use at /usr/bin/dh_configpackage line 394.

config-package-dev is a tool used as a build-dependency in private
(third-party) Debian packages, so this causes those packages to FTBFS in
artful when they built successfully in older releases.

Bruno Maitre reported the problem and provided a patch to fix the bug,
which has been incorporated into version 5.3 in Debian.

[Test Case]

config-package-dev ships one example that uses the transform
functionality, but the version in 5.2 doesn't quite build right in
artful (or in Debian unstable). So the easiest way is to grab the
updated example from git:

apt install config-package-dev debhelper lynx
wget http://github.com/sipb/config-package-dev/archive/master.tar.gz
tar xf master.tar.gz
cd config-package-dev-master/examples/debhelper/debathena-transform-example-1.0
dpkg-buildpackage

With config-package-dev 5.2, this will FTBFS at the "dh_configpackage"
step; with the fixed version, the package will build. (If you're curious
you can try dpkg -i'ing the resulting package, which will change lynx's
home page to default to web.mit.edu.)

[Regression Potential]

I'm attaching two debdiffs to this bug. One backports version 5.4 from
Debian unstable, which in addition to fixing this bug, fixes the
examples to build on unstable, adds an autopkgtest to make sure the
examples build, and makes no other code changes. The other just cherry-
picks the one change.

Arguably the regression potential for the autopkgtest version is less,
since if tests pass that gives us confidence that the new version works
on Ubuntu. (I have been doing my testing on Ubuntu.) I'd prefer this
version, under the rules for SRUing an upstream microrelease of a
package with a test suite. But it does change more; if you prefer the
targeted fix that's fine with me too.

The regression potential compared to 5.2 is extremely low, since 5.2 is
definitely broken for packages that use transforms, and Bruno's patch
only affects the code that handles transforms. I am also confident in
the patch now that I have added autopkgtests and they pass on Debian
unstable, stretch, and jessie (thanks, travis.debian.net!).

Also, as noted the previous time we SRU'd config-package-dev (LP
#899732), nothing in the Ubuntu or Debian archive build-depends on
config-package-dev; it's a tool used by external packages. So even if
there is a regression it will be low-severity.

[Bug 1723554] Re: Highlight border flickers in Overview when you hover mouse away from & over window

2017-10-19 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Confirmed. Although in 17.10 the default theme uses an orange border,
not blue.

** Summary changed:

- Blue border flickers in Overview when you hover mouse away from & over window
+ Highlight border flickers in Overview when you hover mouse away from & over
window

** Description changed:

  BEHAVIOR
- When you enter activities overview, and hover your mouse over an open window
(or away from an open window and then back over an open window) the blue border
around the window flickers: it briefly fades, then returns. The blue border
also flickers when you hover over the "X" close button at the top-right of a
window in Overview, and then back to the window.
+ When you enter activities overview, and hover your mouse over an open window
(or away from an open window and then back over an open window) the border
around the window flickers: it briefly fades, then returns. The border also
flickers when you hover over the "X" close button at the top-right of a window
in Overview, and then back to the window.

  EXPECTED BEHAVIOR
That the blue border wouldn't flicker (or quickly fade out then fade back in)
when you move the mouse into, over, or away from the window in Activities
Overview.

[Bug 1725086] Re: Spam of dmesg messages, Wi-Fi related

2017-10-19 Thread Leonardo Müller
My system is nigh unusable now. If I disconnect the wireless, the system
becomes very unstable: sudo and gksu stops working, many programs don't
open and other problems.

I've attached the dmesg. Now it's at that very unstable state, if
something happens to wireless it will become very unstable.

Interesting to see Intel released a firmware update specifically for
HDMI on the NUC. If you can boot Windows to install it then it might be
worth trying for NUC owners like Neilen...

[Bug 1725092] [NEW] Dash prompt disappears when I type "w" in

2017-10-19 Thread Takeshi Teshima
Public bug reported:

Version information:
(1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System ->
About Ubuntu
$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS
Release:16.04

Details:
(3) What you expected to happen
I expected that Dash will not disappear when I type in a single character. I
also want to be able to set a keyboard shortcut independent of this behavior.

(4) What happened instead
The prompt area of Unity Dash disappears when I type "w" in the search bar.

Example: A single 'w' (lowercase), or a sequence like "test w" closes
the area. However it doesn't happen for "W" (uppercase).

This bug is related to a keyboard shortcut. "Close window" shortcut is
set to "Super+w" in my environment, and when I change it to e.g.
"Super+q", Dash starts to disappear when I type "q" instead of "w" (and
it won't disappear with "w" any longer).

(Just to confirm, when I type in "w", I'm not explicitly pressing
"Super")

[Bug 1725082] [NEW] Upgrade to 17.10 crashed due to cracklib-runtime

2017-10-19 Thread Leonardo Müller
Public bug reported:

Hi

I was upgrading Xubuntu 17.04 to 17.10 using the terminal (tty1). I had
stopped the lightdm service to do so, and the upgrade was working fine,
until it tried to upgrade cracklib-runtime. Then an error happened and
there was a spam messages saying it could not create the crash file.
Between the dozen of spammed messages, I could see one of them gave
options to send, ingore and other. Quickly I pressed E to send and the
spam stopped. It had created one crash file and I think it was sent.

After this episode, the upgrade stopped and I used sudo apt upgrade to
continue the upgrade. It continued and finished correctly. I rebooted
and the system is nearly OK, the biggest problem is a dmesg message
repeating every 2 minutes (I will report another bug).
